A. Shortest Gamenight post of the year. What gives?
B. Howard is absolutely not "back".

You are negative in every sense of the word. Seriously, I had to run around like a chicken all day and was swamped at work. Cut me slack. Also, Howard is back. I called it.

Tim, the slack has been cut. I enjoy all of your posts, even the brief ones. Oh, and your boy Howard looked real nice getting K'd up - he's back for sure. 1 for 3 with a HR and a K, yipee.

Great game by Cole Hamels.
If we're a good team we'll move on and sweep the Jays.

Howard is back as is the Cole Train. What a great game! Now we just need to beat Scott Rolen this weekend!

WOW! great performance by cole hamels. THAT is what ive been talking about. i know cole has the ability to perform like this, and its very gratifying to see him go out there and mow people down. they get a free pass tonight. they earned it with a steady performance on offense and an outstanding career night (so far) for cole hamels. i dunno about purcey because i havent seen him before, but shaun marcum is pitching well this weekend. aj burnett is doing ok but not up to what you expect from him. big weekend for the back end of the rotation, if they drop the ball its alarmo time. but for right now, they earn the free pass and a compliment for cole's performance.

A beauty by Hamels.....and Mike T. dude I'd take Howard's 1-3 with a HR and a K over 0-4 with 3 k's everyday of the season. A hit every three at bats in more than satisfying and he's hit in seven straight. Honestly he's never going to win a batting title. But I'd, and I think a lot of people, will take performances like these with ease. I think your expectations need to come down a little bit. He's not going to be an MVP every year. Small steps man, small steps.
Overall a solid win, bring on Scotty and his Jays!
Plus, the Flyers won!

Good to see Hamels throw a gem like that. And also good to see the Phils take 2 of 3 from a division rival.

It was no contest in this game of opposing lefthanders.
Cole Hamels was simply brilliant. After the Braves #2 hitter singled in the first, Hamels retired the next 15 hitters he faced. The next guy to reach on Hamels was Gregor Blanco who singled to centerfield in the sixth inning.
James only lasted four, being pounded for 3 Phillie homers.

There are apparently no Phillies fans in the White House: the official transcript of the interview spells Chase's name "Ottley."
Well, he's the Decider. Ottley it is. I'll take my jersey to the tailor to get it changed today.

My favorite part of the transcript is when Bush says looking back at Iraq that he "feels like" there were WMD in Iraq. "Feels like." Wow. I don't want to open the political powderkeg, but wow.

I heard Gillick on XM today and also wondered about that comment. I guess he doesn't see things the way the rest of us do from his luxury box!

As it stands we have a No. 1, two No. 4s and two No. 5s. And I'm being generous with Kendrick and Moyer.
It's very possible the Phils could make a deal for a No. 2/3 starter.

must have pitching. no excuses, no covering up, just go out and get pitching. they should have done this in the offseason and they went and did part of it, now they have to complete their upgrades. at this point, their rotation is so bad that i need TWO more starters and one more arm. A front end starter and a back end starter. myers going down to ineffectiveness fouled things up even worse. im sick of it. go get the friggin pitching that it takes to win a world series.

Greg V. on Mad Dog And Muck Dog Bit Hard In Loss:
Two Adam Eatons? I never thought I say this, but I actually prefer Eaton on the mound over Myers at this point! If we want to compete we need to get better pitchers. If Myers is better off in the pen (which I'm not even sure about that anymore), then move him there and make Chad Durbin a starter. I think Durbin is great in long relief but I think he has it in him to be a half decent starter and stop the bleeding a bit.
Last night's game should have been a win and I'm convinced if anyone else was starting we would have had the game in the bag. It's a shame about Myers. He's in a really bad spot right now and I just don't see him coming out of it.

i cood see them going after arroyo..hes innefective right now but those are the type of guys we like...gillick really does suck.....we could of have lohse for nothing
Comment by:
Don M on Mad Dog And Muck Dog Bit Hard In Loss:
In his past 3 starts... Lohse has given up 19 ER, in only 17 Innings.. 22 hits, 8 walks, and 8 K's... maybe we weren't so dumb afterall.
I can't believe that you guys are bashing Gillick, or moves the Phillies didn't make... who was out there that we didn't get, and ever had a chance to, Randy Wolf?
Werth and Lidge are proving to be pretty valuable, right? Moyer has done a pretty good job since he's been here..
in the last post, someone said Myers+ Madson, or a minor leaguer.... for Cabrera or Burnett... WHAT?? neither one of them has the talent of the upside of Myers... neither one of them is above a #3 starter in a good rotation.. and again, If they can sell Myers as a closer.. .they can probably get some decent prospects in return, from a team in need.. Brewers...etc.... Maybe Eddie Wade wouldn't mind getting his boy back to be the Astros Closer??

Bruce... VERY WELL SAID!!!
Coste does deserve more playing time.. but the problem is that you want Ruiz as the starter.. Coste gets more playing time than your average "backup" cather.. so thats a thin line to walk already.
Howard is def starting to come around... he's going to start spraying the ball a little bit better I hope... Burrell started out so hot because he was using the whole field.. I'd like to see him continue to do that
