I see that the Phils are scuffling again vs. Perez. Feels like a game that they will lose 3-1 or something low scoring like that…
July 24th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Not surprisingly, I agree with Paul. It’s like pulling teeth scoring runs for this team, and it really hurts with Moyer pitching well.
Other than the ninth Tuesday night, The Phils have scored 5 runs in 21 innings, or less than 2.5 runs per game. That’s much more indicative than one fluky inning.
I think, to answer Tim’s question, the REAL Phils are standing up.
July 24th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
I’m so sick of this anemic offense. They need to bring in a bat.
July 24th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Can’t they play smallball or something? Bunt. ANYTHING.
July 24th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
I honestly don’t think they need a bat. There’s just something weird going on. When the team with the best hitters in the league isn’t hitting, you don’t need another good hitter. You need a new approach.
July 24th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
9 k’s already by the Phils.
POOR.
July 24th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
The sad thing is that this offense has amazing potential. Sure, it wouldn’t hurt to have a better offense-producing third baseman, catcher, and rightfielder, but the potential of Rollins, Howard, Utley and Burrell as the nucleus of a team (even with mediocrity the rest of the way around) is impressive. Early in the year, Rollins and Howard struggled. Now, Rollins and Utley are struggling. If everybody starts firing on all cylinders, this offense would be good (if not great) as is.
I remember years when I’d have hope when the Phils were down 2-3 runs late. Now, it’s the 6th inning, we’re down 1-0, and the game feels so over. We’ve scattered 4 hits over 6 w/ no multiple hit innings. Bruntlett just doubled, so let’s hope I’m wrong, but this team doesn’t inspire the passion and hope of past Phils teams.
July 24th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
At least utley made contact. What the hell is going on?
July 24th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Burrell
July 24th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
cmon Howard
July 24th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
This game story was written in the 3rd inning…Phils waste another strong effort from starter, offense continues to struggle.
July 24th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
Moyer is pitching too well. This team just cannot put a bat on a ball.
July 24th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
First run on Perez this year. alright
July 24th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
anyone know why rollins was scratched?
July 24th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
looked like howard held up on that last K to me… even ron darling thought so.
July 24th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
that werth homer must’ve been 450 feet
July 24th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
“Boo, F-You” Phillies!
July 24th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Moyer is pitching very well Tim. Would be a bummer if they can’t get him/the team a win.
July 24th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
They’re calling it an undisclosed ailment right now
July 24th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
Ill tell you what the ailment is: its called, “hes in the process of getting traded for roy halladay today” syndrome. i would do that anyday of the week, without regret, in a flash.
July 24th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
great effor by moyer, but i think it’s time to take him out now. put in durbin please.
July 24th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Dobbs hits for Moyer here, Please!!!
July 24th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
JRoll who?
July 24th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
utley’s average is taking a huge dive. when was the last time he had a clutch hit?
July 24th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
doesnt that classification scream of “being traded” to anyone else or is it just me?
July 24th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
It screams HANGOVER to me… but they usually describe that as “FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS” …. what happens to Jason Donald if the Phillies trade Rollins, and call him up, I guess no more Olympics once you make a major league roster??
July 24th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
I think that’s just you Geoff.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Larry Anderson is ripping on everything the Mets players do…gotta love it…
July 24th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
johnny wacko, up again with the game on the line against the mets… it happened three times last series.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
I am enjoying the utter contempt LA and Franske have for Tatis. He must be bush as hell.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
i think that would be the case. donald would get the call, i think hes ready anyway.
just me? any, ANY general manager would make that trade. its not even a question.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
who the Fuhk is Johnny Wacko
July 24th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
But if you listen to SNY they don’t really rip on anyone.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
Rivlez – That would be because the Phillies don’t go around showing up their opponent.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
i smell a replay of yesterday
July 24th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
the other night you could hear Sarge screaming “YES!!!!” in the background when Tmac was giving the play by play on Taguchi and Rollins’ hits.. I didn’t notice it during the game (probably because i was yelling too).. but I heard it clearly on CSN highlights yesterday..
Not for nothing, but good for them for being Homers.. and ANY announcer that was calling the game should have commented that Reyes was acting like a clown, and back in the day, either he or the next batter up would have gotten DRILLED in the ribs with a fastball.. you just don’t show up other teams like that.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
Maybe to you it might mean that, IMO if you get mad over that your a sore loser in my book.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
IMO – Its all about respect. I prefer my team to respect the opponent. When you respect the opponent you are less likely to overlook them and lose – oh I don’t know – a 7 game division lead.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
*sigh*
July 24th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
If you get mad for what? If you don’t think that Reyes holding his finger up all the way to second base was poor sportsmanship, then you suck.
I called Howard out big time for hitting a bomb in Texas and watching go before he left home plate… if a guy is really excited, thats one thing.. when they stand there and admire their work, or make all kinds of geastures that show up the other team… they should get plunked next time they come up.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
This one SHOULD be over now.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
dammit
July 24th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
The bullpen is starting to slip into ‘average’ territory…not good.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
I really don’t care show me up, who cares. It don’t bother me any. JRoll can fuckin do flips to first base after a homerun, I don’t give a shit.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
uhh nice language.. do I kiss your mother with this mouth? Damn straight I do
July 24th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
This series is an exact microcosm of the season thus far.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
That’s it – I give up on the 2008 Phils. I just can’t stand it anymore.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
YEAAAH!!! WOOOO! DEL-GADO! Respect that, Philly. You people get so upset with announcers and home run trots- in the end its about winning.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
i have to sit here at work, watch this shit on gameday, watch them slowly flush the season away. How many men have they left on base today???
July 24th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
So much for the Rollins traded theory
July 24th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
nice job rollins
July 24th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
I hope the Phillies don’t do anything stupid and sacrifice the future for this season, b/c this team just isn’t very good. They are 6 games below five hundred for the last two months! Save the prospects and try again next year. We done.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
Let’s go Cardinals.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
This should be an interesting AB. I really don’t understand why all the Philly fans are so down. Jesus you guys were in first place since April 19th. Just imagine being a Mets fan. You lose to shitty teams and then you go take 2 of 3 from the Yankees and then you go take 2 of 3 from the Angels. It hasn’t been a pretty ride for us either. We are pretty much in the same boat.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Guys, it is still July. Plenty of season to go. Sure it ain’t looking good, but it’s still July.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Griffin, at what point did you throw in the towel last year?
July 24th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Bottom line – Phils are terrible right now. They have no heart or passion. The supposed big guns are incredibly inconsistent. Utley doesn’t have the guts to be a leader. Howard is too much of a head case to fill the role. This team will never win a championship so I vote for tearing it down. Why tease us like they have for the last 5 seasons when even if they make the playoffs they have no shot of winning the Series.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
They will get a good addition to the back-end of the bullpen. I just wonder at what cost???
July 24th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Griffin, I believe it’s seven games now….15-22??? Right?
July 24th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Done? That’s pretty moronic. they are 1 GB with a better pitching staff than last season. All they need to do is pull their heads out of their asses at the F&^king plate!!! There’s no way this team should hit like this day in and day out. Yes, Jenkins, Ruiz, and Feliz suck (and we knew that going in), but the problem has been more of a Rollins/Utley/Howard one. Someone has go to step up and put this offense on his shoulders. Ain’t no MVP coming from this lineup.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
It doesn’t matter – Mets will always suck, and even if they make the playoffs (and knowing the Mets, they’ll find a way to blow that too), they won’t go past one round. Mets are old, and right now simply lucky. Laws of averages will catch up to them.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
I swear to god, that was one of the loudest “jump off the bandwagon” moments ever.
What the hell is wrong with all of you.. We ain’t winning the World Series this year… we all know that.. but we have a pretty decent team, and they aren’t playing that well right now.. don’t give up yet.
Nothing is over until we decide it is !! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor ?? Hell No!
July 24th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
They don’t NEED pitching anymore. They need f***ing bats! Man, I’m so t’eed. Second rubber game in a row and we can’t bat for sh**. Nice little trip through the NL East- lose lose lose. Not a damn way we get the division now. Dammit.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
HAHAHA Look at the first post. Paul is a mind reader.
Paul Says:
July 24th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
I see that the Phils are scuffling again vs. Perez. Feels like a game that they will lose 3-1 or something low scoring like that…
July 24th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Next 6 games are very interesting however: Phils have Atlanta and Washington. GOTTA COME UP BIG ON THOSE GAMES. Mets have Cardinals and Florida – teams playing for something. This still could change pretty quickly, but its up to the Phils to make it happen and win. (B/c the Mets will do their part and go, at best, 3-3 in the those next 6!!!)
NY fans – you all blow!
July 24th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
The whole team stinks. Eff em all. Can’t hit in the clutch and they keep on blowing solid pitching efforts. I am sick of everyone saying it is the pitching. It is these freakin sallies in the middle of the lineup. Oh yeah, and Feliz sux all around. worst base runner in all MLB.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Way to ride the momentum of the first game Phils….. Mets have no heart? Well you could have fooled me with the way they bounced back in these two games….and their starting pitching looks set for the stretch run
July 24th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
let’s face it, Phil fans, the Mets own us this year. we just suck in all aspects. i don’t understand why we’re getting so upset at Reyes for showboating, either. every team does it, including ours. he is hated for being a great player, not for being a showboat. if it was the mets turn in 2007 to collapse after the allstar break, it’s ours this year. i think this is what we get for talking so much trash all the time.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
adamc254 you’re retarded. I can’t believe what I am seeing on here. Not even August yet and just lost 1st place since April 19th and the season is over. WTF??!?!
July 24th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Well said Dave.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Rollins was late to the game, which is why he didn’t start.
Really?
July 24th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
i don’t care if the Mets own us, but I can’t stand to see them win the division. If it’s forgone that the Phils are blowing this thing, I’m pulling for the Marlins.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
I’m a nerd, and I cried myself to sleep when the Phillies won the other night. But now that we won 2-of-3 at home.. like we’re supposed to… Im on the Philliesnation blog trying to be cool
July 24th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Would have never guessed that people are giving up on them after a loss. The most up and down fans in sports. I’m not one of them but half of this thread demostrates who the real fans are and the bandwagoners. Any fan who gives up on a baseball team in July is a jackass and should never watch the sport again. Fucking relax, we’re a game out with a series against the Braves coming up, at home. I’ll be at all three since the Phils tend to win when I go to games. Sometimes you have to be supersticious.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Did I really say 3-1 loss? Dang, maybe I should go buy a lottery ticket.
What a crappy loss by the Phils. No one is clutch right now.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Even though the rest of the Mets fans on here sometimes bash Chase Utley.. I would gladly steal, and then sell those BIG, UGLY gold hoop earings that I bought my baby-momma for her BIRFDAY last year..for Chase Utley.. yea. ima tru playa fa sho
July 24th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
CARLOS DELGADO is clutch right now.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
They’re gutless. There are teams that you know will scratch and claw to get to a win — and this team resembled a team like that on Tuesday night — and there are teams that you know are content with getting close. There are teams that have players who will fight to get on base, and there are teams where players try to hit every pitch out. There are teams that will make the playoffs, and there are the Phillies.
The culprits are unusual for this team: a listless approach, no one running (yes, Rollins runs, but the MVP never gets on base) and hitting that knows no situation and produces home run derby swings and Little League results. You can fix the latter part with work, but this team hasn’t proven that it wants to put in that work.
They seem, ever since Bruntlett railroaded Yadier Molina at the plate, to be a team that just goes out there for a paycheck. Yeah, there’s no more clicheed barb to throw at a team than that one, but how do you account for guys who can’t and won’t move baserunners, guys who walk off the field with their heads slung low after popping out with a runner on third, without even a hint of emotion, and guys who swing at anything thrown by a pitcher as long as it’s not a pickoff to first?
There seems to be no fun inside of this team, and there sure as hell isn’t any fun in watching them. The Mets are in first now, and they’re not gonna give it up willingly, as we certainly did. Last year’s team didn’t let anybody off the hook, and this year, leaving runner after runner on the basepaths, that’s all we’re doing.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Matty – Isnt that the truth
July 24th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Relax. I’m not saying the Phillies are making the play-offs- but they’re hardly done.
The Mets are a .500 team plus one eight game winning streak. Since the break, they’re 4-3 playing at home versus the Phillies and a notsogood Reds team.
How about the Mets play one month, after the all-star game, at say- three over .500- before we quit?
22 of our next 28 are against teams w/ losing records- so I’m pretty sure, even w/ our struggles, we’ll be a few games over break even. Let’s see if the Mets can play 18-12 over that span before we quit.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Rivlez, I’m trying not to be down but I’ve seen this movie like a million times before, and I know what’s coming…
Tuesday night was great, but these guys really really blew a huge opportunity to rip the Mets hearts out after that. Instead, we lose another series after winning game 1. JUST CANNOT HAPPEN. Can you imagine where things would be if not for Tuesday night’s comeback? 3 out…
I don’t know where you are, but I have to work in Manhattan with tons of idiot Met fans around me. It’s tough to relax in that environment. One a**hole met fan just sent me an e-mail, subject: 1st place – and then saying “is ours!!!” I replied “congratulations. enjoy it through the weekend”, and I hope that’s the case, BUT C’MON PHILS JUST GOTTA DO SOMETHING NOW…AND FAST…
I’ll never really get off the bandwagon…so here’s a semi-hearted “Go Phils” for everyone.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Chase Utley: 0 for Series
July 24th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
To be clear: Go Phils.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Lets Go Mets is an ignorant NY fan (those are actually synonyms) who doesn’t have a clue.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Oh why Oh why do I suck so bad? What happened to my MVP-2-Be season? I feel like I am so disoriented, so out of whaaack. What the F happened to me? I am THE Annoited Chase Mutley for Christs Sake!!!! Maybe it’s Jen’s fault for paying more attention to those Fing dogs! I swear, if she keeps this shit up, I am moving in with Brett Myers!!!! Yeah, that’s it, maybe after one of my dreadfully horrible games, I can take my frustrations out like he does. And to make matters worse, I am the recipient of the Steve Jeltz for Fing up todays game. What a pathetic loser!!!
go phillies – - rah rah
July 24th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
trade jimmy rollins now please
July 24th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
i understand geoff’s feelings, but I still wouldn’t trade him yet. totally don’t get why rollins swung at the very first pitch in that situation. It seems like way too many times the Phils are swinging first pitch.
July 24th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Since June 10th, we’ve played 37 games- 31 versus winning teams (only losers were Atlanta and Arizona (one game under) including some brutal good teams (ie. The American League).
That is your swoon right there. An 88 win-team (which, if your rational about the Phils is where they are) isn’t going to play .500 ball against that slate.
But again, 22 out of the next 28 are against losers- and I bet we “look†a whole lot better four weeks from now.
July 24th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
When I asked that Mets fans be FUNNY and ORIGINAL on here before.. I meant it !!!
If you aren’t going to be either.. please just go back to your North Jersey home and take pictures of your blow-out haircuts.. the exact same new haircut that your friends all have.. and then post those pictures on MySpace..
Thank You.
July 24th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Look at the Rays… they don’t look so hot right now.. all teams have their ups and downs.. we’ve been in a funk and haven’t been able to get a win steak going, despite some very good starting pitching.
I would only trade JRoll for Halladay.. and that aint happenin
July 24th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
ADam you are a boob – yeah the mets will blow it in the playoffs? How did you do in the playoffs last year? Oh that ’s right, you embarrassed the NL East. Count the playoff wins between the teams since the Phillies early 90’s “success.” What is it, 19 to 5? retard.
July 24th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
Phillies fans are not bandwagon fans…that is a fact. We are passionate fans and passion breeds passionate reactions. When we get slop on the field we damn well have the right to sling it back. I’m pissed with the way the team blew a chance to make a statement and I might wish I could just turn off the switch and not care. However, what makes us great fans is the fact that we don’t know where that switch is…
…if the ship goes down (and it appears to be taking on water at a quick rate right now) I’ll be going down with it!
Go Phils!
July 24th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
this team has been down for 2 months now
July 24th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Don M. – I have been pissed about the loss today and have been reading this blog and have been even more pissed when I think about our team. Your animal house quote just made me bust up laughing, thanks for that. I needed it.
BTW Chase Utley is a shadow of his former self, like the past two years when he played with all heart and gave everything he had day in and day out, that’s why he became my favorite Philly. Now he seems like he doesnt care.
Also, I got a nickname for Madson. Maddy Cakes, for that pancake he tossed up to Reyes last night.
July 24th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
It actually seems the opposite: they take too many easy fastballs, then swing at pitches way out of the zone. It seems that pitchers are always ahead of them. This offense needs some life. It is not just underachieving, but weak. The home run swings will get them nowhere. While I respect people who say that Howard’s production is impressive, he is a one-dimensional player who should be dealt. In the Golden Era, there was always a missing ingredient – who turned out to be Pete Rose. A scrappy, speedy contact hitter, once again, is what they need out of the trade market – not more pitching. I see teams like the Mets and the Marlins go with pitches and stroke them for base hits, not for longballs. That is why they can compete with almost any pitcher. Our guys, instead, want to hit home runs, and their more aggressive, more methodical opponents have not let them escape with such an approach.
July 24th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Neither team has a World Series ring recently, so neither team should talk smack… if anything.. the Mets have a higher payroll, and greater expectations every year.. so you would consider them more of a disappointment.
July 24th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
i see them stare at tons of “it doesnt get any greener” fastballs right down the middle and then swing at garbage. this tells me that they arent prepared at all for their appearances at the plate. theyre not studying pitchers, theyre not preparing mentally. the manager has to come in there and grill them and get it right.
otherwise, you trade the player, if they arent foxused and arent trying and arent acknowledging their mistakes. that sounds like jimmy rollins and shane victorino to me.
July 24th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Well considering the Mets are now in first place its hard to call them a disappointment….the Phillies on the other hand blew a 6 1.2 game lead in a month and could have buried the Mets. That is disappointing. And yes bla bla bla last year Mets blew it in September when it counts…..Yup they did “LAST YEAR”
July 24th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
This team looks really sloppy today. Ollie has 7 strike outs already. He’s on pace to get 15+ k’s. This offense is so fucking pathetic. I’m about to become a fucking Royal’s fan. At least they try eventhough they’re talentless. It is painfully obvious this team is lacking leadership. Jamie should get up in their faces and tell them to stop being a bunch of pussies. He’s played with better talent than what’s on the Phillies. I’m sure he’s sick of them acting like a bunch of primadonna’s. the bullpen, Hamels, and Moyer are the only guys that have been actually coming to play. We are making Ollie look like the greatest pitcher in the world. How the fuck did they not score Bruntlett on that shit? Say goodbye to 1st place. They are fucking pathetic. Speaking of Bruntlett, look at him. He had 2 hits, and doesn’t have nearly as much talent as Rollins. This team has no life. Jimmy walked up in the top of the 9th and showed everyone why he got benched today. Fuck this team, they’re horrible.
Make an entry about Roy Halladay. They shouldn’t have went after shitty ass Blanton so fast. We could have had Halladay, and I called it weeks ago.
July 24th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Actually, adamc254, LETS GO METS, is a well informed Mets fan who attends most games. I don’t wear a “F-YOU” shirt like many classless Philly fans, I don’t swear at the games, I don’t fight and despite Don M’s claims, I do not live in Jersey or look like a Gotti. In fact, I despise New Jersey. I just am amused by the anger you guys have and you obsession with New York. You guys are the little brother who is always trying to beat the older brother.
GO CRY YOUR HEART OUT (I think I’ve read that someone before)
July 24th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
What I love is that Rollins calls out Reyes after his play Monday night when he missed the bag in the ninth…..then Reyes hits a 3 run bomb to win it last night and then Rollins takes a seat in the rubber match, only to step up in the ninth and ground out. Could not have gone better
July 24th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
I’m just gonna relax and forget about this game. I hope all of the Mets fans enjoy their weekend in first place. 72 hours and it will all be over for them.
Lets Go Mets may be well informed, but obviously doesn’t have much else in his life if he is attending most games.
I don’t despise NJ, but I do despise NY. It’s not anger, it’s just disgust at your arrogance. Like Reyes and his hand jive crap, and the rest of the classless mets. While the Phils are scuffling right now, I think it’s very clear that their players act more professionally in games and play the right way. I respect David Wright, but the rest of them are bums.
And here’s the deal – we’re not the younger brother (don’t want any relationship with the NYers). You Mets fans are the little brother…always trying to beat the Yankees – and you NEVER WILL. Always 2nd class in your own city…
July 24th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Matty – how exactly did Rollins call out Reyes on Tuesday night? I missed that.
July 24th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
the phillies have a way of making oliver perez look like stever carlton. they just have a terrible approach to him. up there swingin away. everybody knows the way to beat perez is to let him beat himself. you have to narrow down your strike zone and really make him throw strikes because he goes mental and blows up when he walks a few guys. but the phillies go up there swingin away wildly at his sliders in the dirt and neck high fastballs and getting his confidence up. terrible approach to perez.
July 24th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
Rollins got benched because he was late to the game (http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/20080724_Rollins_benched_for_being_late.html). He’s finding all the ways to prove to his team and Philly fans that he’s not capable of leadership anymore, after swinging at every first pitch and getting benched for not hustling.
Attaboy, Jimmy. All that’s left now is being caught snorting the first base line.
July 24th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Who’s angry and obsessed?
You’re the one on a Phillies forum! Therefore, you must be obsessed with reading about the Phillies.
Why don’t you go to a Mets forum and associate with your own?
July 24th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
I’d like to appologize to all the phillies fans on here for having to put up with loud-mouthed Mets fans on this message board. As a passionate, life-long fan of the NY Mets, I urge all Mets fans who post on this board to stop. It’s just bad form, guys. If I saw phillies fans talking trash on Metsblog.com, I’d be absolutley furious. Why do you care what goes on here anyway? Sure, you might see comments that annoy you, but it’s a phillies blog, so what do you expect? Every fan blog is going to be a bit biased toward its own team!
That being said, you guys (like everyone else these days) are way too hard on Reyes in general and for what he did last night in particular. If I remember correctly, Victorino did some showboating when he crossed the plate in the 9th on tuesday night.
Just wanted to get that in there. Really though, to the Phillies fans – just ignore the Mets fans. To the Mets fans – STOP POSTING HERE.
And that’s the last you’ll ever hear from me…
July 24th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
Reyes is this. Reyes is that. You know what? Jose Reyes showed up on time today, ready to play baseball. Jimmy Rollins didn’t. Result: Mets in first place. Put that in your cheese steak and eat it. Reyes > Rollins. MVP my anus.
July 24th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
You’re right, adamc254, the Yankees are the team to beat in New York. So what? You have to prove you are worthy of being better than the Mets before you can make those comments. Right now, you are the 3rd class team. While we are on the topic of class, have you watched Victorino lately? Have you looked at the fans in the stands with their F you shirts on? Did you have the volume up with Chase cursed out America? Did Rollins show up on time today? Has Ryan Howard ever admired a home run? Does Rollins run his mouth? Did Philly fans boo Michael Iriving when taken off in a stretcher? Was there a jail under the vet? Dude, come on. Wake up. It’s the pot calling the kettle black.
July 24th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
hopefully the jalapeno bacteria will wreak havoc on all the border jumping mets players, and fans for that matter. turn down the reggaeton and finish trimming my hedges. sorry fellas, but these trolling mets bums get to me
July 24th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
phlorida, im going to get a lot of rant for this, but you are the biggest idiot ive seen yet on this forum
July 24th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Hey Phlorida – you are a dip shit
July 24th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
All around a good crisp pitchers duel (whodv’e thunk it with an erratic Ollie and an older Moyer whose 1st MLB win was written on parchment). Ollie got 12 Ks with 3 vs the mighty Ryan Howard, and Moyer showed guts out there on a day game in which he usually flounders. This series could have been a sweep for the Amazins, but the Phils showed that they do have heart from Tuesday as do the Mets the other 2 games. Its gonna be a great 2 more months to decide who goes into October or goes directly into “Honey-Do” season, and that includes the Marlins in the mix.
July 24th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Phlorida, hahahahahahahaha. Your team lost to a team full of people you hate. How does that make you feel, you racist piece of crap?
July 24th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
Phlorida you racist piece of shit…i hope your mother dies…This is so typically of Philliy fans…your tre colors come out….its a freaking game…there are more important things than life but you have to resort to bashing minorities? I hope your dick falls off.
July 24th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
Reyes was wrong and that cannot be denied. The Mets all bicker with umpires and celebrate on the field like little children. Not even like ruffians, because ruffians at least have some dignity underneath the wildness. The point is, the Phils are out of first place. The Mets’ assertive plate approach should be a lesson to the Phils. I see uppercuts in nearly everybody’s swing in the line-up, which accounts for the pop-ups and strike-outs. Slapping breaking pitches the other way, driving juicy fastballs anywhere, bunting runners over, stealing and double-stealing – why can’t the Phils invest in these concepts instead of in unrealistic power. As I tell my friends, they must perform as if it were the Dead Ball Era…as if clubbing upper-deckers or even fence-scratchers were impossible. If the speed and agility are not there, then those attributes must be infused to replace the complacency. The key is ADAPTATION – studying pitchers, sensing urgency, forming and reforming strategy. That way, pitchers like Oliver Perez, Ricky Nolasco and Tim Redding would not dominate them like they always seem to – and everybody in red pinstripes would be more satisfied.
July 24th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
And by the way, Scheity: your comment about the first-base line was classic. And so true.
July 24th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
don’t know if anybody’s said this, but the best thing to come out of today’s game by far was Chris Wheeler actually doing something cool. he came up with a great nickname for Jose Reyes and few other guys “el perro caliente”. because that’s exactly what they are. a bunch of spanish speaking hot dogs.
July 25th, 2008 at 1:15 pm

mg52,
even though I am a die hard mets fan, I understand your pain. I stuck through the times when Piazza sucked and our first baseman was Todd Zeile. Rey Ordonez at short too. You are obviously upset with this team’s performance, just as I was last year with the mets
In response to your plea to deal away Ryan Howard, and become faster, I’ve come up with a potential trade:
The Angels are looking for a power bat. Who has more power then Ryan Howard? The Angels have some players who could set team in the direction you obviously want them to take. How about Howard to the Angels for Chone Figgins, Reggie Willits, Nick Adenhart, and Jeff Mathis. Figgins is fast and can play third, short and outfield. Willits is an Endy Chavez type fourth outfielder with speed and upside. Adenhart and Mathis are top prospects.
Notice that Casey Kotchman isn’t included in the deal. This brings me to my next trade. Jimmy Rollins is Mr. MVP but he has a .269 average with 6 homers and 25 steals. He is exactly the kind of player the Dodgers would deal for. Consider this: After the aforementioned Howard deal, the Phils could trade Rollins for James Loney, Matt Kemp, Andy LaRoche, and a Double A pitcher or two. For all those wondering, however, Dodgers phenom Clayton Kershaw is untouchable, but the Dodgers have lots on the farm.
The total haul would be Figgins, Willits, Adenhart, Mathis, Loney, Kemp, LaRoche, and maybe two AA pitching prospects.
July 25th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
I’m sorry, i forgot about the Rollins trade advantages!
Loney is a fantastic young first baseman who could be an immediate and productive replacement for Howard. Kemp is an up and coming outfielder with power potential and plenty of speed. He would evenually replace Geoff Jenkins. Andy LaRoche is a corner infield prospect with tremendous upside and who doesn’t need more pitcher prospects
July 25th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
Acutally, that sounds somewhat reasonable. thats what im talking about. good deals. howeer, were overvaluing are own players a bit. even if we got back 25% less in return, which is what i think would happen, its still a good haul.
id wait on howard just to see if he has a good year next year. it would be selling a little low perhaps. but to hell with rollins.
July 25th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
the dodgers do dumb stuff all the itme like that, i could see them offering their farm for jimmy rollins.
the pirates dont want to give up jack wilson and rollins would tempt the dodgers greatly.
July 25th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
The Man IS the Man. The Mets may be the enemy, but their classy aficionados are our friends. These deals could unequivocally bring success to the franchise. And they should be considered soon, lest other teams start thinking that Howard is dead weight. While I am hesitant for Rollins to be sent away, the Man is not off his rocker by implying that his deficiency of hustle is unacceptable.
