Gamenight: Phillies (19-15) At Diamondbacks (22-11)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Wed, May 07, 2008 07:57 PM
Last night Adam Eaton didn’t pitch well enough to give the Phillies a win; tonight, Kyle Kendrick will have to baffle the Baby-Backs, as he faces Micah Owings. While Owings isn’t dominant, he sports a superb run support of 6.63 (of course, almost all the D-Back starters have high run support numbers). It’s up to Kendrick to subdue the tough Arizona offense.
Phillies: Kyle Kendrick (2-2), 5.01 ERA
Diamondbacks: Micah Owings (4-1) 4.42 ERA
Gametime: 9:40 p.m.
Weather: 84 degrees, sunny
Lineup: Victorino, Bruntlett, Utley, Howard, Burrell, Jenkins, Feliz, Ruiz, Kendrick

Your gamenight beer: I don’t necessarily want to honor an opponent’s player, but Micah Owings is Jewish, and how often do we get to drink Jewish beer? Here is He’Brew’s (good name, eh?) Rejewvenator (good name, eh?). Though it’s not the one pictured (that’s Genesis 10:10, which is retired — to the sauna ha ha ha), it’s a German-type (ironic?) kind of beer with multiple flavors and textures. Drink it with — uhhhh — matzo.
Go Phillies!

Kendrick needs to step up tonight and have a big start. It will help regain his confidence and get him back on track.
He really needs to stop trying to make perfect pitches and let his defense do the work behind him.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
I’d like to take the time to welcome the Phillies back down to Earth – welcome home, Phils.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Another game, another high-pressure situation strikeout by Ryan Howard.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Ryan Howard is ridiculous. I never thought I’d say this, but maybe Pat Burrell needs to talk to him about confidence at the plate.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
I hope RH is investing his 10 mill wisely b/c thats the last time he ever sees those dollars again.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Good to see Charlie remembers how to play small ball – especially since Ryan looking more like Pedro Cerano every game.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Just keep batting him cleanup……he’ll break out of it…..in August.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
KK is trying to set a record for most pitches thrown in the first 3 innings of a game.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Second thought — could the FO and Charlie be so devious as to keep putting RH in a spot to fail to keep his arbitration # down?
May 7th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Don’t you think its time to drop Howard in line up? Leyland dropped Sheffield to 6th in his slump. I know its a different deal over there in Detroit, but seriously…
.165
May 7th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
The second half of our lineup is such a joke.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Come on Kendrick, hang in there for two more buddy boy!
May 7th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
The second half isn’t too bad, Mike. A bunch of .250 hitters… the usual deal.
May 7th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
The bigger issue I have with the bottom of the order besides their BA is the fact that they don’t work counts as much as they could….(se Pedro’s weak 1st pitch fly out)
May 7th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
Danny, their BA’s have nothing to do with it – it’s their approach. They don’t play tactical baseball, they seem to have no baseball sense at times.
May 7th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
I think Ruiz is OK. Feliz and Jenkins I agree with you cause.. “THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!”
May 7th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
ryan howard sucks… hes a fluke..please prove me wrong so we could trade his sorry dewragin ass
May 7th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
My girlfriend’s watching RENT… but a better option than this game. Night folks.
May 7th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
I am totally serious when i say this: you can really get someone off the street to come in and hit .165 in the majors. like half the people in this room could do that with an mlb-trainer and some coaching in the offseason. you know how bad .165 is? almost anybody can go hit that bad. thats SO pathetic. i played hockey most of my life and not enough baseball and i could go out there and hit like .150 in the national league. but id never make the team because id be terrible, but this guy is out there still and hes that bad right now. come on. enough is enough make the adjustment and get him lower in the lineup.
May 7th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
sepretate him and utley.late in the games the leftylefty hur us but with a righty inbetween it would guve us better matchups….omg while i type this howard just did that..did my scenario make sense?
May 7th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
this guy has totally quit since getting paid. he just dropped a catchable double play ball.
May 7th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
What is your source for stating Micah Owings is Jewish?
May 7th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
howard and his fucking dewrag is every other teams best player
May 7th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
howard needs to stop thinking hes hood
May 7th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
they said it b4 the game o n the station im watching
May 7th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
I think Phils need to manufacture a Howard “injury”.
May 7th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Why does Jenkins play? Why not Werth every night? Even when Jenkins gets a hit I still think he sucks.
May 7th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
pete happy!
May 7th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
if they dont do it i might pay hhim a visit myself and he mite come out with an injury……get out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! feliz!!!!!!!!!!!! he sucks but ill take that..everytime i type we do something good
May 7th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
see i dont mind feliz. If you think about it last year we had wes helms in that spot. Feliz is definatly an upgrade. Give him time, remember this is a whole new club and city hes with. He just moved 3,000 miles. Let him get adjusted
May 7th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
he is an upgrade. its aaron rowands numbers they miss. theyre hoping jenkins/feliz can replace that but im just not sure
May 7th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
my money is on Howard breaking you in half and not breaking a sweat in the process. maybe thats just the thing he needs to get out of the funk.
May 7th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
ryan madson..
May 7th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
maybe all the phils just need a good ol’ bench clearing brawl to get their bats moving
May 7th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
greg your prob right…hed could kill me and nobody would know bc hed hide me in his nostrils
May 7th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
feliz..youre not a-rod. just make teh grab first.
May 7th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
btw…madson sucks too
May 7th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
madson and condrey shouldnt be on this team. they need a swingman starter/longman in madsons slot and they need a solid left handed middle reliever in condreys spot
May 7th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
Boy, these D-Backs announcers are the worst. If I hear Mark Grace say “gas.” one more time I might scream. Maybe he’s farting a lot. I don’t know.
May 7th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
im so pissed right now…..why put madson in a close game?
May 7th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
darn. kendrick had a quality start and madson cannot hold for one inning. they have to do something about at least condrey hopefully madson too
May 7th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
romero is so clutch
May 8th, 2008 at 12:03 am
fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 8th, 2008 at 12:04 am

May 8th, 2008 at 12:07 am

May 8th, 2008 at 12:08 am
wow nice call by chuck to not bunt…nice to see victorino alrite for now
May 8th, 2008 at 12:08 am
gotta mention that bruntlett has improved lately.
May 8th, 2008 at 12:09 am
atta boy
May 8th, 2008 at 12:10 am
nice to see chase do something
May 8th, 2008 at 12:11 am
bruntlett has looked like a differant guy lately but howard looks the same
May 8th, 2008 at 12:11 am
CHASE! Now Howard breaks out and puts one off the left field wall
May 8th, 2008 at 12:11 am
does howard always start 0-2 or is it me
May 8th, 2008 at 12:13 am
all this pitcher has to do is throw a tailing two seam sinking fastball away from howard. hell whiff on it and look silly
May 8th, 2008 at 12:14 am
goes inside on him and..MEGA golf swing hack whiff
May 8th, 2008 at 12:14 am
good job advancing the runner you stupid fu@$
May 8th, 2008 at 12:15 am
Howard is actually comical at this point. I can’t do anything but laugh.
May 8th, 2008 at 12:15 am
start bunting him for chrissakes
May 8th, 2008 at 12:15 am
yeah he is like a bigclown up there.
May 8th, 2008 at 12:16 am
The last six minutes or so (ever since Vic got on) have been frozen on both espn and cbs live gamecast…..anyone have a reliable and free way to keep track of whats going on if I’m not near comcast?
May 8th, 2008 at 12:17 am
mlb.com game cast any better?
May 8th, 2008 at 12:18 am
thats what i use at work
May 8th, 2008 at 12:18 am
I use MLB.com’s Gameday if I have to watch from the computer. Much better than ESPN gamecast.
May 8th, 2008 at 12:18 am
i would demote howard at this piont but i would send him to sinle A becuase he wouldnt be able to hit anything else
May 8th, 2008 at 12:20 am
Much thanks
May 8th, 2008 at 12:21 am
What do you think would happen if Eaton/Condrey pitched against Howard? I think the universe would implode or something. It couldn’t handle it.
May 8th, 2008 at 12:23 am
HAHAHHAHAHA
May 8th, 2008 at 12:25 am
i dont like doin the double sitch with pat…much rather see it with feliz
May 8th, 2008 at 12:27 am
Oh be serious, if its in the first three innings, Eaton would strike him out with RH looking horribly. In the 4th, holding a big elead, RH hits a long HR which brings him closer but then Adam can’t take the preesure and throws wildly while RH swings just as wildly…..then the universe implodes upon itslef
May 8th, 2008 at 12:30 am
nice 1 more
May 8th, 2008 at 12:31 am
Big out here.
May 8th, 2008 at 12:32 am
great job from flash!
May 8th, 2008 at 12:35 am
Yea, props to Gordon. This would be a huge save if Lidge can come through. Very unexpected win, in my mind at least.
May 8th, 2008 at 12:37 am
Why didn’t they double switch so you don’t have to use a PH here?
May 8th, 2008 at 12:49 am
A lot of people like to rip on Gillick, but getting Lidge is looking like a hell of a move!
May 8th, 2008 at 12:49 am
i dont know how anyone complains about our pitching, cause we have pulled some Ws from our ass with our lame hitting. Lidge is nasty.
May 8th, 2008 at 12:51 am
Yep, Lidge and ( to our chagrin) Floyd and perfect examples of guys getting new starts and flourishing. Keep up the good work Brad.
And Bruntlett has had a heck of a series so far (good way to go out I guess)
May 8th, 2008 at 1:17 am
Good ass game! It was worth staying up until 1:00 on a work night to watch us get this important win. Anyways…As much as I say Howard sucks, and watch him strike out 80% of the time, I know he’s still capable of turning the tables around. When Howard slumps, the team picks him up..But..If hes capable of turning back into his old form, with the team playing the way we been, Nobody will able to fuck with us. I do agree that Charlie needs to move howard up in the lineup for a little while, until he gains more confidence, and becomes more patient.
May 8th, 2008 at 2:33 am
i guarantee that by the end of the year howard has 45 bombs and 125 steaks
May 8th, 2008 at 7:26 am
I’m watching the innings I missed on MLB.tv – and I have to say the Diamondbacks announcers on FSN Arizona are absolutely horrible. Mark Grace is such an idiot, I feel bad for the people in Arizona who have to listen to this guy every game.
May 8th, 2008 at 7:29 am
Just saw the Jackson/Victorino play – Connor Jackson is a bitch.
