Happ Optioned To AAA

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Thu, July 10, 2008 06:59 PM

JA Happ pitched into the seventh inning Wednesday night, earning deserved praise from everyone for his poise and his stuff. But now Happ will have to find praise back in Allentown — Happ was optioned to AAA Lehigh Valley today.

Happ was 0-0 with a 3.27 ERA in 11 innings — two starts. In his place comes Mike Cervenak, an infielder who is hitting .310 with 7 HR and 52 RBI this season with the IronPigs.

But don’t worry, guys. It’s more than likely Happ was sent back down to get a couple starts in. According to Charlie Manuel, Happ wouldn’t get another turn until July 22 or 23. It’s probably better that Happ gets some work in and not sit on the bullpen pine. Cervenak provides a nice change of pace for the offense, but why not bring up a reliever to help the ailing bullpen for the final three games?

By the way, you can still give Happ a nickname here.

nice picture. i think he will be back on that 22nd/23rd date. ill bet adam eaton isnt around by then. i kind of think hell be allowed to start one more time. then theyll spend the next few weeks figuring out what to do with him and how to get rid of him. you can say it sounds crazy but with them bringing in a number two starter and myers potentially coming back “fixed” i dont see a place for eaton in the rotation. teams are desperate and someone will take him especiall if the phillies pay hi to go away or trade him as part of something for a cheap bat that charlie asked for. if hes terrible again, even if he isnt, hes done. now way hes on this team next season so ill say hes gone soon.

if im wrong, so be it, but it makes too much sense to keep this douche around to eat up money and roster space.

    happ will be back

How many options does Happ have left?
Hopefully they do not play the game of up this week and down the next, because they will lose him to another team and be screwed again.

  7. Geoff Says:

To lose this guy would be a cardinal sports sin. i HATE losing young mlb-capable pitching. he has good stuff and he belongs in the rotation more than adam eaton does. hes really pitched well. i think theyre trying to get rid of eaton so they can make room for him. then the other spot will be filled by whoever they trade for.

wow the long lost third Durbin brother has finally surfaced! seperated at birth, Chad, J.D. (the real deal) and now, Joe!
