Gamenight: Phillies (4-4) At Mets (2-4)

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Wed, April 09, 2008 05:30 PM

Yesterday the Phillies took game one against the Mets by getting beaten to a pulp physically. Hey, you take it any way you can.

Today, more bad news for the Mets: Orlando Hernandez had another MRI because of pain in his foot — the foot he originally injured. Jimmy Rollins sprained his ankle yesterday but will start tonight. (UPDATE: He was a late scratch and is not playing.) Mike Pelfrey gets his first start of 2008 for the Mets.

Phillies: Kyle Kendrick (1-0), 7.20 ERA
Mets: Mike Pelfrey (0-0), 0.00 ERA

Gametime: 7:10 p.m.
National TV: ESPN2
Weather: 53 degrees, mostly cloudy
Lineup: Victorino/Bruntlett/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Jenkins/Feliz/Ruiz/Kendrick

Your gameday beer: They’re trying to throw a monkey wrench into their plans. Jimmy Rollins’ sprained ankle took the … legs … from under them yesterday, but the Phils still won. For that, grab a Monkey Wrench Strong Ale, an English strong ale that screams toffee. Because the only way to combat a monkey wrench is to down one yourself. What to eat with it? A heaping, hot bowl of beef barley works.

Go Phillies!

i dont think rollins is starting…

  2. Mike W. Says:

    JROLL IS OUT.

  3. Tim Malcolm Says:

    Last minute scratch.

  4. Tim Malcolm Says:

BTW, this is the part of MLB.tv that sucks. Game is blacked out on MLB.tv because of national broadcast, but national game is blacked out in CT because of NY broadcast. meanwhile, I don’t get NY channel.

    Sucks.

  5. Mike T Says:

My ESPN2 channel is showing ESPN News instead of the game. Not sure why… I guess I’ll watch on CN8.

  6. Gnomicide Says:

I don’t get CN8, ESPN2HD is “temporarily off the air” and ESPN2 is showing ESPNews.

What the bloody hell is going on?

  7. Mike W. Says:

Kendrick shakey so far, and a tough E call on Utley (although I think a good one). So Kendrick’s run was unearned.

  8. Mike T Says:

Comcast is having the same issue, I’m guessing it’s all ESPN.

By the way, we’re not going to win games with Eric Bruntlett at shortstop. We need Jimmy back immediately.

  9. Mike W. Says:

kendrick looks terrible and the ump has a very tight strike zone. not a good combo. mets have em loaded…

meanwhile down at the wach center, sixers up 4 in a big one.

  10. Mike W. Says:

Mike T, damn good point. A victorino-bruntlett 1,2 batting order is quite pathetic. We look A LOT worse on paper with jroll out.

sounds like he’ll be back tomorrow.

  11. Tim Malcolm Says:

Well, really, Chollie shouldn’t put Bruntlett in the 2-hole. It’s a ridiculous idea. Why give Bruntlett more AB potentially than Utley and Howard?

    Shoot, we should be Utley/Victorino/Burrell/Howard/Feliz/Jenkins/Ruiz/Bruntlett/Kendrick

  12. Tim Malcolm Says:

Also, so I bought this Wild Blue beer today, thinking to get something different; and it was a blueberry beer, so I thought, “heck, I like blueberry beers.”

It’s freakin’ grape juice laced with alcohol. This is horrendous. Bad purchase, good lesson.

This is why I make beer recommendations for you guys. I sit through the shit so you guys can have a good experience.

  13. Mike W. Says:

    reyes with another terrible play!

dont forget, kendrick still has a no hitter…

  14. Tim Malcolm Says:

Man, this ump is horrendous, but so is Kendrick’s location. And this beer.

  15. Mike W. Says:

Kendrick really really stinks. I know I’m reacting early here (1.5 games), but my guess is he’s back in the minors by the all star break.

  16. Paul Says:

Wow… the Phillies don’t deserve to win a game like this. UGLY!

  17. Mike W. Says:

That’s it for me. Full time sixers watching for the rest of the night.

  18. Tim Malcolm Says:

Just a bad, bad, bad, bad showing.

  19. Mike T Says:

    Tim,

I think it would be cool if you guys embedded a chat room on the blog that would be activated during games. I guess Jason Lyons would be in charge of that? Something to think about.

I can’t watch anymore of this game tonight, it’s just horrible. I’ll be back on Phillies Nation tomorrow.

    Go Phils.

  20. chris m Says:

feliz is really bad at the plate….and what happened to him being a good glove.he should of had the ruiz play. F*CK HIM…bruntlett is another story

  21. Mike T Says:

If our offense is truly as good as people hype it out to be, we will still win this game. Pelfrey is a joke and the Mets bullpen is even funnier.

  22. Brian Michael Says:

    Mike T-

Not coincidentally, Jason and I were talking about adding a Game Day chat room today. We’ll let you know what we decide.

  23. Tim Malcolm Says:

Getting more and more disturbed by Ryan Howard as we progress. He’s striking out way too much.

  24. Paul Says:

What else is new with Howard? He’s gunning for 200 K’s this year. I really like Howard, but unless he cuts down on the strikeouts, he won’t be worth the mega million $$$ he will be looking for…

  25. Greg Says:

Cut our losses, Kendrick to AAA, Durbin to the rotation, Benson or Rosario on the roster. Or both. And send Condrey to Siberia. Guuuulllagggg!

  26. Geoff Says:

Unloading Ryan Howard after this season is looking like a good idea actually. you could build a championship-level squad with the score of prospects hed reel in. you still gotta like the big guy, but when hes flirting with the mendoza line thats bad. i would like my team’s resident slugger to make contact with the ball more than he does. i keep thinking this is why philly teams havent won championships over the years. they always get superstars, but not the kind of superstar or the superstar at the right position that wins you a championship. they dont seem to know how to take that superstar and trade him for a score of key players needed to win a championship. this seems to apply through all the main sports here. this is the time now to take advantage of that. if he doesnt want to adjust his demands to stay here than get him out of here while the rest of the league still thinks hes a great player. if he keeps striking out like this hell enter the realm of being overrated. if adam eaton pitches well tomorrow then perhaps it will make me feel better. it will also help if it doesnt rain on saturday when i get to the ballpark.
