Gameday: Blue Jays (22-23) At Phillies (24-20)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Sun, May 18, 2008 12:39 PM
Two homers. Five ribbies. Rod Barajas was a beast last night against the Phillies … blah, blah, blah that’s a broken record.
Time to get down to business. The Phils offense hasn’t been much outside Jayson Werth and Jimmy Rollins lately — it’s time for the big boys to step up, and no better time than today, with the Phils facing Blue Jay stud pitcher Shaun Marcum. He is 4-2 with a 2.22 ERA. The Phils will counter with Kyle Kendrick, who wasn’t bad his late time out against the Braves.
Carlos Ruiz is starting today, back from his illness. Werth starts again. Rain is in the forecast yet again.
Phillies: Kyle Kendrick (3-2) 4.87 ERA
Blue Jays: Shaun Marcum (4-2) 2.22 ERA
Gametime: 1:35 p.m. EST
Weather: 65 degrees, rain
Lineup: Rollins, Werth, Utley, Howard, Burrell, Jenkins, Feliz, Ruiz, Kendrick

Your gameday beer: As we say goodbye to a Canadian counterpart, we do so in style. It’s Moosehead tonight. Cleaner than most of its American brothers, it finishes nicely and can be drank in bunches. Eat some honey glazed chicken with it.
Go Phillies!

I am not looking forward to this game today – not looking good for the Phils. Marcum has been on fire as of late, and as for the Phils…. yeah, not so good. No offense and no pitching = L.
May 18th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
What a beautiful swing from Howard on that HR. The question is can he repeat it?
May 18th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
If Kendrick pitches well theyll win this game today. Solid starts turn into wins more often than not especially with this bullpen. Theyre up 2- 0, now all they need once the rain delay passes is to sit on them with a good outing from kendrick and a good bullpen effort.
May 18th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Mike, I highly dislike your negativity. You kind of need to chill. Really.
May 18th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
Too bad Howard’s homerun won’t even count – this game is going to get PPD, there’s no way they’re playing today.
May 18th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
I’m beginning to think that, if the Phils were up by 26 runs in the bottom of the ninth with two out and “Lights-Out” Lidge on the mound, Mike T. would post something like: “There’s no way we win this game. If all else fails, the apocalypse will eventually get us. I mean, the sun will supernova at some point, right? And our pitching still sucks.”
Dude, relax.
May 18th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
The sun will definitely supernova at some point — and yes, our pitching staff is absolutely horrendous. We will not be a good baseball team until we add another quality starter to the roster. Until then, we stink.
May 18th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
I don’t even take anything you say seriously and you probably just do it for attention.
May 18th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
My comments are serious – and I don’t need attention – and I probably know more about the Phillies than the people who criticize me. I know this team, I know what we can do, and I know what we can’t do. And I know what we need to win a World Series – and we don’t have it right now. This is not a sound baseball team. Do you know what sound means?
“sound” (adjective): uninterrupted and untroubled, vigorous, thorough
The Phillies are not a sound team. If you’re someone who thinks otherwise, you absolutely know nothing about this organization, from the management down to the players on the field.
This blog is a place for people to vent. So, if you don’t like it, ignore it. But hey, if you want to criticize me, and tell me that I’m doing this for attention, then go ahead – bask in your own ignorance, I’m not stopping you.
May 18th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
Mike T. is really ignorant and arrogant, take a chill pill. You probably dont know much about the Phils, by the way that you are talking. Ignorance is really unnatractive, just to let you know.
May 18th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Mike T. is a moron
May 18th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Mike T., I also dont understand the point of your website, explain?
May 18th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Yeah, your Web site is weird
May 18th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
I will not tend to the ignorant.
My website is nothing serious, I use it to test/publish small projects.
May 18th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Mike T, I would like to officially name you the Billy Wagner of this website. Congratulations. While you may have decent knowledge about baseball, your obnoxious nature removes any credibility from your arguments.
May 18th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
This is a good chance for Durbin to make his case for a starting spot.
May 18th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
“A cynic is a man who, when he smells flowers, looks around for a coffin.”
Henry Louis Mencken (1880-1956) American journalist, satirist and social critic.
My first impression about your non-stop, repetitive one-liner.. “they are not a good team” smacks of being petulant and a desire for attention. You seem to derive special satisfaction in stirring feedback to your negative comments. Incessant negativity can blind side your attempts with sound judgement.
However, I believe in giving a benefit of a doubt to each and everyone.
I do appreciate constructive criticism when given here. So, Mike T, I’m fairly new here and you may have went into your specifics on the team’s weaknesses and strengths some time ago. I would appreciate and maybe few others here as well if you repeat those specifics so that we can better understand your pessimism.
May 18th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
I think Mike T. is awesome!
May 18th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Mike T. -
The Flyers are down 4-0 at the end of 2. Do you think they can come back to win the series?
May 18th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Well, as we all know im very hard on them. see, i dont think they stink. they obviously dont stink in reltaion to their competition. theyre not up to the standards i have for them, though. when i say that i mean, i dont think theyre good enough to win a championship. if they stunk they would be in last place. theyre just not good enough to win a championship UNTIL they get another quality starter. then they will be a very good team. right now, theyre just good. not bad, not great, just good. their rotation is another story, however. it does stink. you have three pitchers out of five that you cringe when they go out there (Eaton, moyer, myers). mike t, you dont want to see them stinking. i remember when they stunk. i dont ever want to go through that again.
also, im sorry but they need to upgrade the 5th outfield spot over so taguchi. charlies trying but he cant even justify sending him out there. i want taguchi replaced by a right-handed bat off the bench who can provide some power and doesnt strike out all the time when he gets in the game.
May 18th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
wow lyle overbay smoked that ball.
ok so the flyers look like theyre done unless a miracle occurs. i expect them to win the stanley cup next year provided they resign carter and add some stability on the blue line by getting rid of hatcher and replacing smith.
now all efforts are focused on the phillies. im going to demand the very best out of them from here on out. they dont stink, but they need to improve the staff and the pen and the lineup in order to win a world series.
May 18th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
Royy Halladay is coming in to face Burrell.
May 18th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
Rudy Seanez doesnt do much for me. He started the year off well, but theres NO excuse for having 3 junk guys in your bullpen. Seanez, Madson, and Condrey need to be replaced with upgrades. I dont care how much money it costs, I dont care about their spending limit. Go get the tools needed to get the job done.
May 18th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Why is Condrey pitching after Romero? Charlie’s depserate at this point.

This game was annoying! Glad to see Pat hit number ten! Too bad nobody was on base when he did it.
