Martinez Strains Hamstring, Exits Start

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Tue, April 01, 2008 09:43 PM

Some important Mets news tonight, during their game against the Marlins: Pedro Martinez left the game in the fourth inning with a strained left hamstring. He gave up two home runs in the game, and left holding his left leg.

Matt Cerrone at MetsBlog predicts Pedro will hit the DL. Tough early blow for the Mets, who were hoping the legendary right-hander would give the team at least 150 big innings this season.

The Marlins won the game in 10 innings, 5-4.

  3. EastFallowfield Says:

They did gloat an awful lot over at metsblog when Lidge went down, so I guess what goes around comes around.

  4. typhoon Says:

    Mets lose in extra innings!

  5. NateB Says:

I don’t like to see people get injured, but I don’t think the Mets have the character that the Phils had all season long last year to overcome devastating injuries. The Muts will whine about this injury, while the Phils would just suck it up and be MEN. Go PHILLIES!!!

  6. SuperGrover Says:

At least our closer doesn’t have an era of 135.00 to begin the year.

Can Cole Hammels back last 9 innings?

  7. NateB Says:

Thanks to SuperGrover for proving me right. By the way, our closer is Brad Lidge. His ERA is still 0.00.

  8. Jason Says:

It was only a matter of time before Pedro got hurt this season anyway. From the highlights I saw, it didn’t look like he was pitching all that well anyway.

  9. Paul Says:

Pedro was throwing some nice fat 86 MPH straight heaters in that game. I saw 2 laser shots hit off him. I have a feeling that he might be shut down for more than a couple of weeks…

  10. rob Says:

Last year, Pedro pitched a sum total of 5 games for the Mets.

They finished with 88 wins, one less than the high flying Phils.

Last year’s team did not have Johan Santana.

And their bullpen threw 6 scoreless innings last night.

It would be a significant occurance if the Phils’ bullpen threw 6 scoreless innings in a week.

It’s going to be hard to catch a team that’s going to be 100-62, but the Mets should be able to grab a wild card.

  11. Mike Says:

Hate to switch the subject from such an awesome topic, but, back to our team….Do you all think Gordon closes tonight, if we are up 3-2 heading into the 9th???

  12. Jason Says:

“Hate to switch the subject from such an awesome topic, but, back to our team….Do you all think Gordon closes tonight, if we are up 3-2 heading into the 9th???”

    It had better be Romero.

  13. Tim Malcolm Says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if Charlie sticks with Gordon. I’m hoping, however, Cole can go eight and the offense can pull away so we get Condrey or Lahey for the ninth. Maybe a 6-1 win or something?

  14. Fus Says:

Unfortunately, I think Charlie will stick with Gordon in a Save situation, for some strange reason he has faith in him. I for one would really like to see Romero get a shot, at this point he is our best and most consistent arm in the pen. I think hes got the stuff and the attitude to close until Lidge is ready…

  15. VonHayes Says:

What is the weather for tonight? Is it going to be cold? I’d be worried about some hammies getting pulled in Philly tonight if it is. Hamels should go 7 or 8, and the Nationals pitcher is not great, so it will probably be over by then and Flash can crash for the night.

  16. Jose Reyes Sucks Says:

Ha. Pedro sucks. The mets suck. 3rd place finish this year. Buh Bye.

  17. Mark Says:

You know, it’s like I say, for the Mets it’s Santana and Maine… and three days of rain!

  18. Ashburn Says:

Our bullpen still sucks … doesn’t matter

  19. rob Says:

    Mark,

The Mets want it to rain on a day when a guy with:

15 wins, 3.56 era and 174 Ks in 177 inn takes the mound?

Whew…looks like they got away with one tonight!

  20. P DIddy NY CiDDy Says:

You know you Phillies Phans are Phucking Disgusting.

How can you be happy and cheer when a human beung is injured?

what kind of people are you?

I guess now I understand why people say Philly is so trashy.

Ever hear of Karma? if your happy when someone you don’t like gets hurt, someone you do like will get hurt.

Karma.just like how the mets played last season and lost it.

    Karma
