Kendrick whacked again; Rosario pushes forth

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Mon, March 10, 2008 07:11 AM

Kyle Kendrick had another poor outing today, trying out his changeup again to bad results. The righty — who is starting April 3 — gave up six runs on seven hits and two walks in just two innings. From Carlos Ruiz:

“He was missing his location working the changeup and that made it tough for him. He wasn’t throwing as many fastballs.”

Still, the Phillies are confident in Kendrick to make his pitches and go deep into games. I still am too, but this changeup isn’t looking any better as we proceed. Hopefully he’ll know to tone it down a bit when he starts off April 3.

In good news, Francisco Rosario threw 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and walking one and lowering his ERA to 1.04. While Rosario still has suspect control — and probably will until he sees plenty of time against Major League hitting — he has earned himself a spot on the 25-man roster. With Joe Bisenius’ move to the Minor League camp and Lincoln Holdzkom’s innings evaporating, there isn’t much competition for a right-handed middle relief spot. Rosario seems to have locked it up.

At the same time, he’s getting 2-3 innings per outing. It’s possible Rosario could land himself the fifth starter spot. As of right now, he’s in the bullpen, but keep an eye out. Rosario has considerable starter experience.

Ryan Howard continued to mash the ball, hitting his second home run of the spring — a long, monster shot out in left-center field. Keep it going, big fella. The rest of the offense continues to struggle — Jimmy Rollins is now hitting .120 for the spring. Wow.

What we got out of this game:

  1. Kyle Kendrick’s changeup still doesn’t have it.
  2. Francisco Rosario has won himself a spot on the roster.
  3. The offense needs to get better.

Today it’s the Pirates on the road. JD Durbin gets the start and the game is at 1:05 p.m. Brett Myers starts in a Minor League game, hoping to continue on his 0.00 spring ERA.

Punch in the face? haha..Your probably some little fat kid that lives in hoboken nj, wears flipflops to the games, and dances in the subways for nickles. Don’t be mad cause your team’s goals weren’t ”MET” last year Agustus.

    my Philadelphia brothers,
please don’t encourage them with retorts.

    on a serious note…
So why is Brett pitching in a minor league game? I rather listen to that game than the one durbin is pitching. I’d love to read details of that if you guys can post it. I’m a phils fan living in Texas and I need all the Phillies access I can get. Oh and can we really still say Kendrick is lock for the 4th spot?

  6. Ped Says:

ps. Lidge will be throwing off the mound today according to ESPN. Hell yeah to speedy recovery.

  7. Tim Malcolm Says:

Forgot to get the Lidge snippet into the post, but yeah, big first step back, and sooner than we thought.

Myers is fine in the Minor League game. He’s already proven himself against Major League hitting (blowing through the Toronto Opening Day order last time out) and is just looking to get his throws in. It’s more important for the fifth starter candidates to get cracks against Major League hitting.

And Kendrick is the No. 3, as he’s starting the third game of the year. That’s mainly for lefty-righty reasons. So yeah, Kendrick is a lock. He’s on board.

3 things you need to know about NYC Pimp Daddy…

    1) He Propably lives in New Jersey, in a wealthy suburb of NYC

    2) He is definately 14 years old

    3) He is angry because his mommy took his Lil’ Wayne album due to the bad language

More importantly EATON is diagnosed with a Herniated Disk in his back.

  10. Giuliano Says:

can we please block this loser?

  11. dan Says:

Yo pimp daddy, I’ll meet you at the games and we can join up and fight all the Phillies fans there. Then, we can expand our Mets gang and fight all the Phillies fans in the world, kidnap their moms, and then re-enroll in community college for refresher spelling courses! By the way, it really sucks that you had to steal that money for season tickets from your grandma. And honestly, what person with any connection to the Italian Mob in New York goes on Phillies blogs at 9 in the morning? Find a better way to spend your precious time, you degenerate sack of crap.

  12. Sean P. Says:

omg, this pirates radio broadcast is TERRIBLE. There not even talking/ commenting on the game let alone play by play. There just BS’ing i would like to know what is happening in the game a little bit – this is ridiculous.

  13. Mike Says:

I can’t even stand to listen to opposing team’s broadcasts. It’s bad enough on mlb.tv (where you can at least you can see the game), mlb audio is just unbearable. I wish come the regular season, there were a way to synchronize the phillies mlb audio with the mlb.tv video feed when opposing teams announcers are doing the games.

  14. Giuliano Says:

what’s unbearable, right now, is our pitching. On the bright side, Howard, Feliz and Burrell all have homeruns.

  15. Brian Says:

His vocabulary is stunning. I love the time he put into capitalizing random letters. Girls do that.

  16. Sean P. Says:

Here’s the commentating.. ok what do you think about Nady this year, oh well i dont know Bob i think he’s a great player… Home run by Ryne Howard…. Well bill i certainly don’t think they’ll trade Nady, blah blah blah

  17. Rob (the Phils fan) Says:

Is there a link for the game

  18. benjamin franklin Says:
