I was up in Boston a few weeks ago, and I was lucky enough to go to Fenway to catch a Red Sox - A's game. Honestly, I could not believe the amount of cheering and support the Boston fans give out during the game. Every single out recorded by the visitors is cheered maniacally. After each player is annouced when walking to the plate, the fans go nuts. Now, while they don't necessarily cheer when the home team makes an out, they certainly don't go crazy with boos.

I feel that at the Bank there is so many other things going on that some fans attending the game become distracted and aren't necessarily paying attention to whats going on. On the other hand, Fenway is so small and old that the only thing to pay attention to is the game. While I know that the majority of the people that visit this site and post here have a genuine interest in the game, I can confidently say that about 25% of the people attending Phils games these days just go for something fun to do, and could care less whats going on in the field.

Phillies Fan: Your point is well made. I also wholeheartedly support our Phillies - even when times are bad. The difference for me is that, within reason, I expect a certain level of performance and ABSOLUTE HUSTLE - 100% effort, every single inning of ever single game, all season long.

I do not know what you do to earn a living, but I can guarantee you that when (if) my level of performance at work drops off significantly, I am going to hear about it - one way or another. And if it happened like it is for "some" of our Phillies, it would be reflected in my annual salary increase and bonus. Like most of us on this blog, that is the harsh reality my friend. That is a major part of the problem. Everyday Joe's paying a fortune to watch a game they love. A childs game of nothing but millionaires. I am partly to blame because, not only do I watch every single game on TV, I drive 90 miles round trip to pay to watch them as much as I possibly can, and I even fly to Florida to watch them play every March for one week. So yeah, I get it. It is my choice to do so, however frustrating it may be.

Although I love our Phillies, I will never blindly cheer for a ball player who appears to have given up. BTW, I have several Phillies jerseys (Rollins, Utley, Burrell, Hamels, Lidge) and every single game that I have gone to this year I have worn my Rollins #11 Red & White pinstripe jersey - just praying that Jimmy will find the heart of the NL MVP of last year. I don't expect him to be the MVP again this year, but I certainly do not expect him to be the MVPunk either!

first of all, i'm not a nationals fan, I used this name to post one time and my computer saved it so I went with it. I've been a phillies fan my whole life and have been following this years team rabidly. Although I agree that Jimmy is not the same player this year I just can't condone this type of treatment of one of our key players. I know he's been cocky, running his mouth, a bad leader and a hole at the plate at various times this season but I refuse to turn on him just like that. We need Jimmy. He's been on TV telling people that he needs us on his side. What good is booing him possibly going to do especially after the things he just said? (again I don't agree with everything he said but I do understand where he is coming from. The bottom line is that the phillies are my team. They always have been, and I see no reason to boo them. That's what the visiting team is for. That's what the mets and the braves are for. So you can go out on your pointless booing missions and i'm going to cheer for my team, win or lose, like a real fan.

Nats: You really do not get it. Jimmy is a completely different player this year, not only in his performance, but primarily with his attitude. His body language speaks volumes. I don't know how many Phillies games you actually go to (assuming you are really a Nats fan), but Jimmy has been given a major pass this year from the fans. Last year CBP almost shook to the ground with deafening chants of MVP, MVP! Jimmy used to be the spark plug of the Phillies even when he was having a rough time at the plate. This year Jimmy has been nothing but a punk. I have no clue what happened to him.

And as far as that stupid term of Frontrunner fans? I went to a week of spring training and watched 4 games and I have been to 18 regular season games so far this year at CBP. I have spent at the very least $7,000 going to Phillies games this year alone. And that is a lot of money for me. The one thing I want for my money is 100% effort from every player on the team. Is that to much to ask for? I think not. I understand that players can have slumps, but lack of effort is completely unacceptable too me. When a player demands a ton of money to play the game of baseball, they had better be prepared to produce to the level of their demands.

This is exactly what Jimmy was talking about... all of you who are spouting this boo Jimmy bullshit are the front runners he's talking about. You're the same people chanting MVP at every at bat last season and the first few games of this season. Booing him is not going to help anything at all. You guys are going to make him yet another disgruntled Phillie a la Schilling and Rolen
