Gamenight: Marlins (60-53) At Phillies (61-51)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Wed, August 06, 2008 06:03 PM
A loss brought the Phils and their fans back to Earth. The Phils, now 1.5 games above the Marlins in the NL East, will take the Fish on in the second of a three-game series.
Krap: Last time Kyle Kendrick faced the Marlins, he gave up seven runs, the most he has given up all season.
Sanchez Paper: Anibal Sanchez is making his second start of the season tonight. His first one was pretty goo: He went 5.2 innings and gave up two runs in a 12-2 blowout of the Rockies.
Eric The Not-So-Great: Since his three-hit game filling in for Jimmy Rollins against the Mets, Eric Bruntlett has had just two hits (.090). Bruntlett is starting tonight.
Phillies: Kyle Kendrick (9-5) 4.59 ERA
Marlins: Anibal Sanchez (1-0) 3.18 ERA
Gametime: 7:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 86, partly cloudy
Lineup: Rollins/Victorino/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Jenkins/Coste/Bruntlett/Kendrick

Your gamenight beer: Another Philadelphia pick, this is Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Red Ale, brewed in Belgium for Monk’s Cafe in Philly. For those who haven’t been, go to Monk’s, have some Belgian beer and get randy. Eat some of Monk’s famous mussels with it.
Go Phillies!

Brett Favre Update:
” A source close to Brett claims that Brett indeed loves apples. Headed to the Big Apple? Mort, whats the latest? ”
“Well Cindy, it is a fact that the apple core we picked out of Brett’s trash was his DNA. All signs point to New York being the best fit.”
“In other non-important news, Jeff Karstens comes four outs away from a perfect game, but who cares, how about that apple? Interesting or what? As Doyle Brunson would put it, thats a ‘tell,’ or is he bluffing? World Series of Poker on every Tuesday at nine, don’t miss it on the fake sports news channel, ESPN.”

August 6th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Surely not a lot of comments tonight, with the server and all. No worries. LA just called Chad Durbin “The Bridge.” Ugh.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Mike Cervenak! Congratulations!
August 6th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
This is eerily quiet tonight. Phils look good so far!
August 6th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
The folks only get chatty when there’s doom and gloom. People are always quick to criticize, but short on compliments. Funny what a difference of 24 hours makes.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
I hope they dont run Durbin for both the 7th and 8th. This guy’s arm will fall off before October I’m afraid.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
very true, truth.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
nobody cares about the nfl anymore.
this is a good performance so far tonight by the phils
August 6th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Chad’s wife emailed me this article from Delaware on Line from yesterday.
http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080805/SPORTS01/808050355
Being a Dad, thought you might like this, I did!
August 6th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Mr. Durbin, do you have any other kids that can pitch you can send our way? Anything will help!
August 6th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Pat gone to the bench again…I’d be pissed if I were him
August 6th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
No such luck! A beautiful daughter. Chad is it! No JD is not the other one.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Very nice article. He seems happy in Philly, and I for one hope they can sign him long-term in the off-season.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
I knew JD wasn’t related. It shows on the mound, too!
August 6th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
I felt guilty even making the JD comment. Sorry! I hope he gets it together.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
I was worried after the article and the comment Chad might implode and I would be the idiot….
Great Job.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:30 pm

Go Phils!
August 6th, 2008 at 9:31 pm

August 6th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
why was never cervenak called up before? he had 20+ hrs and batted over .300 a few times in the minors.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
So Gary Cohen on SNY just talked about how Eddie Kunz (of the Muts) hasn’t allowed a homer since his Freshman year at Oregon State (he’s 22 now) …what happend right afterwards you say??? Some no name on the Fathers hits a bomb off him. LOVE IT!
August 6th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
CZ is in love with big fat women with thick dicks.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
i just checked his stats and this looks like its a career year for chad durbin
August 6th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Nice Win! Now lets take the series!
August 6th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Hey guys, Going to my first Phillies games the 22nd against the Dodgers, any suggestions on what me and my girlfriend should do or go?? Also, She wanted to know what 2 players are best friends
August 6th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Durbin deserves a raise. And his dad, too! Nice work yet again by the bullpen, great job by Kendrick who has rebounded nicely from his poor start a few back, and nice to see the offense coming around a little better than last night. Let’s take this series!
August 6th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
JJ23, what do you mean “what 2 players are best friends?” Are you asking who on the team are friends with each other? I know there are several, but Howard and J-Roll are very close friends (Howard at one time lived with Rollins, although I don’t know if they still do). I know Burrell and Utley are close, and Victorino is close with Howard. I don’t know if that’s what you mean though.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Ya thanks alot Jamie.. apperciate it. Anywhere to go??? Anything we have we have to do at the park??? Also, how far is the “Rocky” steps
August 6th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Gotta love how this race is gonna turn out down the stretch if we play the same ball we played tonight. Of course we aren’t gonna shut the opponent out every night but the hustle and defense was there too. How about Bruntlett, Ashburn? How close was Howard to three home runs tonight, all opposite field. One went, One hit the top of the wall, and the other was about 4 feet short. Dude’s got some serious pop. We need to lock Durbin up, I have a feeling we will in the offseason but don’t want to take the chance of him leaving for more paper because we all know how the management is with pitchers.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
JJ23, try to make it for batting practice if you can, don’t know if your girlfriend will enjoy it but it’s a great thing to do. The players are pretty interactive down the 1st base line. There really isn’t anything you must do at the ballpark except eat and watch the game. Maybe get her an ice cream in a mini phillies helmet, if shes into that kind of thing. Howard and Rollins are definitely the closest on the team by the way.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
theyll give chad durbin something like what romero got. 3 years 12mm
August 6th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Spring Training is the best for player interactions, IMHO. I had several conversations with players and coaches down in Clearwater (or at away games) that were just hanging out before/during/after BP and whatnot. Great for getting pictures, autographs, etc. At the Bank, I’d agree with TJ that you’d want to get there early if you want to get close enough to interact with them or photos. Get yourself a nice cheese steak too!
August 6th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
I am hereby sad to report that the Muts lost tonight. May God have mercy on their souls.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
O my GF is a HUGE baseball fan, she wants to do everything and make a philly phantic. and get a souviner or something
August 6th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Props to Krazy Kyle! Great game! He’s Jamie Moyer’s protoge, you can tell!
August 6th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Hey do they sell the Old-school school with players names and #s on it?? What time does BP start TJ or Jamies???
August 6th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Thanks guys for all your help guys, anyone else going to that game?
WE are sitting in HArry the K’s part of the field Mid-level. any good
August 6th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
How does Kendrick put 9 guys on base in 6 IP and still get the shutout? He consistently gets out of trouble, which is great, but it never ceases to amaze me. What are batters hitting against him with RISP? It must be dirt low.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
There really isnt a bad seat in the ball park, mid level is my personal favorite ( other than the Diamond Club.) Batting practice is usually about 1hr 15min before the game, try to get there by then I guess. The player I usually have the most yelling back and forth with is Victorino.
August 6th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
Nice, I like Shane hes a decent player,, I like the Phillies chances I hate the METS o boy do I hate them.. So for my 1st game you guys have really helped. if you can think of anything thats a must see/do please tell me. We are hear for 2 days. We are going to Dave and Busters and to run the steps at the Museum
August 6th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Dave and Busters is awesome, hands down. The steps can get old real quick, so make dinner plans after that or something, just have something to do after that. haha
August 6th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
Thanks TJ. Im a huge ROCKY fan I coach and make my players watch them so I wamt them to see I did it u know??? Before the game starts can you freely move around the stadium inside until the game starts
August 6th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
You can walk around anywhere you want until about 15 minutes before the first pitch when people start to settle into their seats, they might ask you for your ticket if your down close to the field but thats pretty much the only restriction. This is only for the infield seats though. You can walk around the stadium to get concessions and stuff all game though if thats what your asking.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
ooo wow thanks. I heard to wait to eat out-side for the best philly steak sand?? any truth?? or what should we have to eat inside and outside??? Is hard to build-a phantic i have a 18month old niece and wanna get her one
August 6th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
At the park there’s Steve’s (is that right?), who is supposedly Jim’s son. It’s like Jim’s, I believe. You don’t need those steaks. I’d just eat at one of the known places in South Philly before the game.
Those known places are Geno’s and/or Pat’s, the big steak places in South Philly. As you’re touristing, I’d recommend going to these places first. Go to Pat’s. Better steak, IMO.
But if you don’t want to do them, head to Jim’s Steaks on South St.
Pat’s and Geno’s are places where you order outside and can eat at a table around the place. But sometimes the tables are all taken up. At Jim’s you order inside and eat inside, if seating is available (upstairs is always nice).
Lines are long at all places.
August 7th, 2008 at 12:10 am
great win tonight in a must win game. now to win tomorrow to win the must win series. kendrick has pitched well all season long, and for some reason his name continuously comes up as the one guy on here (and other boards i post on) who would get booted for another starter. never understood that. kendrick is no great shakes but he’s a very solid #4/5 starter. i’d love to see him in that role with the phillies for years to come.
as for durbin, they HAVE to resign him. i know gillick’s policy is to not discuss contracts during the season, but he said he’d make an exception for lidge and burrell. well now it looks like it won’t happen for burrell (while gillick’s here), so you know what? make an exception for chad instead. if you were going to give out an MVP for the season so far he would have to be my #2 choice after lidge.
also, as someone said, great game for bruntlett both on offense and defense. getting a well rounded utility guy like him and freakin brad lidge for bourn and geary was such a steal on gillick’s part, it blows my mind.
