Swindle Sent Down, Bisenius Comes Up

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Sun, July 13, 2008 08:53 PM

Earlier today the Phillies sent RJ Swindle back down to AAA Lehigh Valley. In his place the Phils have brought up pitcher Joe Bisenius.

The righty Bisenius is 2-4 with a 4.78 ERA in 27 appearances between Reading and Lehigh Valley. Swindle had a 7.71 ERA in 4.2 innings with the Phils.

It wasn’t hard to see that no matter how great the Swindle story seemed, he looked overmatched against big league hitting. Even lefties were getting their bats on him. The Phils need to find something fresh while the bullpen limps.

Shame. I liked Swindle as a situational guy, but since he doesnt make any money he was on a short leash. Eaton makes so much money theyve given him a year and a halfs worth of second chances and I think hes finally run out of them.

I think Charlie is just going to go through his bullpen prospects until he finds one he likes. I dont think theyll be getting relievers at the deadline. They need them but Ill bet they focus on starters and hitters. Ive been warming up to a Randy Winn deal. Hed be on the hook for 8mm in 2009 too but at least he can provide speed to the bases. hes hitting ok this year. hes better than jenkins at least…

Winn would be perfect for what we need. Someone to play good OF, put the ball in play, get on base. He could bat 2nd.

It seems strange to bring up Bisenius. I cant get a read on what the Phillies are doing. Why make this move now?

  3. Geoff Says:

I think theyre saying they cant afford to get a reliever at the deadline. Hell just run through his bullpen prospects. If bisenius isnt good then outman comes up, etc..

  4. Bill Says:

Sorry guys I disagree. The Phillies need to find a quality set up man before the deadline or they will not be able to hold onto the East. With Gordon down we need a back up plan. Even if Gordon comes back healthy, the amount of work these guys have been getting warrants another guy, almost regardless of the cost.

I know I’m probably the only one who feels this way, but I like Madson as the set up guy.

As for Swindle, it was all about when he was being put into games. He entered into bad situations having to clean up the mess Eaton left for him. I can’t say I can expect much more from a guy in his debut. Though sure enough, this just wasn’t his time.

  6. Greg Legg Says:

Swindle, bisenius, outman. It doesn’t matter. These guys are all bums. By “bums”, I mean that they are actual hobos that I founf riding on the pennsylvania railroad with all their belongings in a pillow case tied tied to a stick.

  7. Gavin Says:

Outman’s going to be pretty good dude.

  8. Chase Says:

    not surprizing

  9. Rob Says:

Greg Legg what the hell are your talking about Outman is going to be real good. It would be interesting to see lidge give him some slider tips.
