2018 Gameday

Gameday 2018: Diamondbacks (16-7) at Phillies (15-8)

arizona-diamondbacks-logo.jpgThe Phillies will try to take two of three from the Diamondbacks and double up their record again.

And they’ll have to do it on Facebook.

Gametime: 1:05 p.m.

The lineup:

  1. Hernandez – 2B
  2. Santana – 1B
  3. Herrera – CF
  4. Hoskins – LF
  5. Altherr – RF
  6. Knapp – C
  7. Franco – 3B
  8. Lively – P
  9. Crawford – SS

Pitchers: Ben Lively (0-1, 4.64 ERA) vs.  (Matt Koch, 0-0 1.13 ERA)

The struggling Scott Kingery is on the bench again. Andrew Knapp gets another start at catcher. Koch, who is filling in for Taijuan Walker, who will be out for the year with an elbow injury, is making his second start.

Your Gameday Beer: Day drinking! Go with a light-hopped pilsner. I like 5 O’Clock Pils from Saint Arnold Brewing out of Texas. Pilsners are hard to master because precision is necessary, but this one really hits the mark with Saaz hops from the Czech Republic.

Go Phillies!

I don’t know how much longer they can go with Lively. On the plus side, the bullpen has been pretty solid.

    The Mets keep on losing.

This is a big weekend series against Atlanta. Watch out for Acuna, he’s the games next superstar.

Can’t put a great deal of stock in this too early in the season, which we still are, but a total of right around 60,000 in attendance for the Arizona series is not too great, and pretty consistent with what’s been the last couple years. With a pretty attractive opponent, albeit not a division rival, and a very marketable pitching matchup in Game 2 (Jake, Greinke) the underlyine message is the public at large, at this point in time is not buying the team’s start,

I thought they’d do a little better at the gate for those 3 games. About 10%, maybe as high as 12%.

So far, for whatever stock you put in matchups at a given time, the Phils have played 4 series against seemingly half decent to good opponents, and dropped all 4. 2 of a scheduled 3 V MYM, 2 series to the Braves, and Zona. To whatever degree they are an improvement over last year, or top range a contender of sorts, you can’t lose 2 of 3 all the time. This time, the Braves are here so it’d be nice to see the Phils win 2 of 3, and do so with some good baseball to back up a positive result. Expectation? Maybe 55%.

Fairly harsh observation for a team that’s 15-9, but it is what it is.
