I've seen several different references on these postings at various times about the Nats rising to the occasion against the NL East. So, I thought it was time to investigate.

This season their record against the NL East is 16-25, against the remainder of the NL is 14-35, and in interleague play is 8-10. So, it seems that interleague has been their most successful winning percentage at 0.444, followed by NL East at 0.390, and they are at their worst against the rest of the NL (0.286). They'd actually have an even better NL East record if they weren't 2-10 against the Marlins. They have a winning record against the Braves (7-4) and are 4-5 and 3-6 against the Mets and us, respectively.

On the other hand, the Phillies are 24-19 in the NL East and 31-19 against the rest of the NL. They're 0.558 in their division vs. 0.620 against the other NL divisions. At least their NL East record isn't as bad as their interleague (0.267) Thank god they're 10-2 against the Braves. If you exclude the Braves, they're 14-17 against the Marlins, Mets and Nats. Ugh!

Let's hope they get up for their meeting with the Marlins next week and all the NL East matchups in September!

Yeah, I'm just curious. It would be nice to see Utley glaring someone down. Normally he wouldn't do anything about it.

Phil, if you have an mlb.tv subscription, you can definitely watch it on there. Normally I could bootleg a clip or something, but I don't have any of that software at work. I could try later this weekend.

It was good to see a usually lifeless Utley stare down Colome after getting hit in the hip - of all places.

As of July 31:

Last year: 106 games: 56-50 0.528 3 games back of Mets

This year: 108 games: 59-49 0.546 1 game up in first over Mets

Considering the horrible June our Phillies had, this is pretty amazing. It looks as though Chase and Jimmy are coming back into their game and our schedule is favorable. The Phillies will win the NL East. Beyond that, I do not think they will go very far unless everyone on the offense gets red hot all at once.

GO PHILLIES!!!!

I don't think it's just the quality of the team that explains why Nationals fans appear to be few and far between, remember that this franchise is only a few years old now. Most DC area people have grown up as Orioles fans, and it doesn't help that their team is abysmal. I think people have still been coming out just to see the new ballpark, but that will fade in time as well. It will be a while before they establish a real fanbase, they'll probably need a few winning seasons to do so.

Way to go Phils! A sweep in St. Louis would also be sweet. Great to see the Flyin' Hawaiian still in Philly after the trade deadline!
