**Curse of the 7 **

Mets fans take # 7 train to Shea in 07 to watch their team blow a 7 game lead in the division with 17 to play. Media blames Jose Reyes (#7) because of his attitude and numbers in the month of Sept as one of the main reasonsfor collapse.

In the offseason, the Mets give a 7 yr contract to Johan Santana to help their rotation. He gets to wear # 57. On 8/26 game vs Phils.. Mets up 7-0 with 17 outs left and allow Phils to score 7 to tie then in extra innings, Chris Coste (#27) gets game winning hit to beat Mets. Winning pitcher: Rudy Seanez (#57)..

Time of game: 5:17 passed midnight taking them onto 8/27.

Mets look to even up on 8/27 when Santana (12-7) pitches against Kyle Kendrick (11-7).

*** Last day this season Mets face Phils: Sept 7 ***

yeah the cubs series is going to be rough. they are facing top notch pitching and wrigley field will be tough on the phils' pitchers. winning that series would have me ecstatic, but i'll be completely happy with a split.

a few more thoughts about last night now that i've had the chance to sleep:

how good has scott eyre been so far? this guy looks nasty. he's probably pitching above his head a bit right now due to the change of scenery, but i wouldn't be shocked at all if he takes over the set up role by the end of the season. right now doing it be committee is the right move though.

not only is clay condrey having a nice season, but he comes up with one of the biggest hits of the game. i know condrey and seanez are probably the least popular members of our pen but they both are good supporting players, and they both proved it last night.

rough outing for jamie but i have no doubt he'll bounce back. he's been terrific this year and sometimes games you just don't have it. last night was one of those games. he'll be able to put it behind him and continue to give us good starts the rest of the season.

gotta give it up for the crowd. they stayed there in numbers and stayed into it on the big plays throughout the entire game. they were obviously deflated early but as soon as they got ONE run back they were back in it. david wright said it best after the game- no lead is safe in CBP. once the team starts hitting and the fans get behind them, they can and will come back any given night.

unfortunately i'll miss most of tonight's game, but here's hoping kendrick comes out with a strong outing to give the bullpen some relief, and the offense keeps hitting the balls hard. hell let's see another myers pinch hit!

Also, if we win tonight it will be 9 out of 10 and a 6 game winning streak going into Chicago. I know this is getting over my head, but how awesome would it be to win the next 5?

Well, we have Myers going up against Lilly this weekend. I'm excited to see how he does against the best offense in the NL.
