Go Phillies!

  1. Tyler Says:

The Itchia in the movie Road Trip isn’t the same Itchia as the college. The real Itchia is Itchia University, not just Itchia.

Anyways, fuck the Phillies, lets go Mets!

  2. Phil Says:

Ithica you fucking moron. Learn how to spell. Do you have nothing better to with your life besides troll?

  3. Joshua Says:

hahahhaa..how do u misspell a word thats only a few lines above you?

  4. nate Says:

Having gone to IC… the guy who wrote the movie was a grad named Scott Armstrong. Set the movie at fictional Ithaca University, which was shot at Georgia Tech.

  5. Jamie Says:

No shit, Phil. The idiot comes on here to troll (fucking Muts fans) and tries to be funny. However, showing the true intelligence of Muts fans (again, fuck the Muts and their fans), he can’t spell. Hey Tyler, how’s the bullpen project coming there in the Big Apple?

  6. Mike T. Says:

Tyler, you’re wrong on a couple levels. First, it’s Ithaca, not Itchia – I’m not sure what you’re thinking of, but it’s Ithaca. Second, the real name of the school is Ithaca College. Of course they didn’t call it Ithaca College – probably because they didn’t have the rights to call it that. So, instead they called it the University of Ithaca.

Also, the Ithaca scenes were filmed at Georgia Tech.

Lastly, Kyle Lohse is going to shut the Mets down today. Why are you even on here? The Mets aren’t even playing the Phillies.

  7. Mike T. Says:

    That’s right, Nate.

  8. nate Says:

How about this bit of speculation and rumor mongering by SI.com.

“Sources said the Mets’ No. 1 nemesis, the Phillies, have the best chance to trade for Manny Ramirez because Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel has perhaps the strongest relationship with him of anyone in the majors. Manuel was Ramirez’s hitting coach with the Indians from 1994-99 and his manager in Cleveland in 2000, and the two have remained close.”

While probably reporting this without any sort of merit (are there really any facts here besides what some unnamed “source” says), trying to make news instead of report it, is this a yea or a nay? Where does he play? Where does the money come from? Who does Philly give up? Would his ego/attitude be a bad thing in the clubhouse? Or would his bat offset all of that?

  9. Jamie Says:

Nate, I wouldn’t want Manny on my team. Too pompous, too much money, and we’d have to give up too much. He can keep his antics and his “play when he wants” in Boston.

  10. Phil Says:

He might actually calm down if he’s here. He calls Charlie Manuel dad. I bet he could make him modest again.

  11. Jamie Says:

Maybe, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. His offense and potential is great, but he’s getting old (by sports standards), he’s going to cost a ton of money, and he has a poor attitude/ego that would be disruptive in the clubhouse, I think. I’d rather keep Pat. He’s cheaper, less disruptive, and a much better attitude, although his numbers aren’t quite what Manny produces.

  12. griffin Says:

    Ithaca is gorges.

  13. danny Says:

I’ll take one of the premier clutch hitters of our time for most anyone except Cole or Utley.

  14. griffin Says:

    blanton blows

  15. griffin Says:

way to kill any momentum blanton. Impressive home debut.

  16. danny Says:

Pat Gillick, GM of the Decade

  17. Vernon Dozier Says:

I hope Eaton is ready for some long relief duty today…

  18. Tyler Says:

    2-0!

  19. Georgie Says:

Let’s face it, Phillies ownership was too cheap to go after a real pitcher like Sabathia, and without pitching there’s no way to advance in the playoffs, let alone the World series.

  20. danny Says:

Yeah, I agree. This team is average.. We’ll be lucky to make the playoffs and lucky to win a game.

We have one hitter over .290?

  21. Jamie Says:

yeah, count me in as one who is not impressed with Blanton so far. And we gave up a blue-chip prospect in Cardenas to get him? That’s why I’m not a big fan in giving up prospects to get “rent-a-players” – they cost too much for oftentimes mediocre players.

  22. Geoff Says:

Note to blanton: its ok to be a strike thrower, but that doesnt mean you can throw grooved meatballs. he allows way too many baserunners.

  23. Jamie Says:

hey, nice to see Rollins could grace everyone with his presence today.

  24. griffin Says:

cardenas is nothing to write home about, he won’t be missed.
But Blanton does stink. I think we need some rain today.

  25. Jamie Says:

we may need a lot of it here shortly…

  26. Geoff Says:

    terrible decision by steve smith.

  27. Vernon Dozier Says:

Unfortunately, Blanton is not a rent-a-player. He’ll be here next season…that’s one of the reasons why Gillick targeted him. I’d much rather see Carrasco & Happ than these clowns Gillick keeps bringing in.

  28. griffin Says:

another runner thrown out at the plate!! Nice job smith!

  29. griffin Says:

Smith is tied for the major league lead in runners thrown out at the plate. That last one was inexcusable, trying to score Utley from first on a single to CF!!!

  30. griffin Says:

muts up 2-0 and we’re 2 games back. Why did I even bother today?

  31. Jamie Says:

I realize Blanton is not a rent-a-player, but I was making a generalized statement for deadline moves. Manny could opt out of his contract which would make him a rent-a-player, Lohse was a rent-a-player, and the list goes on. Why sell prospects to get the Blantons of the world when we could call Happ up and see what he looks like long term?

  32. Geoff Says:

steve smith is a horrible third base coach. i can recall a dozen bad decisions already this season that cost them games.

  33. Georgie Says:

I wonder if the lack of hitting is a result of the players realizing that they don’t have the pitching they need to advance, Gillick isn’t going to get them what they need for one reason or another, so what’s the point in busting ass.

  34. Geoff Says:

campillo is garbage too. totally overrated, typical national league slop.

  35. J-Man Says:

The reason we couldn’t gey CC Sabathia is because we don’t have the prospects to trade for a guy like that,Gillick did try…BTW Steve Smith is the worst 3rd base coach, trying to score a guy from 1st base on a single to center.

  36. Geoff Says:

total momentum killer. just leave him on third and you have runners at the corners. smith always tries it with the slower guys too. he always tries to get feliz to score when he has no chance.

  37. Jamie Says:

after doing some research, i stand corrected. manny’s next two years (2009 & 2010) are club options at $20MM each. No way the Phils pay that. Do you guys think?

  38. Geoff Says:

obviously, since they just got blanton and hes under control next year, hes not going anywhere and were stuck with him. but get someone in there whos a stud. weve been saying it for years now. if they cant or wont do that then dont even think they have a chance to do anything in the postseason if they can even make the postseason at all.

  39. Geoff Says:

the phillies are not going to get manny ramirez. they have no organizational depth at almost every position on the field. they kind of might need to sell off a few of their players for more and more and more young top talent. you need a deep team to be a legit contender, they had depth last year but they have none at all this year.

  40. J-Man Says:

CC Sabathia,Ben Sheets, and Rich Harden are free agents after this season…It sucks our cheap ownership won’t bring in one of those guys.

  41. Chris L Says:

They won’t pay that if Howard’s on the payroll……but hey, that’s not a bad trade from my point of view.

  42. Geoff Says:

rich harden is under team control for one more year (team option next year)

they have to go after ben sheets. they have to. thats their guy, thats the target. between him and sabathia hes gettable. if they dont then fuck them. they HAVE to.

if you believe that they cant afford it or they HAVE to adhere to this little budget of theirs, then you are mentally retarded.

its called lying, those people do it all the time.

  43. Phil Says:

Harden isn’t a free agent. Dempster is though.

  44. J-Man Says:

My fault i though Harden was a free agent, but yes this team does need to get Sheets.

  45. Jamie Says:

How nice would it be with Sheets and Hamels at the top of the rotation. Now that’s a real #1 and #2.

  46. Phil Says:

I had an awesome idea the other day. During the off season sell off the team. Keep the bullpen, Utley, and Hamels. Maybe a few other guys. Sign Sheets and Sabathia long term. Trade for Halladay. Maybe keep Howard and pay him till he can leave. Bring up Donald and Marson. One of the things you trade for are MLB ready outfield prospects and an MLB ready 3B prospect. Just imagine that rotation.

    Halladay
    Sabathia
    Sheets
    Hamels
    Moyer/Kendrick/Happ/Blanton/Carrasco

  47. Geoff Says:

too drastic but i think they need to bring in a new GM from the outside who doesnt care about gillick or amaros legacy and seroiusly, objectively evaluate this organization from top to bottom.

  48. Geoff Says:

if they dont make the playoffs you have to blow it up a bit

  49. Jamie Says:

Phil, that’s quite a dream. In order to get those players, we would have to give up a king’s ransom, and we dont’ have one to give up. It would be nice, though.

  50. J-Man Says:

Yea Gillick already said he’s retiring after this season and Amaro is going to be GM,but they need to bring in somebody who isn’t already in the organization.

  51. Geoff Says:

in all honesty, the only real change will come when theres an ownership change or shift in philosophy

  52. Phil Says:

    Mets are up 5-0…that’s nice.

  53. David Says:

The Mets are up 7-0. The Phils are down 2-0. We’ll see what happens. :-)

  54. Phil Says:

Our kings ransoms are our position players.

  55. Jamie Says:

Another Muts fan coming out of the woodwork since they are winning? Wow, there’s a shocker.

  56. David Says:

Another sour Phillies fan liek Jamie? What a SHOCKER.

  57. Jamie Says:

Okay, Phil. So we’ll trade Utley and J-Roll and Vic? Then who are we going to have fill their spots? Taguchi? TJ Bohn? Donald may be ready in another year at short, but who do you think they would have left? You mention getting major league ready outfielders and 3B’s like they grow on trees and teams are trying to jettison them at all times. Of course, that’s not realistic and major league ready anything come at high prices.

  58. Jamie Says:

David, if you insist on coming on a Phillies board to start shit, learn how to spell first. And I’m not sour about anything – Phil and I are having an in-depth discussion about “fantasies.” You should know something about that – you guys had to “fantasize” about what “could have been” last year after you sucked a big fat one and imploded.

  59. Geoff Says:

then if youre not prepared to take those steps they are going to be bad for like 5 years AGAIN. until they reload their whole team. it has to be incremental or the fans will revolt. utley can stay, j roll has to go. one of burrell/howard stays, one goes.

some of these steps couldve been avoided if you have an awesome farm system, but in order to do that you need two things: 1. awesome scouts and developmental coaches, 2. you HAVE to spend TONS of money. you cant have a good farm system without spending a lot of money. thats where the phillies are REALLY cheap/incompetent. mike arbuckle is completely retarded and has no idea what he is doing. they need a real farm director who will spend money on prospect signing bonuses, not another lapdog.

thats the phillies problem, they pick government-style lapdog administrators to run key posts within the organization instead of out of the box forward thinking baseball people who spot trends. amaro? idiot, lapdog. gillick? soft, lazy, lapdog. arbuckle? retard, lapdog.

  60. Jamie Says:

    Geoff, you need a hug.

  61. Tony Says:

Wait…wait….all the Phillies fans on this blog told me that the Mets would be out of first by the time the weekends over? what happened?

  62. KB Says:

Mike T: “Lastly, Kyle Lohse is going to shut the Mets down today.”

    mmm hmmm

  63. David Says:

A typo of the word, “like.” Calm down. You need to jump on a little mistake of mine? It seems like you’re being a bit passive-aggressive because your team is down by 2 runs.

I’ve written civilly on this blog-site beforehand, so I’m not going to argue with an angry Phillies fan like you. Let’s BOTH hope that the Marlins lose. Let’s be civil. Quibbling over statistics is pointless. For what? Bragging rights? Please. I hope you let your guard down, because I’ve let mine down.

Answer me one question… Is Feliz hurt? I heard something about that, but I don’t know if it is accurate.

Likely, what is going on with Happ?

  64. Amanda Says:

they said feliz has a lower back stiffness, they said he should play on tuesday

  65. Jamie Says:

Okay David, truce. At least we can both agree that the Marlins need to lose – I’ll give you that. Yes, Feliz tweaked his back or something a couple of weeks ago and has been hurt. I think he’s been out three days in a row now. Happ is still in AAA throwing gems since he was sent back down, so your guess is as good as mine. I don’t know why they don’t have him up to at least take a longer look at him – maybe they’re about to do something to free up a spot in the rotation and just wanted him to be in AAA to continue his every 5th day to stay sharp. Who knows. Oh, and I’m not concerned with being down 2 runs today – it’s going to be rained out anyways I’m sure.

  66. David Says:

    Thank you, Amanda.

  67. David Says:

    Thanks, Jamie.

  68. Geoff Says:

theyd better free up a spot in the rotation. if theyre not going to go get some top flight guy then at least pull myers and put happ in there.

  69. Jamie Says:

Well, if Myers begins pitching alright, he’s better than Blanton I would assume (from what I’ve seen of Blanton). Maybe move Blanton to the Pen and let Happ start. That’s always a possibility. Aside from the rough inning by Myers against NY, he actually pitched “okay.” It wasn’t great, but it was “okay.” Hopefully he can improve next time around – I’m sure he had some jitters a bit.

  70. Craig Says:

Any sign of this game restarting?

  71. Geoff Says:

Theyll restart it after the documentary is over. the ashburn documentary is a quality one though. if they had someone half as good as richie ashburn on this team right now theyd be 10 games up.

blanton is not going to be moved ot the bullpen, they just got the guy and you know how stubborn they are. it took them until july to pull myers and it took them a year and a half to pull adam eaton. were just going ot have to deal with blanton.

  72. David Says:

    Let me ask you this…

Whomever ends up in 2nd place in the NL East is probably not going to win the Wild Card, as the 2nd place NL Central has/will have more wins than the 1st place NL East team.

    Who agrees?

  73. Geoff Says:

agreed. the central is the power divisio this year, but the east might be the closest.

  74. David Says:

    Tied game in Chicago… 5-5. :-)

  75. CZ Says:

At least the Soul is winning….

  76. CZ Says:

or would it be the Soul ‘are’ winning….

    either way

  77. Geoff Says:

adam eaton will try and eat some innings today because theyre putting him in…..

  78. Geoff Says:

jo jo reyes is complete junk too. they should rip off of him. they cant hit even average starters though at this point untill they turn it around

  79. Geoff Says:

wow. reyes is really bad. he walked adam eaton, haha….

  80. Geoff Says:

jimmy, you suck. get off of my team.

  81. David Says:

What were they chanting in Philly? I couldn’t make it out.

  82. Mike W. Says:

    Utley is still lost

  83. Jason Says:

    Thanks Eaton.

  84. Jason Says:

Baseball giveaway day, courtesy of Adam Eaton.

  85. David Says:

Will somebody please tell me what the “phans” were chanting an inning ago when Chase was up at bat?

    I heard some just yell, “You-Suck Ea-ton.”

  86. Paul Says:

    Please cut Eaton tomorrow.

  87. J-Man Says:

Adam Eaton is still the same guy.

  88. J-Man Says:

Get him the fuck outta there now i mean wheres Chad Durbin?

  89. David Says:

I feel for the guy. He’s your Armando Benitez.

  90. Georgie Says:

Jeez, if I didn’t know better, I’d say J-Rol is rollin’ j’s pregame.

  91. J-Man Says:

But this team just can’t gain any momentum after a big win i mean J-Roll strikes out with the bases loaded.

  92. Geoff Says:

when they cant gain momentum after two huge comeback wins and a team meeting then theyre f’d

  93. Georgie Says:

I’m tellin’ ya, half the team , especially Jimmy and Chase, look stoned or something, WTF??

  94. Mike Says:

How about those Mets… now theres a team who knows how to bounce back

  95. PhillyGirlinMichigan Says:

Durbin is our 7th/8th inning guy now. Looks like we’ve got Condrey and Seanez for early innings.

Romero has gone 3 days straight and Durbin/Lidge have gone 2. I don’t know about Madson.

Not a good day for a long rain delay….or for another Eaton blow-up…

  96. Al C Says:

Does any have any info about J.A. Happ being pulled early during the LV game today? It’s all over the philliesphans.com

    http://www.philliesphans.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=40669

  97. Geoff Says:

that means hes getting traded or called up

  98. Geoff Says:

or it means myers is getting traded

  99. David Says:

The Marlins are losing 9-3 at the Bottom of the 7th.

What’s up with Chris Coste owning the Braves? The Braves announcers called his home-run in advance.

The Phillies are so adept at coming back. I think the small ballpark helps your team. I must admit, even if your team is being clobbered, they somehow find a way to come back by at least 2-3 runs. It’s amazing!

    Tied game. Wtf?

  100. David Says:

    Marlins are losing 9-6*

  101. J-Man Says:

The Flying Hawaian just tied it up!

  102. Al C Says:

    5-5 Baby!

  103. Mick Says:

I hate to say it, but if we didn’t play in the band-box of a park that we play in, our record would probably be worse.

Looks like the Marlins are gonna lose. Good stuff.

  104. Al C Says:

I’m scouring the blogs and boards, but can’t find anything else about J.A. Happ being pulled early today.

I’m very excited (and possibly frightened) if he was traded…

Please post if anyone finds any additional info, even if it’s just about him being called up (which would be good as well).

  105. David Says:

    Well said, Mick. Well said.

  106. J-Man Says:

With Happ being pulled early, maybe their getting ready to make a trade…Hopefully it involves Myers and Happs coming back up to replace him.

  107. Jamie Says:

Happ definitely got pulled for some reason, but I can’t find any trades announced yet.

  108. J-Man Says:

Gillicks prolly getting ready to trade for a lefty relief pitcher.

  109. Phil Says:

I have a feeling Manny is coming here and Happ is going to Boston. I think it will be a cheap pick up. They want him out of Boston and no teams want to take on his antics. The Phillies could take on his antics because Charlie Manuel will calm him down.

  110. Geoff Says:

hes not hurt. someone got traded. him or myers i bet.

  111. Geoff Says:

happ is a steep price for a lefty reliever, this better be a creative out of the box trade.

dude, manny is no different than CC, hes going to cost a LOT. you dont give away many ramirez for cheap

  112. J-Man Says:

Not a chance in hell this team traded for Manny…I honestly think Manny would be a good trade because him and Uncle Charlie were together in Cleveland, but he has20 Mil options the next 2 seasons and Boston wants Lou Marson who the Phils don’t wanna trade.

  113. Scram Says:

    PAT THE BAT!

  114. Phil Says:

    PAT THE FUCKING BAT!

  115. J-Man Says:

    Pat the Bat strikes again!

  116. David Says:

So, the Braves are going to be how many games out by the end of the season? Atlanta fell apart. Atlanta is TERRIBLE. I cannot believe this.

  117. NJ Says:

Atlanta aren’t terrible but their paying for staking their season on old arms.

  118. David Says:

I had forgotten that Atlanta had signed the ex-Red Sox mess back in early July.

  119. Phil Says:

I don’t know Geoff. The Red Sox are saying some pretty horrible things about him. They might take the 1st appealing package to get him the fuck out of Boston. He’s a media nightmare up there. The fans hate him up there. We’ll see what happens.

  120. J-Man Says:

The Braves won 14 straight divison titles…Their bound to have to go into rebuilding mode soon or later and they are now…Glavine and Smoltz aren’t the pitchers they were in the 90’s anymore and Chippers injury prone these days…Teixiera is good and their gonna have to do everything they can to re-sign him because he is their best player when Chippers no healthy.

  121. Geoff Says:

well when manny leaves theyd at least get two first round draft picks if they did get him. if they let someone whos not mentally retarded make the picks, like, not mike arbuckle, then itll be good i suppose.

they need another elite hitter, i assume hell play RF. i still seriously doubt theyd get him though. you never know, maybe gillick wants to cement some positive legacy.

  122. Phil Says:

    J-Man, don’t forget McCann.

  123. Phil Says:

I’m telling you, they really want him out of there. They said they don’t need a HOF calibur player to replace him because he’s not a HOF calibur player. To me that’s a little insane. Manny is obviously going to the hall. Manny would be sick in our line up. You could do Rollins-Utley-Burrell-Howard-Manny. That would be a ridiculous line up.

  124. NJ Says:

Where would Manny fit in the field and what does that mean for Burrell. It’s not going to happen.

  125. Scram Says:

Amazing what happens when the bottom of the order gets on isn’t it?

  126. J-Man Says:

Yea i think Mannys days in Boston are numbered…I think Boston will trade Matt Holliday during the off season.

  127. David Says:

Plainly said: Manny is too expensive.

  128. J-Man Says:

If Manny came here he would prolly take over RF.

  129. Phil Says:

Manny doesn’t have the arm to play RF. Burrell would have to move to RF.

  130. CZ Says:

    Thats what I’m talkin about!

  131. Phil Says:

Victorino is the man. I hope McCann is okay though.

  132. Scram Says:

Good lord…nobody delivers a hit at the plate like Victorino… hope McCann is OK.

  133. nate Says:

how did the tiny victorino run over giant mccann?

  134. Scram Says:

Nate: stand still and have someone smaller than you run full speed into your side and see if that answers your question.

  135. J-Man Says:

    Man i hope McCanns ok.

  136. nate Says:

point taken. nice to hear the crowd ovation on the radio. much more sportsmanlike than the michael irvin incident, though irvin did have it coming.

  137. David Says:

That’s what is terrible about sports: injuries. Injuries to ANY player in ANY team. I rather lose to a rival with all their players healthy than win against a team with injured players.

  138. nate Says:

also, from the radio description, it’s nice to see/hear victorino going back to check on mccann… i only hope he’s not out for too long or i’ll have to find another fantasy catcher

  139. Geoff Says:

bad throw by franceour got mccanns clock cleaned. hell be ok. good inning

  140. danny Says:

Why can’t we play this way vs the Mets? God I wish that hit was delivered on Schneider or Castro.

What a play by Victorino… just WOW.

Furthermore, is our third base coach on LSD? Is he just sending everyone, all the time?!

  141. danny Says:

Seriously, I think Franceour had the ball before Vic got to third.

  142. danny Says:

I’m watching it at my school’s library without audio. The crowd was giving props to McCann?

  143. danny Says:

    Werth is filthy

  144. nate Says:

yeah, when he sat up it sounded like…

  145. John N. Says:

I think that was uncalled for by Vic. They are up by three already so he had to go flying in the air to smash the catcher in the head. But that was a good play? And that was real nice to see Vic standing over him while he is hurt. There are good plays and bad plays and that was uncalled for! Take a look at the replay real good were the f*ck was he flying into his head for?

  146. CZ Says:

Yes they were because Philly fans respect a tough player and that what McCann showed there. I wish that kind of stuff would get talked about rather than the stupid Irvin and Santa crap

  147. The Boys are back in town Says:

The play by Vic is going to turn the season around.

  148. The Boys are back in town Says:

The play by Vic was uncalled for? What has our team been lacking recently? That competitive fire. Looks to me like Vic just rekindled it. I wish half the guys played with the passion he has.

  149. John N. Says:

Yes, I guess if a Braves pitcher throws and hits Utley in the head then you have to say the Braves showed a lot of heart there.

  150. The Boys are back in town Says:

Wow, how could you even compare those two plays? Apples and oranges my friend.

  151. John N. Says:

And if someone dives like that into 2nd base to break up the double play and puts Utley out for the rest of the season then you can’t be mad at that! You have to understand that by doing that the other team is just showing passion by taking you guy out for the season.

  152. danny Says:

What??? That play was completely called for! Come on man. The rules are you can bash into the catcher coming home. Those are the rules, welcome to major league baseball.

    That’s the play there.

  153. Georgie Says:

Sorry McCann got hurt, but he had himself planted right in front of the plate-Vic could have gone in feet first and nailed him with his spikes. This isn’t peewee ball, shit happens.

  154. danny Says:

John N, do you not understand the difference between a legal play that follows the rules and a play that doesn’t?

For example. Throwing at a batter’s head it against the rules. Taking out the catcher isn’t.

  155. danny Says:

If I were a Braves fan, and McCann got knocked out for the season, I would be plenty pissed at Victorino. I might hate him forever. It doesn’t mean that it was uncalled for though.

  156. Scram Says:

If you want to see an uncalled for collision at home, ask Pete Rose.

  157. David Says:

I hope that the next Braves pitcher beans Victorino in the back. He went in with his head, at McCann’s head! Regardless of whether it was on purpose or not, go for his hands.

  158. John N. Says:

So, if someone is out by 4 feet at second but decides to take Utleys leg by jumping up in the air to land into the legs of Utley after the play was already over and say Utleys gets hurts bad. Its legal so its not uncalled for right?

  159. Geoff Says:

any new info on happ? i hard he was being congratulated. dunno what that entails

  160. The Boys are back in town Says:

    sniffle sniffle….thats my catcher

  161. John N. Says:

Anybody see the play Shelley Duncan of the Yankees made on the Tampa Bay 2nd baseman? It was all over ESPN. I guess that was called for?

  162. Jason Says:

Well, they didn’t throw at Vic. Braves must be alright with what happened.

  163. John N. Says:

No, they just know what an asshole he is so its not worth it!

  164. Jason Says:

What a well thought out response.

  165. CZ Says:

No one ever whats to hurt another player and obviously Vic didn’t mean to knock the guy out but there is hard play and there is dirty play. This was in no way a dirty play. I can certainly understand that Braves fans would be upset if he’s out for a significant time but that’s their prerogative. The Braves announcers have not even come anywhere close to questioning the play. If that matters…

  166. Scram Says:

For what it’s worth, I’ve seen Victorino lower his shoulder and drop the hammer on a catcher dozens of times in the past. That’s how he plays. Utley is the same way. Not once have I seen Howard do the same, but that’s probably because he doesn’t want to literally kill the opposing catcher…

  167. CZ Says:

They just showed the replay again its very clear that Vic took an effort to duck his head away from McCann but right after he did McCann moved his head right into his path. The announcers again stated that it was a clean play.

  168. John N. Says:

Im an idiot and my opinion should not be taking seriously. Hence why im bitter and posting on a bulletin board horrible scenarios since no one will here me out in real life.

  169. John N. Says:

So, when it happens to a Phillies player and they get hurt for the season and its one of your best players then you can NEVER say that the play was uncalled for because its legal.

  170. Jason Says:

I think John N. has a point with Vic

  171. CZ Says:

    I agree!

  172. BeatWritersSuck Says:

Bush League……. Victormunchkin is bush League and someone needs to plunk that midget in the neck

  173. CZ Says:

Wow, how creative that someone is posting using others’ names…talk about bush league

  174. The Boys are back in town Says:

Is it just me or has anyone else lost total faith in Chief Rudy?

  175. Chase Mutley Says:

John N. is this the first time you’ve watched a major league baseball game? How can you possibly compare a runner spiking an infielder to a running bowling over a catcher? McCann shouldn’t have blocked the plate if he didn’t want to get hit. I’m glad he’s ok but that was a total heads up baseball play.

  176. CZ Says:

    this is disgusting…

  177. BeatWritersSuck Says:

NO…I’m using my own name…..And I hope the Braves Rally

  178. CZ Says:

How would that be if the Braves came back to win the game for McCann and the Phillies fall 2 back behind the best team in the NL East!

  179. J-Man Says:

Rudy Seanez is old and sucks like Tom Gordon…Man we need to get another relief pitcher before the deadline.

  180. Jason Says:

    A hit for Chase, wow.

  181. J-Man Says:

    And he’s throw out stealing.

  182. Jason Says:

Thank god Chase didn’t spike anyone.

  183. Joshua Says:

A runner IS allowed to take out the catcher…thats part of baseball. The other team might not like it, but it’s part of the game. The catcher knows that risk when hes standing in front of the plate.

the same thing is true for a take out slide at 2nd.

and John N., you moron, the Shelly Duncan slide is COMPLETELY different. He was intentionally spiking the person covering second. That is dangerous, you can hit an artery in the leg and kill someone. that is NOT legal my friend.

  184. CZ Says:

So I guess the new, spineless, pathetic strategy of Mets fans is to impersonate Phillies blog posters. I know we are all on computers here but at least have the balls to post your name…or maybe you can’t spell it…

  185. CZ Says:

Joshua, you are the moron because that play Duncan made was not illegal it looked intentional. But was legal. And talk about getting hurt? I guess having your neck broken can’t kill someone? You moron! When you jump sideways into the catchers head its legal I agree but its still a dirty play! You can tackle him but don’t dive into the head sideways on a catcher when your up by 3 runs and you are taking a chance of getting hurt or hurting someone else!

  186. Jimmy S. Says:

Whats happen with Victorino and what is all this talking about legal slides. Was there a fight I missed it?

  187. CZ Says:

We are unfortunately going to need to start requiring people to regester to post here. Its sad but true. Joshua, I’m sorry someone felt the need to insult you using my name.

  188. Jason Says:

Good job Lidge. Finally two wins in a row. Keep the momentum going. We got some series that we can win this week.

    GO PHILS!!!

  189. CZ Says:

And if you believe that you are a moron.

  190. Joshua Says:

So its legal to INTENTIONALLY hurt someone? theres a difference. with a take out slide into a 2nd, your goal is not to hurt someone, your goal is preventing a double play…theres a difference you faggot. you can get ejected for intentionally trying to hurt someone, therefor not legal.

What victorino did, was NOT intentional..and its even backed up by him going back to check on mccanns health. if it was intentional on his part, he woulda kept walking to the dugout. that was a class act by victorino and this is coming from a mets fan.

  191. Chase Mutley Says:

Not to mention the Shelly Duncan play was in SPRING TRAINING which is what the whole beef was about.

  192. Jason Says:

If the Braves would’ve taken offense to that they would’ve thrown at Vic his next time up.

  193. Joshua Says:

btw, whos the one that said that the phillies would be back in first by monday morning?? I think not.

  194. Phil Says:

I can’t believe someone is actually trying to say a player shouldn’t plow a catcher. Especially a tiny ass dude like Victorino.

  195. christopher Says:

great win, great game for victorino, and great play at the plate. i hope mccann is okay, that was a classy ovation from the fans when he walked off.

  196. AC Says:

Yeah, it was real classy of the phils fans back in April when they BOOED Reyes for NOT being hurt.

  197. Phil Says:

AC, we booed Reyes because he faked an injury to stall a game. I was there.

  198. Call up Happ Says:

Josh, that would be me. As things stand, I’m perfectly happy with being a game out of first. We get the Nationals next, the Mets get the Marlins. The Phils will be back in first by week’s end, at the latest.

I think it was the minority of Phillie fans that cheered Jose Reyes’ injury. Every team has a few sick and twisted fans. I doubt you’ll find anyone on this site who condones cheering anybody, whether it’s Reyes, McCann, or JD Drew himself, if they get hurt.

However, I’m in the minority when it comes to believing that Jose Reyes is not over-rated. This guy is only 25 and is a lock at the beginning of each season to hit .300, steal 50+ bases, score 100+ runs, and play every single day. Maybe it’s just me, but if Reyes were a Phillie I think a lot of people would have different opinions of his value.

Also, I hope this bone-headed “trade Victorino” garbage stops now. This guy is the centerpiece to our outfield for years to come, and showed his grit and tenacity in the play at the plate today. In fact, with the news of JA Happ’s impending departure, I think my new screen name will be “Keep Victorino.”

  199. Phil Says:

I’m torn on Victorino. I think overall Werth has the ability to be a GREAT and I emphasize great player if he could play everyday. Werth is a true 5 tool player. He has a cannon arm, has power, has speed, can play D, and can hit for average. We know what we’re gonna get from Victorino. He’s going to be a .280 10 home run 40 stolen base with gold glove defense. Werth can be .300 30 homers 40 stolen bases with gold glove defense. I just think the guy needs to get the opportunity to play everyday. The reason I’m torn on Victorino is because he’s been the only guy in the past few weeks to show he wants to play the game. He plays it hard. He’s under the radar. He’s been having more patience at the plate. I like him a lot. I think Werth should play everyday in right field and stop platooning him with Jenkins. If he gets to face more righties he’ll hit more righties.

  200. bonez Says:

david wright isn’t even a .300/30HR/40SB player. u think werth is better than wright, phil?

  201. Phil Says:

Bonez, Werth has much more speed than D-Wright, so yes I think he could steal more bags than Wright. D-Wright is much better than a .300 hitter. Jayson Wright could be exactly a .290-.300 hitter. Wright is having a bad year for him, and he is still going to hit close to .300. From what I heard during batting practice Jayson Wright hits balls further than anyone, even Howard. Do I think he’s better than David Wright? No. Do I think he has potential to be one of the best players on the Phillies? Yes.

  202. Brian Michael Says:

Did anyone else see Santana dogging it on a long single hit down the line in today’s Mets game? They let him stay in the game…that’s the difference between the Mets and the Phillies.

  203. bonez Says:

Phil, I think by saying Werth has the potential to be a .300/30HR/40SB player, you’re making him out to be the most well-rounded player in all of baseball. Arod doesn’t even put up those kind of stats. I just think for a 29 year old if Werth had that kind of potential 1) he would have reached it by now, 2) he would not be playing for his 4th different organization by now. I can very much see werth as a .280/20HR/20SB player if given everyday playing time, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I do think, though, you should calm down on giving Werth Hall of Fame stats until he can prove himself as an everyday player.

  204. Joshua Says:

Brian..he wasnt dogging it. He thought it was a foul ball. Hes a pitcher too. an american league pitcher most of his life. its not like he he bats and runs bases everyday. and to his credit, it was close to the foul pole..he still should of ran, but to his excuse, hes a pitcher. Now if that was reyes, you know he’d be pulled from the game.

  205. barefoot singer Says:

Any of you feeling better about our OFFENCE? We came back today when I thought it was another loss…..Blanton seems to give up a shitload of runs….I cant see him as the answer to anything,he’s not even an innings eater as advertised, nice going Giles…….

  206. #1 soul fan Says:

wheewwww!! who cares about the phillies. we’re getting the victory parade ready for broad street on tuesday!!!! the curse is finally over. the soul are the champs in our hearts. the streets are filled with celebrating fans.

  207. Overlord Says:

Since when did Philly have an arena team? If that team gets a parade that will upset my commute to work next week I’ll be highly upset.

  208. erik Says:

i also was at the game in april, in fact it was friday night game on april 18th and it was hamels vs. santana. reyes rolled around like he was seriously hurt, really really really was acting like he was totally fucked up, then instaneously he is absolutely fine. i booed him, becasue he was playing like a bitch. bottom line.

  209. nutty professor Says:

yeah, erik, because you knew EXACTLY how much pain Jose Reyes was really in.
