Phils Hang With Webb, Win Late
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Sun, July 13, 2008 07:43 PM
The Phillies closed out the first half of the 2008 season with a 6-3 win, beating the Diamondbacks via a rope-a-dope style of play. They bobbed and weaved against Arizona ace Brandon Webb, scratching out runs to tie the score. Then they pounced, and it was lethal. The win keeps the Phils ahead of the cavalry in the National League East as the break comes in.
Pat Burrell provided the big blow, a low-ball blast to left field that gave the Phils a 5-2 lead. Pedro “Geico” Feliz provided the extra run via a homer to left. Brad Lidge held on to end the game despite letting up a run during a long inning.
The win went to Ryan Madson, who pitched a seamless eighth. Cole Hamels went the first seven, and while he wasn’t anything dominant, he skipped out of trouble and was helped by some poor Diamondback decisions (though Ryan Howard made a dynamite play to prevent the run from scoring). More than anything, you have to feel for Webb, whose team didn’t give him a chance to score his 14th win.
Jimmy Rollins and Hamels each had big RBI doubles off Webb. But once he was out of the game, it was like taking candy from a Qualls.
The Phils end the first half at 52-44. Not bad. Not overwhelmingly great or anything, but not bad.

solid win, now we don’t have to hear endless Muts garbage at the all-star game.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
Was at the game today. Amazing game. I’m 4-0 on the season so far and have tickets for at least 4 more games. I should have just went to all 162 with this luck.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
did you see how low the pitch that Pat hit was? The guy has tremendous power. Resign Pat!
July 13th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
I posted this in the other thread. I figured I’d repost in this thread in case people don’t go back to the old thread so here’s my novel and assessment on the Philles 1st half, what needs to be done the 2nd half, excitement about the Phillies phuture, and some critique towards 2 things other posters said.
Well, I have a lot to say. 1st of all I missed the game, but listened to most of it on the radio. I did catch the 1st 4 innings of the futures game. though, so I’ll start with that.
Marson looked awesome behind the plate. Marson looked good at the plate. I couldn’t gauge Donald. He did throw that ball away, but that was just him trying to show boat in front of scouts. Stupid move, but I’m not going to say he’s bad by that. Carrasco looked filthy. Filthy fastball that had a SHIT LOAD of movement on it. His curve ball and slider were nasty too. I am so fucking excited for them to come play the game in a Phillies uniform. How did Golson do, and how I only saw one at bat by Marson and Donald. Did anyone see if they got any hits?
Geoff, I agree with you almost all of the time on this site, but I really think you need to lay off of Victorino and Moyer. Victorino has been fairly consistent this year. If you want to point fingers point them at Rollins and Utley. I hate to even mention Utley’s name, but recently he has not been stepping up. He had that long 0fer, and he’s gone like 2-30 in with RISP lately. He’s been really streaky. As for Moyer…how can you say anything bad about that guy? He’s pitching amazing, and he’s 45. You’d really take Carrasco, Happ, or Kendrick into the post season over Moyer? He’s got a sub 4.0 ERA. I agree he’s not a 2 or 3 pitcher, but the guy is still solid. The only reason I say he’s not a 3 or 4 is because I don’t know if he can continue this pace, or if he might break down or not. Give the guy a little more credit.
Phils Phan. How can you hate Feliz? Would you rather have Nunez? Nunez was a great 3B, but not as good as Feliz. Nunez also couldn’t hit a watermelon, and yet noone cared because of his D. Feliz is the 3rd best 3B we’ve had in the past 35+ years. He will have 20+ homers 80+ RBI’s. He’ll hit .270. He’s having a good year. Not great, not bad, but good. Give him some credit, especially for his glove.
As for today’s game. I didn’t get to watch it, but I listened in the car. We almost got in an accident because my friend and I were freaking out when Burrell hit his homer. That must have been glorifying. Hamels seemed to be shaky today, but got through it. This will bring me to my final point…Ruiz.
Ruiz is horrible at the plate. He mind as well just not swing with RISP so that there is no way he can GIDP. It’s horrible. At least give the pitcher a chance because the pitcher has a better shot. The thing about Ruiz is that you can’t knock his game calling skills. Hamels was shaky today BECAUSE RUIZ DIDN’T START!!! We have a better record with Ruiz starting than when Coste starts. Ruiz has the lowest ERA for his pitchers than any other catcher in baseball. THAT’S INSANE! We have a mediocre rotation too. Every pitcher that starts for the Phillies have all said the same thing in interviews about Ruiz(other than Moyer), that they love Ruiz behind the plate. They said that he makes them better. The reason I don’t think it matters for Moyer is because something tells me he mostly calls his own game.
We need to do something about a starter during the all-star break. I am sick of this unknowing shit. I want something to happen. If Myers can come back and pitch to his potential and we trade for someone really good, then this pitching staff can be really good.
Hamels
#2
Myers
Moyer
Kendrick
Something needs to be done about Eaton, So, and Jenkins. I don’t care what you trade them for and how much of their salary you have to eat. WERTH IS THE EVERY DAY RIGHT FIELDER!!! What will it take Manuel to realize that? I understand he’s a stroke victim, but how can it make you that dumb?
If these problems can all be address this team should have a monster 2nd half. They’re a 2nd half team. Utley and Rollins need to step it up. Everyone else is doing their job. Victorino, Werth, Feliz, Coste, Dobbs, Moyer, and Kendrick are all having solid years. Hamels, Burrell, and the bullpen are all having great years. Utley and Rollins are streaky and need to be more consistent. If they can play to their potential the 2nd half this team should be ridiculous. Utley will not wint the MVP if he doesn’t play to his potential the 2nd half. Ryan Howard has been ridiculous the past 1 and a 1/2 months. If he can continue his production along with everyone else that is producing well continuing and Utley and Rollins stepping up, this team should have no problem winning the division.
It’s great to be in 1st going into the ASB. They deserve it. They need to spend the week recouping. I kind of wish that Utley and Lidge didn’t go to the ASG. I’d rather them all spend the time resting and practicing. They need that bad. This team should win the division and has potential for more.
GO PHILS!
July 13th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
Hah, I’ll have to avoid your games, Gnomicide, in case I jinx that. I think I’m something like 0-5 this year, including two shutouts against Hamels. I’m starting to think I should just ban myself for the good of the team. By the way, I don’t know where that “Geico” nickname came from (I’m guessing the thread during the game?), but it’s brilliant. He certainly does love tacking on those insurance runs late.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
completely agree Phil. Why not make Ruiz bat 9th and make the pitcher bat 8th. Every one of the Phils pitchers are better hitters than Ruiz.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
That is one thing I love about Feliz. He doesn’t ever have the clutch hits to tie the game or get the lead(sometimes he does but rarely), but he does give you some insurance runs if you’re up by 2 or 3. I stopped going because I keep watching them lose too Josh. It’s sad too. I was gonna go today, glad I didn’t because they would have lost. My friend always loses when he watches, which is rarely because of his work schedule, but I told him he isn’t allowed to watch the games anymore. haha
July 13th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
Where is the NYC pimp now
July 13th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Oh great just great. the muts go up 3-0 on the rockies.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
METS BITCHES THANKS GLHF
July 13th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
muts up 4-0 on the rockies
July 13th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
Phil. That was the longest post in the history of blogging.
Mark Redman is worse than Adam Eaton. Ouch.
I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Adam Eaton is struggling with staying out of the big inning this career……I mean year.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
they should resign burrell because golsons showing prompted me to research his numbers. my opinion of him has changed a bit. hes great in the field for sure, but im concerned that his strikeout rate will not translate well to mlb action. despite his batting average this year he has a lot of strikeouts.
id actually be ok with them shipping golson off for AJ Burnett.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
yes, theyre thin in the outfield, but i think resigning pat burrell will allow them time to build an outfield over time. time to get geoff jenkins out of here, and time to teach shane victorino how to act like an adult, time to bring in a free agent who doesnt suck or trade for someone who doesnt suck.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Why not bring golson up and send down or release So.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
mark redman is the new flagbearer for junkpile garbage pitching. he might be the worst starter in MLB, not sure, but itd be hard to find one worse.
i think that eatons done in the rotation, they might even spot start carlos carrasco to give brett myers more time while JA happ holds down the fort.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
golson is better defensively than So, so yeah, despire his shakiness at the plate hes an upgrade in the field.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
all complaining aside, im impressed they were able to hang in against webb long enough to allow hamels to cancel him out.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Eaton gets more money than Utley of Lidge? Wow
July 13th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
I wouldn’t put much into the Mets beating the Rockies. The Rockies suck.
Now, here’s hoping Atkins gets antsy, the front office gets trade-happy, or something similar. I’d like to see him in pinstripes.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
I want to take this oppurtunity to aplogize to Phillies Nation. Chad Durbin’s dad told me about this blog and I heard that many of you are angry with my son.
Back when Adam was just a youngster, he was a great synchonized swimmer. One time while we were practicing I dunked him and held his face under the water. He cried like a little vagina. I was ashamed. He quit synchonized swimming all together. It was tragic.
But then we found out he had a “live” arm. Although he has no idea how to pitch or what the hell he’s doing, his coaches always kept sending him out there. He only won 1 game in high school and that was a forfeit when the local school for the deaf and blind’s bus broke down.
I’m not surprised by his poor career. I cant believe that Gillick guy paid him 24 mill. Hahaha. Thats unbelievable. Anyway, i want to apologize. If I hadnt of dunked him he would be in Beijing right now practicing for his 3rd gold medal in synchronized aquatic dance.
He told me that he will refuse assignment to AAA, so I guess we’ll just have to get used to each other.
If you want to email me here’s the address.

July 13th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
haha I really wish that was Adam Eaton’s dad. I actually think that the guy that says he’s Durbin’s dad is Durbin’s dad.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Yeah I really do think its his dad. I believe it.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Me too. He’s a nice guy and he’s knowledgeable. I should tell him I want an autographed ball.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Durbins dad I mean
July 13th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Dear Mr. Durbin. Can you please ask email me at omgitsf1lpratt@gmail.com and tell me yes or no if there’s a way to get an autographed ball from your son who’s the best right handed bullpen pitcher in baseball? Also, can you give him my condolences about getting snubbed from the ASG like the rest of the Phillies. MARMOL!?!?!?! If you want to keep it a relief pitcher since Wood is gone, WHY THE FUCK WOULD THEY TAKE MARMOL OVER DURBIN!? Tell him to enjoy his all-star break and to recoup for the 2nd half.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Marmol is overrated. He had a good start but hes come back to earth. Hes good but not an all star.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Boy this colorado team is a bunch of gutless, heartless punks.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
Only players on that team I respect are Helton who is pushing 40, Holliday, and Atkins.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
Yeah I thought their pitching is WAY overrated. Theyve all crashed this year. The Phillies choked hardcore last year. THis team im watching now isnt close to the same WS team from last year. They are total garbage and its mostly the same team!
July 13th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Totally heartless… who loses 3 in a row to the Mets?
July 13th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
phil you’re dead on with your comments. the ruiz situation is a double edged sword because of his defense and ability to call a game. in all honesty i’m completely sick of him on the team but i can’t see anything else happening other than a platoon with him and coste for the rest of the year.
the starting pitching situation will be interesting in the second half. i’m looking forward to seeing what happ can do. he has potential, he’s 25, if they’re going to give him a chance to prove he’s a major league pitcher, this is the season to do it. i have a feeling that if and when gillick trades for someone, it’s going to be a name that surprises people. maybe it’ll be burnett, but if i had to guess i’d say it won’t be.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
If that business with them not liking Burnett is actually true then theyll definitely do somehting out of left field. I doubt theyll be able to afford to wait for bedard to be healthy. By the time bedard gets back his price will skyrocket.
If its a smokescreen though then burnett is their guy.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Oswalt, Harang, and Bedard are all on the DL now. That really fucks us. I think we’ll make a run at Greinke. I really do. Halladay is a free agent after the 2009 season. Maybe that’s a secret in the works. Wishful thinking, but you never know. I’d give up everyone but Carrasco and Marson for Halladay.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Yeah I wish we could get roy halladay. That would RULE. We should get dejesus with grienke if we make a run at him however, youre talking unloading the farm for that guy unless the untouchables arent moved.
July 13th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
I have no problem unloading the farm so long as it’s not Marson or Carrasco. Our outfield can be Werth, DeJesus, and Victorino next year. We don’t need Golson. We have Utley and Rollins blocking Donald and Cardenas. We’re fine.
July 13th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Carrasco and Marson CANNOT be moved. Im glad the phillies have made that clear.
July 13th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
I agree that Carrasco and Marson are untouchable, but if we want Halladay (if he is available which I doubt) we would probably have to give up at least one.
July 13th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
Nope. I would give up my left nut for the organization before I let them give up Marson or Carrasco.
July 13th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
Cardenas was bumped up from like prospect #76 in all of MiLB to 23rd in BP latest report. Thats ahead of Max Scherzer/ARI. He should be a good chip.
July 13th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Wouldnt worry about that dilemma because roy halladay isnt available.
July 13th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
yeah he could be useful in a deal. i liked scherzer when we faced him. he has great potential as well.
July 13th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Runshouse – The Phillies lost three in a row to the Mets you fuckin retard,
July 13th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
The Mets won…here come the trolls.
July 13th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
Mike Pelfrey shut out the rockies. Haha. matt holliday is a FRAUD..
July 13th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
The brewers have total new life now that CC is there. theyre a danerous team now. I have tickets to one of the games in the series when they come here, I hope its the sabathia game.
July 13th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
time lincecum is 11-2, DAMN
July 13th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
Geoff: Rockies swept the Phillies in the playoffs. Haha. Phillies are a fraud.
July 13th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Of course they are. They need like 3 moves before theyre legit contenders.
July 13th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Pelfrey is pitching to his potential now. Holliday isn’t a fraud.
July 13th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
RiVLez… That is precisely why I, as a METS FAN mentioned it.
Try and keep up lil’ shaver.
July 14th, 2008 at 12:21 am
People in here are under estimating the Mets…They are tied in the loss column..TIED!! Everyone was writing them off after there miserable start..Phils are in 1st place for now….. Yeah they just swept the Giants and the Rockies two bad teams….but they Beat Lincecum and Cook whom both have won 10 games. Also, they did well in interleague…going 3-2 against the Angels…3-2 against Texas…4-2 against the Yanks…Seattle was the only blip, not to mention going 7-3 against the Phils……..
July 14th, 2008 at 12:24 am
i still think the mets are playing over there heads. wait till reyes has a temper tantram, wagner starts running his mouth again and beltran says there the team to beat. then mets fans will be trying to get jerry manuel fired next.
July 14th, 2008 at 2:03 am
It’s time to give Pat a contract extension…It’ll be a big blow if we lose him to free agency.
July 14th, 2008 at 8:16 am
I’m reversing an earlier position. I’m now worried about the Mets.
I was hoping they’d hang on to Randolph a good bit longer so they could sink even lower — so low that it wouldn’t matter. But they’ve won 9 straight. Their Manuel seems to have found a light switch somewhere that has made the team relaxed and ready to play. Their rotation is serviceable, their bullpen is decent, their lineup has the horses to get it done in a weak NL division.
And when it comes to technical, in-game baseball decisions, their Manuel is better than our Manuel.
We’re in for a dogfight the rest of the year, gang. Let’s hope Gillick and Co. make the moves (Barry Bonds, another pitcher, bullpen help for our aging, tired guys, Adam Eaton gone, J.A. Happ at least temporarily in the rotation) to keep loaded up for the stretch run.
Phil, I like your assessment. Where are you on the Bonds idea?
July 14th, 2008 at 11:52 am
I know this is basic math, but I just sat and thought about it for the first time..
If we play .500 for the rest of the way.. we’ll end up: 85-77 …
If we play .542 (their current Winning%), we’ll end up with 87.8 wins, or 88-74
I don’t know that 85 wins gets you even the Wild Card this year.. 88 probably would get you to the post-season.. but they really have to shoot for 90 wins, or 38 wins out of their remaing 66 games. They NEED to do something about their pitching, I think they’ve been lucky all year with their bullpen..and I don’t know if they can keep that up.
Ruiz (who gets BASHED on here) has the lowest thrown-to-ERA of all catchers in the NL (and I think in MLB?)… We’ll need Rollins and Victorino to produce if we want to have any chance of the post-season baseball we loved last year!
July 14th, 2008 at 11:58 am
Rollins played well yesterday, the way he opened the game in the first inning was exactly what we need from him. Get on, get over to third ASAP. Thats what he needs to return to in the second half. hes a dominant, effective leadoff hitter when he is in focused, patient attack mode.
The pitching has basically sputtered into the break now. The bullpen is beat, they need fresh arms and a break. The starters need fresh arms and a break too. Eaton cant be in there come next week. Just, no, bad. JA Happ has earned that spot over Eaton. He might lose his spot again if Myers comes back and is awesome AND if they go and trade for someone. Short of both of those happening, Happ is in the second half rotation.
July 14th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Morning guys. I see another Muts troll made it on here this morning fresh off a win against the inept group commonly known as Hurdle’s Homo’s. That’s like bragging about beating the Dolphins.
July 14th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Lewisauce I am all about Bonds. It won’t happen though. Gillick said he doesn’t want to be part of the circus that surrounds him.
July 14th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Realistically, Gillick is now looking for a 2nd tier pitcher as list of available quality (and healthy) pitchers dwindles. On my wishlist there is one I most coveted but can’t see LA Dodgers giving him up as long as they are in contention. Derek Lowe is in his contract year ($9.5 million) and his agent, Scott Boras, will likely seek at least 3 years at $12-$13 million per year for him during the off season.
Lowe, with an ERA less than 4, is a durable inning eater with post season experience. He has been ranked 1 or 2 in rate of groundball outs while with LA. And that’s a big plus when pitching in CBP. His veteran presence is invaluable for Kendrick, Hamels, etc.
Lowe’s contract and with his team contending probably rules out any chance of getting him. And I haven’t mentioned the additional cost of prospects for a trade. The Phillies’ tightfisted owners will look elsewhere no doubt. Oh well, one can dream.
Latest team report on Eaton: On possible option to AAA Lehigh….
” Like Myers, Eaton would have to agree to a minor-league assignment. He doesn’t believe it’s necessary, despite being pounded for 16 runs (14 earned) on 17 hits in 6 1/3 innings over his last two starts for a 19.89 ERA. Eaton said he scanned video of his starts from a previous season and discovered mechanical flaws that need correcting. “I think the changes aren’t dramatic by any means,†Eaton said. “I think I can do it here.â€
Unfortunately for Eaton, I don’t think he has the luxury of time in rotation to correct his mechanics especially with the Mets on the heels of the Phillies in the standings. It’s possible that Manuel will give him one more start to see if he can fix his mechanics.
July 14th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
Manuel better not give him a start. The difference between Myers and Eaton is that Myers is actually a good pitcher. He has good stuff. That’s why he needed to get fixed. Eaton doesn’t have good stuff. There’s nothing to fix. He’s a bad pitcher.
July 14th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Jamie – Mets fan don’t need to brag about beating up on the lowly Rox. The satisfaction of taking the series against the Phils _in Philadelphia_ is where the confidence level rose and the bragging rights began. See ya on the 22nd at Shea!
July 14th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
I like how the Mets just won 9 games in a row…and are still trailing the Phillies…
July 14th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Here are the Phillies problems
27-23 home
25-21 away
Can someone tell me what’s wrong with that? The away record is fine. We’re one of handful of teams with a winning road record, but that 27-23 home record is horrible. It just goes to show our bandbox hurts us more than it helps us. We can hit home runs out of any ballpark. We don’t need CBP. I wish they would have built us an uber big pitchers park. Cole Hamels would be the god of MLB pitching if we had a big ballpark. We need to start winning more at home, that’s the problem.
July 14th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
The bandbox is an advantage and an asset but their entire philosophy of personnel is backwards. CBP is an advantage if you spend more money on pi9tching than on offense. you dont need to go crazy and pau geoff jenkins 5mm, etc. thats total garbage. thats why you dont need to sign victorino long term. you need to spend like 65-70% of your money on good pitching. then you can really take advantage of the ballparks ability to make marginal hitters look good and beat teams with pitching.
theyve got it totally backwards.
July 14th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
27-23 does not hurt us more than it helps us… I understand your point, take, the Mets (+10 at home, -6 on the road).. The Cubs (+25 at home, -6 on the road)
I like that we’re a balanced team who doesn’t NEED home field to win games.. last year it took them until late August to be over .500 at home i think
July 14th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
There haven’t really been a lot of legit free agent pitchers that would really thrive in this park.. Webb, Lowe, Wang… all those ground-ball pitchers would be filthy here.. look how many HR Cole Hamels gives up here…
Thats why Kendrick has had success at home.. and Im sure that they are teaching yougner guys the sinker down in the minors
July 14th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
I agree. The Phillies should try to make an offer to lowe in the offseason. Chien Ming Wang would be awesome here.
July 14th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
The pitching pickings havebnt been good in free agnency the past few years. tahts why the kyle lohse thing got out of control.
even with a paucity of pitching, you dont give carlos silva 11mm per year. tahts the worst contract ever in baseball.
July 14th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Zito is worse than Silva. Also, Kendrick’s numbers on the road are better than at home this year. LAst year he thrived at home. Cole Hamels let’s up a lot of home runs, but so does Santana and he pitches in a big ball park. That’s Santana and Hamels kryptonite. They’d let up the long ball in any stadium probably, aside from a place like Petco.
July 14th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
Yeha Zito is bad because he wasnt the type of pithcer that projected well to the NL anyway.
July 14th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
That was Beane being Beane again. I wish he was our GM. We’d be god like at this point.
July 14th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Yea, last year when Kendrick came up…all he had to do was throw strikes and let Rollines play that gold-glove defense behind him!!
Im not knocking Hamels, im just saying that its tough to spend smart money on pitchers for the Phillies because not every pitcher would be successful here at home. Like Santana is a Fly-ball pitcher for the most part, so he wouldn’t be a great fit here… he’d be good, and i’d love him on my team…but a like Webb would incredible for our team.
July 14th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Beane really is awesome. Hes like way way way beyond the scope of Gillicks knowledge or abilities. if beane had this payroll to work with hed have like 4 or 5 championships here, seriously.
July 14th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Don M, most strike out pitchers are fly ball pitchers. That’s the problem with getting a strike out pitcher.
July 14th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
yea I agree completely
July 14th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
I have a comment to the A- – who stated he was Adam Eaton’s Dad and that I told him about the site. For one thing you are most likely an A – - of the worst kind for writing the article and including another father in the story.
To Adam Eaton’s Dad sorry there are idiots writing. That is why I do not write very often on the blogs or forums. There are people out there that probably have been dunked in the bathroom a couple of times.
To all Phillies Fan’s who understand the up’s and down’s of baseball.
I think you probably agree using another father’s name in the story which was fictitious to start is a low blow.

Thats why I like Kendrick, groundball pitchers are so much more effective at this ballpark. Tim Hudson probably loves pitching here, though I cannot recall his CBP numbers off hand.

Mr. Durbin: what does Chad think of Carlos Marmol getting picked for the all star game?
Personally, if they picked marmol they shouldve picked Chad. Chad is having a better season than Marmol is.
I guess hell like the few days rest though.

After that statement I don’t think that is actually Chad Durbin’s dad.

Phil – I am Chad’s Dad, however I was not impressed by whomever decide to say I told them about the site. Then went on to trash Eaton.
I have only emailed one person and that was you asking about a signed ball.
Being a Dad of a player, I have seen the crap that can be said about a player.
I personally hope Adam gets his act together.
This is a better blog site than many.
Yes Phil I am Chad’s Dad.
As to pitchers picked up for the all star game. I read where they make the decision many times as to what pitchers are available to pitch.
Best Yet! I am not much of a baseball fan. I do not watch what other players are coming up or worry anymore about whom could take whoms place.
I have had to become a fan, but usually only follow the team Chad is on. It changes quite frequently, but with luck maybe he can have a few years with Philly.
I apologize for letting the Eaton blog get to me, but I am a father and if you have kids you get it. If not then you don’t.

zero percent chance that is Chad Durbin’s father
July 14th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
Nah, he emailed me. He is Chad’s dad. Mr. Durbin, that guy that posted was NOT Adam Eaton’s dad. That post was oozing with sarcasm.

I could spit out some DNA for you!
I could state some childhood stories about little league.
I could tell you the day Chad found out he was drafted in the 3rd round by KC.
I could tell you his stories about trying to pitch after surgery, breaking scar tissue and how it hurt like hell.
But it makes no sense to try to prove it.
Go Phils!

I know it was not Eaton’s Dad. Immediately I knew because no father would talk that way about his son.
I was more ticked just that someone would take it upon themself to say I had told them about the site.
So far I have met one player’s father and that was Jenkins.
I think I met Jimmy Rollin’s father but did not realize at the time it was his Dad.
Do any of you have kids who played little league, high school or college ball?

If they make the playoffs, and you go, look me up in the family section.

Good chatting Mr. Durbin. I misunderstood what you wrote. Enjoy your day at work. Tell Chad I said good luck, and let him know we’re not hatin for letting up that homer to Tatis. Noone is perfect.

I was at Sunday’s game with my twelve year old daughter and her friend for the Shane Victorino bobblehead – the game was awesome!
What’s better than a Phillies Win….meeting some players and getting autographs.
After the game – the girls wanted to wait where the players drive out of the parking garage to see if they could get autographs. I agreed to take them but told them not to get their hopes up. I told them the players are tired after playing all day in the sun.
To our surprise….they received autographs from Jimmy Rollins, Pedro Feliz and So Taguchi. These players chatted with them about the game, the upcoming Phillies Phestival, their excitement that they were getting their autographs and more.
In fact, So Taguchi pulled off to the side of the road and stayed until every person received an autograph.
Thanks guys for bringing smiles to all of those kids faces on that hot afternoon. And…
Go Phils!

At this point So Taguhci will do whatever it takes for fans to like him.
July 14th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Maybe – but he could have kept on going and never stopped in the first place.
July 14th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
Yeah, then he’d just be a dick on top of being a bad player. Honestly, I think he’s going to be huge in the 2nd half, but maybe it’s just a hunch and wishful thinking.
