Bizarro Phils Show Up Vs. Lohse

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Sun, June 15, 2008 11:10 AM

The Phillies must’ve been wearing their black uniforms Saturday, because after a night when they put up 21 hits, they come back the next day and put up four. And two were from the pitcher. The Phils fell short, 3-2, miffed by former colleague Kyle Lohse.

Lohse went eight innings and struck out three against his former team, while who else but Ryan Franklin cleaned up the game for his ninth save of the year. Much like Rod Barajas and Wes Helms earlier this season, former Phillies find a way to get under the skin of this current brand.

The offense was stale. Jimmy Rollins couldn’t get it going again and went 0-for-4. His slump is starting to stick out like a sore thumb. Shane Victorino, Chase Utley, Geoff Jenkins, Pedro Feliz and Carlos Ruiz all had 0-fer games. Pat Burrell homered to get the Phils two runs, but that was it.

The loss went to Adam Eaton, who gave up three runs but, as usual, kept the Phils in the game. He went 6.2 innings, scattering nine hits while walking one. His ERA is now a respectable 4.57. JC Romero pitched a scoreless remainder.

Phil, I tried that Summer Shandy. Two words: Lemon Pledge. Yowza.

  2. Phil Says:

    You didn’t like it?

  3. Tim Malcolm Says:

Nah it was good, fine for summer. But it’s probably a little too lemony for regular drinking.

  4. OZ Says:

let’s get it back today fellas! tough loss, Lohse pitched a pretty good game. one loss. Go Phils!!!

  5. Phil Says:

Yeah, I agree Tim. It’s totally a summer beer. Have you tried Purple Haze?

  6. Tim Malcolm Says:

I’ve tried Purple Haze — it was a while ago. I love raspberry beers, and that’s one of the better. My favorite is UFO Raspberry Wheat by Harpoon.

  7. Phil Says:

I’ll have to try that. I’m a HUGE fan of Purple Haze. It’s one of my favorite beers. I’m sure you’ve tried a lot of the Troeg’s beers? Dreamweaver, Wheat, etc.

  8. Tim Malcolm Says:

Sadly I’ve just had the standard Troeg’s pale ale. I can’t get it up here in CT; next time I’m home I’ll have to grab a 12er.

  9. Phil Says:

Yeah, good call Tim. email me sometime, I’ll give you a giant list of awesome beers to post. The Summer Shandy I suggested because I had just had it that day and really enjoyed it. It would turn anyone off that isn’t into Lemony stuff, but I’m a huge fan of lemonade in the summer. I just picked up a 6er of Magic Hat #9 for the game. I haven’t had it in a couple of months, and it’s a hot day.
