Gamenight: Phillies (24-22) At Nationals (20-26)

Good stat: The last time the Phils were shut out by Tim Redding and the Nationals, they scored eight runs in the next game.
Bad stat: They also gave up seven runs in that next game.
Good stat: Cole Hamels is coming off his first career complete-game shutout., giving up four hits and walking two.
Bad stat: Hamels was the victim in Redding’s first start against the Phils this season.

OK, we’re reaching when Cole Hamels is on the hill. I expect a dominant performance by the entire team tonight. Good pitching, strong hitting, maybe six or seven runs and an easy win. That’s what I expect. Jason Bergmann is on the hill for the Nats — he’s been Myers … no … Eaton bad this season.

Despite saying Jayson Werth was an everyday player, for the second-straight game, Charlie Manuel has put Werth on the bench.

Phillies: Cole Hamels (5-3) 2.89 ERA
Nationals: Jason Bergmann (1-1) 7.45 ERA

Gametime: 7:10 p.m. EST
Weather: 60 degrees, partly cloudy
Lineup: Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard, Burrell, Jenkins, Feliz, Ruiz, Hamels

Your gamenight beer: Brewed in nearby Virginia is Spring Brew by Old Dominion Brewing Co. It’s a gentle, fruity beer that is very smooth despite being a double pilsner. For dinner, make yourself some pan-fried noodles with chicken. Enjoy.

I was at the game last night - totally uninspired performance. I do not get how Manuel can NOT play Werth, Coste and Dobbs. I know they are more role players but they are performing better then they players that are playing now! Frustrating is a word that does not even begin to describe my emotions leaving last night’s game.

  2. Mike T. Says:

Wow - any other night and that Zimmerman ball would’ve been 20 rows deep.

  3. Mike T. Says:

Time for Pete Happy to take a little break. Yes Charlie, I know it’s Gillick’s boy, and that he paid too much money for him, but you need to go with the guy who’s hitting over 300 - Dobbs. Sure, Dobbs won’t hit over 300 all year, but he’s the one producing NOW: ba .345 obp .381 slg .500. You’d think Dobbs would be in there at least once a week. Nope, not on this team.

  4. erik Says:

Beautiful job by hamels getting out of a tough situation. I do believe we have the best pitcher in baseball(not quite yet, but give him a year or two, he is only 24)

  5. Paul Says:

I’m glad Phils hitters cower with fear against the Nats starting pitchers.

    Frustrating!

  6. Mike T. Says:

Yes, brilliant game so far by Cole. I don’t expect any less, the guy is now showing he’s an ace.

Our offense on the other hand…

  7. erik Says:

hamels is the man. in all aspects of the game. hopefully the mvp can bring home some runs

  8. erik Says:

or never mind they are scared of j-roll

  9. erik Says:

damn, cant fault victorino though, he hit it on the nose

  10. erik Says:

this is the inning to make some noise, lets see if the middle of the order can pick their game up a little bit

  11. Geoff Says:

great outing by hamels, 11k’s. is bergmann really that good? no. this lineup needs to be shaken up to shock them into reality. trading shane would shake things up nicely i think. start hitting there with RISP guys.

  12. Tim Malcolm Says:

Yeah, Howard is swinging well again. Bullshit. He looks as lost as ever. He’s a lost cause.

  13. erik Says:

i agree that the lineup really needs to pick it up, but all of this talk of victorino kind of bothers me. team chemistry is very important(one of the major influences on last years run) and i think trading away a clubhouse favorite like shane will destroy this teams chemistry, and i believe that will be the beginning of the end for this team.

  14. erik Says:

alright, lets play some small ball and get lights out in the game

  15. Brian Michael Says:

    It’s Lidge Time!

  16. erik Says:

to the more pessismistic bloggers-i fully agree with you that the offense was once again horrible tonight. however, and i am sure you will agree with me, a win is a win is a win, and i will gladly take it.

  17. Mike T. Says:

Embarrassing display of offense - but after watching the last three games, yeah, I’ll take it.

  18. Tim Malcolm Says:

Thank God for Greg Dobbs, the best pinch hitter this team has seen in years.

  19. Geoff Says:

pitching wins. get me pitching. the offense was just as bad tonight except they had a real pticher in there with hamels. makes all the difference. i dont see shane as a linchpin to the team. i see trade bait.

all things being equal, this is the type of game they had to gut out and win tonight.

  20. deborah Says:

what is happening on the joe valentine home front with the phillies will he be expected to be brought up to the majors i think if they don t screw with him like the reds in those yrs screwed just about everybody he will be a big big asset to the bulpen if given the prper chance

  21. Robert Says:

    real situation in Georgia
