Gameday: Phillies (27-24) At Astros (29-22)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Sun, May 25, 2008 01:19 PM
Another bad loss for the Phils against Houston — Brett Myers was ineffective and the offense couldn’t do any more than what Ryan Howard gave them. The offense hasn’t quite worked for two straight games. Is today the day they turn it around for two straight?
Cole Hamels goes for the Phils. Hamels has thrown 19 consecutive scoreless innings. The Astros will throw Chris Sampson out there. Righties are hitting an astounding .350 off him. The barometer will hit 90 degrees in Houston at gametime. Hamels has a 3.46 ERA in his two daytime starts this season.
Phillies: Cole Hamels (5-3) 2.61 ERA
Astros: Brian Moehler (2-3) 5.91 ERA
Gametime: 2:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 90 degrees, mostly sunny
Lineup: Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard, Burrell, Jenkins, Feliz, Ruiz, Hamels

Your gameday beer: On this warm Memorial Day weekend, good beer is a must. I’ve always like Hoeegarden, which can be enjoyed in small sips with good food. It flows smooth and tastes like citrus. Have some barbecue chicken with it.
Go Phillies!

Today is win day! We need it to win the road trip. I really wanted 3 out of 4 but with the Astros as hot as they are a split is not so bad.

fuck victorino…….he sucks…. myers had another bad start but it could have been atrocious. he got out of a lot of tight spots and still gave up four. it could of been 3 IP with 6ER
May 25th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
victorino sucks..agian he cant score the runner
May 25th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
He found a new hobby. Leaving runners on base when the team needs him most. I say put Werth in center when he comes back and trade Victorino for a starter.

Myers had ovefr 120 pitched in only 6 innings. he was constantly battling and constantly in trouble. that was a terrible performance. number one guys cruise through innings, and hes not doing that.
when hamels gets shelled which rarely happens you know theres cause for concern here. they really need another starter, badly. theyre relying on one or two guys and one of them is a 5th starter! you cant do that. need help now
May 25th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
wow. thats an alarm bell right there. when you have to pull your ace after FOUR innings. do you guys get the point yet? they need at least TWO more starters in this rotation so that its not a tradgedy when cole does have his rare bad day. you need a split out of this series. totally disgraceful and unacceptable. theyre going to need another june callup to save the rotation AND a number two acquired through trade. victorino has to go. they have to do it soon and not wait until theyre SEVEN games back. they need to fix it now.
they had BETTER get to the astros bullpen today and they had BETTER win this game today.
no excuses.
May 25th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
wow victorino does something when we already took the lead…if we were still losing hed pop out but since we tookthe lead he decides to do something that little retard…hamels was in control till the umpire break….reminds me of when reyes faked his injury and cost hamels…just some bad luck
May 25th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
wtf with charlie pulling burell so early..hes fine at defense….hes actually a good defender hes just slow as opposed to taguchi whose fast but sucks at denfense
May 25th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
this is what i expect this team to do. bounce back and shell the opposing teams suspect bullpen.
May 25th, 2008 at 4:49 pm
madson for cleanup duty…..lidge will probaly have to come in for the save
May 25th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
I went away for an hour or so, then saw chris’ comment and though, “what? they’re winning? that much”
May 25th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
After being convinced that we were going to drop a series to the Astros I was pleasantly suprised at the rally in the 6th and 7th innings. Good effort by the bats today! I found myself earlier today talking a lot of smack on Victorino and Jenkins and both of them really came through in this game and I was very happy to see it. Great win! Burrell for MVP!

Coming home for a strong run to the top of the division.
Best Phillies pitcher after Hamels is Moyer and he has been a steady force for 2 years.
