Gamenight: Phillies (64-56) At Dodgers (61-59)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Thu, August 14, 2008 08:56 PM
Avoiding a four-game sweep in Los Angeles won’t be easy, but Brett Myers has been a stud since returning from the minor leagues. He’ll need to pitch well to give the Phils a big win tonight (especially with the Mets taking care of Washington).
Hiroki’s Year: The Phillies were courting Hiroki Kuroda before he landed with the Dodgers. This season for the Blue, he is 6-8 with an ERA just over 4.00. He would’ve slid into the No. 3 role nicely in Philadelphia. This will be the first time the Phils have faced Kuroda.
Big Man Brett: Brett Myers is 2-0 with a 2.10 ERA since re-joining the Phillies. His last start was a fantastic start against the Pirates, and we all remember what happened when he was pulled.
Pat Pushing It: Pat Burrell has just two hits in his last eight games.
Victorino Out: Shane Victorino isn’t in the lineup again tonight.
Phillies: Brett Myers (5-9) 5.09 ERA
Dodgers: Hiroki Kuroda (6-8) 4.02 ERA
Gametime: 10:10 p.m. EST
Weather: 81, fair
Lineup: Rollins/Werth/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Jenkins/Coste/Bruntlett/Myers

Your gamenight beer: Rick recommends Sawtooth Ale from Left Hand Brewery in Colorado. An Extra Strong Bitter ale, it supposedly contains a nice whiff of caramel. I can dig that. Eat some spicy Indian food with this bitter, but delicious brew.
Go Phillies!

More on Rollins: He clarified on his comments to reporters, and will be on “TBDSSP” tonight to address the country. He’s saying he is more talking about how disconcerting it is when we boo our own guys, and not cheer them on, when they have to do work. He cites Carlos Ruiz as an example.
Again, all fans from all big East Coast cities do this. And why not boo a guy who’s underperforming for his big contract? Sure they’re humans, but they’re humans making ridiculous money for what they do.
August 14th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
just keep on digging the hole jimmy. im still pissed that they didnt pick up kuroda. a rotation of hamels blanton myers kuroda moyer/kendrick isnt bad at all
August 14th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Kuroda would have been nice, but you can’t complain too much about their rotation now. Bats, we need bats.
August 14th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Heck Geoff, if we had every pitcher you’re upset about not getting we’d have to have a 20 man rotation.
August 14th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
haha
August 14th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
How bout them Mets. Get ready to say hello to 2nd place, Philadelphia.
August 14th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
I will say the same thing everyone said about the Phils, “they are playing the nats, they should win” mets will def beat the nats, as the phils did.
August 14th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
Phils get to play the Gnats 9 more times. Thank God for those.
August 14th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
The Mets play the Nationals the same amount of games every other NL East team does.
7-3
August 14th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Excuse me, 9-3.
August 14th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
just wondering here
how many of you guys have watched most of the games the past 3 nights
am i the only one staying up late to watch us lose
August 14th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
yeah, but the Muts are turdburgulars. So there.
August 14th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
No ray, you aren’t alone. Although I have turned them off at certain points.
August 14th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Rollins back on Best Damn 5 minutes ago….
August 14th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
what did he have to say?
August 14th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
I even fell asleep watching one game and awoke to the early am rerun. Stupidly, I finished watching.
August 14th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Rollins should have spent some time focusing on BP instead of getting all Hollywood this week. Do the Best Damn in the off-season, IMO. PLAY BALL!
August 14th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
I’ve watched every out, although I’m on the West Coast.
August 14th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Bduns see Tim’s post above
August 14th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
WHAT A HIT BY DAWKINS!
August 14th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
frontrunner needs to shut up because tuesday against the nats it will be very intresting to see how the phans react.
August 14th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
frontrunner needs to shut up because tuesday against the nats it will be very intresting to see how the phans react
August 14th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Is sarge the wicked witch from the east with that hat?
August 14th, 2008 at 10:01 pm
reyes doesnt talk like this but jroll is wrong all big east coast cities fans are more passionate then the shit hole of oakland and flordia because they have more money to spend at these games and pay more and expect more therefore failure isnt not a option i know from expirence.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
i know, fred, i know. imagine if they got just one or two of those guys..theyd be 10 games up by now.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
Big NY….
It ain’t the money.
NY and Philly give more of a shit than Oakland and New York, because baseball is more important to them, and has been for multiple generations.
Simple as that.
Baseball is king in NY, and Philly has had pro ball for more than a century.
Oakland and Miami are NFL obsessed, and have far more shallow baseball roots.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
they need to sign a japanese starting pitcher this year…new blood into the city and mlb
August 14th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
boooooooooooo frontrunner
August 14th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
rollins u suck
August 14th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
the people on the west coast might actually have more money because the cost of living is higher.
anyways, they care because of the strong tradition of baseball on teh east coast. new york was the original epicenter of baseball, and it still is. robs right there.
we are more passionate people as well. nobody cares about stuff in the midwest and west. those people are so pacified and will do whatever the authorities tell them to do.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
…
August 14th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
just checking in – i won’t be back on here until the phillies and this organization get’s their shit together. i’m so fed up with everything. hope everyone here is doing well. later
August 14th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
I can’t stand watching this team play right now.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
if this team doesnt make the playoffs. they need a complete makeover. new manager and coaching staff. new general manager (cashman or marlins guys or beane disciple), new logo, blow up like half the team and bring in fresh people, new scouts, new minor league/farm director.
thats DEFINITELY what theyll need if they cant get anything done this year.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
It’s been like 7 innings since we’ve gotten a hit. What the hell is going on with this team?
August 14th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
I periodically just come here to get a good laugh…. bc Phillies fans are pathetic…. especially ones like Geoff
August 14th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
You’re pathetic, Dan.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
Yipes if it gets any rougher in here someone is going to lose their retainer.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
1-0 guys… I’m not sure we can make it out of this hole.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Oh, so that’s how you get a runner in from third with less than 2 outs?
August 14th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
3 words for you:
Coste
Bruntlett
Myers
August 14th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Well the only reason those 3 are due up is because 1-6 go down in a row. Blame them.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
woah what? Dobbs is out with a tight hamstring? well there goes what’s left of hope for our offense…
August 14th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Myers looks filthy!
August 14th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Come on front-trotter, you can get on…
August 14th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Boo!
August 14th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
1 for 31 and counting… thanks for reminding me Scully.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
Screw Jimmy Rollins.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
Well said Sarge. You just earned points from me.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
What’d he say? I’ve got the Doyers broadcast.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
He basically made the analogy about Rollins that if a kid comes home with A’s and B’s on his report card the parents are gonna be happy. If they have D’s and F’s they’re gonna be displeased and its the same with fans (they’re gonna boo shitty play). It doesn’t mean we don’t like the player, we just don’t like the way he’s playing. And he told him that if he can’t handle the heat get outta the kitchen.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
Amen! It’s not that we hate you, it’s just our way of saying “HUSTLE mother**cker!”
August 14th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
Sarge is having his best game in a phillies broadcast uniform. Also, if the Dodgers PA guy plays “another one bites the dust” one more time, the ghost of the Junkyard Dog will rise and rip the rest of Manny’s hair out.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
damn, i have a feeling Myers solid start (so far) is going to be squandered. either the pitching is great and the offense sucks, or vice versa. we can never have both can we? geez.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
I guess we wont be hearing the bullshit that Rollins is better then Reyes again from you Phillies fans.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
Yea, I’m enjoying Sarge’s commentary tonight. It’s nice to hear from an old school player who didn’t seem to be too sensitive in his playing days.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Geoff has made a good point about reshuffling the Phillies’ upper echelons. When a person is thirsty, he drinks. If he has no water, he tries to find it. Likewise, if a team is in need, the brass should actively seek relief – but this bunch in the front office keeps contradicting human nature by letting an egregious problem exacerbate itself. Seriously, “Where the hell is the offense?” has been asked so many times in all our heads that we probably mutter it in our sleep now.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
Does anyone have the insecticide. After a three week Heilman hiatus, the fucking cockroaches are back.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
Activate Garcia and let him toss the 8th, Madson the 7th.. and when Blanton pitches the rest of the staff can cover the 5th and 6th.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
Bob: Reyes and Rollins are similar, neither is really better than the other both solid. Reyes is just an idiot for his stupid dugout antics. Rollins has his antics too, and is obviously in the dog house with us Philly fans.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
no no no there not similar….reyes is clearly better
August 14th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Here we go again, the pitching shows up,the offense forget to tonight.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Bob, who gives a shit? Beat it, helmet.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
this year, yes he’s playing better. he should learn to tag the bag though….
August 14th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
Sarge could do a better job as skipper than Manuel. He does not possess the best grammar, but then again, does Manuel? The former Phils outfielder seems to have at least some baseball savvy, and what he apparently has said about J-Roll is almost like a godsend. After all, he was a member of a pennant winner in our fair city, while Manuel had earned the moniker of Red Devil out in Japan.
Anyway, these hitters need to go up there almost as if they want to eat those pitchers alive. I am weary of all this confused reluctance in the batter’s box. Look alive, guys!
August 14th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
Who’s gonna score first, Phils or Iggles?
August 14th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
Jimmy Rollins
BA HR RBI OBP SLG
.270 8 42 .337 .441
Jose Reyes
BA HR RBI OBP SLG
.305 12 51 .364 .487
and I dont even need to mention steals….and the fact that Reyes is 5 years younger
August 14th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
Numbers aside he’s still a Met. How many games did they each play?
August 14th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Hahaha Mickey, I don’t think either scores tonight. It’s a push.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
97 for Jroll, 119 for Reyes. So, that’s .43 RBI’s per game for Jimmy, .43 RBI’s per game for Reyes. .08 HR’s per game for Jimmy, .10 for Reyes. Pretty much the same, per game.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
we are talking about leadoff hitters arent we? so there job is to get on base is it not?
August 14th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
There’s no doubt Reyes is having a better year this year. I mean come on, Rollins legitimately sucks this year. But last year Rollins was MVP and Reyes was absolute shit. At this point in their careers, I would take Reyes because of the age difference and he’s peskier than Rollins.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
and im sorry that bitch Rollins isnt durable
August 14th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
“He is 3 for 17″ as Scully just said.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
i love the Rollins commercial on comcast right now
August 14th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
The one where you can’t even see him, in the hospital?
August 14th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
that took balls to play that commercial
August 14th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
I’m so sick of Rollins’ commercial talking about Phillies fans on Comcast. “When you come out here and you’ve been assepted.” I hate that bullshit.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
haha. I guess the commercial triggered something in all of us just there.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
kind of like Wagner, Bob?
August 14th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
Warm up Madson and hide Charlie.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
wtf is going on here? this is horrible.
also, it looks like the old nomar is back
August 14th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
Time, ss there any way to give the Jeltz award to the entire offense?
August 14th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
If you want to talk about frontrunners, how about these muts cockroaches. When Heilman and Schoenweis were taking turns shitting the bed, these guys were nowhere to be found. Now that the Muts get to bully the nats for a couple days, all the Tyler’s/Bobs/Rivelz and other assorted polesmokers are coming out from underneath the fridge. Everybody needs to flip the lights on and send the Tylers of the world back scurrying for the trash juice. PS. Foreigner just announced they’re going on tour again. You should check it out Rivelz. I know you’re drawn to that type of shit like a moth to a flame
August 14th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
HOME RUN
August 14th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Anyone think we should take a shot a bring in Sheffield? This offense is a fucking joke
August 14th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
solid offensive performance again tonight
August 14th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
how about everybody just shuts up and accept the fact we fucking suck
August 14th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
ERRORS
Reyes – 13
Rollins – 5
FPCT
Reyes – .972
Rollins – .987
August 14th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
I would take any bat with experience right now. It would be the Moyer of our offense.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
If we can’t manage a god damn hit this inning I think I’m going to sleep. This team doesn’t deserve attention right now.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
time to retire harry. everything looks like a homerun to him now.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
Well then i can use the same argument that Mickey used and say that Reyes has played in many more games… so therefore he would have a few more errors… and its pretty sad I know you were looking for stats to show that Rollins is equal to Reyes and all you could find is a fielding % that is .015% of a difference? PATHETIC
August 14th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
THAT GUY, i just want to thank you for making my day man. It’s not to often I legitimately laugh at something I’m reading.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
also, to the dan talking trash up there: whats pathetic is blindly going around like cattle following orders like your masters the phillies tell you to.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
Not for nothing but the Mets handle the Phils this year even better than they handle the Nats.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
can someone drive a runner in? sac fly here, base hit, anybody? anybody?
August 14th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
THANK YOU. sac fly. there oyu go. manufacturing a run there. nice. goood
August 14th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
I’d give anything for a basehit right here from Ryan.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
A few more errors? Looks like at least double the amount of errors. Has Reyes played in twice as many games as Rollins?
August 14th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
Who cares about Reyes. We need a fucking win.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
alright ill take the errors fred….u have fun with rollins leading off with a .270 batting average and a horrid .337 OBP… u idiots wonder why u dont score any runs
August 14th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
Bob, I’m going to teach you a little math.
Check it out, .972 isn’t .927% its 97.2%
Know what the means? The difference is 1.5% between reyes and rollins, not .015%
Furthermore, fielding percentage is a fucking percentage. So if Reyes played more games it really wouldn’t matter the amount of errors because the comparison is with fielding opportunities and the success in said opportunities, not games.
I would say PATHETIC to you sir, but you know, whatever.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
i hate to break it to some of you guys, but honestly. if youre feidling percentage is overeh liek 95-6 % youre fine. after that it really doesnt matter. youre just outthinking yourself. that stat is only important if someone is really really bad. quality defensive players are dime a dozen in MLB now, even at shortstop.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
fielding in the MINIMUM requirement of a professional baseball position player. if you cant do that then you shouldnt be out there
August 14th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Brett Myers, ladies and gents. You have to be happy with the way he has pitched since the rehab assignment. Seriously, about 6 weeks ago we would have expected him out of the game in the 6th down by four. Win or Loss tonight, I’m happy with Myers’ pitching.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
every single move manuel makes now blows up in his face. why not put blake on and face the pinch hitter?
August 14th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
That same ‘horrid’ .337 OBP of Rollins just happens to be Reyes’ career OBP.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
TJ is a jinx
August 14th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
Another great start wasted by our none productive offense. I’m going to bed.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
what the hell? myers shouldve been pulled 2 batters ago with 2 outs
August 14th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
pull myers after this batter – he’s up to 100 pitches. he’s done very well tonite, but manuel is tempting things if he stays longer
August 14th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
wow they got lucky they got out of that.
look at the due up: jenkins, coste, bruntlett
seriousy, what the FUCK is that? not one of those guys is even close to being a good hitter. coste has tanked at the palte this year. hell swing at anything. as a backup hes a .300 hitter. please bring up lou marson soon.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
Bring back Rowand!
August 14th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
The 36 Year Old Minor Leaguer better get on!
August 15th, 2008 at 12:01 am
totally agree with geoff – the coste story has played itself out already. gotta go.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:02 am
Taguchi in for Jenkins? I would’ve rather seen Cervenak or even a bruised up Victorino up there.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:04 am
There’s a reason he spent all those years in the minors.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:05 am
coste is lucky – that last pitch looked borderline strike to me…
August 15th, 2008 at 12:07 am
victorino doesn’t look too comfortable up there.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:07 am
Shane looked like he was still in pain out there
August 15th, 2008 at 12:07 am
CT – you’re getting what you asked for.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:08 am
My bad – Mike Flo.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:08 am
ok i take back what i said about Cervenak… ugh
August 15th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Zero plate discipline.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:09 am
great. just unbelievable. scully says “it’s cervenak’s first look at the majors”. it should be his last. the guy sucks. makes ruiz look like mickey mantle.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:10 am
AC… it was worth a shot. we need better off-the-bench hitters. well, we need a lot of things that have been mentioned to death.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:10 am
the ship be sinking
August 15th, 2008 at 12:11 am
this will never change until there is new ownership…and there will never be new ownership, so it will never change. it kills me b/c i’ve been i fan of these guys for almost 30 years. i work in NYC and have to live with idiot mets fans every damn day.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:16 am
as pat gillick leaves town (soon hopefully), i’ll never forget his immortal words – wasn’t it something like, “we’ll find some [pitching] help on the B list”…
B list, C list, it’s all good (and cheap) for the phils.
F’in a**holes.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:17 am
Bowa’s got to be enjoying this.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:23 am
Here comes the broom.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:24 am
any bets on j-roll’s at bat? i’m putting money on ground out.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:25 am
He’ll reach… okay, I cheated. Let’s get on track guys!!!
August 15th, 2008 at 12:26 am
I am just glad Rollins can’t utter those Randolphian words: Well, uh, we’re in first place so we’re not really worried. Well, you’re not in first place anymore you little piece of ASS.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:31 am
Jeltz award to Rollins please… for obvious reasons
August 15th, 2008 at 12:31 am
little piece of ass?
heheh
August 15th, 2008 at 12:31 am
What a wasted decent start by Myers.
I’ll usually defend this team, but they’re absolutely sucking right now. Offensively, these underachievers could make John Rocker a bona fide starter again.
On a positive note, Tony Hunt showed a little blip of his Penn State brilliance with a 50-yard TD run. It may be preseason, but I still have high hopes that he’ll turn into a Dorsey Levens-type of back.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:32 am
See you guys for more of our medicine tomorrow night! I’m taking the night off tomorrow though.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:33 am
They’re getting really hard to watch, although I may drive out to see them in SD.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:33 am
The offense is terrible. The 6-7-8-9 is Jenkins-Bruntlett-Coste-Pitcher you are NOT a playoff team. What a horrible pile of shit this offense is. You have the lead in two of the four games in the 8th, and you get swept. I can’t see them winning 2 of 3 from San Diego. Third place come Monday. This team is toast. That is all. G’night.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:33 am
That Tony Hunt run was awesome. I think they’ll keep him and have 4 running backs. See ya Ryan Moats.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:34 am
Yeah, the good thing is the pitching is okay. Someone needs to get a hit and get contagious with it. First time we’ve been swept in LA since 1962.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:34 am
Iggles!
August 15th, 2008 at 12:40 am
All I can say (or pray) is Let’s Go Pirates! Cause the phils need help any which way.

Weren’t the Mets in first a few times this season? Enjoy your Motel 8-like stay.
I’m always amazed at the disillusioned optimism of Mets fans. Phillies fans see flaws and reason accordingly. Mets fans win a few against a bottom feeder and coronate themselves representatives of the NL East. I hate to think how you folks handle yourselves when standing in front of any of Atlantic City’s trashy casinos. “Today’s the day!”
August 15th, 2008 at 12:58 am
Nice start by Myer…This team is fucking pathetic 2 fucking hits?I don’t know how this organzation can sit back and just watch this…I wish Mark Cuban would inquire about buying this team,at least he’ll put money into the team.
August 15th, 2008 at 1:00 am
Haven’t the Mets won every series against the Phils? Unless of course you are calling the Phils bottom feeders.
August 15th, 2008 at 1:09 am
Runshouse:
As you should have learned last year, the final standings, and not individual 3/4-game sets or total season series, matter.
As for the Phils being bottom feeders, arguably they are. The last time I checked their W/L versus +/- .500 teams, it appeared as such.
But, I know you’re not stupid enough to misinterpret what I typed. You know I was referring to the Mets’ current series with the Nats. Your attempt to provide a cute zinger was thinly veiled by your pathetic failure.
August 15th, 2008 at 1:11 am
And why in he world is Mike Cervenak still around? That guys a fucking joke a shouldn’t even be in the Majors…Option him back down and call up Greg Golson or something.

Phils Phan
Hey pal, I wasn’t trash talking just pointing out that you have bigger things to worry about than scoreboard watching… Perhaps concentrating on the Dodgers instead of the Mets could have helped.
I read a Phils fan mention the following btw…
“Since the 20-run game in St. Louis in the middle of june, this team is 15-28 against opposition not from Washington D.C. or Atlanta.”
Sleep well.
August 15th, 2008 at 3:35 am
Quote from my blog says it all;
Phillies pitching was good enough to have win 3 of 4 in this series. THE problem is a hibernated, less than lackluster offense.
August 15th, 2008 at 6:28 am
the entire NLE sucks. the standings are gonna flip-flop until the very last week of the season, pretty much the division is gonna be like a coin toss.
however, here’s a nugget. the mets have NEVER lost a NLDS game. so they’re 9-0 in division series. the phillies however are 0-3 in division series. so if either team makes it the mets have the advantage in the postseason.
but then again, every year is independent of the last so anything can really happen.
August 15th, 2008 at 6:52 am
I may live underneath the fridge and be accused of being dirty, but I’m in first place and you’re not. Chew on that.
August 15th, 2008 at 6:56 am
I took the night off from watching the Phillies. I would rather not say what I did because it might offend some, but let’s just say I haven’t been to bed yet, and I’m probably not getting to bed for a while. I’m just occupying my time by reading this blog. I had a great night though. I didn’t think about the Phillies at all. I realized that my spirit animal is a panda bear, and that life is wonderful. Also, clark park is beautiful. Anywho, I checked in on the score and caught an inning. Myers pitched well. I think we do have our formidable 1-2 punch happening again. I would like to see a recap of what Rollins had to say in regards to what he said. Fuck that guy. I am no state of mind to be angry. I honestly don’t know why I’m here. I’m just really really really bored.
August 15th, 2008 at 7:11 am
The above is a cross section of a typical Phillies fan. And we wonder why Met fans are constantly coming here and poking fun of us? Well, wonder no more…
August 15th, 2008 at 7:17 am
Oh what truth hurts…I’m not allowed to do something fun? Sorry I’m not a red neck conservative. Just because I’m a Phillies fan doesn’t mean I can’t do something fun once in a while. It’s not like I’m sitting under a bridge doing heroin. Come on man. Lighten up.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:00 am
Haha, sweet! Sawtooth made the cut! I found it at a nice little place up here in MA that has 75 beers on draft! First time I had it though was in Boulder.
Like they say up here, “That beeh is killah!”.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:07 am
You’re completely within your rights to do something fun, Phil, but last time I checked, tripping on acid qualifies more as doing something stupid and crazy than fun. Playing a video game is fun. Watching a good movie is fun. Having a night on the town with good friends is fun. Watching the Phillies win is fun. Tripping on acid is just stupid. It’s great that you feel the need to share that information on this site when there could be young teens frequenting this blog and being told it’s “fun” and “awesome” to abuse illegal drugs. I’m sure you see no problem with a society where drug abuse is accepted and celebrated, but I’m sure the majority of us wish you would keep your opinions and drug stories to yourself. If you want me to lighten up, I want you to smarten up. Maybe start by thinking of someone other than yourself from time to time.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:11 am
You’re right the truth. I agree with you that there could be young children frequenting this blog. I am sorry for my actions. I am going to email the nation and ask for them to take my posts down.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:12 am
And you’re right, the truth does hurt. haha
August 15th, 2008 at 8:14 am
I am not a drug addict though. I’ve done this a few times in my life, and I smoke pot. Saying something about pot I will argue because they promote beer on this site, but you are totally right about the other thing. I should not share it because of kids that might be reading this. I have a 16 year old sister, and I’d be ashamed of myself if she knew that I did it last night.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:33 am
Well, I’m glad you’ve come to your senses. No matter how bad the Phils are, there’s no need to turn to drugs. Southern Comfort, yes. But not acid.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:38 am
Phillies season ends and the biggest Muts antagonist in NY (Mad Dog) leaves. Not a great week for a Phils fan living in NY.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:39 am
haha I didn’t do it because of the Phillies!!!! I did it because I wanted to. My roomate got some and I decided why not. I have school rolling around in a couple of weeks, it was like a bon voyage to summer. Let’s talk Phillies though while I’m still in this enlightened mood. I just read what Rollins had to say in his cover up. I agree with him on a lot of it. We shouldn’t boo Bruntlett for taking over his spot and giving it his best. The guy is a utility player filling in for the reining MVP. I don’t think we should be booing Ruiz, and I’ve been saying that all year. Ruiz sucks, but he’s the least of this teams concerns. He’s right, we shouldn’t boo a guy before he even gets to the plate. Let him try. You know how hard it has to be to go up there in a key situation and get a hit, and now you’re getting booed before you even get to the plate. That just adds to the pressure. Now he knows if he doesn’t get a hit he’s fucked. I 100% agree with what Jimmy had to say, he shouldn’t have used the words “front runners” and I am very disappointed that he didn’t at least apologize. Now, Jimmy on the other hand should be booed for his lack of hustle. That’s deserving of some boos, but guys like Bruntlett and Ruiz don’t deserve it. I hope other fans read that and understand what Rollins was trying to say because it makes a lot of sense. They are human.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:55 am
Bottom line is these people have gotta get their act together. The whole organization. Theres like 4 hitters who can stay, the whole rest of them, all of them, can go. about half the ptiching is junk, the rest of it is fine. i dont need to see condrey out there in a big situation, come on. no more seanez’s. no more eatons. no more old men in the bullpen.
go get real pitchers in their prime. go get real hitters who can get on base.
NOBODY should ever get swept. bad teams get swept. this is a bad team right now. first place is gone so now its time to own up and play better or get the f out of philadelphia next year. who knows, if they play better, they might get first place back. but not like this. trash.
August 15th, 2008 at 8:56 am
Honestly Geoff, I think the Phillies are just overrated. They aren’t living up to their hypes because their hype isn’t what they really were supposed to reach. I think they are overvalued. Coaches figured them out and told their pitchers to pitch a certain way to them and you’ll strike them out.
August 15th, 2008 at 9:14 am
I think the pitching is fine…its the offense that is a major problem right now. Condrey and Seanez (when healthly) are better than a lot of guys in the Mets bullpen. Seanez’s numbers this year with inherited runners are great. Just because a pitcher is old doesn’t mean he is bad. I would rather have Moyer than Eaton, but Moyer is over 10 years older than Eaton so Moyer must suck right?
August 15th, 2008 at 9:24 am
what kind of tool drops acid and then goes on a baseball blog. What a loser! I absolutely pity you and your second place baseball team and your last place football team.
August 15th, 2008 at 9:26 am
Phil….. almost 24 hours later.. you have seen the light..
Thats what I was trying to get across yesterday, that I don’t LIKE what Rollins said, but you can’t get mad at a guy for being honest, especially when he’s right.
Like he said yesterday, when people BOO Tom Gordon on his way to the mound, regardless of what he did his last game, or BOO Carlos Ruiz cause they’d rather see Chris Coste..
This team is struggling big time.. like Geoff has said before, we can make some average pitchers look absolutely FILTHY (2 hits last night!!!).
Kuroda looked like Cy Young last night.. and we wasted another Quality Start by Myers.. who dare I say.. looks VERY good as a starter..
August 15th, 2008 at 9:30 am
Remember what we said about those Muts fans… as soon as they sniff 1st place again, they get their straight-brimmed NewEra hats (make sure you leave that sticker on!!) and then they start talking smack again.. meanwhile, if the Phillies are so bad, how come the Muts have taken so long to catch us
August 15th, 2008 at 9:32 am
Phil – I think you hit the nail on the head! I think other teams have figured out the Phil’s lineup from top-to-bottom. They have just figured out how to pitch them. That is exactly why you need a shakeup of the lineup or to add a bat before the waiver deadline.
Unfortunately there aren’t any at this point. I just don’t see anyway the Phillies can improve their lineup right now. (And no I wouldn’t want Sheffield and his .240 average on this team.)
I believe I also read somewhere that the Phillies were much more interested in Manny than they let on and they nearly had Grawbow and another starter until Pittsburgh got heavily involved in the Manny three-way trade. I believe I read this at mlbrumors.com. Who knows the validity and I guess who really cares since it didn’t happen?
Geoff – Seanez and Condrey have really not been that bad this year. I mean Seanez was on quite a role before he got hurt. I think the last few innings he pitched where he struggled before going on the DL, he was hurt. You understand this team’s propensity to play injured players. He probably should have hit the DL about 2-3 outings prior to when they finally shut him down knowing this team. He’ll be back and I believe he will help the bullpen down the stretch.
August 15th, 2008 at 9:32 am
Don, all New York fans are gangster wanna be’s? Are you a complete idiot? Or are you just pissed that your Phillies were swept? I’m sure not all Philly fans boo, curse and fight, but if we are gonna stereotype…. get a life, loser. There is more to life than a Phillies blog.
August 15th, 2008 at 9:38 am
I didn’t say anything about gangster wanna be’s did I??
August 15th, 2008 at 9:47 am
DON’T DO DRUGS-or else Omar Minaya will sign you (Mota, Schoenweiss, Tatis…)
August 15th, 2008 at 9:55 am
Does that mean I can play RF for the Mets? hahaha Sorry, probably uncalled for.
August 15th, 2008 at 10:15 am
“Does that mean I can play RF for the Mets? hahaha Sorry, probably uncalled for.”
are you Hispanic?
August 15th, 2008 at 10:16 am
No. I’m Italian though. Does that count for something?
August 15th, 2008 at 10:25 am
Not good enough, sorry. If Piazza was still in his prime, Minaya would’ve traded him for Ramon Hernandez.
August 15th, 2008 at 10:30 am
David Wright for Pedro Feliz? John Maine for Fabio Castro?
August 15th, 2008 at 10:36 am
done and done, but only if you throw in Carlos Ruiz
August 15th, 2008 at 10:46 am
Deal, can we get Brian Schineder back in return?
August 15th, 2008 at 11:02 am
yes, and he’s currently working on a few trades that would bring in all 3 Molinas! It’s going to be fantastic!
August 15th, 2008 at 11:06 am
hahahahaha I doubt Yadi is going anywhere.
August 15th, 2008 at 11:14 am
75% of Mets fans are gay (as in like men) or stuck in the 90s fashion trend of dressing “gangsta.”
August 15th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Classy. Very classy, losers.
August 18th, 2008 at 10:30 am
J-Roll makes a prediction saying the Fightin’s will win the division, and they get bullied in LA. And you can’t get FSN in Philly. J-Roll, would you like to apologize to every Fightin’s fan worldwide after those 4 horrible games agaisnst the Dodgers? Why don’t you talk to Lynn Doyle on CN8’s “It’s Your Call” and talk about your sorry excuse for your prediction? If the Fightin’s get swept by LA, then a chain reaction will happen as every Philly team will do terribly. Thanks a lot, FSN and Best Damn Sports Show, Period for jinxing the Fightin’s!
