Deja Vu For Moyer
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Sat, September 27, 2008 01:00 PM
Last year, Jamie Moyer got the ball the day the Phillies clinched the NL East title. This year, he’s taking the rubber again with that goal in mind.
Unless the Mets lose to the Marlins today, the Phils will have to win to take the East today. And the game rides on Moyer’s shoulders, just as it did last season. And who else should it be?
“When you have the opportunity to pitch in a game that has meaning, it’s nice to be given the ball,” Moyer said. “But you have to be able to go out there and do your part. I was able to do that last year and it was an exciting time, an exciting game. It was exciting for the fans, for the city and for the organization.”
Already we hold Moyer in high regard for how he performed that day last season. Add in a sparkling season at 45 years old, and the St. Joe’s grad has earned his spot as a Phillie legend. Today would be the icing on the cake.

Use this thread to talk about the Mets/Marlins game.
Johan Santana (15-7) 2.64 ERA vs. Ricky Nolasco (15-7) 3.55 ERA
If the Mets lose, the Phillies are NL East champions.
September 27th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
Anyone know how long of a rain delay we’re looking at for Mets/Marlins?
September 27th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Its not really raining that bad in nyc. I’m in Brooklyn and its really just a drizzle. Not raining at all in Manhattan.
September 27th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
1:45 I think is the projected start
September 27th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
Lets go FISSSSSSSSH!
September 27th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
hey, if anyone is looking to join a fantasy hockey league this season, i’m doing one on yahoo. it’s a very deep keeper league, so we’re looking for dedicated GMs. the draft is scheduled for tomorrow at 3PM. i hotlinked this post to the league url, if you need the password (i don’t think you will) it’s nightman.
so happy that moyer is getting this start. clinch it for us two years straight jamie!
September 27th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Who would you rather face in the NLDS Dodgers or Brewers?
September 27th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
I have not heard or seen this mentioned anywhere, but by all rights, I hold that Jamie Moyer MUST be seriously considered for the Cy Young Award.
September 27th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
keeper league in the hockey sounds very nice christopher
September 27th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Haha, password is Nightman. I wish I knew a single thing about the NHL.
September 27th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Flyers are up 2-0…this could be a great weekend for philly sports altogether
September 27th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
haha yeah, obviously i’m an always sunny fan. i’d like to ideally have at least 12 teams if not more, and we’re only at 6 right now, so the more the merrier!
moyer for cy young is something i’ve been talking about all season, but i’m biased because he’s my favorite player in the majors. still, if he had a really shut down game today, i’d imagine he’d have to get some votes.
September 27th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
I’ve tried the URL and comes up with a message in red.
September 27th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
looks like the Fish are working Johan a little but he’s getting outs.
September 27th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
I love me some Jamie! See you at CBP!
September 27th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
ill take 20+ pitches an inning.. he’ll be dead by the 4th.. Than the Marlins will tee off like the Mets will be
on Monday.
September 27th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
mets score.
September 27th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Did any one get misty-eyed at the Flyers pre-game ceremony? Lots of great memories.
GO PHILS!!!
September 27th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
No more Billy Joel or Bruce Springstein concerts there
The phantoms are moving to Atlantic City i heard.
September 27th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
Is this the 1st regular season hockey game or is it still pre-season?
September 27th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
I heard Ed Snider really put up a fight to save and renovate the Spectrum, he apparently loves that place.
September 27th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Pre-season.. October 11th opener.
September 27th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Phil, they are actually honoring the Spectrum today, had most of the old captains there, it was cool.
September 27th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Shame that’s the only way to get Primeau back…
September 27th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Yeah, I watched most of it. I turned it on a few minutes in. I didn’t know what was going on. I can’t believe they’re knocking down the spectrum. I have a lot of memories in that place as a little kid. Between the NHL, WWF, and concerts I’m going to really miss that place. I saw David Lee Roth there when I was 4.
September 27th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
God, I LOVE Keith Primeau, I waited 2 hours in the rain to have him sign a jersey, which I was wearing, btw, so he had to touch me, sweeet.
September 27th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
You never forget your first… (captain of the team when you become a fan)
September 27th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
I was kind of disappointed to not see Brindamour there.
September 27th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
NJ, he wasn’t my first, by far, but absolutely my best (captain of the team, that is)
September 27th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
i think you need to be logged into yahoo in order to access the page. if it’s still giving the error message after you’ve logged in let me know.
September 27th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
it’s logged in and message is still coming up…
September 27th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Phil, isn’t Brindamour still with the Canes, is he injured?
September 27th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
I’m not sure. I stopped following hockey when the strike happened. Same happened for me with the 94 strike in baseball. Shit like that pisses me off.
September 27th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
He is still with the Canes and injured but I’ll echo what Phil said, the games changed to much and seems so disposable and too fan friendly now.
September 27th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
Lets go get it moyer 2days the day
September 27th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
mets scored again. phillies lose mets still in for division.
September 27th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Mets still need to get 15 outs.
September 27th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
Big spot here – bases loaded, 2 out for Baker.
September 27th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
That is the kind of shit that shows how Santana is an ace and Hamels isn’t. In a game this huge Santana got the big out with bases loaded. Hamels always chokes in those situations. Hamels will get to that point, he’s just too young at this point. In 2 more years he’ll be the most dominating pitcher in the NL behind Lincecum.
September 27th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Mark r.e. Moyer for CY Young.
I’ve been saying for weeks on this very board that Moyer is a shoe in for the CY Young.
September 27th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Just thinking same thing. Santana for mets big game. CC or sheets. Harden or Zambrano. we can’t touch that.
September 27th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Santana is an animal. And Craig, Moyer doesn’t stand a chance, so you’ve been wrong for weeks I guess.
September 27th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
Craig stop posting stupid remarks,go back to your drinking. It’s amazing how stupid people are like craig, they think they know sports. How can he make that stupid remark.
September 27th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Mike M – How many times can you include the word ’stupid’ in three sentences? You trying for some sort of unofficial world record?
September 27th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
NEPA they should have a age limit of twenty one to post so little kids like craig would go out and play. Instead of posting stupid remarks. He should be with little kids his own age.
September 27th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Moyer has no chance at Cy Young contention, forget the K’s arguement against which are a fan friendly writers wet dream his ERA’s and hits surrendered are too high and his innings pitched are too low.
Really hate the Hamels/Santana comparison. Santana is debatably the best pitcher in the game and would be the Cy Young winner had the bullpen not blown so many gmes and Hamels is a young ace in the second tier of top pitchers and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. Guys who aren’t aces don’t eclipse 200 innings with an incredible WHIP, ERA and good K numbers but everyone thinks their best pitcher is the best in the league and rips them when their not ‘clutch’.
Have to respect what Santana’s doing tonight.
September 27th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
NEPA – I’ve got to be wrong about somthing, now and again.
September 27th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
When it comes to you . The word stupid just fits so well.
September 27th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Mike – What’s the problem here? Some light hearted comments were made r.e. Moyer and the CY Young.
You seem to have taken said comments very personally. Stop being such a d-bag.
September 27th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Jeez Mike the way you’re acting towards me here you’d think i’m poking your sister. Give it a rest.
September 27th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
She doesn’t like stupid men. so you might have to poke your life partner.
September 27th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
Rapier like wit on display there Mike.
Keep it up. That-a-boy.
September 27th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
if anyone wants to join my fantasy hockey league just send me an e-mail at chris_engineer@excite.com and i’ll send you an invitation. not sure why yahoo is giving me a hard time.
