Gamenight: Phillies (59-50) At Cardinals (62-50)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Sat, August 02, 2008 06:18 PM
After a bad game and loss to the Cardinals, the Phillies will turn to Joe Blanton to right the ship against Saint Louis.
OK, Joe: Sunday, Joe Blanton went just two innings and gave up two runs to the Braves. A rain delay after the second inning stopped him, and he didn’t return.
Hung For A Loop: Braden Looper last faced the Phillies July 10, and lost, 4-1. He gave up four runs in six innings in that game.
We Want A Pitcher And Hitter: Looper is hitting .293 this season.
Lining Up: Despite facing a righty, Jayson Werth is starting tonight in right field. Greg Dobbs is in the lineup tonight, playing third base.
Phillies: Joe Blanton (5-12) 5.13 ERA
Cardinals: Braden Looper (10-8) 4.38 ERA
Gametime: 7:15 p.m. EST
Weather: 86, sunny
Lineup: Rollins/Victorino/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Werth/Dobbs/Coste/Blanton

Your gamenight beer: A creamy, dense beer, Herold Bohemian Black Lager is what it says — a black lager. It’s not heavy, however; black lagers run the gamut, and usually are light. This one is perfect with dessert, such as a chocolate truffle. Tonight, we go bohemian.
Go Phillies!

August 2nd, 2008 at 7:04 pm
I thought this game was national? I thought it was ESPN?
August 2nd, 2008 at 7:05 pm
Blanton needs to show something tonight.
August 2nd, 2008 at 7:05 pm
Tomorrow night is ESPN.
August 2nd, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Yep, we save our best pitcher Myers for the big nationally televised games.
August 2nd, 2008 at 7:09 pm
Maybe they’re showcasing Myers for one of PG’s big waiver wire deals.
August 2nd, 2008 at 7:31 pm
what channel is it tonight
August 2nd, 2008 at 7:46 pm
I thought Blanton was an innings eater. He seems to throw alot of pitches each inning so far.
August 2nd, 2008 at 7:59 pm
50 pitchs 22 balls……
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:02 pm
5 Ks ain’t bad so far. Crazy strike zone.
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:05 pm
Evening chaps.
Being from Europe i’m several hours aheae of you and most probably several drinks ahead of you. Having attended a wedding and celebrated my birthday [ not my wedding] today i’m no doubt several dozen drinks ahead of you.
So letssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss go Phils.
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Big Fella!!!
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:07 pm
HOWARD!
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:08 pm
Blanton is getting a 3 ball count in way too many at bats. And it seems to me that the strike zone is very liberal tonight,
This guy reminds me of Popeye for some reason?????
Nice dinger Ryan!!!!!
GO PHILLIES!!!!!

August 2nd, 2008 at 8:13 pm
Indeed. I’ve only just realised that it was Blanton not Myers pitching.

August 2nd, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Just got here and put the game on. Is Blanton dishing tonight or what? His line looks solid.
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:27 pm
Whats with Looper?
Is he auditioning for a role as the Joker in the next Batman film. Everyimr the MLB game day camera pans to him he;s got a manic grin on his face.
and Yes Blaton is dealing tonight.
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:30 pm
I knew Blanton wasn’t a total scumbag. This is awesome to see.
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:32 pm
He was the A’s opening day starter. He CAN’T be that bad.
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:33 pm
when he has his stuff he can be very effective. hes doing a very nice job so far tonight.
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Watching games on MLB.COM game day i get my fair few turns of hearing opposition commentators. To be honest with you if i hear one more ‘out of town’ commantry team mention that it took Chris Coste 75 years to reach the majors and he wrote a book about it, I’ll well harm the nearest puppy so help me god.
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:36 pm
This is the money inning here, obviously.
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Chaps. It may look as though we traded for an opening day starter.
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:48 pm
someone shoot ludwick
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:55 pm
Just wondering but CY Young = Lidge?
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:57 pm

August 2nd, 2008 at 8:57 pm
If he goes 45/45, and we make the playoffs, uh, yeah!
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Comeon Jimmy make it hurt!
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:06 pm
damn you bruntlett
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:06 pm
3 hits and 2 runs. Hopefully it’ll be enough.
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:09 pm
Kudos to you Joe Blanton! Other than going deep into too many at bats – flat out awesome job!
Let’s hope 1 run is enough.
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:09 pm

c’mon JC earn some of that $4m
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:09 pm

August 2nd, 2008 at 9:17 pm
This Mather guy makes me nervous. I watched him destroy the Braves this week.
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Thanks ped. Its up again. Might have frozen with the pitching change.
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Did you hear the idiot announcers just say Chad played LSU football?
I am always stunned at how crappy announcers are today.
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Looks like if you pitch this guy away you should get him out.
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:20 pm
chad durbin for president!
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:21 pm

August 2nd, 2008 at 9:22 pm
A little Geico action.
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Joe, thanks for giving us Chad.
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:23 pm
was durbin with the tigers when they went to the world series?
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:23 pm
St. Louis guys also said Durbin was drafted by Minn. I thought it was KC?? Maybe they’re thinkng JD.
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:23 pm
FYI, The ESPN MLB Gamecast ran this stat at the bottom of the page. Chance of scoring 2+ runs with 0 on and 0 out is 13.33%. I’m not a calculus major but……
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:24 pm
i think he was
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Ryan Franklin didnt pitc this good for one batter when he was a PHil.
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Craig…are there any good Phillies bars where you’re at?
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Chad was with AAA the year Detroit went to the world series. There were a couple of bites by teams as he was having a great year. Detoit kept saying we are bringing you and up. They did, too late to be eligible for the playoffs.
They gave a championship ring though as he pitched in three games in September.
Some searches show Chad as having been with Pittsburgh. A lot of wrong info sites out there.
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Nail biter! Damn did we need this win!
Lights Out Lidge!!!!!
GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!!
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:44 pm

August 2nd, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Sorry Tim,,,, but are you still favoring Bruntllett staryting over Dobbs?
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:46 pm
I’m at the grey lodge. I was hoping to celebrate a phils W with dogfish 90, but they are all out. So, I’m going with la fin du monde. We need to get our intinerary together for the bus trip Timothy!
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:47 pm
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Blanton has added some spice to this blog, was it the wrong move? Who knows, but Phils win tonight! Oh yeah!
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Great game…to all Met fans out there…… Lets go Phils … I guess this is why they got Blanton
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:52 pm
The Phillies gotta re-sign Durbin.
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:57 pm
kudos to Gillick for once for signing Durbin….these close games are not good for my constitution….but, better than a loss.
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:59 pm

August 2nd, 2008 at 10:00 pm
The mets lost?…how terrible..

August 2nd, 2008 at 10:08 pm
I love when Wagner blows it…hahahaha
August 2nd, 2008 at 10:12 pm

August 2nd, 2008 at 10:12 pm
Well done Blanton. I knew he could pitch like this.
August 2nd, 2008 at 10:15 pm
i would love to see the Mets slip further back tonight
August 2nd, 2008 at 10:32 pm
mets lose!
August 2nd, 2008 at 10:35 pm
AWESOME job by blanton, he was dealing tonight. he did a really nice job. THIS is why they got him and if he can do that every time out then well be in decent shape. but thats the issue. can he do that every time, as you see, he has very good stuff when he locates it properly.
August 2nd, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Geoff nobody does it every time …but hey…enjoy tonight ..this is what its all about when your team comes through
August 2nd, 2008 at 10:46 pm
