Your gamenight beer: Festina Peche is the Dogfish Head beer that pours out yellow but tastes citrus sweet. It’s a good beer to sip and enjoy for a long while, and you know I like recommending easy beers when Hamels is on the hill. Eat some grilled catfish with this.
Go Phillies!

RYAN HOWARD IS BACK.
May 15th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
A. Shortest Gamenight post of the year. What gives?
B. Howard is absolutely not “back”.
May 15th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
You are negative in every sense of the word. Seriously, I had to run around like a chicken all day and was swamped at work. Cut me slack. Also, Howard is back. I called it.
May 15th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
good ab for howard(even though it was an out) whos looking a lot better lately(seven game hit streak). he is climbing back. also a great rip by victorino, would like to see him pick it up a little
May 15th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
cole hamels is throwing a gem.. possible complete game?
May 15th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Tim, the slack has been cut. I enjoy all of your posts, even the brief ones. Oh, and your boy Howard looked real nice getting K’d up - he’s back for sure. 1 for 3 with a HR and a K, yipee.
May 15th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
its a shame that this place i buzzing when we lose, but nobody is on here talking up cole hamels. what a game. great job hamels. amazing. exactly what this team needed
May 15th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
Great game by Cole Hamels.
If we’re a good team we’ll move on and sweep the Jays.
May 15th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Howard is back as is the Cole Train. What a great game! Now we just need to beat Scott Rolen this weekend!

WOW! great performance by cole hamels. THAT is what ive been talking about. i know cole has the ability to perform like this, and its very gratifying to see him go out there and mow people down. they get a free pass tonight. they earned it with a steady performance on offense and an outstanding career night (so far) for cole hamels. i dunno about purcey because i havent seen him before, but shaun marcum is pitching well this weekend. aj burnett is doing ok but not up to what you expect from him. big weekend for the back end of the rotation, if they drop the ball its alarmo time. but for right now, they earn the free pass and a compliment for cole’s performance.
May 15th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
A beauty by Hamels…..and Mike T. dude I’d take Howard’s 1-3 with a HR and a K over 0-4 with 3 k’s everyday of the season. A hit every three at bats in more than satisfying and he’s hit in seven straight. Honestly he’s never going to win a batting title. But I’d, and I think a lot of people, will take performances like these with ease. I think your expectations need to come down a little bit. He’s not going to be an MVP every year. Small steps man, small steps.
Overall a solid win, bring on Scotty and his Jays!
Plus, the Flyers won!
May 15th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
Good to see Hamels throw a gem like that. And also good to see the Phils take 2 of 3 from a division rival.
May 16th, 2008 at 2:38 am
It was no contest in this game of opposing lefthanders.
Cole Hamels was simply brilliant. After the Braves #2 hitter singled in the first, Hamels retired the next 15 hitters he faced. The next guy to reach on Hamels was Gregor Blanco who singled to centerfield in the sixth inning.
James only lasted four, being pounded for 3 Phillie homers.
May 16th, 2008 at 3:52 am
While I’m not going to pronounce Howard “back,” the past week or so has been encouraging. And he did fine tonight. I’ll take 1 for 3 with a solo dinger (yeah, he’s gotta hit more with men on base, but as someone said, small steps, man, small steps).
Cole is the man. I hope Myers was watching how it’s supposed to be done.
Seriously, if Myers would only play to his potential every time out — or not even every time, I’ll hope for 75 percent of the time — then this team is looking like a contender. As has been pointed out, Kendrick, despite the fact that some guys here don’t like him, has been producing statistically “quality” starts. I’ve always been firmly in the pro-Moyer camp. So Myers is the missing link. If he can be consistent (problem is, I doubt he can), that would leave us with only one piece of sh*t in the rotation, and it’s not all that difficult to replace one turd as the season wears on.
Anyway, great win. Two of three at CBP against the Braves, plus a flat-out dominant pitching performance that gives the ‘pen a rest = big smile in my book.
May 16th, 2008 at 7:52 am
There’s no big smile in my book because I just looked at our probable pitching lineup for this weekend.
May 16th, 2008 at 8:19 am
The free pass ends on the opening pitch. With Moyer, it ends as soon as I see him on the TV or near the mound if its in person.
May 16th, 2008 at 8:20 am
Remember three of the five guys in this rotation absolutely suck right now so theres plenty of time for harsh criticism.
May 16th, 2008 at 9:04 am
i am happy to see some positive messages. good stuff fellow optomists. mike, you seriously have got to be the most negative person i have ever come across. relax a little man and enjoy this team. they are good and we are in for a wild ride all summer. think about this way, you could be a mets fan.
go phils
May 16th, 2008 at 9:26 am
Im hard on this team because I demand excellence from these players, and if they dont do it I advocate getting someone who will. However, being negative for the sake of being negative is a protocol violation. Theres no reason to rip them for anything that happened last night.
May 16th, 2008 at 9:31 am
Mike T - just promise us you won’t consider taking the toaster with u come bath time.
Howard 3 HR’s in 5 games…i’m not that good at math, but for fun’s sake, what’s that - roughly 100 dingers in a season? Flyers won! My boss is leaving early today! The only thing missing is Gennessee Cream Ale…..
