MLB Gameday
Your gameday beer: Beck’s Oktoberfest is a pretty god Oktoberfest-style beer. As we wind down here in 2008, I’ll be feeding you all a bunch of Oktoberfests, because they’re so appropriate now. Here’s hoping Happ can go six, get a lead and shut ‘em down. Let’s get a big one tonight. Oh, eat a grilled steak with this.
Go Phillies!

Looking forward to seeing how Happ does. He looked quite good last time around, but now the Braves will come in knowing what to expect from him. Hope I get home in time for the first!
September 22nd, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Stuck at work…with a Slingbox and nothing to do till 8.
I am giddy for the rest of this week.
GO PHILS.
September 22nd, 2008 at 6:21 pm
Good vibes, ya’ll, good vibes. Happ has done well when starting…..let’s keep it going.
September 22nd, 2008 at 6:30 pm
They’ve changed Saturday’s start to 3:55 on Fox.
September 22nd, 2008 at 6:34 pm
ah, interesting. I was planning all along on it being a Fox game, but the schedule said 8. Good thing I’m going to the game, it would be blacked out in NY.
September 22nd, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Anyone know of any way to watch the game online?
September 22nd, 2008 at 6:47 pm
Matt, you can follow via mlb.com and pay for a one-game watch.
September 22nd, 2008 at 6:51 pm
So my roommate got fired, my dog needs surgery, and I just flunked my bio exam. But i just got free tickets from my sick friend to tonight’s game. It has been a good day.
September 22nd, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Game time….here we go
September 22nd, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Apparently, we have a large following from Porto Alegre, Brasil.
Phillies Nation has no bounds.
September 22nd, 2008 at 7:00 pm
Nice to see the scales balanced out for you, R.Mac.
September 22nd, 2008 at 7:05 pm
perfect start for JA. just 5/6 more innings like that one.
September 22nd, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Gameday isn’t working for me for the Mets game. Anybody else having problems with it?
September 22nd, 2008 at 7:10 pm
let’s go Phils
September 22nd, 2008 at 7:10 pm
Yea, Gameday isn’t working. I’m on ESPN Gamecast or whatever its called. I watch that and MLB.tv at the same time.
September 22nd, 2008 at 7:11 pm
I don’t have MLB.tv, so I guess I’ll watch it on ESPN Gamecast then.
September 22nd, 2008 at 7:28 pm
Kalas: “Here’s Ruiz batting at .280, but he’s been much better as of late batting .280…”
September 22nd, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Harry kalas is a saint
September 22nd, 2008 at 7:39 pm
Is there not a good 30 second delay between ESPN gameday and MLB.tv?
I find that the scores on gameday updates well before the action unfolds on mlb.tv
September 22nd, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Phantatic came up small on that catch
September 22nd, 2008 at 7:47 pm
MLB.com Gameday is up and running again. Craig, I’m not sure about ESPN because I don’t use it much but there’s usually about a 10 second delay between MLB Gameday and MLB.tv.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:08 pm
J.A. Happ = AMAZING
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:08 pm
Wow, Grand slam Jason Marquis. 6-2 Cubs.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:10 pm
and the Phillies fans go nuts…
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Crazy thought…is it me,or does every team play the Mets like its always the 7th game of the world series, than drop dead like dogs vs other teams?
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Marquis
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:13 pm
Derrek Lee, 7-2.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Cubs have had 7 hits in the top of the 4th including a solo shot by Lee. 7-2 Cubs. I’m love watching the Mets right now.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:15 pm
7-2 Cubs.
We need to win the NL East to avoid playing them in the division series!
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:17 pm
ja happ really looks like a major league starting pitcher. his 4 starts this year he’s stepped up and shown that he has the right make up to stick around in the starting rotation next season. glad to see the organization actually take their time with him after his terrible start last season, recognize how well he pitched in the minors this year, give him another chance to start games in the majors, and not screw around with him in the bullpen too much.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:18 pm
Sweet, just sweet. Let’s go Cubbies*!!!!
*only for the next 7 games
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:18 pm
oof, just as i say that… that’s rough, but the phillies have to figure they’ll need more than 2 runs to win this game.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:18 pm
shit, damn kelly johnson
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:19 pm
you jinxed him christopher!
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Mets slogan is “Show up at Shea”….problem is,the fans showed, but wheres the team? Cmon Amazins…..BALLS TO THE WALL BOYS!
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Hopefully these 2 runs from the Braves will give our offense a little kick in the butt
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:27 pm
Wait…the Cub’s pitcher hit a grand slam????? wow…
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:31 pm
damn, wrong part of the park.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:38 pm
ugh, i’m not so sure about bringing seanez in for happ right now…
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:38 pm
taking out Happ for Seanez?
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:39 pm
I am seriously baffled by this move. Yunel Escobar is a switch hitter, isn’t he?
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Nice start again for Happ.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Last time they put Seanez in a situation like this he surrendered a home run
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:40 pm
very true, Manny, he gave up a bomb to Delgado
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Oh boy, Seanez vs. Norton. Definitely a mismatch here.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:41 pm
I’d hate to see Happ lose this game… Please Seanez don’t blow it
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:42 pm
No he gave up a bomb to Amezaga in the last series.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:42 pm
that’s the 2nd day in a row that Norton pinch hit and got the intentional walk.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:43 pm
wooo, ok there we go. we need some runs pronto!
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Now Seanez, not Happ, could win the game… unfair system.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:43 pm
nice job, Seanez, nice play Feliz.
Let’s get some runs.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:44 pm
you can’t keep rudy down!
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:46 pm
ah, sorry NEPA, I didn’t see the late innings of Friday’s game. Good to see Condrey and Seanez get big outs though.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Oh man, I fell asleep, they tied it up?
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Yea, I wish I didn’t see them either.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:51 pm
well, Jair has thrown 92 pitches, so he’s going to pitch at least one more inning.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Fell asleep? During Phillies baseball in September? You must be narcoleptic cause this shit be exciting.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:53 pm
WTF
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:54 pm
damn, he had an 0-2 count.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Why Seanez???
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:55 pm
i missed it… what happened?
and why the heck is seanez still in? geez…
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Johnson roped one, Werth dove for it, would’ve been a great play, it glanced off his mitt, Victorino booted it at the wall, threw in to Utley, who dropped the throw and Johnson wound up on 3rd. They gave Victorino an error.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Looks like Charlie is willing to lose this game to have his Madson, Romero, Durbin for tomorrow….
I don’t get it.
Condrey and Eyre are warming up
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Seanez please shut me up and get us out of this one.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:58 pm
OUT AT HOME!
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:58 pm
great play!
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:58 pm
How huge was that out at home.
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:58 pm
YEA, nice play
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:59 pm
yes, nice!!!
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Beautiful play J-Roll…!!!
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Mets losing now 8-2
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:01 pm
The defense really showed up tonight for the Chief!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Anyone know what the deal is for standing room tickets during playoff games?
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Ok…cmon Phillies lets get some runs in!!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:05 pm
We don’t need to be going extra innings tonite, save our pitchers and get this over with.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Nice hit by Dobbs to start the inning!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:07 pm
yeah Dobbs, best pinch hitter in baseball.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:07 pm
NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:07 pm
It’s good to see Dobbs out there getting a hit. Was a little worried after his sprain yesterday.
And way to end up at 3rd Golson!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:07 pm
is Lidge available tonight?
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Cmon J-Roll get that run in!!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:08 pm
wow, golson can really fly.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Goldson is FAST
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:09 pm
noooooo
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:09 pm
woops, I meant Golson
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:09 pm
Werth gotta get some good lift and get the run in.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Werth will homer.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Does anyone else notice the MILF near the Phillies dugout? Not too bad.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:10 pm
They better get this run in, this is what they’ve been criticized of all year.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:12 pm
SAFE!!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:12 pm
YES!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:12 pm
I’ll donate some money to the church of Manny if Werth homers right here.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:12 pm
wow great running by Golson! that must feel great.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Wow, if that’s Ruiz catching, he’s out by a mile.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Golson beat the tag. Great job getting his foot in
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:13 pm
great move using golson to pinch run there, and outstanding base running by the kid!!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Perfect call! Manuel looks brilliant.
The catcher should learned a lesson from Ruiz and blocked the plate better.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:14 pm
add Golson to our List of Unlikely Heroes
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Golson
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Madson as a closer?
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Bobby Cox looks as old as Joe Paterno, do these guys just go til they drop?
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:20 pm
omg they’re gonna walk Pat the Bat! haha
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:20 pm
It’d be real nice to get an insurance run here for Madson. I don’t like the idea of one swing tying this thing up. Especially with McCann due up.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:20 pm
HOME RUN PAT!!!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:21 pm
THE MAN
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:21 pm
PATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Yea Pat!!!!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Man Burrell knew it when he smacked that one!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:21 pm
NEPA, consider it done!!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:21 pm
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:21 pm
MAN OR MACHINE!?!?!?!?
great job pat!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Pat!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:22 pm
HOLY SHIT
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Damnnn mlb.tv delay….. Go Pat!!!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:22 pm
You are a hero Pat Burrell
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:22 pm
P the B
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Evan, you see, I confused Werth with Pat
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:23 pm
ok so they just showed the bench. I recognized So taguchi and tad iguchi but who was the the asian I didn’t recognize
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:23 pm
FLY, HAWAIIAN, FLY!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Haha Manny, I can see how that happens considering how similar the two are. Where do I send my nickle?
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:24 pm
How the hell did Golson beat that throw before?
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:24 pm
the third Asian is the translator, and no, I am not making that up.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Cheap ass
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:25 pm
haha wow thanks griffin. I was embarassed i couldn’t recognize him. i believe that
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:26 pm
what a game!!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Do any of the ladies out there think Pat is a pilf?
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Let’s go, Developmentally Challenged Bears. Get out of that fuggin’ inning.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:26 pm
no prob, I think the translator is better than Taguchi.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Mets are threatening.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Marquis was struggling last inning but got a big DP, I guess this inning they caught up to him.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Mets popped out to end the inning, still down 4 runs
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:30 pm
I’m interested to see if PIniella uses Marmol and Wood a lot down the stretch.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Well, I see Madson follows the Brad Lidge School of Closing. Give the fans an aneurysm before you finish it. Hopefully.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:30 pm
So Taguchi had to give up his translator when he was sent down to the minors for a brief interval. He says that’s when he finally learned to speak English.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:32 pm
I’ve heard Taguchi give interviews in English before and I remember him on the podium after he homered off of Wagner in the 2006 NLCS.
Tad Iguchi on the other hand..
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:32 pm
Go Madson
Um.. Georgie Whats a pilf? Maybe I shouldn’t ask…
Cole > Dobbs > Durbin > Lidge………way down the line is Pat…. IMHO if that’s what your talkin about.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:32 pm
We may have a replay coming up….
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:32 pm
break out that instant replay!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:32 pm
It’s replay time
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:34 pm
I think that’s a homer.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:34 pm
oh, maybe not…
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:34 pm
why didn’t they use replay there?
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:35 pm
On a closer slow-motion replay, it hit the top of the padding and not the pole. Madson, get out of this and say a thank you prayer to Jobu.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Anybody kind of disappointed we didn’t get to see a replay?
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:36 pm
yeah, I’m not sure why they didn’t replay it. I’ll take it though, and TV replays show it was the right call.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:37 pm
Still plenty of ball to play in New York, Harry. Don’t speak too soon.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:37 pm
That was an excellent call by that 3rd base ump. I thought it hit the yellow of the foul pole myself.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:37 pm
solid win, 5 more to go.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:37 pm
Magic number time?
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:37 pm
WHAT A GAME!!!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Great win tonight
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:38 pm
No magic numbers. They never really worked out for the Mets. I say avoid them till it’s zero.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:38 pm
No magic number.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Brian: No.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:39 pm
ONE DOWN, BABY!
Phillygirl-nah, you probably shouldn’t ask. lol
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:39 pm
ok just putting it out there
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:40 pm
haha gotta love Dobbs. “I’m definitely not safe there.” Talking about Golson safe at home.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Who should get the Ashburn?
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:41 pm
No magic number, things are going fine without it!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:42 pm
The magic # is unnecessary, let the Phils take care of the winning.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Pat the Bat for Ashburn!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Nice win for the Phils tonight and btw we don’t mention magic numbers around here.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Burrell for the Ashburn
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:44 pm
I’m just a nice Midwestern lady now….. whether I like it or not!
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Glad to see a team play with guts, and the Phils are showing it.It was a good win for you guys. The Amazins are showing No Guts.I actually hope the Mets DO make the playoffs, however if the Mets are this bad, they shouldn’t even bother showing up.I’m getting that same nauseating feeling I had last September.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:44 pm
I gotta give the Ashburn to Burrell.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:45 pm
Tough one, Bri. Vic was great early. Dobbs, Gols were huge there. Seanez and Eyre both pitched huge in the late half. Then there’s Pat.
Maybe Jimmy? Big first hit and run, then the play at the plate to swing back the mo?
Uh, Jimmy, if you hold one to my head.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Great defensive game….I was watching the Braves feed and they think the Phils have what it takes to go all the way
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:47 pm
As much as I like Seanez, he got a lot of help from his infield… I vote for JImmy….
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Great game Phils……go Cubs…LOTS of guts to go with Happ again tonight.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Nice win!
Question: All Cubs pitchers are right-handed? (that would be good for us in a potential playoff scenario)
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:49 pm
I’m not surprised that the Braves people think we can go all the way. All we’ve done is dominate them the whole season.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Ashburn to Burrell, definitely. Insurance 3-run homer when we had Lidge unavailable.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Great win. Have to keep this momentum going.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:51 pm
Things seem to be falling into place, the stars are aligning, it’s time ….
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:54 pm
The Cubs four man rotation will be Zambrano, Dempster, Harden and Lilly. Lilly is left-handed, but the other three are righties.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Thanks Griffin
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Rollins for the Ashburn for the great play at the plate? I dunno, this was a team game. I always like Dobbs for the Ashburn when he delivers like he did tonight. Yeah it was just a single but it made things happen.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Question ..do you guys think this team is as good as the Kruk -Daulton division champs in the 90’s?..How about the 1980 champions?…were any of you around then?
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:04 pm
I’m gonna make a bold prediction and say the mets lose tonight.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:04 pm
I was around in 80! I was 14 months old, but I was there. My first game was a July game against the rotten Mets.
Anyways, to answer your question, I don’t think this team is as good as those teams, but if they can stay hot, there’s no reason they can’t make a serious run. Anything can happen in a short series.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:05 pm
I give Ashburn to the team. Despite the incalculable value of being up by 3 as opposed to 1, we did have the lead at the point of Burrell’s HR. Happ, Golson, Dobbs, Rollins, Utley, and Ruiz all stand out alongside Burrell in my book.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Keith Hernandez is chewing on and on about how the Phillies could choke down the stretch, about how the Mets could come back and take the East and it would be a “shining moment” for the franchise, etc.
As he says that Luis Ayala gives up another hit. It’s 9-4 Cubs.
Seriously, the Mets’ crew should be concerned with the Mets. Not anyone else. Kinda sad, really.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Mets update: They put in their “closer” Ayala down 8-4. He gave up a run and was taken out with the bases loaded. A confidence builder for the beleaguered pen.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:07 pm
It’s kind of ironic that 2 weeks ago, all the Mets fans, crew, broadcasters, and players were saying that the Phillies can’t depend on a Mets collapse to win, yet from what you’re saying Tim, it seems that they are hoping and wishing for it in order to succeed.

In 93, that lucky feeling that we’ve been enjoying since the Brewers series was going on just about all season long. I think that team might have had slightly better pitching in the middle of the season, but I’m just going by gut and not any objective measure.
And while I love listening to Mitch Williams on WPHT before the games, I really did not enjoy watching him close out the games in 1993. Brad Lidge is so much easier on the nerves, even as he made us sweat the last few games.

Division champs? More like division champ.
And yes, they are 100000000 times better. That team was super lucky to be in any position they were in.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:08 pm
agreed, Lidge is the man and Mitch was an adventure every time out.

I don’t remember much from 1993 because I was 6 years old but I’m always reminded by my parents that as soon as Carter hit the bomb I ran over to the garbage and threw my maroon Phillies hat in, balling my eyes out. Which is probably pretty close to what I’d do if that happened this year.

Well, Hernandez’s tone is one of blind hope. He did start the talk by saying the Mets have their destiny in their hands (as in a playoff spot), but quickly moved it to “there’s still time … the Phils could lose it … what a moment that would be …”
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:10 pm
I was 9 years old for the 93 team, so my memories were generally all the good ones outside of Joe Carter ruining my childhood.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:12 pm
This W would give Cubbies home-field advantage right? I wonder how they play the next 6 against teams still in the running.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Keep yapping, keith, maybe you can convince yourself eventually.
Yeah, I was in my 20’s in 1980, that was a fantastic team with Pete Rose as the catalyst. The playoffs and ws were excruciatingly stressful and wonderful at the same time.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:14 pm
The ‘80 team. Well, I wasn’t alive, but from what I’ve seen, heard, researched, they were extremely talented but extremely lax. They turned it on late. A lot like this team. I wouldn’t hesitate to say this team is very much the same as the ‘80 team.
The ‘93 team was lucky. And good. But lucky. They had one significant injury (Hollins for a month), and a slew of career years (Inky, Kruk, Dykstra, Eisenrich, practically the whole staff, etc.). Now, for what they were they were a very good team, but a couple more injuries and they would’ve been a flame-out team, very likely.
Compare this team to 1977 (101-61 in a soft, non-parity NL) and now we’re talking.

I haven’t seen a championship in my lifetime. I was born in December 83, which means the last city championship was several months beforehand with the Sixers.
So it would be nice to see it once in my lifetime.
As far as the Cubbies, I don’t see Pinella really resting them too much. Baseball is too much of a momentum sport and nothing is more of a buzzkill then laying off while on a hot streak for a team. Look at what happened to the red hot Rockies last year when they swept the NLCS and then sat around for a week until the World Series.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Odd. I was calm, and walked over and simply shut the TV off and never saw Carter round the bases.
If you had been following Williams’ performance in that series, you’d have known like I did that it was over when they pulled Roger Mason to let the Wild Thing’s dead arm work its magic. I still blame Fregosi.

It feels good to be on top…..and feels even better when the mets are losing…
what a year…
Tim..I guess its easier for Hernandez to dream ..they cant believe they could do the same thing two years in a row..You gotta love the way its goin down..
cant wait till tomorrow..Hamels

I too was 9 years of age when the Phils lost the world series on that Joe Carter blast. It ruined my love of the Phillies for many subsequent years. F Joe Carter!
Anyone else notice that David Wright flails his arms when he runs?
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Wright is a strange dude, imho.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Evan, tie Joe Carter’s homerun with the players strike the following year, I lost interest in baseball. I went to a game several times a year just to go, but loosely paid attention. It took the last season at the Vet for me to get back into Phils die hard.

2 1/2 games out,1 up vs the Brew Crew. How bout those Amazin Mets boys and girls……..This team has not put up a fight in September for the last 2 Years. As a Mets fan this is disheartening and yet is just as bitter as last season.Minaya MUST be canned after this season is over, and find a GM who is worth a damn. The worst that I feel for and deserves to stay is Jerry Manuel because to me that he has shown a lot of heart with what we had.The bullpen from top to bottom and soup to nuts MUST BE CLEARED OUT.I’m disgusted.I am wondering,Is Brian Cashman available? lol
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:27 pm
What the hell? He takes three strikes to end it? I get the feeling that was more of a statement at-bat than anything.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:34 pm
That was a team performance to me.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:35 pm
I just put on the 80’s channel on the XM……how prophetic to hear Nu Shooz doing “Point of no return” after a lackluster Mets game because it is the point of no return.I might as well tip my Mets cap to you guys and congratulate the Phillies on the inevitable clincher for the NL East. The Phillies deserve to win as the Mets deserved to lose it.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:39 pm
I don’t think Minaya is as bad as the Mets are making him seem.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Check out how Burrell gets all pumped after Golson scores. After that, he homers! (Go to the phillies website, watch the “Golson scores go-ahead run” video)
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:44 pm
the Mets ownership loves Minaya, so he’s not getting fired. There are rumors that they will bring Jerry Manuel back even if they don’t make the playoffs. To me, you have to start over in the new ballpark if you choke two years in a row.
Enough about the second place team. Hamels tomorrow!
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Evan, you do realize he traded Cliff Lee, Grady Siezmore and Brandon Phillips for Bartolo Colon, and then he traded a young healthy effective Carl Pavano for Cliff Floyd, signed Luis Castillo to a 4-year deal, traded for Ambioriz Burgos, failed to add any depth to the bench or bullpen during the offseason, the Mets are a product of Omar Minaya.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Regardless if the Wilpon’s love Minaya and maybe suck his toes……..sometimes love has to go out the window in business (Baseball sad to say is a business).Minaya was the architect of this present team including the poison pen and coaching staff. The farm is barren and nothing looking promising in that department which rests on Minaya. Now tell me as a fan what have the Mets done since September 2007? OK I’ll give him Johan, thats one thing.Bottom line in the last 13 months he has become a failure. No WONDER other teams and fans don’t respect the Mets.
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:59 pm
haha, why did MetsBlow just post in a game from like a month ago?
September 22nd, 2008 at 11:12 pm
lol…Bix Burgos? He is in trouble niw for hitting his girlfriend and last year was on Eyewitness news “On Your Side” for not paying his rent while with a lease and in the Minors.I don’t know if he was on the same page as Bill “NY’s gonna love this guy” Pecota but Bix is the least of Minaya’s problems.Bottom line other than Santana,he hasn’t stepped up to the plate and there are no answers for this team in the short term.He sat on his butt with the trading deadline and the last 2 seasons are a byproduct. Was Willie the qrong person to go downHill No he wasn’t and he’s also part of the mess Minaya made.

Erye gets one out in the game and gets the win????? WTF! The rules need some serious common sense applied to them. Happ did a great job last night! KUDOS to you JA Happ!
