2018 Gameday

Gameday 2018: Marlins (2-5) at Phillies (2-4)

miami-marlins-new-log1.jpgAt 3 p.m. the Flyers will host the Rangers in the final game of the regular season. If they get just one point, they make the playoffs. Simple as that. But if they lose by two, and the Panthers win their final two games by shootout alone, then there’s a tie and the teams will battle in an 83rd game. (Also if the Flyers lose and the Panthers win their final two games outright, the Flyers are out, but let’s not go there.)

That game will let out at around 6 p.m., which is exactly when the Phillies host the Marlins in game two of a three-game set. It’s likely, then, that around 6:30 p.m., you’ll hear (drunken) murmurs filing into Citizens Bank Park. Should be a fun day!

Gametime: 6:05 p.m.

The lineup:

  1. Hernandez – 2B
  2. Santana – 1B
  3. Kingery – SS
  4. Hoskins – LF
  5. Herrera – CF
  6. Franco – 3B
  7. Altherr – RF
  8. Alfaro – C
  9. Velasquez – P

Pitchers: Vince Velasquez (0-1, 13.50 ERA) vs. Dillon Peters (1-0, 0.00 ERA)

Nick Williams, who hasn’t been happy about a lack of playing time, is once again benched. J.P. Crawford gets the day off, as Kingery takes the 3-hole for the second-straight game.

Your Gameday Beer: In honor of this big Flyers game, and of what’s sure to be a mess around 6:30 p.m. in South Philadelphia, let’s go with Yards Brawler. One of the best pound-for-pound beers to ever come out of Philly.

Go Phillies!

I’m hoping that the Vinnie Velasquez experiment is nearing an end. I’ve seen enough.

Through 5 innings tonight, the Phils have raised their team batting average from .186 to .229. It’d be more, except the 5th inning was the homerun payoff inning, and naturally, the 2 grand slams were hit earlier.

Of equal unimportance, their Saturday games run differential is +3.

Wouldn’t mind seeing Crawford wiggle into the lineup for an AB or 2 and see if he can start to get untracked, but with Florimon in at SS, not too likely.
