Playoffs?!?!

The Jim Mora tirade will never get old, nor will I ever stop referring to it when players and managers realize their season is shot.  Billy Wagner, who has four years of playoff experience, seems to have caught the Phillies Nation bug of hopelessness.  Though I admit, our passions follow the roller coaster ride that is this season, Billy-boy seemed a bit more certain in prognosticating the Phillies’ future.  “No chance,” was his response when asked yesterday whether he thought the Phillies had what it takes to make the postseason.  If that wasn’t enough, as you read through the quotes nicely laid out by Jim Salisbury it just gets worse.  Not only does Wagner not think the Phils have the mindset to be successful, but he doesn’t even think a trade will help.

I wouldn’t get on him for these otherwise disheartening quotes though, most of his frustration stems from the top down culture of losing that surrounds the club.  It’s not that the front office likes losing, but they certainly don’t act like winners.  You don’t need a recent World Series to gain confidence, it comes from inside, it is the first step to winning.  I don’t care if they need to take baby steps and start out with blind arrogance to show they think they can win.  Because when you have players not believing in their club which has been around over a century, something’s wrong.

Am I making any sense here?  Do you all notice this or am I just a whiny head case like all the rest of them?
