Gamenight: Phillies (26-22) At Astros (27-21)

Ryan Howard and the Phillies’ offense got the bats going last night, so there’s definitely hope things continue in the positive direction. Still, the Phils will now have to face Roy Oswalt. The Astros’ righty is 6-1 with a 2.79 ERA against the Phils for his career.

Kyle Kendrick goes for the Phils. He has been quality most of the season, but nothing spectacular. I predict a tough, grinding game where the Phils will have to limit a potent Astros offense. Lance Berkman is one of the Majors’ top run producers, and he leads baseball with 16 homers and has an NL-leading 44 RBI.

Maybe the big storyline of this game: Brad Lidge and Eric Bruntlett come back to Minute Maid Park for the first time since being traded in the offseason. It’s uncertain the kind of reception Lidge would get, but I’d think it would be positive.

Phillies: Kyle Kendrick (3-2) 4.76 ERA
Astros: Roy Oswalt (4-4) 5.43 ERA

Gametime: 8:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 82 degrees, mostly sunny
Lineup: Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard, Feliz, Jenkins, Dobbs, Ruiz, Kendrick

Your gamenight beer: The Phillies visit Texas for the first time this season, so it’s high time to get hot. Check out Rogue Brewery’s Chipotle Ale, a spicy concoction of jalapeno flavors and just good beer. Eat some buffalo wings with it, partner.

Go Phillies!

wow, according to yahoo both werth AND burrell won’t be in the lineup tonight. maybe we’ll see bruntlett in left field against his old team? i can’t imagine taguchi has hit well enough to warrant a start.

  2. Bill Says:

Great point on Kendrick. Tonight will be a tough game for him. If he can do the normal 6 innings 3 runs, the Phillies have a good chance to win. Oswalt is a tough opponent!

  3. Geoff Says:

the phils first two hitters looked like they were trying to get out.

also, benson isnt coming anytime soon. they need help form someone else.

  4. MS Says:

Geoff- can you send the benson line?

  5. Matt Says:

    Howard’s back!

  6. Geoff Says:

i just said benson gave up 4 runs in 4 innings in AAA. not bad for first time back in a year for a 4-5 era pitcher but hes not ready yet. itll be a while i think. so they need to try something before hes ready because they dont have the time to wait for him. eaton and myers are killing this team. they gotta replace at least one of them ASAP

  7. Geoff Says:

nice to see howard string together some small fashion of consistency. at least a positive from him rather than a negative.

i swear this pitching staff will drive me to the padded rooms by seasons end. theyre maddening

  9. Mike T Says:

I can’t wait until the Marlins series – I’m so tired of their shit.

  10. Mike T Says:

    Werth’s hurt – nice.

  11. MS Says:

    i see. thx geoff

  12. erik Says:

mike- totally agreed. i am sick of them talking all their shit. i cant believe that asshole that came on here yesterday claiming ugly to be better than utley. then he ran away before anyone could argue his points. but one thing we can be sure of is that they will get what is coming to them.

    Go Phils

  13. Tim Malcolm Says:

Though it was practically out of necessity, using the whole bench isn’t the best idea there.

  14. Tim Malcolm Says:

    Woooo. Good win.

  15. chris m Says:

great win! awesome to see howard start to come around..yep i said it…it really looks like it…even his strikeouts tonite he looks confident and the swing looks good… trade value is what im thinking

  16. Geoff Says:

Ok – Phillies trainers and manager: when in doubt, DONT play werth. its ok to put him on the 15-day DL. but please dont screw this up by making his injury worse.

  17. Geoff Says:

Kendricks ERA is over 5 now, thats cause for a little concern. however, he just needs to do what weve come to expect from him: 6 innings 3 runs. if yorue 5th starter can do that consistently thats not really so bad considering all the horrible pitching out there. thats an issue though because you need someone to bump him to the 5th slot. eaton cannot do that guy and they need someone who can be a solid 4th guy. the 4th starter is actually supposed to be good on a world series team, not average. kendricks ok, but hes a good 5th starter not a 4th.

oh well, they won. so hopefully these concerns will be addressed by the nex time the rotation gets around to kendrick.

nice to see ryan howard mash a little to the opposite field. also, nice to see burrell get a pinch hit hr.
