Gamenight: Cubs (6-4) At Phillies (5-6)

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Sat, April 12, 2008 05:30 PM

It was a very nice win for the Phils last night, as Brett Myers pitched strong through eight innings and Pat Burrell unloaded a couple hits, including a homer and RBI double. Some slow parts of the offense got going, too (Shane Victorino, Greg Dobbs).

Tonight Cole Hamels gets his third start, with his first two being fantastic outings. His last was a solid seven. He’ll face Ted Lilly, who fooled Phils’ hitters last year in a 4-1 win, then was figured out and chased in a 4-1 loss. In that game, Hamels faced him and both Aaron Rowand and Tadahito Iguchi hit homers off him. Looks like we’ll need a boost from the righties tonight. Jimmy Rollins will likely sit out again, as his ankle feels as good as it did a few days ago.

Phillies: Cole Hamels (1-1), 1.20 ERA
Cubs: Ted Lilly (0-1), 9.72 ERA

Gametime: 7:05 p.m.
Weather: 69 degrees, partly cloudy
Lineup: Victorino/Werth/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Feliz/Ruiz/Bruntlett/Hamels

Your gameday beer: With Hamels on the mound, we’re hopefully and probably getting a nice, long outing with plenty of strikeouts and baffled looks. Of course, Ted Lilly has a penchant for striking out and forcing grounders to Phillie hitters, so this could be a breeze of a game. That said, tonight is the perfect early spring evening to enjoy a Sam Adams White Ale, a crisp, wheat beer that is great for relaxing and watching a great pitcher at work. Eat before you drink tonight.

Go Phillies!
