Gamenight: Marlins (59-53) At Phillies (61-50)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Tue, August 05, 2008 05:57 PM
After a 5-1 road trip and a day off, the Phillies get back to business, and a big way: The second-place Marlins come in for a battle at the top.
Moyer The Magnificent: Jamie Moyer is 10-0 against the Marlins, in 10 starts. This season he’s beaten them three times.
Just Joshing: The Phils, however, face Josh Johnson, who took the Phils to the cleaners last time he faced them. He gave up just two runs in 6.2 innings, a win for the Fish. The Marlins are 4-0 in Johnson’s starts.
The Jake: If one Marlins hitter can beat Moyer, it’s Mike Jacobs. The left-handed hitter is .391 with five homers and 10 RBI against Moyer for his career, including two homers this year.
Phillies: Jamie Moyer (10-6) 3.79 ERA
Marlins: Josh Johnson (1-0) 4.18 ERA
Gametime: 7:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 83, cloudy
Lineup:
MLB TV
MLB Gameday Audio
MLB Gameday
Your gamenight beer: The Phils are back home, and I’m going home too — for the beer selection, that is. Here is Rowhouse Red from the Philadelphia Brewing Co, This farmhouse ale has a familiar and easy taste. Which makes sense. A rowhome is familiar, it’s cozy, it’s home. Those of us who grew up in a rowhome (Port Richmond, represent!) would understand.
Go Phillies!

wow no comments 5 innings in? im gonna guess there are server issues
August 5th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Yea, I haven’t been able to get on all night. However, not too much to say other than our terrible offense showed up tonight and Moyer didn’t. Oh, and that catch by Jenkins was ridiculous.
August 5th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
hey moyer did what great pitchers do when they are having an off night, and the ump is killing them. he did a fine job. the phils can’t hit marlins pitching unfortunately.
August 5th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
he’s gotta earn that 5.5 mil somewhere because he definitely isnt at the plate
August 5th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
No, it is the Phils’ offense, not the Internet’s server, that is malfunctioning today. The amount of fastballs they have taken is shocking. I have thrown a plush football at the television after every missed opportunity. We see that many opposing pitchers, like tonight’s guy, just deal to Phils’ hitters. The truth is, the Phils let them deal. They need to use level swings early in the count. Taking pitches does not actually work the count; by putting a scare into the pitchers with frequent swings, the hitters will make the pitchers nibble. But playing the same stodgy baseball against a team that contradicts that adjective just will not suffice.
August 5th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
Yeah, server issues. Oh man, man what a catch by Jenkins and what a throw by Ruiz.
August 5th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
“Jenkins and Ruiz are the worst players in history!” said All of PhilliesNation over the past 6 months.
August 5th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Don M…I always stick up for Ruiz. I’m not going to stick up for Jenkins though. He’s a well above average defensive player, but he has been total shit at the plate aside from a few clutch home runs here and there. CHASE UTLEY YOU ARE THE MAN! Oh, and wtf is up with Tatis? When will he stop thinking he is Babe Ruth?
August 5th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
excuse me, gentlemen, but I was under the impression that metsblog.com was the website that sucked. why is it, then, that philliesnation.com has server issues 12 TIMES EVERY DAY!?!?
August 5th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
Eaton got lit up at AA tonight – 3 1/3 IP, 7 runs, 6 earned.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
The Mets are winning and the Phillies are losing so the Muts trolls start coming out of the wood work. I haven’t seem them here in almost a week, but here they come.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
Eaton fucking sucks.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
how has 2008 Fernando Tatis reverted to 1999 Fernando Tatis….check his vitamin water…..and check the mets parking garage for the delorean
August 5th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Phil, I am no Mets fan, I am just an astute and impartial observer
August 5th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
haha good one R.Mac. I just loled.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Jesus, this is a tough game to watch.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Then why are you even here?
August 5th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
PAT THE BAT!!! I wish Howard didn’t GIDP. This is why I like when he strikes out sometimes.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
You have to be kidding me with that. “One more biscuit for breakfast and that would have been gone.” I’m sure somewhere Sarge is saying that.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Even if the Phils come back and win this, I’m giving the Steve Jeltz to Ryan Howard! Disgraceful in both offense and defense tonight!
August 5th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Because I am a Phillies fan. Is there a “Must be a drinker of Kool Aid” terms and conditions notice I failed to read or something?
August 5th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
metsblog never has serve issues because nobody ever visits that site..
Phil, I know.. im just busting balls… when all these guys knock players for F-ing up, they should give them props for playing well too.. which both of those guys are since the All-Star break.
holla
alright, im out for now.. gotta go paint the LR. .peace ya’ll go Fightin’s.. Condrey -n- Dobbs in ‘08
August 5th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Um…Howard has a single and has walked. Bad offensive night? Okay…
August 5th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Not for nothing, this is the most frustrating fucking game! I find myself going back and forth between this and Poison Ivy 2! Unfortunately I seem to be missing all the good parts!
August 5th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Everytime a Phillies hitter swings at the 1st pitch they should be get fined or some other kind of consequence.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
The demotion of Eaton should have been done long ago. He is just not a fundamental pitcher. But, as R. Mac said, if he were to sip whatever Tatis did, he would become sensational.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Someone, PLEASE drive pat home for an RBI.
josh johnson is HUMILIATING this team and hes coming off of tj surgery. again, they cant get to even a decent starter. johnsons better than decent, but still. this is why they needed a big outfielder to come here in a trade. but its too late now, and we have to hope for some waiver-trash.
AHAHAHAHA, fuck you dobbs. they left the starter in and out elite pinch hitter swung at the first pitch AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
btw..tatis is juicing again, thats how hes productive again.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
The demotion of Eaton should have been done long ago. He is just not a fundamental pitcher. But, as R. Mac implied, if he were to sip whatever Tatis did, he would become sensational.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
This offense makes me sick. Most underachieving and overrated offense in baseball.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
its amazing, this team is just flummoxed by decent or better starting pitching.
im not even going to start talking about jimmy rollins. theyre all sucking tonight. jamie moyer pitched well and they give him no help again.
you CANT lose this game. the only chance they have is to hope the marlins turn to their pen and soon.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
If Tatis is juicing, then is it possible J-Roll was juicing last year? 30 home runs in 2007, only 8 in 2008. What’s up with that?
August 5th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
I see what you are saying, Phil, but they do not swing at enough first pitches, I think. First strikes, I should say. When they do, it is the uppercut swings, not the fact that they have swung at the first pitch, that get them out. I am talking about those fastballs down the middle that should be driven. Why take those? They need to go out and get runs, not wait for them.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
absolutely overrated phil. they look hot to trot against garbage pitching but against even decent pitching they look lost.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
It sucks too Geoff. We have to lead off the inning with Ruiz, and then probably So Taguchi or some shit. Then you got Rollins. That’s probably an automatic 3 outs.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
aww man, theyre breaking out LES WALROND!!!!
August 5th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
the truth hurts…do yourself a favor and look at how many home runs Rollins hits every year. He’s actually not hitting many at all this year. Also, someone that is 5′8″ 150 lbs definitely isn’t juicing.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Yeah, Geoff…they are because Romero is our set up man. hahahahaha Charlie Manuel is such a dumb ass.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
But, Phil, I am with you: this offense is so overrated. And erratic. Doesn’t it make you wonder if they have any game plan at all?
August 5th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Here comes the Walrus.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
@Truth – Not to be pedantic, but it was FLAVOR-AID that got served at Jonestown. Kool-Aid is more famous, but never actually involved in any famous cult rituals.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
does anyone know the song that is played before phillies gmaes when they are doing the lineup??
August 5th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
that didn’t stop FP Santangelo, Phil. and why should i look up how many home runs Rollins hits every year? he was always in the teens until ‘06, when he hit 25, then 30 last year. do you really not see the possibly of juicing?
August 5th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
What’s up with Happ? I feel bad for the guy.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
Good call Joe, it was indeed Grape Flavor-Aid.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
he makes a good point, phil. if they toss a grooved first pitch strike RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE, the phillies lineup will almost all stare at it and wait for garbage to swing at.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
but you understood the reference, correct Joe? My apologies for not being completely up to speed on proper cult procedures.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Yeah, someone as small as Rollins is definitely on roids…Warlond actually looks good.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
holy shit, walrond struck out a major league hitter!
August 5th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Nice, his stuff looks pretty nasty for Lefties to deal with.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
The Walrus looks real good
August 5th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Also truth Rollins hits in a ballpark that my 12 year old brother could hit home runs out of. Tatis hits at Shea.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
When you hear the name les walrond doesn’t it just scream oversized mustache??? Im talking like Goose Gossage sized. He could be lights out from here till the end of the season but in my heart he and his less than impressive facial hair will always be a disappointment.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
I think I like Walrond.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Rollins = 5′8″
Tatis = 5′10″
So it’s the difference of 2 inches that seperates the potential roid users from the non-users. Gotcha.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Geoff, good call. Do you agree with me that pitchers actually know this and settle for mediocre stuff to get the hitters out? Phil, you are right about Happ. This management confuses me sometimes.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
R. Mac, Walrus’s do tend to have mustaches, yes.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
How much does Tatis weigh? How much did Tatis weigh when he was doing roids? I’m not claiming height you fucking moron. I’m talking about weight. Rollins is scrawny. That’s the point I was trying to make. He has a good swing.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
he has good stuff. needs to improve his control
August 5th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Well, I’m getting off for now. Trolls make me sick. I can’t wait for the Muts to be 5 out again so they stop annoying me.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
yeah i think they know the phillies wont swing at first pitch fastballs, but the word is out that theyre all becoming pedro cerranos.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
aww man, now i feel bad for the guy. i hope he buckles down and gets the out.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
i completley regret every positive statement i said about walrus
August 5th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
He definitely needs to improve his control, a lot.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
phils need to get to the marlins bullpen, or this game is over.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
I told you I’m not a Mets fan. I guess it pays to be ignorant like you if it helps you justify your opinions. How much you wanna bet you’re going to be stewing all night because someone disagreed with you on a baseball blog. Wow, what a loser.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
you know what would improve his control? a giant mustache
August 5th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
hey geoff, remember when don said you’re crazy for saying the phils are lucky? well, tonight you’re right. 20 some odd baserunners and only 4 runs = LUCK.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Wow, talk about a tough game to watch. I’ll keep watching, but I’m thinking this game is all but over.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
He didn’t pitch too bad, some bad luck on that last hit.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
See that looping hit? It was an attempt at simple contact, and luck favored the bold. Why can’t the Phils be peskier and more artful?
August 5th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
damnit. well, it was nice knowing you walrond. i hope he does well back down in lehigh, good luck man. time to try another internal option or two before the waiver-trades begin.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Mets 5 Padres 2, Phillies 0 Marlins 4. How’s it goin Phil?
August 5th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Truth, are you the same Truth who frequents the Zo Zone?
August 5th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
yeah youre not kidding mike. if they lost this game then its highly appropriate to break out the phrase again with my full support.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
I think it’s time we start taking these Marlins more seriously. Fuck the Mets, the Marlins are the real players in the NL East. A little Caption Obvious of me, but it had to be said.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
no relation, Joe.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
theyre not even going to use happ, hes just rhowing another bullpen session! haha, cole hamels has to be injured.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
The Truth Hurts, that’s just about right, the Phillies suck!
August 5th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
You told The Truth again. This guys are so athletic and have a chip on their shoulder. They play to win; they are aggressive, passionate, HUNGRY. They do not wait for anything. The Mets have a similar swagger, but the veterans on that team can implode at any time, as they did last year.
Mitch Williams is going to be hearing from me soon. On Post Game Live, the inconsistent hitting needs to be addressed more. Williams was of course no hitter, but he could come out of retirement and still do a better job hitting than these fellas.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Tyler, I really would wait until the Mets are out of 3rd to start talking trash. Do you believe in a thing called karma?
August 5th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
these*. I think that Utley, as well as pretty much all the hitters, might be swinging more with their bodies than with their hands.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Yeah, yeah whatever you say. Wait until the end of August when you’re 7.5 games out of the race.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
what makes you think the Phillies will be 7.5 games out? Especially considering the Mets are down 2 OFs, a SP, and a closer. You’re the ones that just got swept in Houston, and we won 2 of 3 from the Cardinals.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
allright shane!
August 5th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Vic baby.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Oh boy, this should be taken back.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
What unspeakable, perverted, sexual acts does So Taguchi perform on Charlie Manuel? Whatever they are he must be damn good at them because he is a “for shit” baseball player in all aspects of the game.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
1. Were down one outfielder. Tatis is on fire and Church is on his way back.
2. SP? Maine said we could have pitched, the Mets put Maine on the DL just to give him extra time and to bring up Eddie Kunz so they DL’d Maine.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
SHANE!!!!!
August 5th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
1. Were down one outfielder. Tatis is on fire and Church is on his way back.

6-2 Mets Winning, 4-0 Phils Losing
August 5th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Whoever just won the McDonalds HR jackpot knows that dirty money.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Whoever just won the McDonalds HR jackpot knows thats dirty money.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
utley always gets beaned
August 5th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
PLEASE bring out arthur rhodes
August 5th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
thanks for the up-to-the-second updates, Tyler. Aaron Heilman is closing for the Mets tonight, so enjoy that rollercoaster ride. A win is anything but assured with the Mets ragtag bullpen.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
I don’t think there’s any doubt that Victorino is the Phils’ 2nd half MVP thus far. Which is crazy considering how many people on this blog begged for him to be traded prior to the trade deadline.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
tyler just cause you post it alot doesnt make it true you greasy mets fan
August 5th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
tyler will be too busy tearing his hair out watching the mets bullpen try to close a game to make any more posts this evening
August 5th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Attaboy Howard! You stiff!
August 5th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
DAMNIT. that was a ball too.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Heilman: 2on – no out.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
Although you are right about me pulling out my hair. Mets will be fine, worry about you’re Phils.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
wow, i just had a comment removed. can you say COMMUNISM!
August 5th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
6-5 Mets, 3-run homer off Heilman. Time to worry now, Tyler?
August 5th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Tyler, I just worry how effective you are at cleaning out yeast infections
August 5th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Haha, the Mets bullpen is truly awful.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
the truth hurts,
i do not believe Phillies Nation is run by the government.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
http://www.philliesnation.com/comment-policy/
August 5th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Tyler – you suck. So do the Mets. Even if you win tonite, you have no chance with that bullpen. Wagner out, and he sucks anyhow. Heilman is a bum. I bet you are sweating now that it is 6-5, you stupid idiot.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
now, what the hell is the point of this? only bad things can come of this.
i guess just to get him some work. hes NOT a reliever, theyre driving themselves INSANE looking for a loogy. MEMO TO PHILLIES: YOU ALREADY FUCKING HAVE A LOOGY, his name is JC romero. go find a SETUP MAN.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Ruiz has been crap tonight.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Gee is this what happens when the Phils sit one of their hot prospects for two weeks? He turns into Ryan Madson! You think they’d have learned this by now!
August 5th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
these people, gillick, amaro, charlie, must be mentally retarded. why the fuck are you going to screw with the psyche of your young starting pitching prospect to find a role for someone that you already have people to fill when you really need something else and youve wasted weeks on this now. what is their problem?
you keep calling up happ, sending him down, now hes in the bullpen, then he gets a start: do they WANT him to become brett myers? what the hell.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
1 more out and all of you will have nothing to say. 5-2, go fish!
August 5th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Hey Brian Michael:
An exerpt from the policy: “Comments that include strong profanity or personal attacks or other inappropriate comments or material will be removed from the site.”
How many f-bombs, douchebag references, and personal attack on Met fans do we witness on this site without any instance of administrator intervention, but I say one critical thing about the website and it gets removed??? That is incredibly hypocritical and reeks of unprofessionalism. Either make the rules pertain to EVERYBODY, or NOBODY.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Manuel screwed this game up with his pen. He left that crap rookie in for WAY too long, he never should have faced that last guy at the very least.
August 5th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
this is wreckless and disgraceful.
no wonder they havent won a championship in a long time. if youre going to F with happ, then just leave him down in AAA until you need him to START.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Seems like you’re the only one with a problem…
August 5th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Hey truth hurts,
How about you go jeer the Phils on a mets blog you dumbass!
August 5th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
aww man. i saw that look on happs face, they already screwed him up the head, i can tell. damnit charlie.
by the way, if htey dont make the playoffs manuel has to go.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
As per the comment policy, talking trash about Mets fans is perfectly acceptable. Just like you douchebags talk about us Phils fans on your Mets blog. If you dont’ like it, go to your Mets blog and enjoy!
August 5th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
ive seem them get to nelson before.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
I am not a Mets fan, Jamie. Talk trash all you want about the mets, I encourage it. All I care about is that if you are allowed to talk trash about everything, then we should be able to talk trash about this website as well.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
YES! theyre bringing out arthur rhodes!!!! SLOP CITY!
theyd better score at least 4 runs off this guy.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
We couldn’t farm a pitcher to save our lives! I’m amazed Hamels was the success he is! We got a solid starter and Happ and we totally screwed him up already! And then we have Carrasco who is throwing 96 mph fastballs and has a sick change up and curveball, who we refused to trade for Sabathia and we don’t bring him up either! Our farm system is a total disgrace! It’s a wonder guys like Arbuckle and Amaro have jobs let alone be the ones most likely to be running the show next year!
August 5th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
arthur rhodes…..can i get a hell yea?
August 5th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
“My comment is waiting moderation.” Dude, seriously, get a damn life. If you can’t take criticism then you are definitely in the wrong line of work.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Geoff, Rhodes isn’t that bad, especially with the Phils offense playing the way it is. We’ll be lucky to get 1 run off him, and if we do it’ll be a Werth HR.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
thats what im saying. this whole approach, the way they run this team, hasnt changed for 15 years. its cheap cheap cheap. mismanage this, misuse that. these poeple dont know how to run a baseball team anymore. SELL THE TEAM TO SNIDER. seriously. bring in COMPETENT people who are ALLOWED TO TRY TO WIN.
“one thing arthur did with the phillies was walk a lot of batters, since then hes had tommy john surgery.” hahahaha
August 5th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
If you guys spent as much time protecting the server from crashing as you do protecting Muts fans from receiving their just desserts, we might have had updates at the trade deadline. Just kidding, I love the website but WTF!
August 5th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
you’re the one freaking out about a blog, how bout you get a life
August 5th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
If you don’t like the rules of the site then leave. It’s really quite simple.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
moyer is still unbeaten against the fish somehow
August 5th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
HAHAHHAHAHAHA. they couldnt do anything against arthur rhodes. the PHILLIES ARE A PHRAUD!
August 5th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
wow….that was embarrassing
August 5th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
As I was saying, on a night like tonight, this offense will make Rhodes look like a black Steve Carlton.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
You wish you could get rid of me that easily, Brian. It’s amazing the lengths some peopel will go to protect their own ego.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
this team needs a new owner (singular)
this team needs a new front office
this team needs a new farm director and totally new scouts.
this team needs a new manager even though i like charlie
August 5th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
And by the way, I have no problem with the rules. I do have a problem, however, with how selectively they’re being enforced.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
35 sellouts and no increase in payroll this season during the year, as in, at the trade deadline.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
im pretty sure brian could give two craps about you…..now please shutup
August 5th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
and new trainers too.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
yo dude no one cares if your comment got deleted. talk about the game or shut up
August 5th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Everybody relax a bit – phils are still in first, and they’ll do exactly what they did against St. Louis – win the next 2. and they did that without scoring a ton of runs 2-1, then 5-4.
C’mon, Mets bullpen sucks and they’ll lose a few more. Marlins are due for some losing streak too – and they’ll beat up each other at the end of the week while phils get the pirates.
I have a feeling tomorrow night the bats will awaken – stay positive!
August 5th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
and the video graphics department at comcast needs to go too. that will make the team win more games.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
And I’m damn sure I don’t give a crap about you, RMac. Except I’m sure you’d give a crap if this shit were pulled on you. SO why don’t you talk about how much the Phillies suck tonight and mind your business.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
I like this website but wonder about the excessive use of profanity is tolerated. Too many f-bombs and personal attacks. Can’t we discussed without profanity?
August 5th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
they need a k zone really badly
August 5th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
That’s right Truth Hurts, shove it to “the man.”
August 5th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
Well it’s nice to see the only runs we put up in this game was from a long foul ball! LOL!
August 5th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
I don’t care…and it doesn’t look as if anyone else does either.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
a k zone would be nice
August 5th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
ill mind my own buisness as soon as you promise to stop polluting this fine website with your whiney bitch talk
August 5th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
By the way, the Fish look like a tough team down the stretch.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Happ sucks out of the pen.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Fred, you have a point, but sadly that would never happen because 1)too many people have cyber rage, and 2) the administrators are obviously biased and likely promote profanity directed at mets/braves/marlins/yankees fans but delete profanity directed towards themselves. A total hypocracy.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
This has to be the most baserunners in a game, ever. It’s ridiculous.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Happ needs to be back in triple a TOMORROW with what little confidence he has left…..damn it Charlie
August 5th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Dude shut up. Damn right the administrators don’t want Mets fans talkn crap on here. Who woulda guessed?
August 5th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Has Happ even pitched relief in the minors or is this a new experiment?
August 5th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
This game is disgraceful
August 5th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Wow, game over. Send Happ back down, the bullpen is not the place for him.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Charlie Manuel, Pat Gillick, Ruben Amaro Jr., and Mike Arbuckle should ALL BE FIRED!
August 5th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
they just ruined happ tonight. hes gotten beaten around.
you understand charlie? ja happ is a starter, not a reliever, you fucking retard. you dont do shit like this, this is EXACTLY how you mess people up in the head. theyve bounced Happ all over the place. what a piece of shit organization the phillies are
August 5th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
why does it seem like everybody is giving Happ a pass here? It’s still about execution…he isn’t getting it done.
It’s not like he’s come in with men on base here.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
OK, Chutley, let’s pick a different topic to appease you. Here’s a question: why is JA Happ being used as a mop up reliever when he’s better than two-fifths of the current rotation?
August 5th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
I wouldn’t mind keeping Happ around. Im not completely sold on Myers or Blanton as startes just yet
August 5th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
dude, ja happ shouldnt be in this game. hes a starter
he has NEVER been a reliever at the major league level before, so why should be be forced into this role in a divisional game?
this is wreckless and stupid. charlie is now on my radar for this. hes on the hot seat with me.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
Why bring Happ up if you’re not going to start him? And then they let him sit for a week. Does anyone on this team have an actual pitching plan?
August 5th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Chutley, but what do you do with him while we wait for Myers or Blanton to collapse? Just send him down to AAA as a starter, then if we do NEED him, then bring him up. You don’t bring him up and then just throw him in the bullpen.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
now you worry about putting happ in as a starter because his head is all messed up now.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
fuck
i hate the way these fucking idiots run shit. ja happ is going to be gavin floyd now: traded in the offseason only to be reborn elsewhere as a number 3 starter.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
everything about the phillies management sucks.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
can Ruiz figure out a way to GIDP with no outs and nobody on???
August 5th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Happ gets a pass tonight because the Phils have been mucking around with him since July and have done a terrible job placing him anywhere! If your not brining him up to start, don’t bring him up! The man threw a no hitter in Lehigh Valley a few weeks back and now we sit him in our bullpen and don’t give him any work and expect him to be lights out! Because we don’t want to waste money that we’re spending on Myers and Blanton who are mediocre at best!
Happ is a great pitcher and the Phils shattered his confidence and I’m not sure he gets it back without getting sent back. And who knows when we see him again!
August 5th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
We’ll the Phils went from being down 2 runs to 6 runs because Uncle Charlie puts a starter in for relief and leaves in in even after he gives up runs…This organization is such idiots for keeping him around.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
i mean this is worse management/ general management than the pirates. seriously.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
see that’s what i hate almost the most with the offense – why does Coste have to swing on the first pitch here…
August 5th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
becase they already mailed it in because the only person that showed heart tonight in the lioneup was shane
August 5th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Can someone please work the count?
August 5th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
mercifully over. the sun will come out tomorrow.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
and you have to rely on callups and waiver-trash to fix it now, ahahahahaha
August 5th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
I believe the Happ situation is out of Charlie’s hands. Someone on high is pulling the strings.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
everybody on the team needs to have some tatis drink before bed….tomorrow is another day fellas….go phils
August 5th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Don’t worry, Gillick’s working a blockbuster waiver wire deal for a #4 starter.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Well that is what we get when they let a young pitcher just sit around with his thumb up his ass waiting to get in a game. Good job Phils
August 5th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
I think JA HApp’s confidence will be fine. He has only thrown 41 pitches (2 + innings) in the past 2 weeks. They just need to use him more so he can get his location back.
August 5th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
don’t think howard deserves the jeltz award tonight. haven’t looked at the box score but i think some other guys were more deserving
August 6th, 2008 at 1:45 am
Moyer had control problems but still kept the Phils in the game. What a shame that the offense slept through another game. Walrond and Happ were horrible, but at least maybe they gave J.C. and Durbin the night off. That may pay off down the road.
August 6th, 2008 at 2:50 am
late night
August 6th, 2008 at 8:55 am
Thats correct, fred. They are forcing him to use happ as a reliever because of their insane search for a left-handed reliever. thye auditioned happ and walrond last night, IN AUGUST, IN THE MIDDLE OF A DIVISIONAL GAME, and mike arbuckle was on there this morning talking about how theyre still looking for one.
this is madness with gillick. theyre actually losing it. they have one right in front of their faces and they cant see it. romero was primarily the loogy last year and he was awesome in that role. you need a SETUPMAN, which is what theyve always needed since gordon sputtered. its so simple and they cant grasp it. its unbelievable. first it was the starting pitching, now its this. its like the eagles with the wide recievers. mental midgetry at its finest.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:59 am
Why would Howard get the Jeltz award? He actually got a hit unlike the rest of the team that didn’t.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:01 am
When I heard Arbuckle on Angelo this morning I almost threw my clock radio across the room! The man is clueless!
August 6th, 2008 at 9:02 am
And Howard gets the Jeltz because his hit was meaningless as was his walk and his other at bats, I mean strike outs, were ugly as hell. Not to mention his horrendous fielding.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:07 am
the guy went out there and bullshitted his way out of the questions he was asked. are you worried about cole hamels? no, of course not.
what? cole hamels is one of the most overused pitchers in mlb.
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/sortable/index.php?cid=204015
he ranks 8th in mlb in pitcher abuse points. the guys ahead of him are all guys that are beasts (sabathia) or guys that are probably going to blow out their arm. you cant abuse young pitchers like that. you have to manage them and let them gradually increase their innings over 3-4 years when theyll be fully matured and able to become beasts and log 220 innings by age 27-28. instead, the way theyre handling him, hamels will need TJ surgery in 2 years unless they sstart handling him properly.
but thye mishandled gavin floyd and theyre mishandling ha happ now too so this is no surprise.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:23 am
exactly geoff. that’s certainly a part of the equation when i say, “the phillies are not a good team right now.” it’s not just the way they’re playing at the moment, it’s many things. clubhouse personalities, GM approach, GM attitude, owners role, scouting, farm scouting, etc. on paper, this team is good – but take a closer look. the phillies you see on tv is only a tiny fraction of the answer to their non-success.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:26 am
JA Happ – what could have been…..
August 6th, 2008 at 9:27 am
right on. it takes about, 10-20 people to put 1 player on the field at the major league level. those people can have a great influence on how those players perform, and in this organization, about half of those people are incompetent, arrogant, or arent committed to win. when you have all that negative energy around the players, they can tell what these people are all about and that has an impact on some players, espeically in crunchtime.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:03 am
I couldn’t give the Jeltzie to Happ, at risk of further shattering his confidence…
Howard had a K in a big situation, not to mention a double-play and an error.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:53 am
This entire organization sucks… I want to know who the F is responsible for putting together a bunch of winning seasons in a row!!! And then I say fire those people immediately, because the don’t know what they are doing !!!
