Your gameday beer: As I’m down at Citizens Bank Park right now enjoying a Yards India Pale Ale, you should be too. It’s got the fruity flavors of orange, mango and peaches inside, and it just goes down so smooth and crisp. A beautiful taste of Philadelphia to enjoy for this simply awesome pitching matchup. Enjoy, my friends, and have a cheesesteak.
Go Phillies!

Our bullpen was all used up last night (14 inn) So Santana’s gotta give us 7 + . Should be a fun game against a tough line up. Hopefully Santana doesnt have the HR bug in him tonight, Bad ball park for that problem.
Go Mets !
April 18th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
Was reading Stark on ESPN.com..If the phillies go year to year with howard AND hamels as he hints at, thats disgraceful. both players would revolt and they wont pay for it anyway. theyll have to trade howard. theyll try and go year to year with hamels, but it wont work. i hate the way they do business. just pony up the cash for hamels long term, you dont screw around at all with that. to me, that would have been done already if they did it right. hes already a little irked at the team. if they screw him over again hes outta here too. and if they lose hamels and fail to sign him long term, thats an unforgiveable sin worthy of refusing to renew ticket packages in the future. its a no brainer, sign him THIS YEAR to a long-term deal and cough up the money.
April 18th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Ruiz….just unreal. absolutely unreal. i’m really furious at this.
April 18th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
Not quite sure that I buy into this argument yet. I do understand the emotions, but baseball isn’t about emotions at the upper ‘business’ levels. There is only one reason to pony up a huge amount of extra cash for Howard and Hamels right now….keeping them happy. That’s it, no other reason.
Now, keeping two of your major stars happy is a good reason to consider something beyond what you would ordinarily do, on a business level. Everyone is most certainly NOT equal, in life or in baseball.
However, assuming the ballclub at least has the framework of a budget each season, and assuming that we would all like to see the club improve from year to year, as well as have the financial flexibility to make improvement in-season should they so warrant, tying up any money that you don’t absolutely have to tie up is just plain dumb.
The Phils will be walking a tightrope here going forward. The fact is that they simply must not allow these two home-grown products to walk away, assuming they remain productive and healthy. Their talents are enormous, and their popularity will only grow as they continue to display them for the paying customers, and especially if the club keeps winning.
Right now, the Phils are fine. They should do what they are doing: evaluate the situation year-to-year, and make any prudent moves when those situations so warrant. Today is not that day.
April 18th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
My apologies, I failed to notice this string was specifically about tonight’s Phils-Mets game. Thought it was about the Hamels-Howard contract situations.
Malcolm said it best: Philllies. Mets. Hamels. Santana.
‘Nuff said!

GO PHILS!!!

GAME ON
April 18th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Well i’m beating a dead horse here for me, but the decision to play Ruiz has already cost us a run.
April 18th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
Just got a report from the stadium that the mets fans are acting like just as much of classless assholes as they were at their own park last week. I’m hearing they are very loud and aggressive and beggin to start fights even in our own park.
April 18th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
Mike W. – I agree with you on Ruiz, not a good call.
Also, my buddy is having part of his bachelor party at the game tomorrow – we’re tailgating at 11AM for a 4 o’clock game. There will be 15 of us — add 4 hours in the sun, 7 or 8 beers, and some asshole Mets fans… yeah. I’ll have a report Sunday morning.
April 18th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
Mets fan picking fights in NY, Yes definitely. But I’d be shocked if they pulled those stuns at cbp, we’re outnumbered there.
April 18th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Reyes was so fu$#ing out on that steal it was absurd. umps screwing us for 3rd time in 1 week
April 18th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
dude are you kidding me, he was safe by a mile. I wish they took him out of the game, no reason to risk his health, willie is an idiot. by the way real class, to cheer when someone gets hurt. i thought met fans were classless ?
April 18th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
met fan, go back to metsblog. what hte hell are you doing on here anyway? you can’t honestly say that he was safe and keep a straight face. glove tagged helmet before hand hit base. not sure if you’re familiar with the rules, but that means out.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
let me guess, you also think reyes was safe last thursday. shock.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
also – kinda like your OWN FUCKING ANNOUNCER was happy when jroll hurt his ankle vs the mets.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
True Met Fan – I’ll be in parking lot K9 tomorrow. I’ll have on a JC Romero jersey – please stop by…. please.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
that was close but i think he was out at the plate. i can admit that. but he was absolutely safe at second just now. I still dont think he should be in the game. not worth the risk. but our manager is an idiot. nice of you guys to applaud when someone could be possiby hurt. real class.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
met fan — after the stories i both heard AND SAW at shea last week, just stop talking. it was the pure definition of classless.
i usually play the peacemaker in these situations, but after what i saw last week, i honestly hope at least 20 met fans are sent to the hospital or are arrested this weekend. it’s only fair.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
hold on, which announcer was happy about jroll being hurt ? if you ever really listen to met games on met radio, or watch on sny, they actually respect him a lot. and keith hernandez loves jroll. so does ron darling. so not what youre talking about. metsblog blows, basically metsgeek and this site are the only well written blogs.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
also doucebag, find me 1 opposing fanbase that wont applaud when the opposing team has a very minor injury. reyes had absolutely wrong with him there. the only bad thing philly fans have done with injuries is applaud when irvin hurt his neck. and even after we all realized how bad it was, he got a standing ovation on his way off the field, but of course the national media will never mention that.
that being said, reyes just might have sprained his pu$$y. i’ll applaud that.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
dude i just said i expect met fans to act like idiots at shea, i was at opening day when you guys won and saw stuff being thrown at phillies fans, and lots of fights so we get it. both fans act dumb. but where’s the class in applauding a player getting hurt ? let me guess thats ok because mets fans act like jerks ?
April 18th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Keith hernandez was very happy when rollins hurt his ankle? were you watching sny at the time? he mentioned how the mets kept throwin to 2nd base, and how it was stupid. then after rollins got hurt, he mentioned how it ended up bein great strategy b/c it injured rollins.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
both fans are jerks. no doubt about that. sorry, both fans HAVE jerks i mean. but the philly fans get WAY worse treatment by the media. what i witnessed last week at shea, i have NEVER seen at a phils game. eagles game – yes – but not phils.
my point is that clapping when reyes gets a small little hit on the head is not a big deal at all. you’ll find that at basically every stadium in america. it’s not like he got beaned in the ear with a pitch.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
sprained his pussy ? classic philly statement. isnt that what used to happen to bobby abreu anytime he ran back tracking a flyball at the warning track ?
April 18th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
yes – that did happen to abreu. you are correct (seriously).
the interestin thing about this rivalry is that roles have been reversed in the past 2 years. last year we were super insecure, and probably were the bigger aholes to the opposing teams fans.
this year, it’s not even close. you guys (mets fans) are so angry about what happened last year, and we are the ones with the calmer smugness.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
calmer smugness ? dude if you guys get swept in any these met/phils series you’ll be just as irate. and it dont mean shit if im pissed its the millionairs playing baseball, those fuckers like beltran who cant do shit under pressure, has to back up his statement. and abreu is a little pussy thanks for giving him to the yankees.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
met fan – we wont be irate. why? b/c it’s april. and last may and april, we were down 8 games to you guys. so we wouldn’t be nearly as mad. we’ve come back before.
abreu is/was soft. no doubt about that. i was a huge abreu supporter and i still know that. not as soft as rolen, but still soft.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
j.c. romero jersey, got it ! see you there. i’ll take 2 hot dogs and a heineken. thanks.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
rolen was one of the best third basemen i’ve ever seen, he just didnt care about playing in philly even for a huge contract.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Both sides are being classless in this thread.
Anyway, I don’t think anybody truly cheered Reyes being hurt. Making mountains out of molehills. Stop trying to create controversy.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Ha, it had nothing to do with not caring. He literally couldn’t stand a single negative statement by the media. A reporter would write about a bad game he had, and he’d go home and cry (seriously). He can’t play in philly, he couldn’t play in nyc or boston. he’s a midwestern guy. it’s a personality thing. but it’s pretty pathetic.
also, please note, he ran himself out of st. louis the way he did in philly. the guy, despite talent, obviously has issues.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Gnomicide – wouldn’t say both sides are being classless. Certainly not compared to what’s probably going on at the stadium and what went on last week. It’s just good natured banter….at least that’s how i’ll take it.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
so fuck off Gnomicide, dont get in the way of a met-phil argument
April 18th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
santana better finish this game, wagner still makes me shit my pants. i dont trust him at all.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
I read Resenthal saying “go year to year with howard then LET HIM WALK”. what? this guy should know better. only stupid teams do that. you gotta keep him or get something for him while you still can. you dont pass up chances to get value in return. but philadelphia teams do that a lot, which is why they dont win titles. recently though, holmgren did the right thing last year but avoiding that and being the exception. he got value for forseberg bigtime. i wanna see this team succeed and build a team that can win a few titles and i dont know that theyll do that by doing business this way in major league baseball. meanwhile…WAY TO GO CHASE UTLEY. Putting Santana in his book.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
utley is locked up right ? too bad, if he was a FA he worth any price especially for a 2b.
April 18th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
LOL
April 18th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
doesnt seem like there’s as many met fans down there as there normally are.
April 18th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
lets go mets ! and please no wagner or heilman.
S A N T A N A !!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 18th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
D O B B S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 18th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
dude – heilman SUCKS. he is fucking awful. obviously i only see him when he plays us, but he gives up runs every time!! i dont understand it.
April 18th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Ding Dong Dobbs!!!
April 18th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
Aaron Heilman is my favorite pitcher by far.
April 18th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
Burrell v Wagner in the 9th!! gonna be great. P da B gonna murder the Rat yet again.
April 18th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
I don’t think we can get another run. Offense has been flat all season with the exception of yesterday. I don’t like it.
April 18th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
Mike T — I feel your fear there. Howard will K. gonna be up to pat to get the inning started
April 18th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Howard will K big time. Burrell’s gonna need to get on base somehow – we don’t have anyone to pinch run for him though. So, it’s going to have to be all long balls here. Home run, sac fly, something off the wall, etc. in order to score Burrell or Feliz.
April 18th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
ryho – flashing his glove….
April 18th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
He’s becoming a liability at first base. Game over – I’ll talk to you guys tomorrow.
April 18th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Ugh this pessimism hurts.
Cold and logical isn’t the way I play. I think the Phils have a great chance to take this game in the 9th.
April 18th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
i did until that top of 9. mike t… “becoming”? a defensive liability???
i think he’s been there for a little bit…
April 18th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
I’m a realist, Gnomicide. We have no chance. Goodnight.
April 18th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
finally you made some sense mike t.
April 19th, 2008 at 12:28 am
I was at the game tonight. Fans weren’t as bad as they usually are–less Met fans than usual, actually–but the game was kind of flat all around. Reyes was getting booed because the trainers were taking so long with him it felt like stalling. It’s a good tactic to get the SP off of his timing, too, don’t forget that. Immediately after than Hamels gave up a hit that scored Reyes, so it worked.
April 19th, 2008 at 2:19 am
Id hate to think that maybe they should have traded him this past offseason, howard i mean, because now you have to wait until he has top value again which could take a while
April 19th, 2008 at 10:36 am
howard blows
