2018 Gameday

Gameday 2018: Mets (19-17) at Phillies (22-16)

new-york-mets-alternate-logo-2-primary_display_image-300x300.jpgUPDATE (8:08 p.m.): The game has been postponed and rescheduled for Aug. 16. Which is weird because it’s part of an existing four-game series that includes a game in Williamsport. Anyway, no game tonight.

So we’re late, but it doesn’t matter, because the game is in rain delay!

Tonight’s game against the Mets may start around 9 or 9:30 p.m., which seems ridiculous. But hey, maybe it’ll start then.

Meanwhile, PIX11 here in New York is showing some bloopers show instead of the game. This is not good television.

Gametime: Who the hell knows

The lineup:

  1. Hernandez – 2B
  2. Altherr – RF
  3. Herrera – CF
  4. Hoskins – LF
  5. Santana – 1B
  6. Franco – 3B
  7. Kingery – SS
  8. Alfaro – C
  9. Eflin – P

Pitchers: Zach Eflin (1-0, 0.71 ERA) vs. Noah Syndergaard (2-1, 3.09 ERA)

Whenever this starts, win this game. Please.

Your Gameday Beer: I just had Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA, an all-time favorite that can’t be beat. Hoppy, rounded and malty as hell, it’s as good as it gets.

Go Phillies!

I believe it was during the 2015 post season you wrote an article on here when the Mets were in a successful state warning their fans that the good times weren’t always going to be happening. That article drew about 40 responses from Met fans who behind a keyboard were far less dangerous than had they had the chance to meet you face to face.

While the Mets did get in the post season again the next year, they have ESSENTIALLY experienced only the short term success in that time period that is largely typical in fame and fortune. While the trash talking spirit that prevailed among them compounded the Phils oft losing tradition to pile on wondering who, as a Phillies fan, you were to tell them how to root, its with a bit of a chuckle that the Mets have indeed largely been very limited in their success since that article was posted.

Fans will be fans, and no team doesn’t have a portion of overly emotional ones, but I wonder how many of those people that posted that were frontrunners have followed the Mets few fortunes and fair amount of fates since. You’re warning has wound up pretty true.

The Mets were a 70 win team last season…I don’t see how they can expect to surpass that this year. They look like a fourth place team to me.
