Gameday: Braves (49-53) At Phillies (54-49)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Sat, July 26, 2008 03:00 PM
After a poor 8-2 loss to the Braves, the Phillies will need to get some wins. Today Cole Hamels will try and halt the skid.
Ham Sandwich: Cole Hamels has received poor run support in two of his last three starts. He lost his last, a 3-2 game to the Marlins, Sunday.
Brave New World: The Braves got their first win against the Phillies since April with the 8-2 victory.
Chip Off Tonight’s Block: Chase Utley broke an 0-fer with a hit in the ninth inning Friday night. He hasn’t hit a home run since July 7.
It’s Mike!: Mike Hampton will attempt (again) to make his first start in three years today. If the Phils were to start hitting, this would be a perfect time.
Phillies: Cole Hamels (9-6) 3.11 ERA
Braves: Mike Hampton (0-0) 0.00 ERA [Debut]
Gametime: 3:55 p.m. EST
Weather: 86, sunny

Your gameday beer: Here is Blue Moon’s summer offering, Honey Moon Summer Ale. It’s a very sweet beer, one you can enjoy on a hot summer day as this. I don’t advise it regularly, but like Blue Moon itself, it’s a nice fallback this season.
Go Phillies!

I like the beer choice today. I’ve never had a honey beer I didn’t like.
Is this game on TV at all or are we going to have to watch Gameday for 3 hours?
July 26th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
My digital guide says it is on Fox.
July 26th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
I just bought a case of Blue Moon – I absolutley love it! Never tried the Honey Moon though. Sounds like it is werth a try.
FGSs Phillies, please get your act together for todays game. We need to turn this season around right now.
Going to the game tomorrow afternoon – #16 for the year + 4 in spring training
Picking Pat Burrell to hit a home run today for my fantasy pick.
July 26th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
The Phillies suck. I expect a 1-0 loss. Teixera will hit a home run off of Hamels in the top of the 8th, and it will be the only hit Hamels allows. The Philles will have 2 hits(Shane Victorino and Carlos Ruiz), 14 k’s, 2 walks, 3 bats dropped from bad swings, 4 dirty looks at umpires for looking at a strike down the middle, 2 arguments with an umpire, the stadium erupting into boos 7 times, and Jimmy Rollins will get benched.
July 26th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Oh yeah, GO GIANTS!
July 26th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
Gillick just said on the radio that everyone is giving 100%. Roliins is clearly not. Swinging at the first pitch every time is not giving 100%. Rollins also is getting doubled up and hasn’t had an infield single in 10 months.
July 26th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
Just don’t trade him to my new favorite team. I’ll take the old man Vizquel over Rollins. At least he plays with heart and tries.
July 26th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Hampton is either going to pitch an 8 inning gem today, get blown out of the game in the second inning, or get injured in the first inning. If Hampton pitches a great game, Hamels will as well, but give up a solo home run or two which will put the game out of reach for the offense. I think the bullpen will bounce back (if this game and down the stretch) but Eaton (realistically Condrey but Eaton is worse than Condrey despite the difference in salaries) should be DFA’ed for a good lefty reliever, several of which are still available which the trade deadline fast approaching.
July 26th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Today’s a new day, and with Cole on the mound, hopefully an end to this skid. Think positive and pray for the best. Oh, my Nostradamus pick for the day is Hampton leaving after 3 1/3 with a sore shoulder or some other injury.
July 26th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
oh, and Bear Mike, I like Burrell going deep today too. He loves those lefties.
July 26th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Burrell hits more homers off of righties. Doesn’t matter, Burrell could go deep today, it’ll be a solo shot because the Phillies don’t have baserunners anymore. If Burrell hits a solo shot they’ll lose 2-1. They won’t win. They’re horrible.
July 26th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Burrell is hitting .133 lifetime against Hampton in 30 AB’s with 2 doubles. I say he gets on the board today.
July 26th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
I just turned the game on because I’m a masochist. Why do I do this to myself? These Fox reporters should be shot.
July 26th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
That was a good play. At least their defense has been solid. Pitching, D, and situational hitting is supposed to win us games. Too bad they only have 2 out of 3.
July 26th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Rollins got a hit…the ball hit his bat. He got lucky.
July 26th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
True, pat does have 100 more HR’s against righties than lefties, but there are many more RHP in MLB than lefties, so it’s all relevant. Statistically speaking, though he has a higher ratio and a much better avg against lefties I believe.
July 26th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
1st of all Rollins should have stole when Vic was up and had Vic bunt him over to 3rd. I can’t even watch anymore.
July 26th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
Pat hits righties better. He kills a rightie with a slider. Pat can actually hit the breaking ball. He loves sliders that shoot across the plate and down to his ankles that are thrown by righties. He kills those.
July 26th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Okay, but my point is that his average against lefties over the years has been better. and there aren’t as many lefties in the majors as righties. and the ratio of his XBH’s from LHP’s over the years is equal to, or higher than, those against RHP.
July 26th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
There we go Pat. Now let’s get them in!
July 26th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Wow, more piss poor situational hitting.
July 26th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
ugh…. bases loaded for the catcher… dp.
July 26th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
this team is situational hitting challenged
July 26th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
nevermind
July 26th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Eureka, there it is after all this time. Thats huge because there is no way Hamels wouldn’t have gotten frustrated if they got nothing there.
July 26th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
It’s about damn time.
July 26th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
they may not be finished here…how nice would a four spot be?
July 26th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
Another poor at bat…The frustration stems from a lack of an approach leading to poor at bats. Obviously they are’nt going to get a hit or move runners everytime, but check swings with runners in scoring position in a hitter’s count are ridiculous.
July 26th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
just heard a radio ad with carlos ruiz selling cars
July 26th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
used cars right
July 26th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
HS! Trouble is brewing. Tied at 3. Funny, I was just getting ready to say how good things look today. F-me!
July 26th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
WTF!!!! 6-3!!!!!!!! Make that a double F-me!!
July 26th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
shitttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
The wheels have well and truley fallen of Cole in this inning.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
Well, this game imploded fast. Thanks Cole.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
Well this turned into a little league game real fast. Hopefully the Nationals can’t catch us from 18 back
July 26th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
I leave for 15 minutes and come back to see a 6-3 game!!! WTF!?!
July 26th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
“Slyder”
“Kurvaball”
“Fassball”
July 26th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
that’s the comercial!
July 26th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
Oh f*** right off.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
fucking unbelieveable. i’ve had enough
July 26th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
DOUBLE DAMMIT! HAMELS is starting for me…. freaking ERA of 27!
July 26th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Wow, can Hamels only pitch well when he gets no run support?
July 26th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Holy Christ, 9-3. I’m really trying to believe in this team, but we may never see 1st again.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
They play it all the time here in the Lehigh Valley. My wife regularly mocks it when he hits into a double play.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
and to think people thought i was crazy when i said just 5-6 days ago that cole hamels doesn’t win big games.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Looks like we’re finishing in 4th this year.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
last night lidge, today hamels. wtf.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
Well folks,
We were planning on going to Chesapeake City for dinner, but I have suddenly lost my appetite! 9-3??????? Cole is toast! Let’s look on the bright side, we still have 5 at bats. This team could easily do that when they are running on all cylinders. Triple F-me!!!!!!
July 26th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
Scot, you’re still a douche. This game was his fault, all the others he lost wasn’t his fault.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
Over the last week, this team may have made the quickest slide from buyers to sellers in a long time. Hypothetically, if the FO decides to become sellers, what players would they realistically be willing to part with, and what players would other teams want?
July 26th, 2008 at 5:14 pm
ah.. chase, i’m also a lehigh valley guy, but i’m living in NYC, so i gotta go with the gamecast audio, and they usually don’t play the commercials… i think i’m gonna go play MLB 2K8, where the phillies are usually winning by nine in the third inning, not the other way around.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
sell myers, eaton, rollins, howard, ruiz, jenkins
July 26th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
ms. hamels, i’m sorry, can i call you phil?
he just doensn’t win big games. not against the marlins, not against the mets, not in the playoffs, and now not even against the braves a team that the phils have dominated most the season. in a game that they must win.
disgraceful.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
BTW, does the Adam Eaton experiment start today? 2nd BTW, was anyone else surprised by how few career wins Hampton has, I would have sworn he was closer to 200.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
I can’t believe this is happening. Hamels as well, i’m in total shock. Un fucking believable. So… when does football season start ?
July 26th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
id consider being a seller after watching your phony ace give up 9 runs. hes not an ace, aces dont give up 9 runs IN ONE INNING. fraud. theyre done. time to sell some people off and get young players in there. ill bet they surge back to first AFTER selling off rollins and a few others.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
I ‘m really starting to think there’s a drug problem or something, especially Chase and Jimmy-maybe painkillers. I remember Chase wincing several times weeks ago, maybe he’s trying to play hurt. Whatever, there’s a problem internally with this team, imo.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
the wheels on the bus are falling off, falling off, falling off
the wheels on the bus are falling off
blame cole hamels.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
uh oh, pinch hitter…eaton in next?
July 26th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
the season haas had its fork put in it. How did this happen?
July 26th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
oooh there’s eaton warming up… can’t wait to see what kind of nonsense he tosses today
July 26th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
Eaton is our ace, obviously. He’e never given up 9 in an inning !
July 26th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
Geoff, Santana gave up like 8 runs to the Reds the other day. Would you say he’s not an ace? A two time Cy Young winner?
July 26th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
Cole pitching bad because Uncle Charlies lost this team and will not get them back…If Pat Gillick is smart and would fire him,we will comeback and contend for a playoff spot,if not we will be contending with the Nationals for 4th place.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
j man i agree the dumb has lost the team and no one cares in the orgianzation so he wont be fired.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Maybe McNabb can come in and throw a game tying touchdown?
July 26th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
I would think the Phillies would wait till the end of the season to collapse like the Mets instead of now.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
Phils:And yup this retarted organization will keep him around forever.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
This is almost comical. I’m done caring until the players start.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
How the fuck can you blame Manuel for someone who EVERYONE has acknowledged as our ace giving up 9 in an inning ? This has nothing to do with Manuel, fucking hell get out of Hamels arse and stop blaming Manuel for Hamels being absoloutly shit today.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
prediction for Utley’s AB… fly out to RF
July 26th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
See you next year then TJ.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
It is obvious he has lost this team…..but the phils being as cheap as they are aren’t going to eat the extension he got
July 26th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
Stick a fork in the Phils already?? Really?? Worst case scenario we are 3 games back after today….with ALMOST 60 GAMES LEFT TO PLAY!!!! Did anyone happen to pay attention to what happened at the end of last year?? It is way too early to give up on the season. Sure, these guys need to play a lot better…but is that out of the realm of possibility? There is enough talent on this team to (at least) win the division. Please have a little faith and stop turning on this team already, it’s pathetic.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
I’ll take the single from Chase… but I was hoping for something more. I think he needs to find himself a slumpbuster asap.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
You people are crazier than I am. Get a grip. You can’t win them all.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
By the way, Geoff… here’s a J. Use is wisely.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
fred:What about Brad Lidge last night?Or the team struggling to score runs? It’s more than just Hamels rough outing today.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
I must say, I enjoy how the Phillies have been playing lately. No matter how many times they look like they’re in control, they always try to let the other team look good by playing worse than a little league team. I was at shea the game they blew the lead… man those Met fans are so nice… They clapped when Howard and Utley struck out three times each, in order to make them feel better.
Hey, its no big deal… whats the difference between going 15 years without winning a playoff game and going 16 years without winning a playoff game. Maybe next year the Phillies won’t be so bad!
July 26th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
Thats right Jake and you will be 20 games back with 30 left to go. So you have a few more days.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
Jakes right. But still, we suck atm. Can someone tel me why we didn’t go get Marte and Nady when all we needed to give up was an OF prospect (Golson) and some throw in pitchers ? They’d have been a perfect fit, a LH pitcher and a high average, low strikeout RF. That pisses me off big time.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
Lol the manager always gets blamed. How about this; Gillick gives Manuel shit players to play with !
July 26th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Sad, another season up in smoke. Time to play moneyball, sell sell sell for prospects.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
And if you blame Manuel for Lidge yesterday, then shouldnt we praise him for the work Lidge has done all year before that one inning ?!?!?! Bloody hell.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Relax guys. It’s 9-5.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Becaus ethe yankees have more talent. I hear they are close to trading Rollins for Farnsworth.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
How do you know we could have gotten Marte and Nady? Is it so difficult to believe the Yankees prospects were more attractive?
July 26th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
fred:Whats happend to the Mets since they dumped Randolph?Yes i agree the Phils could use better players but it’s not Gillicks fault that this organization is too cheap to spend money.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:44 pm

July 26th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
If anyone knows about the slumpbuster on this team, it is Burrell. Way to knock em in Pat.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
We aint the fucking mets. What about last year when we were 7 behind, did we panic and fire Manuel then ? How about you don’t just panic and go firing and trading everyone after a slump. Continuity breeds success. And 9-6 now, all is not lost. We haven’t even lost this game yet before you go trading everyone. We could be 1 game behind tonight.

July 26th, 2008 at 5:55 pm

July 26th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
HOLY SHIIITTTE
July 26th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
DOBBS!!!!
July 26th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
That’s why Phillies fans are punks. You give up too easily on your team.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
crazy game
July 26th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
We’re still here, we never gave up you twat. Watch out New York, the phightin phils are comin !
July 26th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
WOOO DOBBS!!! Thank god… this blog was starting to sound like WIP during the afternoon drive home…
July 26th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
I think phillies are close to trading Utley for Igawa.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
I think the mets are going to enter themselves in the next WBC as the South American team…
July 26th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
Relax, Fred. Don’t pull a hammy now. Maybe you should have had an explosive inning like that at Shea.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
I think the Phillies aren’t in an offensive slump anymore.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Maybe you should find something better to do with your life than going on opposing fans blogs ?
July 26th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
The METS was named after the Phillies. MY ENTIRE TEAM SUCKS!
July 26th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
Don’t be testy now because you lost 1st place. Relax. I love baseball as well, but it is JUST a game. We do have issues that are more important than what happens in game.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
David… i seem to remember we did have an explosive inning like that at Shea. Could have used a couple more of them, but I didn’t see the brooms out in Flushing.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
Ha Ha
I gave up on this game after the 4th inning……..my bad
July 26th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
If it’s just a game, why are you spending so much time on the internet attempting to wind up phillies fans ? Don’t you have any freinds who you can go celebrate being in first place with ?
July 26th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
The brooms should of been out but the Mets gave the first game to the Phillies on a plater.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
I admit that the Mets bullpen is pretty inefficient, and thanks to the reemergence of Delgado, we’ve been doing well. What you guys need is your bullpen to come through, because your tiny ballpark makes it susceptible for hitters like the Mets to hit bombs, as our players are used to hitting balls out of a bigger ballpark. Your guys will hit, but will your starters last? Cole gave up a nine-spot today. I wonder if it was more mental than physical.
I am glad that this rivalry is strong, as I drive down to Philly often. Just keep in mind that as we sit here and beat each other up, the Marlins are close by. Likely, the NL Central is a lot stronger than ANY team in our division, so let’s not forget that either.
For the sake of my team, I hope you lose today. For the sake of your team’s psyche, you guys need to win.
Fair?
July 26th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
I told you not to panic but maybe that was because I time traveled to see Dobbs get the big hit.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Fair
July 26th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Lol darren daulton
July 26th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
Why didn’t you guys go after me?
July 26th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
Or me?
July 26th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Wow, the offense woke up. I guess hamels can only pitch well when he doesn’t have run support?
July 26th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
It’s ok guys.. you still have me
July 26th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
You know what…all season we were saying the Red Sox were the best team in baseball. Now they’re tied in 2nd with the Yankees who came back. Are we still going to say the BoSox are the best team in baseball? They’re having bigger problems than we are. If the Phillies offense can produce like they did today all season I think we’ll be in good shape. I’m glad to see them smiling, high fiving, and having general interest in the game.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
Best feeling in the world getting back in my car after hitting up the driving range and seeing a 10-9 game. I wish this game was on TV.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
If we don’t get another run in the bottom of the 8th, Lidge needs to be lights out. I mean 1-2-3 inning. No problems at all. That’s if we get out of the top of the 8th alive.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
Hey guys…just blogging from the clubhouse. I had to take a dump before next inning and thought I’d say hi. I’m calling my shot next inning to right! Mets fans suck!
July 26th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
Yea, lets not mention Lidge til we get out of this inning, McCann scares the shit outta me.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
Wow Boston just threw at arod and hit him in the upper arm. Can you smell retaliation?
July 26th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
Manny is getting one, but the Red Sox FO might like that too much.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
CC,shouldn’t you be out on the field doing warmups? Your game is about to start. Pinch Fielder in the ass and give him a wedgie for us, too.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
What a play by Utley!
July 26th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
What happened Phil? I’m watching on gameday and they havent posted the video yet.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
I am not pitching tonght I am batting cleanup.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Utley made a great diving catch to get McCann out. Lidge is warming up. Anyone nervous about that after last night?
July 26th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Diving stop for the 2nd out last inning. CC, good luck with that. You could bat cleanup for us anytime.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Hey C.C. I speculate that the Giants are going to sign you. You should learn to play 1B and pitch every 5 days. You could bat 4th in that line-up no questions asked. You’d also have the best 1-2-3 punch in baseball over there.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
yeah, Lidge was scary last night. Not quite Adam Eaton scary, but scary.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Escobar deserves the gold glove at SS this year.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
They want me to catch they say I am too fat. I can catch for the Phillies! I am a better hitter.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
Can you catch Mr. Sabathia? I bet you can call a game, you know pitches and such. Can your fat ass squat behind the plate though?
July 26th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
here comes Lights Out. I think last night was an aberration, but he needs to get a save here to get it out of his head. At least that’s what I’m telling myself.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
If I can wear a diaper. Because your rotation scares the sh*t out of me.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
They used to say I was fat too, but I could track down anything in the outfield.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
boy, if there was a perfect person to face 1st, it’s Francoeur.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Is there like a delay on the field or something? Or is Gameday just being real slow.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
it’s slow. 2 outs, and a 2-2 count on Kotsay. None on
July 26th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
Lidge had good command tonight. Great command actually. His past 2 outings he looked horrible. Glad he got it back together!
July 26th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
Adam Eaton gets the win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 26th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
Phils win! Nice comeback – hopefully it’s what ignites this team
July 26th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
“Adam Eaton gets the win” is a phrase you hear about as often as “women Michael Jackson would like to have sex with”
July 26th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, Jamie. We all thought that after the 9th inning come back against the Muts earlier this week.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
so who gets the Ashburn today? my vote goes to Dobbs
July 26th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Oh, and Coste shouldn’t be allowed to catch Hamels anymore.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
call it wishful thinking. i understand exactly what you are saying, I’m just trying to be optimistic.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
Great win, I’m actually pretty shocked they made the comeback. That 9-3 lead seemed insurmountable in my eyes. Showed a lot of heart from the team, but until I actually see it happen, I won’t believe this is the spark that ignites them. I thought the 9th inning rally vs. the Mets would do it, so I’m holding off on any predictions.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
I think Dobbs deserves the Ashburn today as well. Although pitchers seem to have higher ERA’s when Coste catches, at least he can hit the ball out of the infield. You have to give him that much. HERE’S TO THE MUTS SUCKING A BIG FAT ONE TONIGHT!
July 26th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
I didn’t get to watch the game but from gameday, I would give the Ashburn to Coste. Went 3-4, had 3 rbi’s – including a huge single in the first as well as another rbi single to prolong the inning for Dobbs. He gets my vote.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
Cards have the bases juiced with no outs against the Muts rookie in the top of the 1st. Ankiel is at the plate.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
Yea, Jamie I was just about to comment on that. I’d really love to see that game turn into a laugher.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
2-0 St Louis. Bases loaded and no outs. Still the first inning.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
D-u-d-e!!!!! What a finish to this game! Just about everyone came thru today except for Cole. Cole—-you owe Greg Dobbs a dinner at LeBec Fin for xxxxxing the loss on your record.
Good game boys! Jimmie – good effort today. I was raggin’ on you earlier in another post. It is nice to see you turn it around somewhat. I am looking forward to tomorrows game already. I will be wearing my Rollins 11 pin stripe jersey, Phillies hat, shorts and flip flops – the ultimate Phillies Phreak – “Ain’t the beer cold Baby!!”
Go Phillies!!!!!!!
July 26th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
well, two runs in, bases loaded, and still no outs. this Muts rookie looks like a keeper – real Adam Eaton quality thusfar.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
Careful what you say about Eaton. He got the win today.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
oh, my bad, i guess he really isn’t a rookie. he just sucks. 32 years old, has a grand total of 8 2/3 innings pitched for his career and an ERA over 11. He might actually be worse than Eaton after all. Oh, and it’s 3-0 now.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
4-0 now
July 26th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
true, although he only pitched an inning. i may get lucky enough to pitch an inning and have the ball hit directly at people too, though. wow, larussa is hitting the pitcher 8th and izturis 9th. does he do that often? i don’t pay attention to the cards normally.
July 26th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
Well, I spoke too soon. I’m not comfortable with always having to come from big deficits but I guess I’ll take every win we can get
July 26th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
the dark knight aka brandon knight
July 26th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
La Russa has done that for a long time.
July 26th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
I was there tonight. Great comeback. Hamels did not pitch as bad as his line. Other than Tex’s shot, a lot of bouncers that found the gap through the infield. More importantly, the offense came through, and from the “2nd tier” guys: Werth, Coste and of course, The Natural (Dobbs)…what a blast. Having watched most games, it seems Rollins does play hard, but like Utley, getting fooled on first pitch change-ups. They need to adjust.
July 26th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
cant believe they showed a little heard and got the comeback win. hamels was terrible. no excuses, you just dont give up 9 runs in one inning. granted, only 4 of those were earned but come on, strike some people out when your team needs it. and they couldnt field anything today, they definitely needed it.
i was encouraged by some clutch situational hitting though. ryan howard is actually having another good year. tons of RBIs.
they still need an everyday outfielder, a reliever, and another starter.
July 26th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
craziest game i’ve been to aside from when the phillies clinched the national league championship in ‘93. every inning after the phillies took the lead was so tense. that dobbs homerun was a BLAST. great win, now they need to take the series tomorrow.
July 26th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
theyve been really quiet about trades the past few days. that must mean, or it should mean, that gillick is up to something. i can sense another move coming tomorrow or monday. then another one, hopefully, to follow on wednesday or thursday. they have to be big deals too.
July 26th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Geoff, I think you’re right – Gillick has something up his sleeve I”m sure. I just don’t know if it’s good or not. I don’t see him getting another starter – maybe an OF, but more likely than not it will be a reliever.
July 26th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
it has to be a reliever and a bat. they HAVE to get another bat, just to be safe. just someone that can keep a rally going or get a clutch single. i doubt theyll go for another starter, i think youre right there. they should but they need to address those two other needs then come back and address the starter. i still think thye should sell off one established guy, who is NOT an outfielder, to REALLY shake the team up. maybe that return will bring a few young players you can use down the stretch.
July 26th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
using a veteran to trade for young bats may not be the smartest – they are trying to get to the playoffs and world series. i am not really sold that we need a “huge” Matt Holliday kind of bat, though. While he would be nice, he would come at too high of a price. we would be better off trying to get a player like him in the off season to replace Burrell (if we let him go), as they would be cheaper. i think this team can win with its lineup the way it is – they just have to play to their potential. it doesn’t make any sense to trade away J-Roll or Howard, for instance, just to get some young unproven talent. These guys are proven, just having subpar years.
July 26th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Tatis MVP!!!
July 26th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
How can you fans go so crazy over a team that never seems to give up. You complain they don’t have life, yet they Always seem to come back late in games. Obviously, Utley hasn’t been hitting lately, but your crazy to think that’ll last. Hamels had a rough start, kill him over it..
Calm down.
