Gameday: Phillies (21-16) At Giants (14-22)

Posted by Brian Michael, Sat, May 10, 2008 03:20 PM

Is J-Roll’s return going to provide the Phillies with the offensive spark they’ve been looking for?

Has Ryan Howard turned the corner or is he still flirting with disaster?

Will Jamie Moyer show another young pitcher who’s the boss?

Can the Phillies extend their league-leading road wins to 12?

These questions and more will be answered this afternoon as the Phillies take on the Giants for the fifth time in nine days. 23-year old Tim Lincecum takes to the mound for San Fransisco after going six innings and allowing 4 unearned runs in his start last Sunday against the Phils. He has a 9.00 ERA against the Phillies in his career but is pitching at the 1.49 mark this season. Jamie Moyer was drafted the same month Lincecum was born (June 1984).

Phillies: Jamie Moyer (2-2) 4.15 ERA
Giants: Tim Lincecum (2-1) 1.49 ERA

Gametime: 4:05 p.m. EST
Weather:
50 degrees, fair
Lineup: Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard, Burrell, Jenkins, Feliz, Coste, Moyer

Your gameday beer: Keeping with the San Francisco theme, this afternoon’s beer is Anchor Steam. Brewed in the Bay Area since 1896, this drink has a deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor. You can drink it with anything, but I’m gonna recommend some bar food like chili fries or nachos.

Go Phillies!

another great preformance by moyer…can’t wait to see a duplication of this by eaton tomorrow

  5. Geoff Says:

I was going to get back on the moyer is done rant today. but i dont even feel like it.

  6. ryan Says:

moyer is solid. just like on most things, and just like typical philly fans, you are all overreacting. guarantee moyer has 13 wins and a 4.5 ERA come september 30th. calm down. you know what you’re going to get with jamie. a solid bottom of the rotation hitter. nothing more , nothing less.

  7. ryan Says:

that’s pitcher. not hitter. excuse me

  8. Geoff Says:

THAT is my problem. hes the third starter. he should be the 4th or 5th guy. you need someone better than him in there to push a lower guy out of the rotation

  9. ryan Says:

well there is no doubt they’re gonna need to pick someone up to push eaton out of the picture. maybe benson is that guy, but i’m hopin they pick up maybe AJ Burnett if he’s healthy at the deadline.

  10. Lewisauce Says:

I love this team. I want to be optimistic. But we’re not going anywhere — even if we make the playoffs, we’re not winning a series — without another solid starter. I love Moyer, but he’s a No.4-5 guy. Our No. 4 (Kendrick) is a AAAA pitcher. And our No. 5 (you-know-who) should be tossing salads at the Olive Garden, not meatballs to big-league hitters.
