Gamenight: Phillies (60-50) At Cardinals (62-51)

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Sun, August 03, 2008 07:12 PM

Brett Myers gets his real test of his second time around in the rotation as he faces the Cardinals tonight on the worldwide stage (be prepared to see that overused Albert Pujols-stretching-from-wide-angle-lens shot a couple times tonight).

Being Brett: Against the Mets Myers went five innings and gave up three runs while walking five. Against the Nationals he went seven innings and gave up no (earned) runs while walking one. The Cardinals are a pretty good offense, right with the Mets. Myers needs to pitch better than that Met start to show he belongs in the rotation.

Speaking Of Offenses: The Phillies have scored 551 runs, good for second in the National League. They’re slugging .444, best in the league. They’ve hit 155 home runs, best in baseball. But they’re hitting a mere .257, eighth-best in the NL. Talk about homer-happy.

100 Club: With four more RBI, Ryan Howard will earn his third-straight 100-RBI season. He’s projected to have 141.

MVP: Chad “Dim the Lights” Durbin has had an ERA over 2.00 for just 11 days this season. His ERA has never climbed above 2.70.

Here’s The Pitch: The Phillies’ pitching staff saw its ERA dip to 3.99 after Saturday night’s one-run performance.

The Todd: Last time the Phils faced Todd Wellemeyer they blitzed him for eight runs in under four innings — the infamous 20-run massacre at Busch.

Phillies: Brett Myers (4-9) 5.46 ERA
Cardinals: Todd Wellemeyer (8-4) 4.13 ERA

Gametime: 8:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 86, mostly sunny

Your gamenight beer: Is there any better American brewery, pound for pound, than the Sierra Nevada company? I can be partial to Sam Adams (being a Boston collegiate), but Sierra Nevada is never wrong. From the India Pale to the Stout to the Celebration Ale (I need to have this) to their Harvest ales, they’re champions of the craft. Here is the Brown Ale, another victory from the California company. Tonight is the perfect night for a Sunday night barbecue. Stoke the coals, turn on that radio (sadly, no Harry) and break open some Brown Ales with those glazed ribs, those burgers.

Go Phillies!

  1. Brian Michael Says:

Believe it or not, I don’t much care for Sierra Nevada…

  2. R.Mac Says:

    Not a fan either.

  3. Sean P. Says:

Some fun facts about run differential:

While the Phillies(+76) have the second best in the national league to the Cubs (+134). I thought it was interesting to see the Marlins are (-23)!

And, There are only 4 teams in the American League w/ negative run differentials.

  4. fred Says:

It’s a shame we waste alot of runs on blowouts, such as the afformentioned 20 run massacre. Would be nice to save some up for the big games when we need them. Let’s go Brett, keep turning it around

  5. R.Mac Says:

    why is vic not playing?

  6. Richie Allen Says:

Tim, try Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale if you can find it….
    Its great

  7. that guy Says:

Where are Rivlez, Joshua and all those other polesmokers? Now that the Mets have started to soil their bed linens again, these cockroaches have started hiding under the floorboards and swimming in the trash juice.

  8. Pat Says:

i don’t put too much stock in run differential. did you feel more comfortable in one of those blowouts or last night’s 2-1 game.

It is pretty telling in one run games however. It’s not surprising that the angels lead the majors in saves considering how low their run differential is when compared to other teams such as the cubs or red sox.

  9. Richie Allen Says:

That Guy,Hopefully they will be gone to forlorn met blogland, with their champion Billy Wagner

  10. Keith Says:

Carlos Carrasco had a pretty nice debut tonight at AAA

    6.2 IP 2R 0ER 2BB 4K 102pitches 67 for strikes

  11. Keith Says:

    oh and 6 hits allowed

  12. Gavin Says:

Joe Morgan just said that he’s never seen Brett Myers pitch a bad game!! Hahahahahahahahahaha! He’s such a professional. What a douche.

Anyone know why Vic is out?

  13. Keith Says:

i am thinking its just a day off

  14. philsphan Says:

    Joe Morgan is an idiot.

  15. Gavin Says:

I hate the Phils on Sunday Night baseball.

  16. phils Says:

    radio solves the espn problem

  17. Geoff Says:

espn hasnt been respectable since they lost the nhl rights.

  18. Geoff Says:

vic is out because gillick is trying to trade him but nobody told gillick that the trade deadline has already passed.

  19. phils Says:

goeff agreed i think they should get it back soon

  20. Geoff Says:

yeah that makes espn more legitimate.

  21. Jamie Says:

Victorino is just having a night off.

  22. Jamie Says:

Myers looked effectively wild in the second, but he looks much better this inning. What do you guys think?

  23. Joe Says:

@That Guy: The Mets fans are in retreat. Keep an eye peeled for the Marlins fan, who may leave his blog to join us for some company. He dislikes eating alone.

  24. Geoff Says:

they gotta start beating up wellemeyer, he is total garbage.

  25. phils Says:

the lineup is inept in all fassets of the game

  26. Jamie Says:

Mets fan are likely icing their groins after getting kicked in the balls all weekend by the powerhouse Astros. Things to look forward to if you’re a Mets fan: Maine’s shoulder is fine and he wont’ miss any starts (oops…maybe he will :) ), Pedro is back and in his old Pedro form (oops, maybe he’s not either), the bullpen will get better (can they really get worse?), and Wagner “should be fine.”

On another note, someone should take a sniper shot at this fucking Ludwick prick. He’s beginning to ire me.

  27. phils Says:

we need to get a hitter

  28. Geoff Says:

well, for the teams sake, theyd better hope they find someone off the WAIVER WIRE that can provide power and consistency.

  29. Geoff Says:

and dont forget, theyre going to keep wasting time looking for the LOOGY taht they alreayd have when they should be looking for a setupman but its too late because how god of a setupman can you find off the waiver wire?

unless you get myers to do it

  30. Fred Says:

A hitter like Manny? Ooops, that’s right, the Dodgers got him for a bag of balls.

  31. phils Says:

pitching is out the question a hitter with a big contract on a team that is out of the race isnt

  32. MA Phanatic Says:

well if you take Ryan Ludwick out of the game, I’d say Myers is pitching extremely well. Even with Ludwick he’s got his command tonight, I think at one point throwing 22 strikes vs 8 balls. (not sure what the ratio is at this point). Now if our offense could just hit. I’m telling you why can’t we hit when our pitchers throw well? It’s like they can only hit when the pitchers give up 8 runs..so frustrating..

  33. Greg V. Says:

What’s worse? The game or the coverage? It’s a toss up!

  34. Geoff Says:

u cant believe they havent scored on wellemeyer yet, thats insane

  35. Pat Says:

MA, with your logic, I question the call to send Myers and now Eaton down to the minors… Just saying.

  36. Mike T. Says:

I’m hating so many things about this game.

  37. danny Says:

Chase Utley Slumping again? What is the deal man- can you show up in a big series, just for an AB!?

  38. phils Says:

litsening to joe morgan talk out of his ass and john miller feeding him with shit to talk about. THis is eSpN worst telecast of any sport

  39. Mike T. Says:

They keep saying, “the catcher” – they don’t even know his fucking name – if it was the yankees or red sox they’d be all over everyones jock… i can’t even watch this anymore.

  40. danny Says:

I suppose I’m not the only one who is disgusted with only winning 1/3 against the best teams, first place or not. I’d rather stumble against turd-like Houston than lay down and score 5 runs in 23 innings against a contender.

  41. fred Says:

The hitting stinks tonight. This is why we needed Manny or Holliday, or even Bay; good proffesional hitters who don’t just beat up on weaklings.

  42. danny Says:

    Right said fred.

    RIGHT?!

    Haha. That made me happy.

  43. phils Says:

    Utley disapears every august, september

  44. Phil Says:

Can we chalk up Ludwick to the list of Phillies killers? I think the offense forgot their bats again this series. And that is why I wish Howard could play defense.

  45. danny Says:

    FIRST BALL WERTH, WOWSERS

  46. Phil Says:

    I know, it’s rare Danny.

  47. danny Says:

Phil, you are so right to the nth power dude. That’s why Howard doesn’t get the big money, and Albert does (and for some other reasons of course)

  48. Phil Says:

CHASE UTLEY! YOU ARE THE MAN!!!

  49. danny Says:

JON MILLER: THE WORST HOMERUN CALL EVER! “Chase Utley………… to right……………………………… wait, it’s gone!”

  50. Mike T. Says:

    There he isssssssssssss..

  51. Phil Says:

Howard wants A-Rod money…learn to play defense like Pujols and hit .300 a year and get back to me.

  52. Fred Says:

Manny went 8 for 13 with 5 RBIs since joining the Dodgers. He sure would have looked good in Phillies red. But I guess Gillick was too busy concentrating on that blockbuster of a deal for that number 4 starter he had lined up.

  53. Mike T. Says:

haha danny it was so bad

  54. Pat Says:

Heh… he disappeared right to the dug out. Thanks for the laugh, Phil!

  55. danny Says:

The Pujols story is pretty awesome though. He played at community college and was completely unheralded. What an easy guy to make your favorite player in any sport if he’s on your team.

  56. Phil Says:

Gillick said he had something in the works for Manny. He was probably waiting to see if the Mets or Marlins made a move. I guess he figures we can win the division if they don’t make a move…well, winning the division isn’t good enough.

  57. Phil Says:

Albert Pujols is hands down the best hitter in baseball right now, and might go down as one of the best ever.

  58. danny Says:

I’m okay with not getting Manny. I just want Kenny F’ing Lofton.

  59. danny Says:

Is it me or has Jimmy made some great knock downs this series? But he just can’t get the handle.

  60. Mike T. Says:

todd wellemeyer is such a fraud, i can’t believe we look this bad. so far, I think our inconsistent offense is a bigger issue than our starting pitching. but you shouldn’t have to make offensive trades because we have the guys, they just don’t produce – this is such an embarrassment.

  61. Phil Says:

I can give 2 shits about Brett Favre. We are watching a baseball game.

  62. joe morgan sucks Says:

Hey aginst the pads we are on espn again

  63. Fred Says:

    Best hitter ever? Teddy Ballgame

  64. Phil Says:

I didn’t say Pujols is the best, but he is one of the best. If he continues at this pace he’ll go down as top 10.

  65. NEPA Says:

Great turn there by Utley. Maybe we can get another run or 2 now.

  66. Fred Says:

    Agreed – Pujols is tough.

  67. Grrrumpy Miner Says:

Well Joe and “that guy” I am wright here. The Inepts deserved to lose this weekend vs the meek disastros. The Bullpen is a disaster now and is a main weakness. A 1 and 5 road trip was INEXCUSABLE.With the trade deadline come and gone and no pen help….Omar is going to be shown the door if the Inepts don’t make the playoffs. Its still August 3rd,and the hunt for October is FAR from over.

  68. Geoff Says:

YES! ron villone sucks, time to pounce

  69. Keith Says:

hopefully victorino comes in to pinch hit

  70. Geoff Says:

youd think the mets would bring in some garbage to the bullpen last week just to let the garbage they have in there get some reast sometimes. but they didnt even do that

  71. danny Says:

    Paging Dr. Jenkins

  72. Grrrumpy Miner Says:

As an Amazins fan,I still sleep well are night……win or lose.

  73. danny Says:

Villone’s undressing Burrell with his eyes there.

  74. Keith Says:

we really need to have dobbs or coste do something to give myers a lead so they dont take him out

  75. Greg V. Says:

Great pinch hit Shane! So Tagguchi could have done that! Oh wait, he would have grounded to a DP. Nevermind.

  76. danny Says:

    The Miner is already drunk.

  77. Mike T. Says:

anyone see burrells face? it pretty much said, “are you serious shane? you can’t get a hit off of ron fucking villone?”

  78. Andy Says:

Maybe we should send Villone the Burrell pic from this site.

  79. danny Says:

    Hahaha Mike.

  80. Geoff Says:

hahaha, larussa has alreayd seen enough of villone.

  81. Keith Says:

wow they actually realized there was a game going on finally

  82. Pat Says:

what the hell man. where’s my favre update. I want to know when that man takes a piss damnit

  83. Keith Says:

Joe is really sucking Manny’s Dick tonight

  84. Mike T. Says:

who do we have off the bench? bruntlett? taguchi? man, our supply is endless.

  85. danny Says:

Pat- my sources tell me Brett just sneezed.

  86. Keith Says:

fuck we have to waste myers, he had 64 pitches in 6 innings

  87. Mike T. Says:

taguchi already got his clutch hit of the year against the mets. i smell a backwards K tonight.

  88. Jeff Says:

im embarassed to watch this offensive performance…if u can even call it that

  89. 4 the Phils Says:

I have an off the wall question. I was at the game yesterday to see the amazing Joe Blanton!(Thats a joke, although, I was way more than impressed) and the Phils came out in the Royal Blue Jerseys. They obviously didnt stick w them. Why did they do that?
PS: Its obvious the Cards fans love So way more than we ever will!!

  90. Pat Says:

That standing O brought a tear to my eyes. Danny, can you get me the tissue the favre used so I can dry my eyes?

  91. danny Says:

    COME ON SO!

  92. Geoff Says:

im going to ask this again. would anyone trade jimmy rollins for dice-k in the offseason? the red sox need a SS and theyre ballsy enough to make that trade with the pitching they have.

  93. Keith Says:

    myers could have done that

  94. Keith Says:

and we wouldnt have had to waste the bullpen again

  95. Jason Says:

    Hit Ludwick.

  96. danny Says:

If we can hold them here, we can come back and win this. 1-6 in our order gotta produce vs their closer by committee.

  97. Geoff Says:

by the way, is there a list anywhere off hitters available through waivers potentially?

  98. Geoff Says:

their bullpen is horrible, there no excuse for failing to score on it

  99. Pat Says:

Geoff, I don’t see the Sox doing that considering the money they had to pay just to negotiate with the cat.

  100. Fred Says:

    Great clutch hitting.

  101. Greg V. Says:

This game is crap! The Phils must be on their way to a record when it comes to leaving runners in scoring position!

  102. Keith Says:

Geoff, Mlbtraderumors had a thing about players that were not traded and thats about all i saw

    http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/pagetwo.html

you have to scroll down a little

  103. Jeff Says:

if we cant score off ryan franklin we don’t deserve to win the game

  104. danny Says:

    Molina is a grade-A Badass.

  105. Pat Says:

Good god, I felt _my_ balls shrivel on the call by Miller. It was only a single!

  106. danny Says:

Chad Durbin, be my kids godfather.

  107. NEPA Says:

jimmy better start this inning by getting on base

  108. Geoff Says:

haha. chad durbin is awesome. thanks for the link

  109. morandini Says:

howard 266 straight games…. not too shabby

  110. PhillyGirlinMichigan Says:

Durbs!! My fave Tiger has just turned into my fav Philly. Sorry Cole….

  111. NEPA Says:

    jesus christ

  112. Geoff Says:

id definitely do that in the offseason..the sox won a WS with dice-k and im sure they made all that money back they paid to negotiate with him.

  113. danny Says:

You guys ready to see Utley mash this scumbag LOOGY they bring in?

  114. Geoff Says:

well, maybe randy winn is actually a candidate. anyone thats actually good wont make it through to us. mahay wont make it through either. i dont know where their going to find a decent reliever. if feliz isnt healthy id be ok with a beltre waiver-move to patch it up for him.

  115. Greg V. Says:

Jesus Christ guys! Who gives a shit about Skip Carey! Call the fucking game!

  116. Geoff Says:

    yeah this guy is toast.

  117. danny Says:

” Jayson Stark spoke to teams who characterized the Ms demands as “outrageous” in general.”

That made me laugh out loud. God Seattle if a sucky place for sooooo many reasons.

  118. Chutley Says:

I’d like to see our lead off man not go 0-4

  119. danny Says:

Is signing Lo Duca the worst idea ever for the Phils? It is right?

  120. Geoff Says:

that play by play guy here, i dont even know his name, on espn, i cant stand this guy why is he still around? hes horrible.

  121. Geoff Says:

    lo duca is trash

  122. danny Says:

    One more time Pat…

  123. Geoff Says:

what garbage do they have to throw in there now? aaaaawww man, russ springer. HAHAHAHAHA

  124. Greg V. Says:

Wow! I wish we had 8000 pitchers in our pen so we could play this dumbass righty/lefty game all night! I hope Burrell crushes one!

  125. NEPA Says:

I hate LaRussa’s over management bullshit.

  126. danny Says:

La Russa is awesome… crazy and drunk, but awesome.

  127. danny Says:

3 run bomb from Burrell here?

  128. danny Says:

    THE BAT!

  129. NEPA Says:

    THE MACHINE

  130. Jeff Says:

    PAT THE BAT!!!!!!

  131. Keith Says:

way to go fucking pat the bat!!!!!!!!

  132. Greg V. Says:

    YEAH PAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  133. danny Says:

AND THE SHOT OF LA RUSSA LOOKING SHEEPISH IN THE DUGOUT! AMAZING!

  134. Geoff Says:

thank you again, pat, for being a professional

  135. danny Says:

With Victorino up next… Charlie Manual, a genius?

  136. danny Says:

    We will miss you Pat.

  137. Pat Says:

I’m with Danny on that one. La Russa is awesome. Good call to get Pat the single. I see a double for Vic… would be a triple but the chain smoker is on first now.

  138. Geoff Says:

theyd better not try and get away with using romero as the sole setup man tonight.

  139. NEPA Says:

    I can’t stand La Russa.

  140. NEPA Says:

    OH MY GOD!

  141. Chutley Says:

    ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  142. Geoff Says:

    YES! shane!

  143. danny Says:

    YES!

  144. Greg V. Says:

    THE FLYIN HAWAIIAN DOES IT!!!!!!!!!!!

  145. Chutley Says:

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh shoulda started the damn game

  146. Keith Says:

fucking victorino, who thought it would be good to trade him, he has been awesome the last month or two

  147. Richie Allen Says:

Thank you Pat and Shane Victorino….our hitters came through

  148. Geoff Says:

this bullpen is even worse than the mets bullpen.

  149. PhilliesPhaninNY Says:

    Nice

  150. danny Says:

All Victorino’s homers look the same! And they’re all awesome. Wow.

  151. NEPA Says:

God those are 2 very big hits.

  152. Jason Says:

    Way to go Vic!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  153. Pat Says:

That was great. Now we don’t have to defensively replace for Burrell from getting winded running the bases!

  154. Fred Says:

    What a shot!

  155. Richie Allen Says:

Myers didnt look bad today 2 bad pitches..thats it

  156. Geoff Says:

he has that hook swing when he hits for power

  157. Mike T. Says:

brilliant. teams need to take note not to turn to their bullpen against the phils.

  158. danny Says:

Victorino, you’re a man now, Timmy.

  159. NEPA Says:

Yea, I’ll give Myers some credit tonight. Looked good, Ludwick is just a manbeast.

  160. Geoff Says:

absolutely right mike, the phillies cant hit good starters, but they pounce on national league bullpen slop.

  161. Keith Says:

yea myers looked real good and he only had 64 pitches thru 6 ininngs which is a shame cuz he could have saved durbin and romero

  162. danny Says:

Dude, Springer has been lights out this year too. ERA under 2 in 48 games. Just.. Wow.

Gonna throw trash to Victorino 3-0 and 3-1? Try again Russ.

  163. Richie Allen Says:

I dont think its time yet to go too long with Myers….so far so good..

  164. Mike Says:

What are you talking about, Keith? They needed So “awesome” Taguchi out there.

Is So even hitting any better than Myers this season?

  165. Keith Says:

yea i know but i was still looking at the fact that he had only threw 64 pitches, and 48 of those strikes. he did go 7 innings plus last start

  166. Mike T. Says:

by the way, this umpire is a joke.

  167. OZ Says:

just when i was about to smash my guitar on the stoop……Go PHILS!

still a pitching dilema, but Myers pitching well against the Cards is waaaay better than a W over the Nats. give Hamels rest, Happ – 6th pitcher; Moyer is surely gonna need a rest as well.

ESPN broadcasters are awful. But, aren’t most sport commentators in general? think NBA, WIP, etc. etc.???

  168. danny Says:

Um, hey, uh Madson… why don’t you have a seat, bro…

  169. Fred Says:

Oh no. Not 2 run Madsen.

  170. Mike T. Says:

yes! maine on the DL and wagner an MRI – noooiiiice

  171. Chutley Says:

    ahahaha LET’s GO METS AHAHAH

  172. danny Says:

Am I the only one who gets nervous when Romero pitches these days?

    “I guess I’m just a nervous guy.”

  173. Keith Says:

Mike T: not to mention they just got swept by the astros, haha

  174. Fred Says:

Whew! How does Madsen still have a job?

  175. Mike T. Says:

there are a lot of shitty announcers. but scott franske is the tits. i cant wait until he turns to tv.

  176. Geoff Says:

aww what a shame for the mets. maine is SO important to that team.

  177. Mike T. Says:

don’t be nervous, danny – he’s got this.

  178. Geoff Says:

franske is quality. the flyers announcers are pretty good. the nfl is FULL of TERRIBLE retard announcers.

  179. Pat Says:

Are we going to get that play right at least once this season?

  180. Geoff Says:

tony larussa is such a douchebag.

  181. danny Says:

Did Tony slip the ump a $20 spot?

  182. Fred Says:

Is there anymore ambiguous call than a balk?

  183. Chutley Says:

HAHAH joe morgan trying to explain a balk what a joke

  184. danny Says:

Hahaha the guy was safe at second any way. Can’t Howard even make a 60 ft throw?

  185. Jeff Says:

howard might be the worst fielding 1st baseman i’ve ever seen

  186. Geoff Says:

romero has declined greatly this season. hes become a specialist only. they are in desperate need of another quality arm to take that duty away from romero

  187. Chutley Says:

    we shoulda traded for teixeira

  188. Mike T. Says:

“the front foot has to, right there, goes past the left foot. on the rubber, the right needs to stay – it’s the imaginary line, it’s a balk because the left was back, and the right passed it. yep, that was a balk right there.” – joe morgan, describing the balk

  189. Geoff Says:

    ahhahah

  190. Richie Allen Says:

Please get past the 8th….Romero is either lights out or… real shakey

  191. Mike T. Says:

yeah, jc has declined – he’s been over worked though, all of those guys have.

  192. danny Says:

Seriously, Howard is the worst fielding first baseman in baseball- can we get statistical confirmation of this?

Anyone have Mr. James email address??

  193. Geoff Says:

shit. JC romero sucks now. GET OUT!!! i think charlie understands now, thats hes a LOOGY and hes nothing more than that.

  194. Greg V. Says:

Alright the winning run is up to bat and we bring in Madson! GO GO GO!

  195. Pat Says:

    Mike T.

On behalf of the closed captioning crowd, I’d just like to say WTF?

  196. danny Says:

Why would you throw anything reasonable 1-2?????????????????

  197. NEPA Says:

Since the the terrible home run call for Utley’s HR I’ve been watching this game on mute. Just from reading here I can tell I’m missing some real gems from Joe Morgan.

  198. Greg V. Says:

I meant the go ahead run

  199. Greg V. Says:

ESPN has the worst baseball commentary in history! I’d almost rather have the Monday Night Football crew!

“What did you think about that Victornio home run, Jaws?”

It’s gotta be better than this!

  200. NEPA Says:

If we blow this game, it’s really gonna hurt.

  201. John G Says:

Charlie is a fucking retard. He lets JC force the inside pitch and now here we sit with Pujols the potential go ahead. Madson there can work away. Or let them bring Ankiel in, he is not in the HOF as far as I know.

  202. Richie Allen Says:

NEPA turn up the volume….Joe’s explainations are pure comedy

  203. Geoff Says:

madson cant his the broadside of a barn here

  204. Greg V. Says:

    Madson you fucking suck!

  205. danny Says:

    WTF??????

  206. CZ Says:

    yikes………………

  207. Jamie Says:

Madson scares the shit out of me when he pitches. Watch him blow this GD game here…

  208. John G Says:

    awful

  209. Greg V. Says:

All I can think of is the worst case scenerio here!

  210. Geoff Says:

    ankiels been known to GIDP

  211. NEPA Says:

    HUGE.

  212. CZ Says:

    wooooooooooowwww

  213. Richie Allen Says:

Im turning off the tv maybe we’ll have a better chance

  214. danny Says:

    RYAN MADSON! WOW!

  215. Chutley Says:

Maybe Madson knew what he was doing after all

  216. John G Says:

    awful
    great i mean

  217. Keith Says:

pujols still 0-10 against madson, how is that possible

  218. Fred Says:

    Like I said – Madsen’s the greatest!

  219. Greg V. Says:

Damn, I must eat a pack of rolaids every game these days!

  220. Tim Malcolm Says:

That was their plan all along! A-ha!

  221. Richie Allen Says:

Funny we all hate Madsen ….then we love the bugger

  222. CZ Says:

The gut knows best…why else would anyone load the bases for the hottest hitter on the planet?!?!?!?

  223. Jamie Says:

Oh praise the Lord. Madson got out of it. Now we could use an extra run or two for insurance.

  224. Pat Says:

pffft. I loved how Madson walked off looking like Joe Camel saying, “KOOL Baby”

  225. Richie Allen Says:

Hey Gillick…maybe we can get yan Franklin back

  226. Geoff Says:

remember when they tried to make him like their number 3 starter? haha

  227. Fred Says:

Whatever happened to all the excellent Latin players we used to produce?

  228. NEPA Says:

Rollins look totally lost out there. Completely.

  229. Geoff Says:

like i said, get through the year with him, then….dice-k

i know thatll annoy don m so im going to bring it up again and again.

  230. danny Says:

I like how Jon Miller speaks as if J Roll has been an “igniter” at all this year. Can’t he interpret an OPS?

  231. Fred Says:

Another quality at bat from Rollins.

  232. danny Says:

Stuart Scott: The coolest dork around

  233. Richie Allen Says:

Ok Lidge…Finish it off and this will be a VERY GOOD DAY for phils fans

  234. Richie Allen Says:

I didnt realize Rollins was like third worstin the league for leadoff hitters for OBP…wow, not good

  235. Geoff Says:

stu scott somes off as someone whos a product of intense crafting by a corporate marketing board.

  236. Geoff Says:

lidge, dont ever do that again..

  237. Fred Says:

Our bullpen has been shaky of late.

  238. Pat Says:

    Damn. Nuff said.

  239. Geoff Says:

well, troy glaus is a real professional. taht wasnt even a bad pitch.

  240. NEPA Says:

    Glaus hits some true bombs.

  241. danny Says:

Can we get 20, maybe 30 more replays of that homerun?

  242. Chutley Says:

no worries. he gives up runs but is still 27 for 27

  243. Clare Says:

God what the hell is with showing the stupid HR 9 million times; I hate nationals broadcasts.

  244. Fred Says:

    Can you say HGH?

  245. Geoff Says:

rick ankiel is another guy on the mitchell report.

  246. ma phanatic Says:

    Ut-oh

  247. Pat Says:

When the hell did Lidge turn into Mitch Williams? I haven’t had this bad of an anxiety attack since I was 12.

  248. Geoff Says:

in the words of jesse ventura: what the fuuuuuuuuuuck?

  249. scot Says:

i think i just threw up in my mouth.

  250. Jeff Says:

howard is worse in the field than burrell

  251. Geoff Says:

lidge throws too many sliders, thats his one weakness, and ryan howard cant field.

  252. NEPA Says:

I just had to throw the AC on, I immediately started sweating.

  253. Greg V. Says:

Why does it feel like we lost all of a sudden?

  254. danny Says:

He was do for a boner. Hopefully we can get out of the inning though

  255. ma phanatic Says:

figures the one game I get to watch on tv

  256. danny Says:

Sure Howard have gotten that? Does Pujols get that?

  257. NEPA Says:

Yes, Pujols definitely makes that play.

  258. Geoff Says:

lidge is a K pitcher, he can shut em down still

  259. Greg V. Says:

    JESUS CHRIST LIDGE!!!!!!

  260. CZ Says:

Any first baseman is lucky to get that…ouchh……

  261. Geoff Says:

daaaaaaaaamn, 94 right on the arm.

  262. NEPA Says:

Jesus christ. This is gonna be rough.

  263. Chutley Says:

Welp…. Madson loaded the bases and i worked out pretty well

  264. danny Says:

We’ve been lucky this year. It was bound to happen. It happens to Wagner every other f-ing game for C’s sake.

  265. Greg V. Says:

Why am I going to be happy if we leave inning with a tie? FUCK!

  266. NEPA Says:

This guy looks totally lost in those first 2 pitches. Lidge needs to sit him down.

  267. ma phanatic Says:

    In frigginbelievable

  268. Geoff Says:

    nice. sit down kid.

  269. CZ Says:

    one more

  270. Fred Says:

How many shots of LaRussa do we have to see?

  271. NEPA Says:

Joe Morgan says how he didn’t get a single strike and swung at all balls. Ball tracker (or whatever its called) comes up and immediately shows a first pitch strike.

  272. Pat Says:

That was comical how Morgan was talking shit about dude swinging at bad pitches. Then they show the last pitch was a strike. HAHAHAHA

  273. NEPA Says:

One strike away. Lets go Lidge, sits these assholes down.

  274. Chutley Says:

    YESSSS

  275. Brian G. Says:

Can the title of your next blog post be…

    “Fifty Straight after Eight”?

    It should be :p

  276. CZ Says:

    exhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaale…….

  277. Greg V. Says:

I need a shot! Jack Daniels all around!

  278. Geoff Says:

YES!!! see? lidge can buckle down and sit people down. that was intense.

  279. NEPA Says:

    Lidge baby.

  280. danny Says:

IT WAS 0-2 TO MATHER I SAID TO MY GIRLFRIEND:

Impossible for him to hit here, 0% chance Mather does not strike out.

  281. Geoff Says:

the announcers sounded pissed that the phillies won.

  282. Chutley Says:

Big win, now we have a agiasnt the Marlins this week. little breathing room for

  283. Richie Allen Says:

    Coronaaaaaaaaaaary

  284. Joe Says:

WIthout doubt, there would be no joy in redemption. That was awesome.

  285. NEPA Says:

That game did a complete 180. Started off boring and just terrible. Ended extremely tense and exciting. You gotta love the building tension of baseball.

  286. Geoff Says:

lidge: 31 consecutive saves, 28 this year. tahts impressive. also impressive is the 50 straight wins after leading through 8.

  287. Fred Says:

The best thing about this game is we don’t have to listen to Morgan babble anymore!

  288. danny Says:

Seriously, Mather never faced Filthy Lidge before. He’s like 1000-1 underdog to even make contact there.

That’s why Lidge gets the big bucks. Fuck yeah.

  289. Richie Allen Says:

Ok lets get on to the next one …we won I dont know how but we did..

  290. scot Says:

did that just happen. oh my god.

  291. CT Says:

    Victorino for the Ashburn award

  292. Pat Says:

F that. Tony LaRussa for the Ashburn.

  293. christopher Says:

great hard fought series win against a very good team. couldn’t have asked for more than sweeping the nats and taking two of three against the cards, and myers delivering two very nice starts in a row.

  294. Greg V. Says:

Definately a lot of emotion in this one! As much as it sucked to watch it live, I like seeing the closers get in a jam once in a while. It gives them a chance to really show their value. It takes a STUD to get out of that, and Lidge closed the books on this one too! We are very fortunate to have him on this team.

  295. Greg V. Says:

I’m giving Jon Miller and Joe Morgan the Ashburn for making me want to hear Wheels and T-Mac again. No easy task!

  296. Fran Says:

I hate the announcers opn ESPN. Competely against the Phils. How many times are you going to say that Lidge hasnt blown a save. There trying to jinx him.

  297. Greg V. Says:

ESPN has got to be the most anti-Phillies network that exists. Even when they show John Kruk highlights on Baseball Tonight, it’s in a joking manner and is showing him having some embarrassing strike out!

  298. Geoff Says:

espn is anti philadelphia and anti-PA in general

  299. Sean Says:

yeah, the phils are on a nice little streak here, playing great ball. but when the muts get on a streak ESPN and baseball tonight are like, “OH MY GOD! CARLOS DELGADO IS AMAZING!”

    gets me so annoyed.

  300. Tomato Says:

tough game nearly gave me a heart attack

its about time charlie brought in Ruiz late in a game as a defensive replacement for Coste. Coste doesn’t measure up to Ruiz defensively and their offense is close enough to make more sense than switching out burrell for taguchi

  301. Name (required) Says:

Sean eat shit you piece of shit Philly faggot.

  302. Sean Says:

    hahaha. ok, “name required”.

  303. danny Says:

Mets scumbags on here slumming. Hahah, awesome, what a night.

  304. Sean Says:

yeah, danny, it was about time I guess.

great win by the phils, no doubt. now time to gear up for the fish.

  305. Grrrumpy Miner Says:

Well Danny boy,I am on the job tonight so no drinking is involved.Good win for the Phils,I tip my Mets cap to them. But its not time to celebrate yet.Unless you lile celebrating b4 it is over. There’s still 8 weeks of baseball left and Mets/Phillies clashes are still to come. LETS GO METS!
