Gamenight: Phillies (9-10) At Rockies (9-9)

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Mon, April 21, 2008 07:00 PM

A little bit of offense went a long way for the Phillies yesterday, as they beat the Mets, 5-4. The bullpen held their ground, winning a battle where Chase Utley hit two home runs and Pedro Feliz knocked the game-winner.

Now the Phillies head to Denver, where they meet the team that eliminated them from their first playoff berth since 1993. They’ll face lefty Mark Redman; against lefties, the Phillies are hitting just .231. Kyle Kendrick, off his best start of the season, goes for the good guys.

Phillies: Kyle Kendrick (1-2), 4.40 ERA
Rockies: Mark Redman (2-1), 4.60 ERA

Gametime: 8:35 p.m.
Weather: 56 degrees, partly cloudy
Lineup: Taguchi/Werth/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Feliz/Ruiz/Bruntlett/Kendrick

Your gamenight beer: I’m not recommending Coors, no, that would be cruel. Instead, we’re going with Hazed & Infused by the Boulder Beer Co., a nice pale ale with some citrus taste hidden inside. Drink it with some salmon, caught from the lakes of Colorado, if you should.

Go Phillies!

How come the game isn’t being aired tonight on it’s original channel? Does anyone else here have comcast? It says the game is on CN8 at 8:30, but when i click ”reminder” it says the game isn’t even on???? WTF???…Any help here would be appreciated, Thanks

  2. Rob Cowie Says:

Sitting in Pat’s in LoDo. Packed with phils fans. Hopefully the philly enthusiasm will translate into a W tonight.

  3. Mike T. Says:

chris.I: I have Comcast - I just noticed that it’s not listed at all. It doesn’t look like we’re getting the game tonight. Not sure why, I’m a little pissed off.

  4. Rob Cowie Says:

You can get game updates here on phillies nation

  5. chris.I Says:

Yea I know..Hopefully its just a mistake with the cable?? If I’m correct it did the same thing last year too. Guess we’ll find out in about 15 min. If it’s not aired, I expect Rob and the rest of the ”P.N” would be good spectators LoL. But this def blows for sure

  6. Mike T. Says:

I actually prefer to watch Howard strike out 4 times, rather than read it about it on here.

  7. chris.I Says:

HaHa..Yea! I know right? I’d say 2 K’s, a DP, and a pop up to the pitcher instead LoL

  8. erik Says:

    phillies are on cn8

  9. Tim Malcolm Says:

I got it on MLB.tv, guys, so I’ll give you all updates as well, though mine won’t be as drunken and ridiculous as the boys at Coors.

  10. Mike T. Says:

Hey Chris, as Erik said - it is on CN8.

  11. Steve Says:

    Utley is freakin awesome

  12. Tim Malcolm Says:

I think I can hear you guys in the crowd. Third base line?

  13. Tim Malcolm Says:

    Well hello, Alanna Rizzo.

  14. Tim Malcolm Says:

    Ugh. Torrealba? Come on, Kyle.

  15. Clare Says:

Yeah, I heard someone yell “Come on, Pat!” when he was up. And is it just me or are these fans cheering for everything??

  16. Mike T. Says:

I already stopped watching the game - I can’t watch our offense struggle anymore. I’m switching to Flyers/Caps.

  17. chris.I Says:

Yea I know..Comcast is a bunch of retards. Glad we all got to watch it. We’ll be alright though, Its only the 3rd inning.

  18. Gavin Says:

These are professional hitters. WTF? Why are they so undisciplined up there. Damn!!!!!!!

  19. Brian Michael Says:

We’re between LF and 3rd base, 6th row…if Holliday tries for any foul balls, you’ll see us interfering.

  20. Rob Cowie Says:

Its a cold night with minimal action. Beside the torreabla bomb and utley turning that 463, its been pretty mellow. Not a lot of spectators in the crowd but the phils fans are here in force

  21. Tim Malcolm Says:

    Yeah Machine!

  22. Mike T. Says:

Pat needs to bat 4th until Howard gets hot (if he gets hot).

Watching Aaron Heilman collapse against the Cubbies is great - looks like the Mets are going to drop game 1 in Chicago.

  23. Mike T. Says:

Ugh, nasty slide piece - when did KK develop that one?

  24. Tim Malcolm Says:

    Pheeeew. Nice job, Kyle.

  25. Brian Michael Says:

it’s a lot harder to talk smack to Rockies fans when KK is serving up bombs. the wind’s blowing in also.

  26. Mike W. Says:

    WOW!! J WERTH!

  27. Tim Malcolm Says:

    Oh baby! Inside the parker!

  28. Brian Michael Says:

    WOW!!!!!!!

  29. Clare Says:

Holy fuck Chase can’t be human!

  30. Tim Malcolm Says:

    HOLY SHIT! UTLEY!

  31. Mike W. Says:

utley is LOCKED IN. he is gonna be MVP.

  32. Tim Malcolm Says:

That’s six in five games and ties a franchise record with five straight games with a homer.

  33. erik Says:

seems like the offense is coming alive a little bit…howard has yet to k tonight..impressive

  34. Clare Says:

Are you just repeating what the announcers say? =p

  35. Mike W. Says:

Taylor Bucholz! The lower merion product.

  36. Mike T. Says:

I guess I’m not as easily impressed as everyone else here. Chase is a huge talent, but I overlook him because the rest of our lineup stinks.

  37. Brian Michael Says:

That was quite a sophisticated double-switch for Charlie.

  38. Fran Says:

I dont understand why Charlie takes out Pat when hes on 1st for a pinch runner. Takeout howard on second and let pat finish the game. Cant anyone on that bench play 1st?? It dosnt make sense. If we make a late run i want pat at the plate not Ryan. Anyone else agree with that???

  39. Mike T. Says:

The only way we’re scoring is with a walk.

  40. Mike T. Says:

    Nevermind.

  41. Tim Malcolm Says:

    CHOOCH!!!

  42. Tim Says:

oh shit, we just get the lead and manuel decides to fuck it up by bringing in Gordon

  43. Tim Malcolm Says:

Fran, I agree. Dobbs could come in and play first. Why sub Burrell there when the guy ahead of him is worse on the paths?

  44. Tim Says:

To Fran, even more than that, do you want TJ Bohn at the plate?

  45. Tim Says:

and off of that, we bring in Bohn for defense?

  46. Mike W. Says:

apparently we dont want him in left.

  47. Mike T. Says:

I can’t watch this guy pitch.

  48. Mike W. Says:

Um, he looked pretty damn crisp there. Even basically got 4 outs (thank bohn).

  49. Tim Malcolm Says:

Ooh, Flash! Looking damn good out there.

  50. Paul Says:

Why do people keep bagging on Gordon? Besides the blow up on opening day, he’s pitched pretty well. In fact, he just did a good job getting “4″ outs tonight thanks to Bohn botching a fly ball.

  51. Geoff Says:

Yes, Gordon struck out 2 and retired the side. Nice to see him in form tonight

  52. Geoff Says:

TJ Bohn, come on man, I can make that catch. seriously

  53. Tim Malcolm Says:

I guess it’s one of Manuel’s rules that Burrell must leave late in a game. But then again, like I wrote last week, when Burrell is pulled late, more than likely the Phils win.

  54. Mike T. Says:

I bag everyone except Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Cole Hamels and JC Romero.

    Everyone else is fair game.

  55. Geoff Says:

I cant stand this rockies team. It all started when they got into the playoffs last year because the umpire blatantly screwed up the call that allowed holliday to score. then a team that should have never been in the playoffs somehow got to the world series.

  56. Geoff Says:

then they got smoked by the red sox, exposing them as a fraud

  57. Tim Says:

    JC Romero???
That’s just a little too much love for half a season.

And come on, if you’re gonna go Romero, you gotta throw in Coste as well.

  58. Mike T. Says:

Geoff, that is some pretty unreasonable reasoning. However, I’ll jump on your side — I hate the Rockies!

  59. Mike W. Says:

    J WERTH! clutch.

re: the rockies vs red sox. that would a been a VERY different series if the rockies didn’t have an entire spring training b/w the LCS and WS.

  60. Tim Malcolm Says:

    Nice insurance. Keep it going.

  61. Mike T. Says:

Tim: The love also comes from what he did for us last season - 36.3 IP, 1.24 ERA.

  62. Geoff Says:

Yeah but Bostons pitching was too good. beckett was not really hittable during that stretch. Yeah i hate the rockies, which makes me be unreasonable at..HOWARD again! another punch out for howard.

  63. Mike T. Says:

Can we even get a sac fly? Doubt it.

  64. Tim Says:

Mike: I feel that, i’m just wary of relievers in this league, sometimes they get good and then go real bad real fast

But i definitely understand and love JC for what he did last year.

  65. Geoff Says:

Yes! that 28 year old journeyman ripped a nice 2rbi double

  66. Mike W. Says:

    TJ!!!!!!

who do we go with in the 9th now?

  67. Tim Malcolm Says:

    Super Bohn Bohn!!!

  68. Fran Says:

I hope they dont put in lidge save him, possibly rudy?

  69. Geoff Says:

they already used seanez, they pretty much have to use lidge here

  70. Paul Says:

Bohn’s first ML hit was a good one. More than makes up for the error…

  71. Fran Says:

well they put in lidge 2 nights in a row. What happens if were close tomorrow night?

  72. Clare Says:

Wow, how annoying is that chant?

  73. Geoff Says:

tomorrow night theyll break out tom gordon for the save if they have to. or maybe hell think out of the box and let romero save if it comes to it. i dont want to use lidge 3 nights in a row in april.

  74. Mike W. Says:

he shouldve pitched flash 2 IP i think.

    now lidge is out tomorrow.

  75. Geoff Says:

by the way, lidge has a WICKED slider

  76. erik Says:

great all around team win, it was nice to see them come from behind, good stuff

  77. Tim Malcolm Says:

I don’t mind using Lidge again; the Rox announcers make a good point: “In Coors Field, four-run lead, you still bring in your closer.”

  78. Geoff Says:

13 hits, 9 runs! nice win tonight and really nice to see the bats awaken a little more
