Mets Lose Alou 4-6 Weeks To Hernia Surgery

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Wed, March 05, 2008 09:36 PM

Mets left fielder Moises Alou will miss four-to-six weeks as he undergoes surgery on his right hernia. He left Port St. Lucie Wednesday because of a strain, and flew back to New York for an MRI. He will have surgery Thursday.

“I myself have never seen so many injuries at one time,” said Mets Manager Willie Randolph.

David Wright, however, didn’t call them injuries.

“There’s a difference between being banged-up and injured. We’re not injured, we’re banged-up.”

Whatever they are, they’re not at full strength, not by any means. We all knew Alou would get injured at some point this season — that’s his nature. But this early in the Spring? It could be a long and painful season for the Mets. Already they’re searching for a contingency plan for first baseman Carlos Delgado and a platoon partner for right fielder Ryan Church. Now they’ll need to add another outfield spot to that help-wanted list.

For the record- Moises Alou pees on his own hands.

I just want to know how it’s possible that they have so many people injured at one time. And particularly, at this time. Is the work they do in ST so rigorous that their entire team, with the exceptions of Wright and Reyes, can’t play in ST games? What could they have their guys doing down there? Anyway, here’s to a not-so-speedy recovery for all of them.

moises alou, jorge posada and several latin players that dont wear batting gloves pee on their hands. supposedly they feel it enhances their grip. personally I dont care if it helps moises hit .330 the only problem is he’s there only half the time. Yes our team is really banged up, so it looks like the phils are the team to beat right now.

not so speedy recovery ? dont; you guys wanna beat the mets at full strength ?

  3. dan Says:

i think it’s more to prevent calluses on their hands, but you’ve got the gist of it.

i’m just saying that in retalliation to all the mets’ fans attitudes towards the brad lidge injury. as soon as that post came out, on OUR blog, you guys were all over it. the mets will be at full strength by may most likely, and we will beat them then, just like last year. i’m not hoping they die or anything, i’m just trying to wish ill-fortune upon them.

Peeing on your hands, is still peeing on your hands. Alou, Posada, I dont care who you are. All this is, is an excuse for Mets fans when the Phightins beat the crap out of the mets this year. Mets fans will just whine about their team not being a full strength. GOLSON FOR MAYOR

  5. Harper Says:

Don’t forget how they cheered when John @#&$% Lannan broke Utley’s hand. Hypocrisy is a Mets fan’s calling card.

  6. Sean P. Says:

Hey i heard eating your own poop makes your knees stronger. Maybe Carlos Beltran should try it.

  7. Rob (the Phils fan) Says:

Sean, about your idea. I dont feel stronger

  8. Sean P. Says:

    woops i forgot the discaimer…

    DISCLAMIER:

do not actually try unless your a mets fan or player
