Gamenight: Giants (13-17) At Phillies (17-13)

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Sat, May 03, 2008 05:16 PM

The Phillies remained in first place in the NL East with a huge walk-off win last night. Pat Burrell continued his torrid start with a two-run, game-winning home run off Brian Wilson to give the Phils a 6-5 win over the Giants.

Tonight Brett Myers is on the hill. He said he’s been long tossing and studying game film. Good. He needs to go seven tonight – anything less would be uncivilized.

By the way, go Flyers!

Phillies: Brett Myers (2-2), 5.11 ERA
Giants: Matt Cain (1-2), 4.41 ERA

Gametime: 7:05 p.m.
Weather:
63 degrees, cloudy
Lineup: Werth/Bruntlett/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Dobbs/Victorino/Ruiz/Myers

Your gamenight beer: I won’t do this often, but tonight I am. I’m at my brother’s housewarming/mom’s birthday/niece’s communion/friend’s new baby/my reclaim my life party in northeast Philly (Ashton and Willits if anyone wants to stop by). We’re grilling, watching the Phils and Flyers and drinking kegs of Rolling Rock. That is our beer tonight. Drink it. Have a burger with it – you’ll need it.

Go Phillies!

Lets trade Ryan Howard to the mets

  3. Greg Says:

OK, Howard, we put up with your pathetic April, now your surrounding cast is sputtering and we need some offense. This is where good players put their own personal demons aside and carry the team. You think you’re worth 10M a season? Prove it on the damn field.

  4. Geoff Says:

Yeah if hes still struggling by the all star break then its time to trade him to a team that thinks they can fix him and get as much as you can get for him. by by the deadline you coulld get a young starter to take myers place as the second “best” starter on the team.

  5. Geoff Says:

    but they wont do that.

  6. Brian Says:

He just needs to stop dropping his left shoulder and dial in his swing. It’s a mechanical flaw that can be fixed and I think it’s too early to give up on him. Put him in the 5 or 6 spot until he works it out though, Pat should be hitting clean up.

  7. Mark Says:

The Phillies won the final with the Giants 6-5, winning the type of game that the good clubs, pennant-type clubs win consistently.
