Gamenight: Dodgers (65-64) At Phillies (70-59)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Sun, August 24, 2008 06:12 PM
The Phillies’ bats remained hot with a 9-2 victory yesterday. Pat Burrell tied a career high with 5 RBI. Tonight the Phils face Hiroki Kuroda, who blinded the Phils with a 7 K, 1 ER performance a week and a half ago. He had three consecutive dominant starts, but was tripped up Tuesday by the Rockies. Joe Blanton, who struggled Tuesday against the Nationals, goes for the Phils. It’s an ESPN game — lately the Worldwide Leader has been kind to the Phils.
Ham Company: With Cole Hamels’ win yesterday, the Phillies became the third National League team with three 11-game winners (Kyle Kendrick, Jamie Moyer the others; Cubs, Cardinals the teams).
The Bat’s Feat: Pat Burrell’s home run yesterday gives him 30 for the fourth time. His career high is 37 (2002).
Great Pitching: The Phillies have a 2.51 ERA in their last nine games.
Phillies: Joe Blanton (6-12) 4.87 ERA
Dodgers: Hiroki Kuroda (7-9) 3.97 ERA
Gametime: 8:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 79, sunny
TV: ESPN
Lineup:
MLB TV
MLB Gameday Audio
MLB Gameday
Your gamenight beer: For some reason Pete’s Wicked Strawberry Blonde gets hammered by beer critics, but I don’t really mind it. It’s your standard strawberry ale, but not that strong with the fruit and pretty drinkable overall. I’d easily prefer this than any garden variety “lime” beer, though it’s not on par with regular old Blue Moon and such. Your food pairing: a chicken Caesar salad.
Go Phillies!

Well with the Mets losing, the Phils could pull within a 1/2 game assuming the offense shows up.
Seems like ever since that 20 run outburst in STL, the offense went on vacation.
August 24th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
let the hot bats continue!
August 24th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
oh and let joe actually pitch a good game!
August 24th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
Pedro Feliz has a more productive bat than J-Hole…..never thought I’d say that this year
August 24th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
I love LA! Except for the Dodgers.
Go Phils!
August 24th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
ladies and gentlemen, i bring to you the two worst commentators in the history of baseball.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Here is a question, I was watching BBTN and Nick Punto made another web gem. Who did we get for him?
August 24th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
This breaking ball is already a mess. These two guys are complete retards.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
I wonder which Joe Blanton we’ll see tonight. Hopefully the good one.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
This broadcast, i mean.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Blanton needs 7IP fewer than 3 runs tonight.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Philly fan in New York says Beat La.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Mike, I don’t know. Those Nationals announcers are something else. HOwever, Morgan and “Joe Blanton the Dodger” John Miller are certainly among the shittiest.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Why was Jenkins dressed on the bench if hes on the DL
August 24th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
These two announcers basically sound like everything they say is scripted. They end each sentence with a suggestive uptone and the end of many of their statements, almost as if its a cue. The conversation just doesnt sound authentic.
Joe Blanton is so annoying. Hes not efficient enough when hes not at his best.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
nice, now get loney to GIDP.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Oh, are we in for it tonight. Blanton isn’t locating his ass with both hands.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
and the inconsistency continues. if they dont get to kuroda its going to be a long night.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
Whew. Thank God Werth got to that. That saved us a run.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
about time. 30 pitch first inning.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Textbook. Throw 30 pitches in the first, and leave the bases loaded. I’ll give it to ESPN, although their announcers are garbage, they can make some funny commercials.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
Miller f’in sucks. His comments about booing are totally asinine.
Doesn’t anybody get the psychology of booing? When Manny got on base I said “boo,” not at him, not at Blanton, not at anyONE, but the way you might say “fuck,” or “shit” (except that I’m too polite to talk like that around kids). It’s just a word to express frustration. Miller & Morgan are too retarded to understand that simple concept. BOO to them.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
Did you guys notice when Morgan said Philly fans have trouble distinguishing between the good guys and bad guys…
LOL- What Joe?
August 24th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
joe morgan doesnt know where he is half the time. clueless.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Yeah, I was watching The Prince Bride the other day and I just couldn’t figure out who I should be rooting for.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
NEW NICKNAME:
Joey bleepin’ Blanton
August 24th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Burrell’s chaw knocked him off balance there.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
need runs here
August 24th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
This guy just baffles us!
August 24th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Can’t help but think Coste would have gotten Victorino in there. Oh well, what do we know…
August 24th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
and of course the phillies refused to give him the contract he wantd from us…
August 24th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Geoff, who are you talking about. I was away from the TV for a few minutes
August 24th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Man, am I tired of all this “Manny” horseshit. These ESPN people like to lick Manny and the Dodgers’ poles more than anyone else.
August 24th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
the offense is asleep once again.
August 24th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
was talking about how they almost got kuroda
August 24th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
They keep talking about how Russell Martin isn’t hitting “at all”
Dude, these guys don’t even know about not hitting.. Martin is hitting .258 for July and August…
Half our line up has hit that way the entire year.
August 24th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
but then, the next day after it was said they were interested, amaro came out and talked trash on how overrated kuroda was and how they werent interested in him. fucking assholes.
August 24th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
3-0 count, mark that a 4-3 on your scorecards.
August 24th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
martin’s numbers:
.287 AVG
.384 OBP
12 HR
56 RBI
thats pretty good for a catcher whos still young. what are they talking about? i WISH he was a phillies
August 24th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
“That’s a former player for you right there, still rooting.”
August 24th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Is the Taco Bell commercial with the rapping white dudes are the drive through window the worst commercial ever?
August 24th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Joe Morgan is the biggest jack ass of all time…..he has gone 4 innings now without telling us he’s in the HOF though….I’m sure its coming soon
August 24th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
That is one of the worst commercials I’ve ever seen
August 24th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
you just need more out of blanton than this. 1 run? fine. but you NEED him to go 6 or 7 not 5. weve seen too much of that this year
August 24th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Needed to get that DP
August 24th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
this is the most in-depth analysis i have ever heard. we are truly blessed tonight.
August 24th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
nice…
ok. joe: give us one more scoreless inning and ill take it and turn it over to chad durbin.
August 24th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
how about a couple of hits guys….
August 24th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
Here is a good article about Chase Utley from the LA Times. Nothing groundbreaking but Jon Miller was referencing it earlier.
August 24th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
Did you see those people dressed up as members of the KKK?
August 24th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
big fan of jimmy’s sippy-cup
August 24th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
this guy is good, kuroda, but hes not THAT good. i saw the mets mash him earlier this season when they were in a slump.
August 24th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
thank you chase utley.
August 24th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
“good piece of hitting there by utley, who is definitely a good hitter.” wow, thanks joe morgan..
August 24th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
i wonder if manny ramirez is batting next inning?
August 24th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
nice catch!
August 24th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
did he just say “crunches that one”
August 24th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
What a play by Vic!
August 24th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
holy shit! howard made an amazing play right there
August 24th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
am i the only one who audibly went “WOAH” when Howard layed out for that catch?
August 24th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Those plays are so much harder than barely diving outfield plays that always end up on the top plays.
August 24th, 2008 at 10:01 pm
that was definitely a “what got into him” moment
August 24th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Seriously, that’s the best play I’ve ever seen from Howard… wow.
August 24th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
I hope we dont boo him when he strikes out.
August 24th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Another quality start by Blanton with ZERO run support.
Same song all season. No runs.
August 24th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
yep. no run support. make a good, solid pitcher (kuroda) look like an all star
August 24th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
What a battle between Kemp and Romero.
August 24th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
What a crappy AB
August 24th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Wow, is Joe Morgan an idiot.
August 24th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
fuck you ryan madson, piece of trash. better not be here next year
August 24th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
0-2 count… just insanity.
August 24th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Ol’ two run Madson back at it I see.
“Utley’s tag was on the back of Kemp’s foot – that’s what told the ump he was safe.”
-Joe Morgan
8/24/08
Umm…Joe…how about Kemp’s foot getting to the bag first – would that be a clue that he beat the tag, too?
August 24th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
madson sucks piece of garbage
blew it against the nationals, now he’s done it again…
August 24th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
At least they got Karuda Clemens out of the game.
August 24th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
but hong chi kuo owns their ass. hard throwing left hander, type of guy they cant hit
August 24th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
They shouldn’t let these Japs pitch in the US. They’re too good.
August 24th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
(I was kidding of course. They should only be allowed to pitch for us.)
August 24th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
so i guess Clay Condrey will be up to pitch the 8th…
August 24th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Matt, doesn’t that thought just give you chills? It does me. WE NEED SOME F$#KING RUNS!
August 24th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
why does Feliz have to go right after the first pitch?????
August 24th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
oh boy love to see Madson still out there. Bottom of this inning is key. 0 runs in the bottom does not bode well for the outcome of this game.
August 24th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
hhahahah i love them complimenting Ryan’s defense.
August 24th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
i can’t believe the phils only have 2 hits so far tonite…it’s like here we go again…
August 24th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
I, for one, would like to see Burrell hit one of this prick’s 94 mph fastballs in the 2nd tier in left. With a runner or two on, preferably.
August 24th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
dammit rollins!!!!
August 24th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Joe Morgan, why are you impressed by Rollins’ amount of AB’s last year?
August 24th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Charlie needs to give J-Roll a day off to clear his head. He clearly is struggling at the plate and seems lost.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Way to go Pat! Now Howard needs to get him in.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
howard has only 1 strikeout tonite so far…PROGRESS???
August 24th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
fuck howard – 3 weak groundouts to first tonite….
August 24th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
i’ll take the strikeouts
August 24th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
what are the chances of the back end of our line up getting it done in the 9th?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Now, I haven’t been following baseball for too long, so maybe I’m missing something, but isn’t the lead-off hitter supposed to be one of the best hitters? Isn’t he supposed to, you know, get on base? Why do we have a lead-off hitter with a BA of around .250?
Where is it written in stone that J-Rol has to be the leadoff hitter, no matter how much he sucks at any given time?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
im so glad they pitched run for pat cuz they knew that howard was going to actually get a hit! thats going to fuck us up later
August 24th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
they look at it as Jroll won MVP as a leadoff hitter but yeah i think its about time shane becomes the leadoff hitter until rollins at least starts to hit or wake up and he needs a day off.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
chris coste or andy tracy? i’m so excited to see andy tracy!! guaranteed homerun
August 24th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
What’s gonna be the title of the next post, 1!, We Suck?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
they need to man up and come back here. they need this one.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
wtf manuels a dumbass now hes gunna have to pinch hit for lidge if he wants to win.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
oh. bruntlett.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
nice shane..NICE
August 24th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
There’s your base runner, lets see if they can to anything.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
watch the “bunt for a tie” from bruntlett haha
August 24th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
lol deja vu all over again
no bunt
no bunt
no bunt
August 24th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
they should just let lidge hit
August 24th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
He better watch is fingers on the bunt.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
so the other day bruntlett takes 2 strikes trying to bunt, and here he bunts at a ball??
unreal!
August 24th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
pfan451123 – would you have left Madson in for the 9th? Or put in Geary? Someone else?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
nice bunt!
August 24th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
HAHAHAHA. morgan repeated the exact same phrase twice.
“its very difficult to bunt a guy that throws as hard as broxton does.”
HAHAHA.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
sweet.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
andy tracy, i called guaranteed homerun
August 24th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Victorino is a bad-ass. What a ball player. This is awesome.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Looks like everyone’s going to see their new savior bat (Tracy).
August 24th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
this guy is really throwing the cheese
August 24th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
dude, i agree. Tracy jacks one to win it.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
99….92 mph slider
August 24th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
was the Geary comment a joke? and bruntlett wasn’t bunting a ball, he was saving his life
August 24th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
dude, russell martin looked like an nhl goalie there.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
F-U Martin – can’t you just miss one?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
3-1 90 mph slider…thats wrong
August 24th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
omg he should had took that yard
August 24th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK BALL FOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!1
August 24th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
DAMN..99 up in your grill. shoudlve swung at the 90 mph slider.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
Sit down!
August 24th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
oh its on now. tracy is all over broxton, got his number.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Tracy strikes out.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
im mad at them for not hitting kuroda. with broxton, this guy brings the heat and there isnt much you can do if he locates it.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
Andy Tracy? I’m afraid we’re fucked.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
this dude just needs to get a single
August 24th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
he’s wearing rowand’s old number
August 24th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
dont give him a 3-0 green light charlie
August 24th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
He’s doing the greatest thing in his Phillie career, not swinging.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
And Andy Tracy has the highest OPS on the team.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
first pitch swinging 10 – 1 odds
August 24th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
wow, nice patience at the plate by Tracy
August 24th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
nice job tracy. did NOT swing at that. key word: patience….good job. feliz, be patient…
August 24th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
come on pedro do something besides strike out
August 24th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
.111 AVG, 9 AB, 3 K’s against Broxton in Feliz’s career.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Nothing like pinch hitting Bruntlett and Tracy with Coste available.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
“The old saying I love to hit the fastball except… when it’s overpowering as Broxton’s is”
August 24th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
J-Hole on deck.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
oh boy
August 24th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
with tracy..when was the last time you saw a philie look at 4 pitches in a row and get a walk out of it?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
yeah!!@!!
August 24th, 2008 at 11:26 pm

August 24th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
FELIZ!!!!
August 24th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
What a crazy hit! WOW!
August 24th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Jay, you guys really are front-runners.
One second you want his head then you’ll be kissing his ass if he gets a base hit.
Even though, he’ll strike out.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
come on jimmy. redeem yourself….please.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
J-roll wins this thing. Has to be.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
i love shane. jimmy has got to be thinking gapper
August 24th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
1-2, hitters count Jimmy.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
Victorino has been our MVP, it’s a no brainer.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:28 pm

poor jimmy
August 24th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
wow. good thing pat burrell is still in there to bat second next inning… oh wait… he’s not
August 24th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
Fans go nuts once Rollins steps into the box then as soon as he grounds out he gets booed.
F-R-O-N-T-R-U-N-N-E-R-S!
August 24th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
THought that might be Rollins’ redemption coming up, but it wasn’t.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
J-Hole this is for you: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
August 24th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
frontrunners or not. if he cant deal with that reality then he should leave.
come on chad. shut em down here and lets get this win.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Tyler, you are a piece of shit. Learn the definition of Fruntrunner, then spell it, you fucking moron.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
umps have been awful tonite
August 24th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
I don’t think Jimmy is happy in Philadelphia nomore..He sure has been playing like he isn’t. He’s disgusting to watch anymore, Geezuz
August 24th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Chad Durbin, the Dodgers’ favorite pitcher.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Fair or foul?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Charlie needs to sit J-roll for a few games… make Victorino the lead-off hitter and let Bruntlett play as SS
August 24th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
this game was completely mismanaged.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Manny being Manny!
August 24th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Jimmy is about to be hitting in the .240s… you have to demote him at some point.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
are u suppose to cheer wen the game is on the line and ur suppose to be MVP team leader grounds out for out number 3?? becuz im sure any fan for any team wouldnt Tyler
August 24th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Defending MVP, I doubt that will happen.
Jimmy is gonna get eaten up at Shea, September 5-7.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
And J-Roll grounds out. Color me surprised.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
that ball was foul. jimmy got rooked. at least we tied it up – look on the bright side – we have taguchi hitting 2nd next inning since Pat was pulled.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Chad’s definitely NOT looking good….
August 24th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
wait, how do you spell frontrunner/fruntrunner?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
durbin has not been impressive the entire month
August 24th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Chad’s luck has run out. Sorry Mr. Durbin.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
You already know what he was gonna do. He sucks, all the fans hate him and the last 11 games he’s batting under .100.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
chad durbin has been overused i think. he looks tired. get someone up in the pen just in case. scott eyre maybe. it seems like they use chad durbin like everyday
August 24th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
Jimmy Rollins: 0-5
I think I’ve seen this before… oh right, it’s been like this for a month
August 24th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
tyler, you are an idiot. why do you think jroll or the phils are going to lay down at Shea? You’re stinkbag muts can’t hold 3-0 leads against the Astros at Shea. Why are u wasting time here tonite? Your game is long over with…
August 24th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
typo on my part
August 24th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
shit
August 24th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
Bring Renteria for SS… he’s amazing when playing in the NL (more so in the NL East –with Marlins and Braves)
August 24th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
Eaten up being booed.
Anyways, you already know Phils are gettin swept.
Bases loaded, no one out, good luck!
August 24th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
i hate to be a “frontrunner” but this is about to be the 3rd game vs the dodgers this season that durbin blows
August 24th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
i feel bad for Chad, I really do. He is much more quality than this.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
im dont hate jimmy i just kno he is capable of alot better .. he is in a slump shit happens to all players once he finds his game the phils will be back on top
August 24th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
I don’t think his last years MVP has anything to do with him getting demoted to AAA…Look at Andrew Jones! He wasn’t MVP or anything, but he was still a huge contender for consecitive years with the Braves. If you aint doing your job, you get demoted, point blank.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
tyler, your mets suck – you know it. admit it.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
nice double play.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
can you say big?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
fuck you ac whos in first place
August 24th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
AC, do you wanna explain to me how a team in first place sucks?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
exactly my point tyler
August 24th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
fuck you Muts Mets…it’s coming, the collapse is coming…u can feel it asshole
August 24th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
the entire NL east is pretty weak.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
I’ve been a big J-roll fan but his comments really piss me off –just keep your mouth shut and play baseball. MORE HITS, LESS TALK
August 24th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
chad durbin: that was a masterful escape.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
mets will not beat the phils again this year ! jimmy is going to have career games that the only reason that mets fans will be boooing.. lets go phils chase walk off
August 24th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
why ac just casue you dirtbags in philly say so????????
August 24th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
Casey Blake may have a strong chin, but DOUBLE PLAY BABY!
August 24th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
game over right here, HR for one of our big boys
August 24th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
No, actually, winning 10 out of 13 doesn’t feel like much of a collapse to me.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
What the hell did Morgan just utter? It didn’t make any sense whatsoever. First calling Coste Ruiz, then rambling like a buffoon about tagging the runner and how he made a nice play to get the force at third?!
August 24th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
And we have Soooooo Taguchi out there? Oh goody.
Is Burrell’s defense/baserunning really worse than So’s hitting? Because I don’t see how that’s possible.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
TAGUCHI WALK OFF
August 24th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
tyler – u suck. Muts win 10 out of 13 against dregs…phils can do that too!
oh they will – last week of the season, when phils play braves and nationals. while muts collapse finishes with Marlins and Cubs…
August 24th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
HAHAHA ^^Matt
August 24th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
that was little premature on my part… but you know its coming.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
RIght, Tyler. Your Mets have defined “collapse” pretty clearly as “blowing a seven game lead with 17 to play.” This losing 2-in-a-row is just a “prelapse.”
August 24th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
CHASE CHASE CHASE CHASE!
August 24th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
Hey AC, you’re behind a keyboard, you damn troll.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
and how can a team collapse when they have a 1.5/0.5 game lead hahahah dumb shit and do you know we have gained as much as 10.5 games on you this year???????? and about cubs and marlins i think your seeing the cubs pretty soon
August 24th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
Joe, you’re talking about last season. Loser.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
do you guys remember Joe Blanton pitched tonight? Seems like forever
August 24th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
Mets fans on here….do you really feel that confident that the Mets will stay in first with the shape your bullpen is in and the fact that John Maine is pitching hurt?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
Chad got out that by the hairs.
He has looked very tired for the last few outings.
Who they gonna bring in for the 11th?
No Sorry’s needed. I have had to walk away from watching when he is having a tough outing.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:46 pm
tyler – you’re an idiot behind a keyboard too you damn troll.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:46 pm
we have a starter ready to come up from the minors big prospect, and fucking luis ayala is god
mets > phillies
August 24th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
Well, John Maine hasn’t been pitching well anyways and should be shut down for the rest of the season because him pitching hurt is gonna hurt this team and the bullpen more then him actually sticking around in the rotation.
Mets need to call up either Bobby Parnell or Jonathon Niese to take his spot in the rotation.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
If Mets fans felt that confident, they wouldn’t be on here in the first place. It takes someone with absolutely no life to peruse a rival teams message boards.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
What are Mets fans doing here? Seriously?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
this is a great prelude to the Taguchi walk-off
August 24th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
So basically every starting pitcher is going to go all 9 every day right? Because we all know how well that Mets bullpen can hold leads….
August 24th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
All due respect to Mets fans, I find it incredibly interesting that they troll their way onto this site to talk shit on a day when their illustrious bullpen tanked again. They are running their mouths like they are 10 games up. It will be an interesting stretch run, I’ll give you that, but neither us nor the Mets are going to run away with anything.
Another thing in regards to Chris’ comments on demoting J-Roll…you can’t demote him to the minors for two reasons. The first is that as a veteran, he would have to accept the assignment or become a free agent, which I’m sure he would decline – the second and most important reason is that the minor league season is almost over. Rosters expand in another week anyways, and he plays too good of defense to not have him on the team.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
Watching the Phillie game and talking to Phillie fans, what’s wrong with that?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
Tyler, I’d cut and past some remarks on how the Phillies suck, back when they were in first, uttered by one of of your moronic Met brethren, but frankly, I’m lazy and don’t want to bother.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
gotta love how this at bat theoretically could last forever. i love baseball
August 24th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
Mike, are you trying to say ‘cut and paste’?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
SO SO SO SO SO SO!
August 24th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
practice swing
August 24th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
That was a good one Matt, lol.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
I agree with Jamie btw ^^
August 24th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
just letting beimel feel confident
August 24th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
Tag working the count. One word. Pro.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
Mets fans don’t have their own blog, b/c Mets fans are much lower on the intelligence chain than most primates
August 24th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
HOWARD TIME
August 24th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
Seriously…winning 10 of your last 13 against the Nationals, Pirates, etc. is not worth bragging about. Come talk to me after you play some .500+ teams and do that.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
MetsBlog.com is probably one of the most popular NL East blogs if not the best.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Nah, they have Metsblog.com, however, whenever a Phillies fan goes over there, all the Mets fans raise hell like “how dare they come to our blog.” Yet it’s totally cool they come over here, right trolls?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
first pitch swinging. sign of a good patient hitter.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Jamie, as seen as we take 2 games in Philly, 2 out of 3 in Florida and 3 out of 4 to the Brewers. I’ll come talk to you.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
well, no doubt this game is going into the 11th with K-How up
August 24th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
tyler – if it is, then go stay on it u stupid asshole
August 24th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
I really want Shane to bat…
August 24th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
i hope this game goes for like 20 innings just so we can get some more gems by morgan and miller
August 24th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Can you guys let we know when I call one person a troll, every you on you guys come out of the woods using the word troll as much as you guys jerk off to pics of Charlie Manuel every day.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
AC, why are you getting so mad for? Just having a conversation here, pal.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
Tyler, you speak English good, don’t you?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
shit…
August 24th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
Hahahaha! Howard!
August 24th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
OH …WOW…nice one Howard
August 24th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
i love the phillies but. that was funny.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
Come on SJ Mike, I only had one mistake.
lol
August 24th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
Tyler – don’t call me pal, i’m not your pal. thanks.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
i just don’t understand why Howard tried that. what a bonehead move
August 24th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
I’m not your buddy, guy.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5uzJVkeaUI&feature=related
August 24th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
AT LEAST we’ll have Victorino leading off the next inning
August 24th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
Do you think Taguchi’s friends say to him: “You’re So Taguchi, and you don’t even know it.” ?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
it was perfect. Because the best announcers ever were talking about Howard’s great baserunning skills and then… picked off. Coincedence? I think Miller and Morgan have ESP
August 24th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
Tyler, I think you mean “as soon as” rather than “as seen as,” but I get your point. When you take 7 out of those 9, you march your happy ass back here and gloat. I don’t think the Mets will, though.
And if you have such a savior down in the minors who is going to be the next coming of Christ for your starting rotation or bullpen, the intelligent side of me questions why the Mets brass hasn’t thought to promote him already, since your bullpen is utter shit and the rotation is suffering injuries as frequently as Chris Henry gets arrested.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
Well:
“let WE know” = 1
“every you on you guys” = 2
You count well too, don’t you? Then again, you talk as if you have a 15 game lead, so counting and grammar may not be a strong point for you. That’s okay, Hooked on Phonics can help you with that.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
after reading that last comment from tyler i agree that mets fans are retarded
August 24th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
Wow..Mets fans ARE losers…somehow I’m not surprised
August 24th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
Manuel strikes again. So Taguchi stuck with crucial playing time. I can’t believe Tyler is back either. Shouldn’t he and Rivlez be playing “soggy biscuit” somewhere. Maybe they just decided to put off practicing their “elephant walk” til monday.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
Look, every team has fans that are trolls. It’s a fact. But seriously, Tyler, why are you here?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
Yeah, neither do I.
lol
Time to take Durbin out of the game. 4 hits in 1 inning.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
Does anyone know if the Mets won today? Oh, that’s right, they lost.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
Because I’m watchin the Phillie game and why not talk to other people who are watching the game.
Plus, I’m a Met fan.
Most likely to be referred to as the “Mutts”
August 24th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
I’m not really feeling Durbin for 2. Who would have their bullpen session tonight/tomorrow? I’m not for using starters out of place but this is a kind of important game.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
They should put Myers to “close” the game haha
August 25th, 2008 at 12:00 am
I predict a meltdown tomorrow for Mike Pelfrey and the Mutts
August 25th, 2008 at 12:01 am
if Myers wasn’t going tomorrow I wouldn’t mind seeing that Manny
August 25th, 2008 at 12:01 am
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:02 am
Shane!
August 25th, 2008 at 12:02 am
pelfrey has already thrown more innings than ever before in his career…i wouldnt be surprised to see his arm fall off
August 25th, 2008 at 12:02 am
Despite base hit, nice inning there.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:02 am
Why does Miller always throw in these Spanish comments?
August 25th, 2008 at 12:02 am
Yea Matt… I forgot that tiny detail ha
But if had pitched yesterday, I would definitely consider it
Alright, get on base Victorino
August 25th, 2008 at 12:02 am
Who are the scheduled starters for the game on Tuesday? I’m taking my (Mets fans) parents to the game.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:03 am
Last Met game I went to, a few days ago, he pitched a CG.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:03 am
Tuesday is Pedro vs Moyer, I believe.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:04 am
moyer and kendrick go in the mets series. i think santana is going too
August 25th, 2008 at 12:05 am
Tuesday – Pedro vs Moyer and Wednesday – Johan vs Kendrick.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:05 am
who did pelfrey pitch the complete game against? nationals? hawaiian little league champs???
mets are pussies…after tomorrow’s start, they’re taking pelfrey out of the rotation for a start – 8 days rest – so they’ll throw the great brian stokes at the marlins…lol
August 25th, 2008 at 12:05 am
Alright, AC.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:05 am
YEA SHANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 25th, 2008 at 12:05 am
SHANE!!!!!!!!!
August 25th, 2008 at 12:06 am
FUCK I love Vic’s hustle!
August 25th, 2008 at 12:06 am
I LOVE Shane.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:06 am
Shane = second half mvp
August 25th, 2008 at 12:06 am
wow vic for mvp
August 25th, 2008 at 12:06 am
i love shane!!! oh my gosh. he and moyer are the MVPs this year
August 25th, 2008 at 12:07 am
Victorino for MVP, is that a serious statement, PhilPhan?
August 25th, 2008 at 12:07 am
Shane just said >>” DO WORK! LETS GO” love it
August 25th, 2008 at 12:08 am
i thought this guy was done in may, and since that houston series when charlie called him out, hes turned his season and career around. hes really turned into a dynamic dangerous contact first hitter. just waht this team needs more of. still a few rough spots here and there but hes really come a long way this year. he is UNTOUCHABLE in the offseason. i want him kept around for a while.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Victorino IS THE MAN…. He’s an amazing, fast, competitive, well-rounded player who really gets into the game…something Mr.Rollins apparently forgot
August 25th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Do they have Coste bunt here to put Vic on 3rd with one out? Even though Werth has struggled today, I think he could get it done. However, if he didn’t, our pinch hitter would likely be Cole Hamels since we’re out of bench players. I think you let Coste swing away and hope he gets a single, but at the least, moves the runner over.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:09 am
two 35-year-olds facing each other at this AB
August 25th, 2008 at 12:09 am
I say: let Coste swing, Jamie
August 25th, 2008 at 12:09 am
Victorino for MVP
August 25th, 2008 at 12:09 am
Victorino has been the unsung hero. He seems to be coming up with all of the big clutch situations as of late.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:10 am
hamels pinch hits?
August 25th, 2008 at 12:10 am
Manny, obviously we’re on the same page as Charlie. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, though
August 25th, 2008 at 12:11 am
Hamels is the best hitting pitcher we have, so yes, he will pinch hit.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:11 am
If metsblog is so good then please go there and don’t let the door knob hit you in the asshole. PS. Did someone say that Ayala is “god”. I guess “god” was moonlighting as a 5.14 era pitcher on the worst team in baseball a couple weeks ago.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:12 am
3 – 2 count. I’m iffy
August 25th, 2008 at 12:13 am
Jamie: That’s good …(I think) haha
August 25th, 2008 at 12:13 am
oh man this is interesting
August 25th, 2008 at 12:13 am
ok jayson, just reach out and flick a medium range base hit and the game is over.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:13 am
Come on Rollins, make amends.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:13 am
lol…that was funny, that guy ^^
Ayala is no more of a “God” than Scott Eyre. A pleasant surprise, maybe, but the guy was a National and he’s been with the Mets for a week or two. He hasn’t even had a real opportunity to blow games for them yet.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:13 am
johnson can’t find the zone
August 25th, 2008 at 12:13 am
now Werth should bunt..no? I’m too freaking scared to make any decisions haha
August 25th, 2008 at 12:14 am
I’d hate to see J-Hole batting again …ugh
August 25th, 2008 at 12:14 am
wouldn’t a hamels walk off be the best?
August 25th, 2008 at 12:15 am
Yes Matt, that would be majestic
August 25th, 2008 at 12:15 am
SQUEEZE!
August 25th, 2008 at 12:16 am
man, I love this. A Hamels walk-off would be “titties.”
August 25th, 2008 at 12:16 am
Cole goes yard.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:16 am
F***
August 25th, 2008 at 12:17 am
j roll over and die is up
August 25th, 2008 at 12:17 am
Pedro Feliz…can he do it again?? Ehhh I’ll keep my mouth shut
August 25th, 2008 at 12:17 am
hamels just should have been patient and taken one pitch…
August 25th, 2008 at 12:17 am
Okay, back to Pedro. A Feliz walk-off would be not quite the same “titties,” but since they’re titties, they’re still pretty sweet.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:17 am
amend that someone who can get a hit is up
August 25th, 2008 at 12:17 am
Why not take a couple of pitches?
August 25th, 2008 at 12:17 am
HOME RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 25th, 2008 at 12:17 am
FELIZ
August 25th, 2008 at 12:17 am

August 25th, 2008 at 12:17 am

August 25th, 2008 at 12:19 am

August 25th, 2008 at 12:19 am

Pedro just made me very FELIZ
August 25th, 2008 at 12:19 am

August 25th, 2008 at 12:19 am

August 25th, 2008 at 12:19 am
4 rbis in key situations for feliz. CLUUTCH!
August 25th, 2008 at 12:19 am
Feliz just shoved a three foot piece of maple up tyler’s ass. Sideways.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:19 am
I think Pedro deserves a start tomorrow night, eh?
August 25th, 2008 at 12:19 am
Fear in Flushing….be afraid Mutts…be very afraid.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:20 am
I’d give the Ashburn to Rollins. He’s so good.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:20 am
vic is player of the game. he made it happen, on two runs. he made it happen
August 25th, 2008 at 12:20 am
We’ve missed that bat…..1/2 game out boys!!!! Where you trolls at!?!?!
August 25th, 2008 at 12:20 am
Obviously the Ashburn goes to Feliz…tonight was a no-brainer.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:20 am
Hey METS – in your head yet? Or did you go to bed already?
Thanks for visiting us, Tyler, METS and the others. You really made it all the more enjoyable. Sweet dreams.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:20 am
yay im a fucking philly fan and were still in second place oh yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 25th, 2008 at 12:20 am
That’ll get rid of Tyler and his buddies.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:21 am
Hmmm… maybe they’re actually coming alive. I still don’t see this team beating out-playing the Mets down the stretch though.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:21 am
Mets – you are so a poser…u know how fucking nervous u are right now dude
August 25th, 2008 at 12:21 am
Here Mets troll, Mets troll, Mets troll….
August 25th, 2008 at 12:22 am
im actually not that nervous, considering your 4-9 vs us pussies good luck vs johan and pedro hahahahahha suck it asswipe
August 25th, 2008 at 12:22 am
hey Mets, Tyler…when u go to sleep tomorrow night, the Mets will be back in second place!
August 25th, 2008 at 12:22 am
Mets fan,
Well, according to Metsblog, we’re tied in the loss column (whatever that means….some stat Matt Cerrone likes to use instead of actual standings).
And gee, do we dare go back to the archives of the Mets fans getting exciting when they were gaining ground on the Phils when in first place.
Man, you guys are complete hypocrites.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:23 am
Yo is anyone here coming to DC for the Sept 2 game?
August 25th, 2008 at 12:23 am
Mets…you weren’t nervous last september either…
August 25th, 2008 at 12:24 am
yea ac and im going to be the queen of france
August 25th, 2008 at 12:24 am
This is what I love about Pedro Feliz. He isn’t always the greatest hitter, but when it matters, he is somehow clutch! He kept us in the game and then he won it!
August 25th, 2008 at 12:25 am
I imagine the Muts fans are as nervous as we were when they were biting at our heals when we were barely in first place. It’s been sea-saw since late July, and it will more or less stay that way for the rest of the season. Although, the next week could make or break either the Muts or the Phils.
Our hitting has to wake up. Pedro Feliz is great and all, but we’re in trouble if we have to rely on him for the rest of the season. The Mets have one major issue – their pathetic bullpen. We have a major offensive problem, and starting pitching that’s as bland as a bud-light.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:25 am
Awesome!!! Go Phils!!!!!!!!!!
August 25th, 2008 at 12:26 am
Night everyone… GO PHILS and Feliz Navidad
August 25th, 2008 at 12:26 am
this was a big win…first two games of this series, the team hit and scored runs…this game, phils pulled it out…big momentum swing might be ready to erupt here
August 25th, 2008 at 12:27 am
I honestly think missing Pedro Feliz for those couple weeks were a part of our offensive woes. Having him back in the latter part of the lineup gives us a clutch fastball hitter that we need.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:28 am
Christian, have you seen the Mets bullpen lately? Les Walrond could close for them.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:29 am
Jesus people – quit getting so excited. Take a look at this hard fact: We are 30-30 over our last 60. The Mets are 38-22 over their last 60. Look at the situation last year – it was similar, but in the reverse. Everyone here is suicidal after one loss and ready to go to the world series after one win. No one sees the big picture.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:29 am
“METS”. You very well could be the Queen of France considering you just referred to yourself and the NY Muts as “us pussies”
August 25th, 2008 at 12:29 am
AC, your a go-hard. I come here just to talk to you guys and you go so hard.
It’s only baseball.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:30 am
Tied in the loss column is the most important stat b/c it means you control your own destiny. it’s basically being in a virtual tie.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:31 am
Guys, it’s okay. I work with a Mets fan, and he’s gay too. Just let Tyler and METS vent their hot air. Arguing with them just fans their homosexual flames.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:32 am
Tyler. Its time to beat one off on your Ray Knight bedspread and call it a day. The first day of 9th grade starts sooner than you think.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:32 am
Christian – i hear you. but the bottom line is the Mets have been playing way over their heads, and there is no reason to expect them to continue at that pace over the last 32. Meanwhile, Phils have been underwhelming since mid-June, but maybe just maybe now the proverbial lightbulbs have gone off in their heads. Certainly the team confidence has to be 100% better after the last 3 games.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:33 am
METS – you were so pleasant earlier today, on the other thread. What happened?
August 25th, 2008 at 12:35 am
Hey, it’s 10th grade, not 9th!
August 25th, 2008 at 12:35 am
that guy hit the nail on the head!!! finally, somebody said what needed to be said about tyler. except I don’t think its a ray knight bedspread, it’s probably david wright.
tyler probably goes “Jose-Jose-Jose-Jose” while he’s beating it too.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:38 am
AC – I agree that the Mets have been overachieving, although 60 games is a pretty long time to be overachieving, wouldn’t you say? I just don’t see having great success with Rollins and Howard hitting the way they are hitting. Utley and Burrell need to step it up too, but they’ve been better than the other two. Our starting pitching is what it is, and our bullpen is great. We’re a team that relies on offense.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:43 am
I agree the offense has to turn it around, no doubt. but I’m standing by what I said about the mets…they’ve had a lot of breaks during this streak, but they’ve got just as many issues as the phils – if not more.
1) Easier to come back when no one expects you too – they were chasing for a long time. Now the pressure is really on, we’ve seen before how they handle it.
2) Mets have exerted a lot of energy to get to this point – batteries may run out during september
3) Delgado is on the juice – that’s the only way i can explain frankenstein rising from the dead. but even that experiment fell apart at the end.
4) Who’s the closer for the Mets??? Everytime Heilman goes up their, he grimaces like someone is sticking a 10 foot pole in his ass!!!
5) tatis – coming back to earth now. easley – coming back to earth now. and with Castillo and Church back in the line up, its gonna hurt others timing.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:46 am
And the Mets are having some major injury problems, I guess Maine might be shut down for the season.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:46 am
Nice job Phils! Especially Feliz! Man… that guy can crush a fastball!
August 25th, 2008 at 12:53 am
AC, exactly what needed to be said to me?
1. You started calling me a “troll” once I said it.
2. I said something about you guys jerking off to pics of Charlie Manuel, then you say something about David Wright.
Come up with some original shit.
Paul, I think he will be shut down. As I said earlier, I believe that Maine pitching through the injury will only hurt this team.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:56 am
[# METS Says:
August 25th, 2008 at 12:20 am
yay im a fucking philly fan and were still in second place oh yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]
You know, before the Phils coughed up 1st place, I made this comment when the Phils were losing but remained 1 game ahead of the Mets.
Trust me–it’s a dangerous statement to make.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:58 am
I dunno, man. Bottom line: this is baseball. Anything can happen.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
“Man, you guys are complete hypocrites.”
SJ Mike, who the hell are the hypocrites?! Just a few days ago this blog was the most pessimistic and pretty much looking forward to next year!
