Gameday: Cardinals (51-41) At Phillies (49-43)

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Thu, July 10, 2008 12:00 PM

One more time, VOTE BURRELL.

The Phillies snapped a four-game losing streak, beating the Cardinals 4-2 Wednesday night. JA Happ pitched 6+ innings and was pretty effective in handling the Cardinals. The Phils took an early lead, and while they blew it, the offense responded with solo shots by Ryan Howard and Pedro Feliz in the eighth. Brad Lidge collected his 20th save.

Today it’s the final game of the triple set, and the Phils will gun for their 50th win of the season, with Jamie Moyer going against the Cards. Moyer has been generally effective this season. He’ll face Braden Looper, who has had a pretty similar season, having a few bad starts but a bunch of quality, non-dominant affairs. This should be a close one.

Alyssa Milano is at the ballpark today, promoting her clothing campaign with Major League Baseball. If that matters.

Phillies: Jamie Moyer (7-6) 4.12 ERA
Cardinals: Braden Looper (9-6) 4.15 ERA

Gametime: 1:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 85, partly cloudy
Lineup: Rollins/Victorino/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Jenkins/Feliz/Coste/Moyer

Your gameday beer: I’ll be at the game today, having a nice brew while enjoying the summer sun and a Jamie Moyer outing. I won’t have it, but I’ll recommend Yards Saison. An easy beer, it’s a farmhouse-style brew. I might have some pulled pork today, so eat that with it.

Go Phillies!

  1. Don M Says:

Since the Phillies “are better against pitchers they’ve seen before” …they should tear the cover off the ball today, right??

    11-3 Phillies win…

  2. Bruce Says:

Someone (Nate) has posted that the Phillies called up Mike Cervanak , a position player from AAA and Happ goes back since there is no need for a 5th starter prior to ASB. Any truth to that?

  3. Amanda Says:

yea it was on the phillies web site

  4. Don M Says:

I still can’t find it anywhere on there..

  5. oaklandphilphan Says:

    let’s win the series phils!!!

  6. Mike T. Says:

    Donny M – http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=mlb/news/newstest.aspx?id=4163881

Don’t think it’s on the site – but it is official.

  7. NEPA Says:

    Niceeee. Web gem baby.

  8. NEPA Says:

Wow, can we say CBP homerun special.

  9. Paul Says:

Looks like that was a great AB by Howard.

  10. danny Says:

    What an at bat- WOW!

  11. Gary B Says:

    It still counts!

  12. Phil Says:

Ryan Howard comes through again. I’m thinking he’s going to have a 50 home run 150 RBI season. He’s on a ridiculous tear and the way he’s been in the past, he does this the whole 2nd half of the season.

  13. Mike T. Says:

Yes, great AB by Howard – Lopper has thrown 30 already… I can’t wait to get to the Cardinals ‘pen.

  14. danny Says:

That was killer, damn, ya’ll thank Ryan is back?

  15. Phil Says:

Tim Redding is on our list of B list pitchers this year. I say get him just so we don’t have to face him anymore!

  16. danny Says:

Why was that a CBP special?

  17. danny Says:

    Ryan, just carrying this team..

  18. Don M Says:

PHILADELPHIA — J.A. Happ is headed back to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The Phillies announced on Thursday morning that they had optioned the 25-year-old lefty to the IronPigs and recalled infielder Mike Cervenak.

Happ started two games for the Phillies in place of their struggling Opening Day starter, Brett Myers, who was sent to Lehigh Valley on July 1. Because of the All-Star break, however, the Phillies won’t need a fifth starter again until July 23, when they play the Mets in New York.

It’s possible that Happ will be the Phillies’ choice to take the mound that day. In the meantime, manager Charlie Manuel said he wanted Happ to start some games for Lehigh Valley, rather than not see any action for the Phils.

“We don’t want him sitting 15 days without throwing in any games,” Manuel said.

Still, Manuel said he was impressed by Happ’s performance. The Phils won each of Happ’s two starts, Friday against the Mets and Wednesday against the Cardinals. Facing St. Louis, he allowed two runs over 6 1/3 innings.

“I like to think I hopefully did what they asked, as far as keeping the team in the game,” Happ said. “That was the goal. I like to go deep into games. [Wednesday] night was a little better.”

  19. danny Says:

That’f funny ain’t is Braden?? LOL

  20. Phil Says:

They are playing good ball so far this game. GO PHILS!!! This is what we’ve needed the past few weeks that we haven’t gotten. Good patient at bats, fundamental defense.

  21. Don M Says:

just in case anyone didn’t read it yet…

Howard is making my #6 pick of him in fantasy baseball look alright lately!!!

  22. Paul Says:

Thanks for the update on Happ.

Seems like a good idea, especially if they bring him back up after the break.

  23. Mike T. Says:

Danny, Howard is not “back”, what ever “back” is, he’ll never be there again.

  24. danny Says:

    http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/20080710_Rich_Hofmann__Hitting_joins_pitching_as_another_pressing_matter_for_Phillies.html

    Rich Hoffman is the man.

  25. Phil Says:

Where is there Mike T. He has more RBI’s before the break this year than he did in his mvp year.

  26. scot Says:

Howard is absolutely carrying the team, again. Hopefully the rest of the team starts following his lead.

  27. danny Says:

Yeah Mike, if only Ryan Howard were Albert Pujols… then we might be happy.

  28. Mike T. Says:

“There” is less than 100 strikeouts a year, “there” is working the count ALL SEASON, “there” is ABOVE average fielding, “there” is not only hitting – but CLUTCH hitting, “there” is less arrogance and less egotism. That’s where “there” is, Phil.

  29. Phil Says:

That was a good article. They rely on the long ball. They need a guy who can get on base.

  30. scot Says:

Clutch hitting? Like driving in the first runs when Santana was shutting us down? Or a go ahead home run in the 8th inning? Or setting the tone in today’s game.

Less egotism like never complaining when he was being booed, even when he was in the top 5 in rbi?

Some people would rather see Howard fail and the Phils lose just to be proven right.

  31. Phil Says:

Clutch hitting? How is he not hitting in the clutch. He’s hitting almost .400 with RISP…Most of the games we’ve won recently is because of him.

  32. Geoff Says:

stupid ass move. why send happ down? basically, they should have just released adam eaton and paid him off to get the f out. seriously, he is a worthless piece of trash.

im MAD Pissed off. maybe they will bring him up again in a few weeks

  33. danny Says:

Mike, Howard is who he is… except for the fielding part and the strikouts, all your “theres” are subjective.

By the way, you would have to be a total idiot to say Ryan hasn’t been clutch this year, and I know you’re not an idiot.

  34. Geoff Says:

m ike his only problem is his batting average/strikeouts. everything else is fine in terms of hitting.

theres other people in this lineup who have turned into junkpiles who are more seriuos a problem.

  35. danny Says:

Mike, you want Ryan is be Lance Berkman or Albert Pujols. Why do you put such ENORMOUS expectations on him?

  36. Phil Says:

Geoff, I think it’s just for the time being. He obviously can’t pitch for Eaton on Saturday because he just pitched yesterday. It was a good move. Keep the guy pitching some more. You don’t want him to get cold because he’s on a Phillies rotation and not getting any work.

  37. danny Says:

I’m ok with sending Happ down, it’s a good move

  38. Geoff Says:

oh, nevermind. i read the articles. they basically are implying that they will recall happ when the break is over because adam eaton is worthless and brett myers will be traded.

  39. Griffin Says:

The Giants haven’t scored a run in 20 innings in the Mets series so far. Just throwing it out there…

  40. Phil Says:

That’ll leave us with 4 pitchers. We need a 5th still. Rollins needs to get on base for this team to win. Thank god he just hit that double.

  41. Phil Says:

That means they’re do for some runs. Hopefully they’ll start today.

  42. danny Says:

    Steal third Jimmy

  43. danny Says:

The Mets starting pitching can be filthy, no doubt about it..

  44. Griffin Says:

I was offered tickets to the game at Shea today but San Fran is so awful and rooting for Barry Zito is near impossible. I’d rather go to work and watch the Phils on the computer.

  45. Griffin Says:

    make that 21 innings…

  46. Phil Says:

Howard would have never made that play.

  47. danny Says:

Do any of you actually want Burnett?

  48. Phil Says:

Dude, you shoulda went. Cheer on Aaron Rowand!!!

  49. Phil Says:

No Danny, he’s garbage. He’s let up 15 runs in his past 2 games.

  50. Griffin Says:

yeah, but after he gets out than who do you cheer for? Randy winn, Bengine Molina, Rich Aurilia, Ray Durham?? good God.

and NO. I do NOT want Burnett. He has a player option for next year. If he sucks he can just excercise that option and then you’re stuck with him for big money. Plus, he sucks.

  51. Gavin Says:

Bad news…..or good news I guess if you are looking at it differently…..Bedard was just place don the 15 Day DL with shoulder issues. One less guy to trade for. I guess its Burnett or bust. Maybe Oswalt.

    M’s released Sexson. There’s a guy to be a righthanded bat off the bench…..for 15 mill a year. :)

  52. Mike T. Says:

Ryan Howard gave me 10,000,000 reasons why I should have my expectations so high.

  53. Phil Says:

    YES!!!

  54. Griffin Says:

    nice job Chase.

  55. Phil Says:

I still say they should make a deal for Bedard and Ichirio. Bedard will be back by the all star break.

  56. Phil Says:

    I mean after the ASB.

  57. Mike T. Says:

That’s right, Howard – ground out to first base on one pitch just the way I like it.

  58. Griffin Says:

once Sexson clears waivers anybody can sign him. He makes sense for the Muts to platoon with delgado and come in for defense. He’s not Hispanic though, so the Muts are a longshot….

  59. scot Says:

Sounds good Mike T. Guess the best run producer in all of MLB isn’t good enough. You’re a clown.

  60. Gavin Says:

Not a good idea to trade for a guy with PR issues and a bum shoulder. Phil, any relation to Ed Wade?

  61. Phil Says:

Sexson probably just need a change of scenery.

  62. Griffin Says:

I don’t think the Mariners will trade Ichiro. But I did read something where the head of Nintendo left the team and right before he left he ordered the signing of Johjima to a big contract to “take care of him”. So I’m not sure that they need the Japanese influence still.

  63. Griffin Says:

Shit, Muts just scored thanks to 2 awful plays by Jose Castillo.

  64. Phil Says:

I just looked at Bedard’s last 10 games, and he only has gone 5 innings or less 7 of those times going 6 7 and 8 once.

  65. Gavin Says:

Phils need to grab Oswalt or Burnett while they can. How many times have we seen them wait around until all the good lookin’ chicks are taken.

  66. Phil Says:

I guess we shouldn’t take Bedard, although I have heard that their catchers are horrible, and can’t call a game so pitchers can’t locate at all.

  67. Phil Says:

Burnett? Why Burnett? He’s another Brett Myers.

  68. Griffin Says:

Burnett is not a good looking chick. He’s the chick that used to be pretty good looking who everyone thought was better looking and who is now a drugged out whore. PASS

  69. Craig Says:

Oswalt would be an amazing addition to this team but i fear what they’d have to give up in order to get him…

  70. Griffin Says:

damn, Muts put the game away with an insurmoutable 3-0 lead. 6 in a row for those duchebags.

  71. Gavin Says:

LOL. Nice…….speak from experience Griff? I agree….Burnett is one of those chicks who look good from afar, but Far from good.

  72. Gavin Says:

I say go after Oswalt……any time you have a chance to trade with wade, you should trip over yourself trying to get to the phone.

  73. Griffin Says:

Here is an hysterical article from the Onion about the Giants lack of offense.

    http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/san_francisco_giants_band

  74. Mike T. Says:

I dunno, Craig, you’d be surprised what Wade will accept.

  75. Phil Says:

Oh yeah, as for Ruiz…Yodier Molina had a year where he hit .216. That guy is arguably the best defensive catcher in the game, would you bench him for not hitting the ball? Ruiz reminds me a lot of Molina behind the plate. If his bat can pick up he can be a great catcher like Molina.

  76. Don M Says:

    Scot…. AMEN !!!

“Some people would rather see Howard fail and the Phils lose just to be proven right.”

People bitch about anything and everyone in this city… not to rant, but Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb are the best Coach and QB we’ve ever had in the city…EVER… and people want them both out..

I really think everyone calling for this current team to get blown up and bring all the prospects up was along the same lines… everyone wants to pretend they know more than they do, and everyone wants to be thought of as the smartest fan out there.. instead of just enjoying what we have!

  77. Phil Says:

Yeah, we already robbed him of Lidge who needed a change of scenery. Let’s get Oswalt from him too. We could probably give him total garbage for Oswalt.

  78. Don M Says:

Has there even been any talk from Houston that he’s available?? I know people were scouting him, but he’s one of the only players they’ve got down there.. it would probably take a good bit to get him, and Wade already knows what we have..

  79. Jim Says:

Who cares if Alyssa Milano is at the game, is Ted Danza going to be there?

  80. Phil Says:

Also, Oswalt was sloppy for a while in the beginning of the season, but his last 8 starts have been Q’s and he’s been throwing a lot of strike outs.

  81. Phil Says:

Maybe Wade will admit defeat and take Victorino straight up for Oswalt to replace Bourn.

  82. Phil Says:

Oh no…we might be getting Burnett.

  83. Griffin Says:

I heart you and your soft-throwing shenaningans, Jamie Moyer.

  84. Griffin Says:

    Go get her Sarge!

  85. Mike T. Says:

Alright, alright, as well, as well. He’s heating up, no doubt about that.

  86. Don M Says:

    He’s locked-in right now

  87. NEPA Says:

    K-How, nice.

  88. Don M Says:

    The Big Brownbino

  89. scot Says:

This just in….MLB has decided not to score Howard’s 2nd homerun since it was not a piece of “situational hitting”, nor was the game “late and close.”

Bud Selig when reached for further comment, just shrugged.

  90. danny Says:

    HAHAHA scot..

Anyone else think Coste has been watching Ruiz’s training video?

  91. Griffin Says:

The Giants have exploded for 2 runs! 3-3 bottom 5th

  92. danny Says:

2 out 2 run double by Wynn for the punchless G-Men

  93. Craig Says:

Rollins taken out by a base runner!

Charile – Get lidge to plunk him in the 9th

  94. Griffin Says:

That should’ve been interference on Duncan. There’s no way he could’ve touched the base.

  95. danny Says:

    *Cue Mike T*

  96. Griffin Says:

    crap

  97. Mike T. Says:

If you’re going to have your pitcher throw at someone, it is never your closer.

  98. Griffin Says:

    nice play

  99. danny Says:

    Looked like Kennedy slowed up!

  100. Griffin Says:

Just noticed that it took John Maine 109 pitches to go 4 2/3 innings. He’s not very efficient. Come on San Fran!

  101. Geoff Says:

at least howard mashed that junk looper. looper is total garbage.

  102. Geoff Says:

Yeah I just read that theyre pursing Burnett and Lowe: maybe a smoke screen to drive the price of bedard down?

i think a little bit of both actually.

anyone else notice that charlie openly said they need another hitter as well? i like it.

  103. Phil Says:

They do need a hitter. REALLY BAD

  104. danny Says:

The Dodgers are in first place now. They aint dropping Lowe!

  105. danny Says:

I just looked up Burnett’s stats… He is so unspectacular

  106. Phil Says:

He’s like Myers. He’s a headcase and will either throw a gem or throw total garbage.

  107. Griffin Says:

Shane got away with one there

  108. Mike W. Says:

madson time…i almost would rather bring in condrey

  109. Phil Says:

Now everyone will come out and start bashing him for striking out in that situation eventhough he’s the reason we’re winning this game.

  110. Phil Says:

Here’s an interesting piece of information. Burnett is leading the AL in k’s now that Sabathia is gone.

  111. Griffin Says:

Corey (Philadelphia): Are the Phillies going to actually be a player in the trade deadline for once?

Keith Law: I assume so – Gillick’s in his last year, there’s a clear win-now strategy. I’d cash in Golson pretty quickly, maybe Donald because 2b and ss are well filled in Philly, definitely keep Marson.

  112. NEPA Says:

Well, that was painless. Great job by Madson.

  113. Griffin Says:

    nice job by Madson.

Wright got a leadoff double and Beltran tried to bunt him over on the first pitch. He’s the cleanup hitter and he’s bunting. The muts announcers are killing him.

  114. Don M Says:

madson’s been really, really good lately

  115. Griffin Says:

Damn, the juicer Tatis just hit a homer. 5-3. oh well.

  116. NEPA Says:

You gotta be kidding me, Tatis 2 Run bomb. 5-3 mets

  117. Don M Says:

I can’t wait for Taguchi to pinch hit and blow this game wide open

  118. Phil Says:

Coste is turning into Ruiz…this can’t be good.

  119. danny Says:

    Chris Coste, you suck

  120. Mike W. Says:

Marson needs to be playing now. He should be starting with Coste.

  121. Don M Says:

    Coste gidp :(

  122. danny Says:

hate the mets, hate the mets, hate the mets:

    • Rain delayers of the week: Ever wondered how big leaguers kill a 2-hour, 50-minute rain delay? Now it can be told. Mets relievers Aaron Heilman, Scott Schoeneweis and Billy Wagner spent all 170 minutes of their never-ending delay Sunday in Philadelphia building a boat. They used water bottles, nail files and Slim Jims to construct the hull, and cut holes in aspirin packs to serve as the sails.
“We were down there so long,” Wagner quipped, “we were going to go down and see if the Phillies [bullpen] wanted to have a boat race. Whoever wins gets to go home.”

  123. Gary B Says:

How close was Feliz’s to going out? Im watching on shitty gameday at work.

  124. NEPA Says:

I say we move Werth to the catcher’s spot permanently.

  125. Mike W. Says:

not that close. wow, madson for the save!

  126. danny Says:

What would it take for us to get Nady?

  127. Craig Says:

Madson still in the game in the 9th

  128. Don M Says:

Madson really staying in for a 2 inning save>???

  129. Griffin Says:

Coste did smash that DP though, it was just right at somebody. I can live with that.
    I hope Lidge isn’t hurt…

  130. NEPA Says:

Wheels just said it wasn’t Coste’s fault that they left a runner on third last inning because he still hit the ball hard. Wheels, wake up, he needs to elevate the damn ball. Its all his fault – runner on third, less than 2 outs, get the run in. jesus.

  131. Griffin Says:

oh no, did Wheels just agree with me (sort of). That’s scary…for me.

Jose Castillo just threw away another grounder with two outs. 6-3 now. He’s solely responsible for 3 Mets runs today. what an asshat.

  132. danny Says:

    Why don’t we squeeze there?

  133. Griffin Says:

Does anyone remember a game where Aaron Miles killed the Phillies last year. He’s a bone. Come on romero!

  134. adamc254 Says:

Why is Madson still in the game?

  135. adamc254 Says:

oh good – Charlie took him out. he should have been out at the start of the inning.

  136. Paul Says:

I think they are trying to give Lidge a day off. Why didn’t Romero come in to face Duncan?

  137. adamc254 Says:

ok – one more out…lets go phils!

  138. MS Says:

    where is lidge?

  139. Mike W. Says:

lidge is good to go in all 3 games this weekend with the off day here. for once, i kinda applaud manuel’s foresight. usually he brings him in in 5 run games.

  140. Phil Says:

Good win today. Way to go Moyer and Howard.

  141. NEPA Says:

Nice. Good win. So big to win this series, especially after losing game 1.

  142. adamc254 Says:

    YESSSSS!!! go jc romero.

  143. Griffin Says:

yeah, good win. we won a series against someone other than Atlanta!

  144. MS Says:

    thanks Mike W- just curious.

  145. adamc254 Says:

now if Rowand can hit a homer here, w/one on for the giants…

  146. oaklandphilphan Says:

Sweet. I propose the ashburn award to either howard or moyer, with an edge to moyer cause Howard always hits well against St. Louis

  147. Geoff Says:

at least they won a series.

  148. Geoff Says:

if they deal for bedard or oswalt or burnett, the phillies must do what the cubs did: get someone added to the deal that can be a starter (chad gaudin in that case) if the main guy craps out.

i beleive they can afford this if they just sweeten the deal a little more.

taht was a wise precaution taken by chicago

  149. Phil Says:

I wonder if Happ is on the trade table and that’s why they have him up here. Maybe it’s a way to try and get Carrasco out of trade talks.

  150. LetsGoMets! Says:

phillies won a series against a team that wasn’t the braves, congrats!

  151. Rob E. Says:

The Jays “Covet” Golson supposedly and are really high on Harman and Donald. Hell I would give them all three for burnett, but they would need a pitcher in return. I feel like the phillies need to lock up those additional years in order to make the deal.

Happ, Golson and Donald, for Burnett and a mid level pitching prospect. That at least gives them proctection from a opt out by burnett

Forget about Lowe also, the Dodgers do not make trades, their owner and GM screw them up.

  152. Geoff Says:

maybe phil. BUT, he has shown he can be effective at the major elague level, therefore the kendrick rule applies: no trading young mlb pitching. prospects only. eaton has no value to trade so it has to be prospects only here.

you know you have hamels kendrick happ and whoever the new guy will be. they will be here, likely, next year and in to the future. its another thing not to worry about. so why get rid of more young mlb pitching, something we dont have much of, whne teams value your prospects who as yet are unproven to ANY extent?

its counterproductive and all its doing is making another hole in the rotation.

in order to be productive this year and beyond you have to add to your current roster without subtracting a meaningful young piece from your mlb roster.

  153. chris m Says:

good to see the mets beat someone other than us. great game by howard

  154. NJ Says:

Oswalt will be fantastic if we can get him but doesn’t look like the Astros will let him go unless they get what they want. Would like to see the Burnett deal work in our favour cost less rather than adding another Jay to the deal, we can move Eaton to the pen and the insurance is there without wasting money. The one I really like as it will cost less and could be a really strong addition is Derek Lowe.

  155. Geoff Says:

all im saying is legit teams have a policy of not urinating away young pitching once they show theyre decent at the major league level.

if they covet your prospects then give them some of the prospects they covet. dont thrown in happ just because youre afraid to get rid of eaton. eaton is the one who has to go and be paid to get out of here. not happ.

why are you trying to usher happ out the door when he showed you something there?

people want carrasco? fine let them have carrasco. ill take this guy here who i know is effective at the major league level. let carrasco net you that number two guy, not happ.

  156. Geoff Says:

i realize thats a flip flop but what the hell has carrasco shown ANY of us?

  157. oaklandphilphan Says:

looks like myers will return July 26th against Atlanta, ESPN is reporting that Myers will pitch again Saturday at Reading (timing his spots with Eaton). Eaton out after his next start?

Also, Bedard is on the 15-day DL now so maybe a deal for Burnett?

    My ideal 2nd half rotation:

    Hamels
    Burnett
    Moyer
    Kendrick
    Myers

  158. MS Says:

bedard to the DL – probably ends that trade speculation

  159. dan Says:

“We felt placing Bedard on the disabled list gave us some extra flexibility over the next week,” Pelekoudas said. “It doesn’t change when he would next pitch, and it allows Jim (Riggleman) to have an extra arm in the bullpen.”

  160. tom Says:

i think you’re looking at this the wrong way Geoff.

two starts from Happ does not a major league career make, sample size my friend. Happ could be a 4th/5th starter in the big leagues, Carasco could be a good 2nd starter and could help the team later this year or out of spring training next year. you can’t trade a guy of his talent when he’s this close to helping you, certainly not for a rental. Happs are out there, there are more of him in the system right now, Carascos are not.

in signing Lidge the Phillies have created a clear divide: a three year window that they think this nucleus will be at its best. Carasco and Marson are their best prospects and will contribute a lot during that time and shouldn’t be traded (hopefully Marson will be called up at least by the end of the year because I’m so freaking tired of Ruiz).

if you can get Burnett for Golson and mid level guys like Donald and Harman, I say do it. I’m not a fan of oft injured ’stuff’ guys (especially ones who can and will opt out post this year) but Burnett can help this team and none of those guys are realistically close to helping the big league club (Golson hits like Howard minus all the HRs and RBIs, Donald and Harman are at blocked positions SS, 2B) before their window closes.

  161. J Giuliano Says:

It’s bullshit that Holliday replaced Soriano on the AS team….he wasn’t even one of the final 5…fucking bullshit!

  162. J Giuliano Says:

doh…my apologies…..should have realized he was already on the team, and was replacing Soriano in the starting lineup..

  163. Phil Says:

Duke is on the trade market!!! Beane unloaded Harden before he showed off what his real prize could be!!!

  164. MS Says:

Phil – where are you seeing this?

  165. Phil Says:

Also, I just read the reason we didn’t get CC is because we refused to include Carrasco or Marson.

  167. MS Says:

    we’ll see….. i do think they’ll do something.

  168. Phil Says:

I’d give up a lot to get Duke. Everything Beane wanted besides Marson.

  169. fred Says:

I’m glad Bedard is injured, he’d have been a liability to acquire. Let’s go get Oswalt. Also, not saying i’d totally agree with the move or anything, but how would you guys feel about signing Bonds to play in the OF as an extra bat ? He can’t field a lick but would his offensive output be worth the hassle ?

  170. Phil Says:

I’ve been thinking about that this whole time, but refused to bring it up. I guarantee you as soon as he came out in the 9th to hit a walk-off home run Phillies fans will think he’s the man.

  171. Mark Says:

Good feeling to win a series. Fine pitching and just enough offense. Howard leads MLB in homers with 27. Man, if the Phils got their hands on Oswalt, that would trump Sabathia and Harden.
