Utley To Bash In Derby

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Mon, July 07, 2008 10:20 AM

Chase Utley has agreed to take part in the Home Run Derby, which occurs Monday night at Yankee Stadium as part of MLB All-Star festivities.

Utley’s 24 home runs lead Major League Baseball, and he’s been the leader for much of the season.

Utley said the derby is basically like a bad batting practice, and since he has batting practice all the time it shouldn’t affect him. I’ll agree with The Man.

Come on the Chase. It’s good to see a skinny (compared to Howard, Ortiz etc.) guy taking part, showing it aint all about being 30 pounds and that you can hit it out with just a sweet, sweet swing.

  2. fred Says:

    sorry 300 pounds :)

  3. Phil Says:

Yeah, like back when Griffey used to be in the home run derby back in the day. I wonder else who will take part.

  4. Mike T. Says:

    I’m feelin’ this.

  5. TJ Says:

I hope Utley wins this, but I kinda like Berkman to win. Can we produce our 3rd champ in 4 years?

  6. Bruce Says:

Huh….Chase, I hope you don’t have post HR derby mechanics problem during the 2nd half of the season. Remember Bobby Abreu?

  7. danny Says:

this team sure can produce homerun derby champs and mvps.

    good thing!

is there any more worthless on espn.com than the accuscore forecast thing?

  8. WES CHAMBERLAIN Says:

The current status of my life is significantly more worthless than the accuscore forecast. Good point though.

  9. Bill Says:

I don’t think the derby will affect his swing. He has his head on better than the Bobby Abreu’s of the world that complain about losing their power afterwards. He is still talking about it!

Actually, ESPN.com had a full article on how A-Rod is getting divorced. That’s worthless. As well as a link to Women’s Basketball, both WNBA and College.

  11. andrew Says:

    why no howard?

  12. Phil Says:

He’s not in the ASG. He got to do it last year because he won in 06.

  13. danny Says:

Plus, Howard might strike out in the derby.
