Gamenight: Phillies (12-11) At Pirates (9-13)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Fri, April 25, 2008 04:46 PM
The Phillies received great relief pitching and timely hitting in a 3-1 win over the Brewers yesterday. pat Burrell continued his mammoth, machine-sized tear, while Tom Gordon defused a Brewers rally in the seventh.
Tonight the team meets Pittsburgh for a three-game set with the Pirates. The offense faces lefty Zach Duke. The Pirates will face Adam Eaton. Ryan Howard is not starting again, per manager’s orders. Instead, we have a crazy lineup: Brad Harman gets his first start, Chase Utley is at first base and Chris Coste is hitting fifth.
Phillies: Adam Eaton (0-0), 4.74 ERA
Pirates: Zach Duke (0-1), 4.37 ERA
Gametime: 7:05 p.m.
Weather: 75 degrees, stormy
Lineup: Taguchi/Werth/Utley/Burrell/Coste/Feliz/Bruntlett/Harman/Eaton

Your gameday beer: With Howard out of the lineup, we need a hammer. Grab a Long Hammer IPA from Redhook Brewery. Not great, but certainly not terrible, it contains some citrus flavor and a light, almost minty kind of taste. Eat a chili dog with it — beef up, the Phils may need you to hit cleanup.
Go Phillies!

Odd looking lineup. But 2-0 already thanks to Coste!
April 25th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
And immediately Manuel’s move to start Coste and drop him into the No. 5 slot pays huge dividends.
April 25th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
thanks steve smith for being at a graduation bc if you were here you wouldn’t send utley and it would only be 1 to 0…romon henderson for full time 3rd base job…any1 else with me
April 25th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
Yeah the lineup blew my mind.
April 25th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Gutsy call by Ramon, however, for sure. But Utley goes hard the whole way and screws up Doumit in the process. It was a good call.
April 25th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Ha. Utley picks at first better than Howard.
April 25th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Jayson Werth is unreal. What a player — liking him more each at bat.
April 25th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
Machinista! Great hustle by Burrell the whole time – Phils take advantage of Pirates poor play.
April 25th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
feliz just cant hit….he grounds out to the left side more then not…he cant hi and we bring him into field and itseems like hes not very good at that either….henderson for 3rd base coach!!!!!i like his agessiveness with burell to, m not sure smith makes that call
April 25th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
Burrell was going strong the whole way — glad Henderson let him go there.
April 25th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
Welcome to the Big Leagues, Brad Harman!!!
April 25th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
how abewt coste on nites like this at first base? any clue if he could play there? i dont like seeing utley play first bc i dont want his throwing to get ewtta sync
April 25th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Boy, I really like Jayson Werth. What a player.
April 25th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Coste can play first; it’s a nice idea. And you make a good point about getting Chase out of whack by taking him off second. Also, are you drunk? “ewtta”? That’s way off.
April 25th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
ha nah…its one of the stupid sayings goin around my frat right now…my grammer is terrible on this site…im soryy i just tpye with out a care
April 25th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
it sounds like uutta or ootta or oot type thing
April 25th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
Really liked pulling Eaton there — show the idiot he has to pitch well to stay in games. Chris, no problem. Just make sure you’re drinking right now.
April 25th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
whats new from feliz…do we know if milt is working with him? because it seems like he has a ton of probllems with his swing
April 25th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
i should be drinking…had finals this week plus i got to watch eaton pitch
April 25th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
durbin had a game like this comming…cant blame him hes pitch well so far so i let him off the hook for this
April 25th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Well they had to make it interesting…
April 25th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Big job, Durbin. Offense: DO WORK.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
tim its seems like were the only two thats not out for the friday nite….where did every1 go
April 25th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
too early to sub him!!!!!!!! this really pisses me off
April 25th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
four groundouts to the left side…this is not unusual….his swiing is only built for that
April 25th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
I’m going out in a bit; I bet everyone else is out. No worries. Shit, you should go out too.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
I’m not watching the game. Did Bohn run for Burrell as a defensive replacement or did Burrell get hurt?
April 25th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
def replacement
April 25th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
April 25th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
sigh of relief…..a little early for that.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
We’ve been getting some gutsy W’s, but damn, we sure don’t get ANY easy ones.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
Thats the lineup we all pictured out of ST isnt it. In fact it looks like an actual ST lineup. Damn.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
no easy 1s ever
April 25th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Hey, Sixers are HOUSING the Pistons. Awesome.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
why would you bring Howard out? Gordon has a better shot at moving the runner.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
im making a bold prediction on this atbat that howard will strike out
April 25th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
FOUL!
April 25th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
wow how suprising
April 25th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
AND HE MOVED THE RUNNER! great AB, Ryno!!!
April 25th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
Howard is so lost right now.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
i dont see the logic in bringing him out to face one of the toughest pitchers for lefties to hit.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
Again, you don’t bring in a player you intentionally sit to pinch hit. Bad, bad, bad.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
i disagree. the game is far more important than psychological maneuvers. I just don’t think that was the right spot. If we could have built on 6-0, then that is a leisure you can afford to take.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
Romero = clutch.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Sorry, Greg, but Jenkins would’ve at least put his bat on the ball. Howard needs to sit and not be part of the action. Even Charlie said himself that it got to the point where it didn’t matter who was on the mound (because he owned Suppan). It doesn’t matter the situation; Howard should NOT have hit.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
i have a bad feeling bout this half inining.i hope im wrong
April 25th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
wow this slider is vicous
April 25th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
ive never loved being wrong more
April 25th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
i think we’re arguing different points. Game trumps scheduled day off, but in this case Howard might as well be swinging a toy bat right now.
April 25th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
Lidge is dirty
April 25th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
Brad Lidge is RIDICULOUS.
April 25th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
Wow. Lidge is dealing so far this year!
April 25th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
nice to see we can still win when Utley and Burrell show they are still human and have a slow night.
April 25th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
God the Phils suck, chock this one up as another one in the L column.
April 25th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
wtf u talking abewt
April 25th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Thanks Matt, I mean Gnomicide. “abewt” is becoming part of the Nation’s vernacular.
