Gamenight: Dodgers (65-62) At Phillies (68-59)

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Fri, August 22, 2008 06:21 PM

The Phillies couldn’t sweep the Nationals, but no worries, they’ll have a chance to get revenge from the four-game sweep they were handed by the Dodgers. The Blue is in for a four at Citizens Bank Park, which means a whole lot of Manny. Greg Maddux and Kyle Kendrick are the starters.

Greg? From San Diego?: Greg Maddux’s last start was against the Phillies, but as a member of the San Diego Padres. In that start he went seven innings and gave up just one run, but lost.

Ken-Not-Do: Kyle Kendrick has given up 13 runs in his last 7 innings (with one of those against the Dodgers). He’s been told to attack the plate more. Hope that works.

Not Great …: The Dodgers are 7-9 since acquiring Manny Ramirez … against everyone who is not the Phillies.

A Little Different: Finally Charlie Manuel breaks up Chase Utley and Ryan Howard. Pat Burrell is hitting third tonight.

Phillies: Kyle Kendrick (10-7) 5.01 ERA
Dodgers: Greg Maddux (6-9) 3.99 ERA

Gametime: 7:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 80, partly sunny
Lineup: Rollins/Utley/Burrell/Howard/Victorino/Dobbs/Jenkins/Coste/Kendrick

Your gamenight beer: It’s Friday night. This offense has been bad. Time to just break it open and forget everythingelese. Tonight, go with Olde English 800. Just do it. Pour it wide and take it in. Eat … whatever, French fries, potato skins, garbage plates. Who cares.

Go Phillies!

If he would just flip J-Hole and Vic we’d be set!

  2. Robbi P Says:

I agree with Danny Charlie needs to bitchslap every Phillies player and I do mean every phillies player

  3. Georgie Says:

    Why isn’t Pedro Feliz starting?

  4. danny Says:

Probably cause Maddux would certainly stick him with an 0-fer.

  5. Mike T. Says:

i accepted charlie not changing the lineup around a few weeks ago, but now it’s just completely unacceptable. honestly, i mean come on now. it can only help this offense out – it certainly won’t hurt.

  6. Mike T. Says:

FIRST PITCH SWINGIN BABY!!!!!!!!!! J ROLLLL BABYYY ON FIRE!!

  7. Mickey D Says:

Can’t believe MLB Extra Innings isn’t carrying the game. Came home early for nuthin.

  8. Mike T. Says:

    what an idiot. later.

  9. danny Says:

If I gambled, I could make a lot of money off the Phillies

  10. Mickey D Says:

    What’d he do?

  11. Geoff Says:

j-rolls gotta go. im about to start accusing him of intentionally tanking it.

  12. Geoff Says:

build around utley burrell shane and try again next year

  13. Geoff Says:

before people get all man..this is how back and forth and frustrating these guys are.

  14. Geoff Says:

    mad*

  15. Mickey D Says:

Grrr, it’s killin me that this isn’t on! Friggin Doyers!

  16. Mickey D Says:

So, you’re saying it’s starting to look like another “maybe next year” for the Phils? What a shame, it seemed like we had all the tools to make it happen.

  17. Grrrumpy Miner Says:

1-0 Mets after 1……….Phillies better find a way to get thru the Dodgers this weekend before the Amazins invade Philly. It might be ugly. NO I’m not saying the Amazins will win the NL East but keep this up,and it’ll be time to complain about McNabb and Labor Day is wright around the corner.

  18. Geoff Says:

im pretty sure only like one or two people actually care about the eagles. im not one of them

  19. Geoff Says:

you know what? what they need to do is waive ryan howard and jimmy rollins and trade them for a bunch of players to be named later. mail it in, rebuild, come back stronger. yeah. and then demand immediate success.

  20. Fred Says:

This fall Burrell will be 32, Utley will be 30, Rollins will be 30, Howard will be 29 and Victorino will be 28. Isn’t it getting a little late to ‘build’ around these guys? When I think of building around guys, I’m thinking early to mid 20s not players hitting 30 or older.

  21. Geoff Says:

bring up mike cervenak and jason donald to replace them. yeah.

  22. Geoff Says:

well we could blow it ALL up….but victorino is cheap and still in his arb years.

utley makes 11mm next year and 15mm every year after that for the rest of his contract. jimmy rollins is an asshole who is signed cheaply for 3 more years and is intentionally tanking balls and at bats. pat burrell can play first base even though hes aging a bit. you need a professional, serious veteran on the team. howard is an asshole who is getting overpaid in his arb years and is so bad in the field that even though ive never seen pat play first ill bet hes better.

you know what? it may be a flip flop but those guys ARE getting old. new GM coming in. maybe wanna rebuild a little? other than jamie the pitching is all reasonably young in the rotation and the talented end of the bullpen. lidge is here to stay. durbin and romero are over 30 but are useful and signable. madson is going to be a free agent i think.

i think they can build around hamels, victorino, burrell, and the stars of the bullpen and go from there perhaps?….

  23. Geoff Says:

oh, and werth is 28/9 but hes not going to cost much tokeep here..he can stay

  24. danny Says:

1 or 2 people care about the Eagles? Wha?

  25. Geoff Says:

on here….even if there appear to be more. they are holograms because the eagles dont actually exist. its not real man….

  26. jay Says:

3-0 mets damn these mets dont go away dont they phillies?

  27. Geoff Says:

can you tell i hate the nfl?

  28. danny Says:

Remember how the Marlins looked against Moyer? That’s how we look against Maddux.

  29. danny Says:

Man, I love the NFL. Just love it. Love the Eagles.

I’d rank my sports allegiance as:
    1. Eagles
    2. Sixers
    3. Phillies

  30. Geoff Says:

look at that patient, crafty at bat. legend vs veteran. nice at bat pat

  31. Fred Says:

What’s wrong with sitting our big guns for a game or two? What’s the worse that could happen? We lose a game or two? We don’t score any runs? Strikeout too much? Sounds like the same thing that’s happens to our ’stars’ now.

  32. danny Says:

    Pat the Bat! A BASERUNNER!

  33. danny Says:

    LOL Hitters count Ryan!

  34. jay Says:

    good bye babyy

  35. danny Says:

As much as I resent Ryan Howard, the opposite field homeruns are so cool.

  36. Geoff Says:

    teams:

    1…flyers
    2…phillies
    that never changes or waivers…

hate the nfl, apathetic/neutral towards nba (BUT love the new sixers GM, may start paying a little more attention to support them and reward them for their postive new look.)

    sports for me

    nhl
    mlb
    college fb
    college baseball
    college basketball
occasional premier league soccer/ europmean champions league

the rest i tune out for the most part

BUT its almost impossible to tune out the NFL because if you dont watch it people look at you like youre some kind of terrorist or space alien

    also…ryan howard CRUSHED taht. damn.

  37. Geoff Says:

as much as im not sure baout what to do with howard here…when hes hitting the ball the opposite way consistently, he really is the most dangerous hitter in baseball

  38. Geoff Says:

i dont like greg dobbs at all, but i have to admit that was a realy nice bunt

  39. Fred Says:

Howard is never the most dangerous hitter is baseball. I’ll take Manny any day of the week.

  40. Geoff Says:

well i thouhgt his mvp year when he his tons of opposite field bombs that he was really dangerous

  41. Geoff Says:

breaking up howard and utley is something they shouldve done months ago

  42. Geoff Says:

all you have to do is sac fly here and you pad the lead, come on coste…

  43. Geoff Says:

    there you go, nice.

  44. danny Says:

WHAT AN AWESOME HIT BY WERTH!

  45. danny Says:

    EAGLES 10-0

  46. danny Says:

I’m listening to the Eagles- did J-Hole get booed there?

  47. Kyle Says:

    What happened to Geoff Jenkins?

  48. Fred Says:

Utley’s in a real rut. Time to have a seat for a few games.

  49. Georgie Says:

I’ll say it again, Utley looks physically ill , I wonder if he’s a vegetarian? They always look anemic and tired.

  50. Fred Says:

    It’s from the speeders.

  51. danny Says:

New England is booing… Hmm. Did you guys know they boo there too?

  52. CT Says:

    wooooooooo yeah, Coste Guard!

  53. Christian Says:

We will probably score like 18 runs tonight. This is what bad teams do: they average 3-4 runs per game and then occasionally score a whole crapload in one game. eg – see what the Nationals did today against the Cubs.

  54. danny Says:

    Demps 102 yd TD return 17-3 Eagles…

    THEN

DeSean 75 yard punt return 24-3 Eagles..

And a 3 run home run by Coste??!?!?!?

    This Olde English works good.

  55. danny Says:

And the Astros score 8 runs off Santana. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

  56. Tim Malcolm Says:

    Yay! Woo! Go Phils!

    And Eagles. Sure.

    But go Phils!

  57. danny Says:

All the position players have hits except Rollins.

  58. CT Says:

Rollins average must’ve dropped ten points in the past week alone

  59. Mickey D Says:

Utley’s a hard core liberal, so he might be vegan too.

  60. the truth hurts Says:

do madson and durbin have to appear in every game? 8-1, anyone wanna bet we see romero too?

  61. Tim Malcolm Says:

But it hasn’t dropped as many points as his status with fans!

    Ziiiiing!

    Heh. Heh. Oh.

  62. danny Says:

His average since Best Damn Gate is less than .100. Coincidence?

  63. danny Says:

    Santana is just a bad-ass. I’m a fan.

  64. Mickey D Says:

    TIM: LOFL!

  65. Geoff Says:

that was a nice win, ive seen them smash maddux before. but you know what they need to do? they need to trade jimmy rollins….

decent outing by kendrick, go one more inning, but at least his lowering the ERA

  66. CT Says:

    Coste for the Ashburn?

  67. Geoff Says:

also, only the phillies will have retro night and not wear retro uniforms.

  68. Geoff Says:

imall about utley rescuing animals though. thats a legitimate and quality charitable act. guess his wife needed something to do.

  69. Mickey D Says:

Right on! We needed that one!

  70. Geoff Says:

oh, and they also need to trade jimmy rollins

  71. Tim Malcolm Says:

Would’ve liked the maroon pinstripes tonight. Ashburn goes to Coste (though Brian did it), but many contributed to this one.

  72. Tim Malcolm Says:

On second thought, Ashburn should go to DeSean Jackson. Ha.

  73. danny Says:

Yes Tim, I agree with that!

  74. Mickey D Says:

Was J-Roll limpin again? Maybe he misses his mommy in Oaktown, which by the way, is as nice as Darby x 20.

  75. Geoff Says:

Tim: Beer recommendation…Stoudt’s Fat Dog Oatmeal Stoudt

  76. Greg V. Says:

Lol! I drank Old E for the first time in ages tonight only to find that it was the beer of the day! Classic!

  77. J-Man Says:

Nice to finally see the Phils score some runs their long over due we just need em to keep on coming…Charlie seriouslly needs to pull J-Roll from the lead off spot because he’s just flat out horrible anymore and isn’t getting on base it’s useless to have him lead off…Vic would be better leading off.
