Gamenight: Cardinals (51-40) At Phillies (48-43)

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Wed, July 09, 2008 06:02 PM

First off, VOTE BURRELL.

Next, this team needs a win. Bad. And the offense needs to score. Bad. We’ve seen far too much of this pressing, pushing crap this team is doing. No more weak groundouts to start the game. No more 1-2-3 first innings. No more stranding a runner on second with no outs, or stranding a runner on third with one out. No more horrible Ryan Howard strikeouts on a low-and-away slider. No more Carlos Ruiz double plays. No more Jayson Werth strikeouts. No more fly balls to the outfield by Shane Victorino.

No. No more of any of that. The Phils will have to hit off Mark Mulder, making his first start since September. And they’d better. There’s really no excuse.

The Phils counter with JA Happ, who pitched well enough to earn an ovation last time out against the Mets. That was, of course, the team’s last win.

Phillies: JA Happ (0-0) 3.86 ERA
Cardinals: Mark Mulder (0-0) 13.50 ERA

Gametime: 7:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 82, scattered storms
Lineup: Rollins/Victorino/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Werth/Feliz/Ruiz/Happ

Your gamenight beer: Salvation, please! The offense needs to wake up and see the err of its ways. Tonight, pop open a Salvation, a peachy, amber kind of beer that is sweet to the touch. It better be the magic elixir this team needs. If not, is there anything this team can do?

Go Phillies!

  1. oaklandphilphan Says:

good lineup, hope to see a win

  2. Mike T. Says:

Yeah, I like this lineup — but I like this better:

    Victorino/Rollins/Utley/Burrell/Howard/Werth/Feliz/Coste/Happ

The only thing is three righties at 6, 7 and 8 – but it’s still my favorite.

  3. Truth Hurts Says:

Good luck with that one. That whooshing sound? The Phils going down the toilet…

  4. Tim Malcolm Says:

Sorry Mike, new lineup in there. I was totally wrong at guessing Charlie. Same old lineup.

  5. danny Says:

    If they can’t beat Mulder..

i agree with the D-Bag Mets fan.

    Whoosh!

  6. oaklandphilphan Says:

gaahhhhhhhhhhh i hate the lineup now…get freakin ruiz out of there and werth up from the six spot!!!

  7. Tyler - Mets Fan! Says:

We got this one. No way we’re losing 5 straight again, is there?

  8. NJ Says:

Credit to Charlie here. Good luck to the boys, hopefully they can show some discipline tonight otherwise we’re up sh*t creek and just had the paddle shoved up our arse…

  9. TJ Says:

As long as J-Roll scores a run, we need to score in the first three innings to win, dont ask me why, its just a feeling.

  10. Phils Phan Says:

Man, the Mets fans have a lot of confidence. Was it not four games ago that they were saying how their team has no heart, no chance, etc. after the B9 loss? Honestly, they need to have Prozac night at Shea Stadium. They can have it right after the “Get Sterilized” night.

That being said, this team right now is flat. For the pitchers, it no doubt is demoralizing that, for the most part, they’re on their own. For the batters, I have no idea. Perhaps Alyssa Milano can help them–before it’s too late.

  11. Greg V. Says:

I don’t want to say anything that may be a jinx, but I have a feeling I’ll be smiling at the end of this one.

  12. NEPA Says:

Greg, there’s no way to jinx this team right now. They can only get better from this point. Let’s just hope we don’t see K-How bunting in this one – apparently that means desperation.

  13. Thom Says:

Can happ do it tonight and deliver a good outing like he did for the most part against the 2nd team in ny.

  14. andrew c. Says:

I’m spending my rain delay time by VOTING FOR PAT!

  15. Thom Says:

    me 2

  16. NEPA Says:

We can vote all we want (and I have) but there’s no way Pat is beating out Wright. He’s a NY player. Let’s get real.

  17. andrew c. Says:

voting for pat is like an addiction… that vote again button is right there.

  18. NEPA Says:

Walk on 4 pitches. Oh boy.

  19. Thom Says:

    not a good start

  20. PhillyFriar Says:

It’s sad watching Mulder now. I honestly wonder if he’ll ever again start a major league game — he’s said he’d retire before he has another shoulder surgery.

But as far as the Phils are concerned: with the Cards’ starter leaving after 0.1 IP, this game becomes a MUST WIN. And I don’t toss terms like that around lightly.

  21. Greg V. Says:

    Quality start from Mulder!

    VOTE FOR PAT!

    It is addicting!

  22. Thom Says:

i think mulder will be a reliever next year and a pretty dam good one and come on howard do something.

  23. andrew Says:

    of course a dp

  24. nate Says:

    double play? ARE YOU SERIOUS?

  25. Greg V. Says:

Howard hits into a double play? What a shocker! If we can’t win off of the Card’s bullpen, this season is over!

  26. Brian Michael Says:

    Voting is ridiculously addictive.

    http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2008/fv/ballot.html

Sucks about Mulder, hopefully the Phils can take advantage of the bullpen today…and tomorrow.

  27. Mike T. Says:

Oh look, Ruiz grounded out to 3rd.

  28. Geoff Says:

oh man they cant hit anyone right now

  29. Thom Says:

    ruiz= crap

  30. Greg V. Says:

They should do an exhibition game where Brett Myers and Kris Benson pitch against them. If they can’t hit them, CALL SOMEBODY!

  31. Greg V. Says:

Maybe if everyone grows a mustache, they’ll start hitting!

  32. Thom Says:

dont go there i say fu man chu like sal fasano maybe that will get the team going again

  33. Greg V. Says:

Great fielding from Pat, the All-Star!

  34. Geoff Says:

same thing every game now why doesnt gillick do anything !!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  35. Geoff Says:

the sarge is just basically saying someone needs to get their ass whipped in the clubhouse

  36. Thom Says:

    sarge is annoying

  37. Mike T. Says:

This is not a good baseball team – period.

  38. Thom Says:

The phillies need to do something to put a spark into the team like bring up a young minor leauge hitter or something that can flat out rake it.

  39. Geoff Says:

victorino has been thrown out all the time during this slump

  40. Geoff Says:

they totally suck right now mike. it will change when they make some moves.

  41. Thom Says:

This is a slump that wont die.

  42. Joshua Says:

Good job vic, get thrown out while your home run hitter is at the plate…that was totally a bad baseball move…you DO NOT steal while your home run hitter is at the plate, unless you have the lead

  43. Greg V. Says:

Hey Milt Thompson! Answer me this! Why are you still employed?

  44. Thom Says:

    greg i second that question

  45. andrew Says:

happs pitching a good game atleast.

  46. Thom Says:

yeh i think happ is looking good so far.

  47. Greg V. Says:

Happ is doing great! Give him some run support!

  48. NEPA Says:

Yea, give this poor kid some run support for christ’s sake. Maybe this whole team needs to have a slumber party at someone’s house and watch Tom Emanski videos. Maybe it can produce back to back to back hits at least.

  49. Thom Says:

some guy on sportsline.com phillies message board is reporting that the phillies have a deal in place for erik bedard for carrasco, golson, and domic brown. The responders dont believe him it was according to the poster of the thread reported by peter gammons. i dont beileve it but im trying to find info on it if it happen.

  50. Brian Michael Says:

    ahhh!! frustrating

  51. Geoff Says:

well thats an opk deal, but i was hoping wed keep carrasco.

answer me this: if they wouldnt giv eup carrasco for CC why give him up for bedard?

i checked and was surprisewd that golson wasnt rated as one of their top 10 prospects

  52. Thom Says:

i dont know if this clown is kidding or peter gammons reported it i cant find anything but i also dont want to give up carrasco for this guy.

  53. Geoff Says:

i cant find anything, but the top two outfield prospects and the top pitching prospect for your organization

seems like a lot but maybe one of those tow guys wont pan out

  54. Thom Says:

yeh i dont think this is a serious post

  55. NEPA Says:

Yea, nothing concrete behind it at all. Thank god, don’t like the deal at all.

  56. Geoff Says:

thats a lot for a guy with question marks

the A’s got a nice haul for harden but not a ransom, same with the indians.

the indians got laporta and 2 guys i never heard of before

  57. Geoff Says:

ill bet antonio bastardo and dominic brown is more like it

  58. NEPA Says:

Happ scoreless through 5, great job.

  59. Thom Says:

i guess we have to stay tuned for something with bedard.

  60. Geoff Says:

happ has pitched well tongiht: automatically try to get rid of eaton, lol

  61. Thom Says:

yup he is better then eaton just being on the field.

  62. NEPA Says:

Well, I’m outta here boys. I turn 21 in about 3.5 hours so I’m heading to the bar a little early. Have a good one and here’s hoping the Phils can put together a W.

  63. BIG NY Says:

hey phills fans what is this bedard stuff we keep hearing on SNY something they say could happen soon

  64. Geoff Says:

nice. have a blast dude. get toasted.

  65. Mike T. Says:

THE GIDP WITH A SINGLE TO RIGHT FIELD?!? Only the 2nd time I’ve ever saw him hit the ball to the right side of the diamond.

    Drink smart, NEPA.

  66. Thom Says:

this is good we actully got something semi productive fro gidp

  67. Geoff Says:

yeah getg wasted but not sick man.

they need to teach happ how to bunt, they clearly forgot about that

  68. Geoff Says:

    holy shit jimmy did something!

  69. Thom Says:

    omfg we scored

  70. danny Says:

did you guys just hear Orel Hershiser say “Carlos Ruiz can really fly”

  71. Thom Says:

he is stupid but was a good pitcher but on espn he is really dumb in the things he says i like sutcliffe much better and he is always good comments on things.

  72. danny Says:

“With Ruiz’s speed he knew he would score on a double easily”

  73. Geoff Says:

its only on csn in my area

  74. danny Says:

I just got home and watched Ruiz single, Jimmy triple, and Orel speak. Wow.

  75. chris m Says:

    situational hitting…vic sucks at that

  76. Thom Says:

DANNY_ thats funny hey since you can see it on ESPN (NESN 2) did they mention anything about erik bedard to the phillies.

  77. danny Says:

If this team can’t squeeze with Vic hitting and Jimmy and 3rd, I dont think they ever can

  78. danny Says:

No, I havent’ heard anything, why do you ask Thom?

  79. Thom Says:

    yeh i agree

  80. Geoff Says:

they havent said anything and i cant find anything to confirm the rumors

  81. Thom Says:

some guy on sportsline reported that peter gammons reported that the phillies are close to making a trade for bedard for 3 prospects carrasco, golson and brown

  82. danny Says:

I feel like it’s a foregone conclusion that we’ll get Bedard. It’s the move, it’s obvious

  83. Thom Says:

for some reason every outlet says we are the leading contenders for him

  84. Geoff Says:

nice one howard. rbi single. nice and simple.

  85. Geoff Says:

i think we get bedard too. Maybe the phillies think bastardo is their best pitching prospect instead of carrasco?

  86. Phil Says:

You know how we’re always talking about situational hitting and also talking about how much we hate Ryan Howard? He’s one of the only guys on this team that does hit in situations like that. That batting average with 2 outs RISP says it all.

  87. Thom Says:

nice hit howard way to go vic to go home.

  88. scot Says:

if the rest of the team played as well as howard the past 2 weeks, we’d still be 5 games up on the division.

  89. Thom Says:

Howard has made strides in not looking like total shit recently. we need j-roll to step up and get good pitching we could get the ship righted.

  90. danny Says:

2 RUNS, IT’S CHRISTMAS IN JULY EVERYONE! WOW-WEE!

  91. Wilson Says:

I think Gammons was on ESPN news today and mentioned that the phillies were the front runners for Bedard with a package that may be centered around Carrasco, but ‘could include’ Golson and Brown. My roommate (a Muts fan) saw it and called me to see if I had heard anything. It’s all rumors still

  92. Phil Says:

So, if we get Bedard how are you guys going to feel about 4 lefties?

  93. Greg V. Says:

Someone buy Happ a beer and a lapdance at Risque after this performance!

  94. Thom Says:

wilson ok thank you and i like 4 lefties it can be a cool thing

  95. Tim Malcolm Says:

Finally. Happ really got a great gift there with a quick inning. He’s pitching very well.

  96. Geoff Says:

bedard will replace eaton. so yeah. ill feel uneasy about 4 lefties but thats what they have. happ 6 shutout innings 6 K’s NIIIIIIIICE

  97. Phil Says:

He struck out Ludwick and Ankiel twice each. 2nd and 3rd best hitters in the Cards line up. If he strikes out Pujols make him our #3. haha

  98. Kenny Says:

    Happ has pitched terriffic

  99. Thom Says:

4 lefties means if they go deep into a game they can go into the 7th and amybe get a lefty to begin the inning insted of using romero or swindle is still hear.

  100. Mike T. Says:

Hamels, Bedard, Kendrick, Moyer, Happ… still not doing it for me.

  101. Keith Says:

Well its offical Kris Benson is not going to help us, he got lit up for the third time tonight at AAA 4IP 7ER, now has an ERA of 11.77 in 3 starts

  102. Thom Says:

better then hamels, moyer, kendirck, eaton, happ no eaton is good enough for me

  103. Phil Says:

If we get Bedard and Myers can come back to full form, we could have a terrifying rotation with 6 pitchers to choose from.

  104. Thom Says:

yeh and that will put us in the lead for the divison lead for good.

  105. Kenny Says:

agreed…the only other thing you could do is bring up Corasco then you have no experience going down the stretch besides Moyer

  106. Geoff Says:

its better. id feel better about it if they got another outfielder and another reliver. one step at a time as long as it all gets done in 3 weeks time. but bedard has to be done today

  107. Kenny Says:

You still have Burnett out there who has some nasty nasty stuff when he is on.

  108. Geoff Says:

wel, today as in before eaton pitches again

  109. Phil Says:

I really really really hope Myers can come back and pitch to his potential. That guy could be a ridiculously solid #3 and break up our lefty core. This rotation in the post season could be pretty scary.

    Hamels
    Bedard
    Myers(pitching to his potential)
    Moyer

  110. Thom Says:

yeh if bedar pitched like he did for the most part in baltimore we should do fine as long as he never faces the yankees were good they lit him up a few times.

  111. danny Says:

I would feel great about a rotation of Hamels, Bedard, Moyer, Kendrick, Happ.

Happ is pitching brilliantly. How much more fun is this to watch than Myers or Eaton?

  112. Wilson Says:

No problem, I jumped the gun when I heard about too and came home to watch an hour and a half of espn until the segment reran. I don’t mind the four lefties that much. I am, however, uneasy about pulling a trigger on a deal for Bedard that involves even two out the three names rumored. Especially if the lineup continues to not produce, Bedard could get here and pitch excellently and still lose (kinda like Hamels has done this year) and we still don’t win the division. They all need a swift kick in the ass

  113. Phil Says:

I’d rather have Bedard than Burnett. Burnett just seems like another Brett Myers. We don’t need 2 headcases having fun in the minor leagues, plus Burnett’s contract is really dumb and I’d rather not deal with it.

  114. danny Says:

Why does it matter if we have 4 lefty starters? They’re starters… it doesn’t much matter, right?

  115. Kenny Says:

question….if you go after somebody like Nady, how does that help your lineup when you would then have two right handed right fielders? or do you think Werth is getting more playing time to “showcase” and be able to use him as bait for a trade?

  116. Thom Says:

Happ was he ever a top prospect at anytime

  117. Geoff Says:

Bedard is a nice guy compared to burnett. i heard burnett is a jackass and a half.

i like watching happ pitch when he has his control in order. he has good stuff. better stuff than eaton has.

  118. Phil Says:

For the record, if we do get Bedard, Eaton will still be our #5. Charlie Manuel is a moron and won’t keep Happ up here if we get Bedard.

  119. danny Says:

Orel just called it an ugly shutout.

  120. Phil Says:

Happ needs to come out. He’s pitched great. Give him a standing ovation.

  121. Geoff Says:

no way phil. its TOO obvoius. eaton is worthless. scrap heap garebage.

happ better to have there than eaton because eaton can only get worse, happ can get better same as kendrick.

    happ will comje out now

  122. Kenny Says:

that was an absolute pleasure to watch

  123. Thom Says:

happ did good tonight. i like him could he be a second kendrick.

  124. Geoff Says:

lets get the hold here. get some run support and give happ his first career major leagu ewin.

  125. Greg V. Says:

Nice to see Happ get an ovation! Damn fine outing from him tonight!

  126. Phil Says:

Happ rules. He looks like a scared little boy. I can’t wait to see what kind of stuff that guy will have once he develops up here. Once he loosens up he might be nasty.

  127. Geoff Says:

it was very enjoyable and positive to watch. looks like he figured it out this year. i think he can improve his control a bit more. if he does that it allows him to go another inning. hell improve and hes worth keeping in this rotation this year and next year. obviously hell go to the pen in the playoffs is that comes to be. but i like his stuff and his potential. late bloomer i guess.

  128. Geoff Says:

its time to get the junk (Eaton, now) out of the rotation.

its also time in the offseason to get the old man to retire, at age 46 for moyer.

  129. Phil Says:

This is a scary situation. Man on 2nd and 3rd. 1 out. 3-0 count. Pujols up next…

  130. Greg V. Says:

For those concerned about the lefty deal, that is kind of why I thought it would be interesting if we tried for Maddux (though he does have a no trade clause). If our bats are up to par, they could give The Professor the proper run support. He does want to be on contending team.

  131. Phil Says:

    Shit, bases loaded Pujols…

  132. Greg V. Says:

I can’t watch! Bases loaded for Pujoles! NO!

  133. Geoff Says:

shit. come up durbin man up now

  134. Kenny Says:

we need a 6-4-3 deal here

  135. Thom Says:

Finally we get a good start from a home grown player not named hamels and kendrick cause mathieson and the list goes on suck.

  136. Kenny Says:

ill take that good pitch durbin

  137. Phil Says:

Thom, I think Mathieson had potential, he just suffered from injuries. He still might mount a come back.

  138. Kenny Says:

mathieson has potential but he can not stay healthy…that kid can throw…i was a spring training a couple years ago and he was lighting up the radar gun

  139. Thom Says:

is he still in the orgaization

  140. Kenny Says:

    60 day dl

  141. danny Says:

I just listened to the Bedard interview with Missaneli.

Man, I miss Philly talk radio since I moved. Awesome interview.

  142. Phil Says:

Yeah, he is. He had a TJ surgery.

  143. danny Says:

Where’s Joe Durbin at? Joe, we need your boy to come through here.

  144. Geoff Says:

missanelli is putting howard eskin out of business. he has the same time slot as howard. its awesome.

  145. Phil Says:

Danny, where can you listen to the interview?

  146. Greg V. Says:

Yeah Mathieson is still with the Phillies. He is out for the year though.

  147. danny Says:

    http://www.950espn.com/Audio/tabid/183/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/1464/Seattle-Mariners-Pitcher-Erik-Bedard.aspx

  148. danny Says:

Bedard just sounds like a shy, quiet dude.

  149. Thom Says:

thanks i thought he was gone that is what made me say he was a bust. I think espn 950 website has podcast of interviews

  150. Greg V. Says:

Well that was pretty much the second to the last thing I wanted to see

  151. danny Says:

Nice hit by Glaus there. Ya gotta hand it to him. 0-21 before that hit, HAHAHAH

  152. Phil Says:

BOO!!! Happ doesn’t win his 1st game. :(

  153. Kenny Says:

    shit…happ deserved to win that

  154. danny Says:

I miss Eskin and Missanelli. Not Gargano so much…

  155. Phil Says:

This is getting scary. This bullpen needs a rest.

  156. Thom Says:

the pen is blowing up but the ASB will help rest these guys.

  157. danny Says:

I would drive Carrasco to Seattle for him.

  158. Phil Says:

If Durbin walks in the tying run I’m going to be very upset.

  159. Phil Says:

Yeah, that’s what I meant by the rest. haha They need to crawl into the ASB in 1st still. They are a 2nd half team.

  160. Kenny Says:

we are finding ways to lose games instead of win them…where is the edge

  161. MIKE FLO Says:

there 2nd half schedule is horrible compared to the mets

  162. danny Says:

    Great work Chad… sweet deal.

  163. NJ Says:

We’re in this position again because the offense has been anemic yet again. Outside of two short little spurts of production there’s been nothing so again we run the bullpen into the ground instead of giving them a chance to pitch in a comfort zone.

  164. Phil Says:

Not only did Happ not get the win, but he doesn’t have that sexy sub 2 ERA anymore. haha

  165. Joe Durbin Says:

    I could hardly watch!

  166. Greg V. Says:

Does anyone have any good suggestions for blood pressure meds? I need some after that!

  167. NJ Says:

Yes watch the game from the UK like me and you’ll be too tired to feel the full impact of an implosion…

  168. danny Says:

Shouldn’t one of our homerun hitters put one out here? That should happen. That’s the thing to do here.

  169. Phil Says:

I just listened. If he can give 7 solid innings every time out there that’ll be fine. Not every pitcher is Cole Hamels and will throw 200 pitches if you let him. 7 innings 2 runs every time out should be fine. I’m really excited for the shake up. I think he’ll be in a Phillies uniform after the ASB.

  170. Phil Says:

WHY THE FUCK IS CONDREY IN THERE IN THE 8TH INNING WITH A TIE GAME!!! IS MANUEL RETARDED?!?! WAIT HE IS I FORGOT!!!

  171. Greg V. Says:

Clay Condrey in a tie game? You gotta be kidding me!

  172. Phil Says:

    Whoa, he struck someone out.

  173. NJ Says:

Condrey in a tight game… Getting nervous now…

  174. danny Says:

    CC is unhittable!

  175. Phil Says:

Wow, Condrey struck out 2 guys. Give him the Ashburn Award for just doing something you could never imagine him doing.

  176. Greg V. Says:

Watch him load the bases now

  177. Thom Says:

crap we blew it for happ and condreys in cause the pen has loged alot of innings recently

  178. Phil Says:

    HOLY SHIT!!!

  179. Greg V. Says:

Attaboy Clay! Sorry for doubting you!

  180. Thom Says:

Durbin goes 2.1, 2.0 every outing it seems and romero pitched everyday and they need a little break to get fresh again

  181. Keith Says:

great inning by condrey, i know it wasnt pujols and ludwick but he still did a good job

  182. Geoff Says:

did i just see that? clay condrey just struck out the side in the 8th innings in a tied game? wow

  183. Joshua Says:

just an update, the mets are about to win again, 5-0 in the top of the 9th w/ 2 outs.

  184. MIKE FLO Says:

    METS WIN

  185. Joshua Says:

and the mets win, now have a 5 game win streak, back to back shut outs, johan finally gets his win, lol, and they are now 3 games over .500 and 1 game behind the phillies, .5 if the phillies lose.

  186. Phil Says:

THERE IT GOES!!! 80 RBIs before the ASB!!!

  187. danny Says:

    YES!

  188. Keith Says:

Howard is going to have an amazing 2nd half

  189. danny Says:

Finally we are rescued my the homer!

  190. NJ Says:

Jekyl and Hyde… Think we’ve seen got the better half tonight

  191. scot Says:

great piece of situational hitting in a late and close game by the nl rbi leader.

  192. Greg V. Says:

Howard with a clutch homer at 0-2! LET’S HERE IT!

  193. harry Says:

howard just blasted one. i think he is heating up at the right time. now lidge has to go earn that money.

  194. NJ Says:

Thats not situational so much as Ryan being Ryan… When he’s up with a tie game and the bases empty he’s swinging

  195. Phil Says:

Wow, they scored Santana some runs.

  196. Phil Says:

I agree, this is a 2nd half team, and Howard is a 2nd half player. Guy is going to go on a tear after the ASB.

  197. Joshua Says:

Greg V. the word is “hear” …”here” is an adverb that means a location, “hear” is a verb that means a sound

also, thanks for putting it in caps so it was easily noticable

  198. Joshua Says:

Phil,. he will also strikeout 200 times

  199. Phil Says:

    FELIZ!!! SECURITY RUN!!!! FUCK YEAH!!!!

  200. Greg V. Says:

    YEAH PEDRO!!!!!!!!

  201. Geoff Says:

    pete happy!

  202. Keith Says:

    way to go Pete happy

  203. Phil Says:

That’s fine Joshua, and you’d take Delgado over him you tool?

  204. MIKE FLO Says:

just like yanks teams of years past…will hit tons of homeruns now in the regular season and then come the playoffs against good pitching it will be one series and done

  205. Greg V. Says:

Fuck you Joshua. Haven’t you ever made a typo?

  206. Geoff Says:

hack wilson holds the mlb single season rbi record with 191. wow. in like the 30s.

  207. Mike W. Says:

How many times in history has a player led a league in home runs and RBI by the all star break, and not been an all star?

  208. Phil Says:

Probably 0, but Berkman is having a monster year, and Pujols is the best player in the NL. You can’t really argue that. Pads need a representative too, that’s why Gonzales made it over Howard.

  209. NJ Says:

for a long time it was 190… Not long back a baseball fanatic found another RBI for Hack to take it up to 191

  210. Geoff Says:

thats an impressive record 191 rbi in one year. 80 rbi is a lot for july and hes on pace for likk 140-150 rbi is he keeps up the pace.

    but 191? damn.

  211. Geoff Says:

nice. thye foun d another one. lou gehrig is next with 184

  212. MIKE FLO Says:

No gonzalez made it bc hes batting 281 with 22 homeruns and 70 rbis…..not batting a shitty 220. like howard

  213. Joshua Says:

well, howard IS on pace to strike out 200 times he already has the record for season high K’s and he is on pace to beat that.

Delgado, I don’t like him, however. He went 3-4 tonite, 2-3 yesterday, 2-5 the day before (against the phils), 1-5 w/ walk, the day before that, and 2-5 the day before that..actually if you been watching the mets lately, it looks like he’s been warming up himself.

  214. scot Says:

mike w, howard is not an all star cause none of his rbi’s are in late and close games, and he’s a terrible “situation” hitter. oh, and anyone could have howard’s rbi totals in this lineup. that’s why.

  215. Phil Says:

That .281 avg would be nice if he had a guy like Burrell batting behind him and not someone shitty like Khalil Green or whoever it might be.

  216. danny Says:

What an at bat by Schumaker, Holy Schnikes

  217. NJ Says:

Gonzo made it as a Padre was needed, rules are rules

  218. Phil Says:

Um, how is Howard a terrible situational hitter? A .350 BA with 2 outs and RISP isn’t situational? I would like to see how many of them are singles too.

  219. MIKE FLO Says:

that makes no sense Phil….By what your saying then teams would just pitch around Gonzalez and pitch to shitty khalil green…

  220. Keith Says:

Hey Howard is batting 230 now and has a 12 game hitting streak best all year and another thing I just looked at is he does have a higher strike out % with nobody on base then runners on and with RISP and 2 out batting 345

  221. Phil Says:

I would love to see Lidge strike out Pujols so bad.

  222. Mike W. Says:

Hey A-holes, go back and look at my post. At what point did I say Howard should be an all star?? Never. I’m just saying we might be witnessing the first time in history this situation has come up.

  223. Phil Says:

Keith it was .345 going into tonights game. I’m sure it’s around .350 now.

  224. Brian Michael Says:

    good enough

  225. Phil Says:

    haha take that Pujols.

  226. Greg V. Says:

I so didn’t need to see a clip of that home run!

  227. Keith Says:

yea probably cuz he did that get that one RBI single with 2 out

  228. scot Says:

i was being sarcastic, if it makes you feel better mike.

  229. danny Says:

Lidge is so nasty, I love that he comes up and in on Glaus, frickin sweet!

  230. Phil Says:

How are people still hating on Howard? He’s been the only guy doing anything in this line up for the past couple of weeks.

  231. Geoff Says:

he has 80 rbis he isnt even a problem right now. there are so many more pressing needs for this team.

  232. Geoff Says:

and hes tied for NL lead in HRs like hes supposed to be

  233. scot Says:

it’s philly fans, phil. your guess is as good as mine.

  234. NJ Says:

Howard takes slack because a guy of that calibre needs to be a leader and he pure and simple hasn’t been.

  235. danny Says:

Pujols is a hell of a story.

  236. Phil Says:

I understand he is the most one dimensional player ever, but give the guy a break. He’s had to have had close to 40 RBI’s in the past month.

  237. Keith Says:

yea he is hitting like 340 so far in july and slugging 700

  238. Phil Says:

Howard isn’t a leader type. He gets paid to drive in runs and that’s it.

  239. Geoff Says:

look at that patience and that at bat by glaus. if rolllins and victorino did this wed be 8 games up right now.

  240. danny Says:

People hate on Howard because they want him to be Pujols

  241. Keith Says:

    34 RBIs since June 8th

  242. danny Says:

Hahaha Geoff, you’re so right! Instead Rollins and Vic hit like Ankiel.

  243. Phil Says:

Told you close to 40…34 RBI’s in a month is ridiculous.

  244. Keith Says:

Lidge should just keep throwing them those sliders in the dirt

  245. Phil Says:

    YES!!!

  246. Greg V. Says:

Your the man Lidge! Gotta love that slider!

  247. Geoff Says:

    yes. ankiel looked silly.

  248. scot Says:

    hot damn.

  249. Greg V. Says:

Oh I’m sorry, if that prick Joshua is watching, I meant “You’re the man Lidge”

  250. Geoff Says:

so JA Happ is the stopper here this time around…

  251. Phil Says:

So, who gets the Asburn award, Howard, Happ…or Condrey? haha jk about Condrey.

  252. Joshua Says:

Im glad you guys got your moment of joy, you just saved yourselves from losing another game in the standings, lol.

  253. Keith Says:

something like 68 RBIs in his last 63-65 games

  254. Greg V. Says:

Enjoyed this one a lot. It was great to see Happ have a great major league outing, and even better to see the bats come through. That was a trademark home run from Howard and hopefully the one that turns it around! Great game!

  255. Phil Says:

Joshua, is it gratifying that you are such a loser that you troll on a Phillies blog? If I were that big of a loser I’d consider suicide.

  256. Greg V. Says:

Condrey got the Ashburn Award! I love it! He did pitch the best inning of the game!

  257. Greg V. Says:

Lots of mustache rides in the Bronx tonight it looks like! OH!

  258. Phil Says:

haha that is the only time Clay Condrey will ever get the Ashburn award.

  259. philsphan Says:

Condrey always pitches well in close games and terrible in blow outs. I have no idea why though.

  260. Phillie Phan Phrom Aphar Says:

EVERYONE PAY ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pat needs our help!! Get off of the DAMN chat lines like little girls and VOTE VOTE VOTE!! Im over 1500 votes right now by myself. If just half of you gave half that many votes, Hed be n the lead right now! For 15 Hrs PROVE YOUR FANHOOD AND JOIN ME!!!! Im out

  261. Groty Says:

This Bedard rumor is killing me. Golson and Carrasco?! I was hoping Golson would get a second half call up when Taguchi goes on the DL for a bench splinter in the arse.

  262. dan Says:

Imagine it though. If we want a championship, Bedard could certainly be the missing piece. Hamels, Bedard, Moyer, Kendrick, and Happ. See ya, pitching woes!

  263. Phil Says:

Everyone keeps forgetting the possibility of Myers having a triumphant come back. I know it’s a long shot, but if Myers pitches to his potential we’d have a really good 1-2-3 punch going into the post season.

  264. ryan Says:

does anybody else think that steve phillips is the biggest d-bag you’ve ever heard in your life? every time i watch baseball tonight the guy is saying something that is so stupid it’s hilarious. him and chris wheeler are the two people i hate most in all of baseball.

  265. Josh Says:

I just felt a Phillies fan named Josh should chime in here. Nice to finally see a win here. Now how about we split the season series with them tomorrow. While we’re here, can someone explain to me how the fuck Wagner is an all-star?

  266. Phil Says:

Did anyone happen to catch toyota sports night tonight? I’m curious to what is on Charlie Manuel’s wish list. They said it wasn’t a starting pitcher.

  267. nate Says:

howard with the number 1 web gem on baseball tonight…. well half of it at least

  268. Phillie Phan Phrom Aphar Says:

I just checked back after my 5th session today. Look at the F’n Blog you are on people! First line says “First off, VOTE BURELL!” You call yourself Phillies fans? If thats the case then I am ashamed to call myself a Phillies fan

  269. Amanda Says:

i saw sports night, charlie was saying he wants another hitter in the lineup

  270. Phillie Phan Phrom Aphar Says:

I am Amazed!! Am I an F’n ghost???? U all r most definately worse fans than Mets Fans!!!! Go F urselfs! If I was ‘The Bat’, I would leave in a heartbeat. I love Pat but no one in Philly gives a shit about him. Just don’t dog him when he goes somewhere else! I guarantee the Brewers & the Mets fans care more. I am disgusted right now 4 real

  271. NEPA Says:

Sorry I haven’t been around tonight. Watched the last few innings at he bar and had no internet access. Happ looked great, Howard is set for a big time second half. Let’s finish out the first half strong.

  272. Clare Says:

Woooo I was there! Happ got a verrrry hefty standing ovation which I’m sure was already mentioned.

  273. Phil Says:

    Thanks Amanda

    Phillie Phan Phrom Aphar…shut up.

  274. Truth Hurts Says:

Greg, “Addicting” isn’t a real word.
