Rangers Flush Phils; Sickness Starting To Settle

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Mon, June 30, 2008 09:10 AM

Panic button?

We all would like to hit it after this latest loss, a 5-1 drop against the Rangers. Lifeless is the right word for this — the Phillies look dead. They couldn’t hit Eric Hurley, only getting five total. Meanwhile Jamie Moyer pitched OK, going 5.2 innings and giving up three runs on seven hits. He walked four but struck out six; still, he got the loss and is now 7-6.

This one just never looked good. The usual things happened. No hitting with runners on; no getting on base in a first at bat. Everytime the Phils go 1-2-3 in the first inning (they’ve done that a lot during this slide), I groan. It starts with Jimmy Rollins, whose average is now at .264. He brings nothing to the table anymore. He hit a double in the game, but we knew he wouldn’t score.

Ryan Howard collected the only RBI, a single that scored Chase Utley. A couple guys went hitless: Shane Victorino (Who was caught stealing; the first Phillie caught in weeks.); Greg Dobbs (Where was Geoff Jenkins today?); Pedro Feliz; Carlos Ruiz. You know, usual things.

Ryan Madson was not very effective in 2.1 innings of mop-up work, surrendering two runs on three hits.

This team needs a shakeup. A big one. And now. They’re trudging into the final 10 games of the first-half like zombies. Atlanta, the Mets and Saint Louis await the feast. There’s an absolute possibility the half could end with the Phils two or three games out of first place, leaving all of us to go ballistic. Something needs to be done and pronto.

maybe call up brandon watson and just totally pay geoff jenkins to go away and never come back. i dont even want to look at him anymore.

get so taguchi out of hree too. bring up tj bohn until greg golson is healthy then switch them.

get myers out of the organization all together. hes an arrogant asshole and he cant pitch anymore. if someone else wants to make him a reliever at the clip of 12 million next year, be my guest. trade him as part of a packag4e for your big number two guy. if they dont get a number two guy at the deadline and someone doesnt step up and fill that role from within, the season is over and they should just blow up the team.

they faced two great teams and stunk, one decent team and stuck, and one bad team and stunk. what are they going to do without reenforcements?

the idea of NOT winning the division is unfathomable. i would be furious to see them fail to accomplish that.

  2. Geoff Says:

and get shane victorino off my team. he has trade value but he makes me sick. acting like hes an all star out there while you ground into double plays, get thrown out, and fail to get on base.

they dont have anyone to replace him so theyd have to acquire somebody.

  3. Geoff Says:

they cant trade him until the flyin hawaian figurine night has come and gone though.

  4. Don M Says:

Everyone’s favorite… www.mlbtraderumors.com …. lists the Phillies as favorites to get Eric Bedard. In return the M’s would seek Shane Victorino along with Carlos Carrasco or JA Happ… Victorino and Carrasco for Bedard… I’m sure the Mariners would ask for more, but who wouldn’t pull the trigger on this one?

  5. Tim Malcolm Says:

Don, are you making this up? I see nothing at MLBTR about Bedard and the Phils, besides a last week post saying the Phils are interested.

  6. Geoff Says:

i got scared off bedard once his own manager said hes no good after 100 pitches.

victorino and happ for bedard is ok.

  7. Don M Says:

mlb trade rumors… but on page 2… there is a link from the story about scouts checking out Rich Harden when he dominated the Phillies… that link takes you to a page, on that page, there is a story under Recent Entries about The Phillies and Eric Bedard

  8. chris m Says:

geoff a few weeks ago i wanted to know the odds vic would be here for figuine day and everyone called me nuts including tim i think

  9. Geoff Says:

haha. youd think theyd at least keek him until then. that would be embarrassing

  10. ryan Says:

well. interleague play is not over and done with. so we can put this sad month of june behind us and if we do well in the division this week we are right back where we want to be. no worries. this is rock bottom.

  11. metsos Says:

Bedard is a bum, you already have enough bums on your staff. I hope you guys got better ideas then that. You are not going to win anything with Vic in center and all those Number 4 starters you have. mix in a clue. last year was a fluke I hope you enjoyed your 3 playoff games for the decade.

  12. Geoff Says:

teh first part of that statement was true.

i like though how the mets have SOME life this…thing…crawls out of the woodwork.

the mets are garbage. a bunch of arrogant old overpaid stiffs. there are three players i admire and RESPECT on the ENTIRE team.

santana, wright, and maine are the players i like and respect. the rest of them are a digrace. the mets need to be rebuilt.

omar minaya is a piece of cowardly trash who didnt have the balls to fire a manager to his face. what a lowlife scumbag.

if the phillies cant beat this garbage mets team this weekend, then this bottom-feeding mets fan actually deserves to come on here and brag.

  13. Geoff Says:

but yes erik bedard is a bum and so is shane victorino.

victorino is one of those guys that people in philadelphia like but in any other city he would be considered a bum.

  14. Don M Says:

How about that Omar Minaya… he sure knows how to build some solid ball clubs, teams that are just FULL of leaders on AND off the field…

  15. Joshua Says:

You Don’t respect Jose reyes? the man is on pace to bat 300, w/ 18 hrs, 60 SB, and 90 RBI..what more do you F***ING want?

  16. Vernon Dozier Says:

I hate to say it, but I think the Marlins are about to run away with the division. Either the Cardinals or Cubs will be the Wild Card, so I can’t see the Phillies in the post season this year.
