Tonight’s Game Postponed

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Fri, September 12, 2008 06:32 PM

Tonight’s game against the Brewers has been postponed because of rain.

The teams will make up the game Sunday, as part of a day-night doubleheader. The early game is 1:35, as scheduled, and the late game is 7:35.

Game is postponed….no makeup date set yet

  2. Derek Says:

I’m not a fan of this situation

  3. Evan Says:

    :(

  4. J-Man Says:

They’ll prolly play a double header either tomorrow or Sunday.

  5. NEPA Says:

Metsblog has the Mets’ magic number listed on their main page. Haha, I hope that comes back to bite them in the ass.

  6. Kyle Says:

I am. Hamels could use the extra day.

  7. jeff Says:

    damn no baseball. boo

  8. Don M Says:

Does this mean that if they play 2 on Sunday, they’ll throw Sabathia in one of them???

He’ll be getting pushed up a day, but against a team that is trying to catch you, it could be the difference between 2-up, or tied for the WildCard..

Why do they take so long to reschedule this stuff anyway

  9. Kyle Says:

    Doubleheader Sunday per ESPN.

  10. SJ Mike Says:

Phils and Brew Crew have a mutual off day on Monday, so I’d imagine they would just play it Monday afternoon.

  11. SJ Mike Says:

Nevermind, just posted as day night doubleheader.

  12. Manny Says:

That’s better, right? Sabathia wouldn’t play on Sunday…?

  13. Phil Says:

How is the rotation going to work out after this?

  14. Phil Says:

They’re probably saving Sabathia for the Cubs honestly.

  15. NEPA Says:

Just found a great video. Reminds me of me about 30 times this season.

    Enjoy.

  16. SJ Mike Says:

I sincerely think that the Brewers would rather start Sabathia against the Cubs. The Cubs have been on a bit of a slide lately and the division is still in the grasp for the Brewers mathematically.

I’d imagine Hamels tomorrow, and Blanton and Myers on Sunday. I think Myers was confirmed to be set to pitch on Sunday before the rainout anyway.

  17. Tim Malcolm Says:

For those of you at home tonight (some are), Bravo is showing “Rocky” and “Rocky II.” Get at it.

  18. christopher Says:

of course sabathia doesn’t pitch sunday, why would he? he won’t be on any extra rest than he would have otherwise… rain doesn’t magically revive CC or cause him to time travel. at least not that i know of.

  19. Ryk Says:

I hear the Phils will be the host, if necessary, of any 1-game playoff. Mets, Milwaukee, StLouis, and Houston would all come to Philly. gotta love the coin-flip. Good omen??

  20. Smith Says:

The coin flip is the only thing we’ll have ended up winning by season’s end.

  21. Phil Says:

Wow Smith. You are a douchebag.

  22. Wilson Says:

The second game Sunday night won’t be televised apparently because espn has rights to any game after 6pm eastern times. That sucks. Might just have to go

  23. Georgie Says:

    Maybe ESPN will show it.

  24. NEPA Says:

I actually found Smith’s comment pretty amusing. I don’t have much confidence in this team, but god I hope they can pull it out.

  25. SJ Mike Says:

Nah, CW has the game on Sunday night. There’s no issue.

  26. they know we're better than them Says:

Look at the bright side… at least you won’t lose any ground tonight.

  27. Richie Allen Says:

    Typical TROLL comment

  28. they know we're better than them Says:

Must be painful to know that trolls speak the truth.

  29. Fran Says:

im spending the whole day down there sunday

  30. Rob Says:

Does Mike Scmidt have a good feeling about this weekend?

  31. Rob Says:

    Or Mike Schmidt?

  32. riley Says:

i was there tonight hoping to see the game it was pouring earlier like around 4 5 o’clock but around 6 30 it started to clear up then it stopped all together the game shouldn’t have been canceled

  33. Bruce Says:

A day/night doubleheader on Sunday could have been avoided but Milwaukee choose to keep their day off for Monday. See team report:

Both teams are off Monday, so a doubleheader could’ve been avoided. However, the Brewers voted against playing on their off day.

“It was a hard decision. It was debated, debated and debated,” Milwaukee manager Ned Yost said. “We need a break.”

    Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins agreed.

“We’d rather keep our off day,” he said.

Manuel and Dubee would’ve preferred waiting until Monday.

“I don’t like doubleheaders,” Manuel said. “It’s tough to win two games and it’s tough for our pitching.”

  34. brian Says:

Don’t know where people get tehir info, team website says no tv for sunday night. I thought they should have done a traditional double header but we all know management won’t bite the bullet and take 1 less gate than they have to. Monday made the most sense to all but the brewers are scared.

  35. Greg V. Says:

I just like it that I had 1060 on the whole way up waiting to see if they’d cancel and they announced it when I was at the BROAD STREET EXIT! I’m suing the Phils for gas and time wasted driving through Philly during rush hour!

  36. brian Says:

Greg, I agree totally it’s not like it hadn’t started raining until 6, it was raining all day and actually had stopped by game time. What I can’t stand even more is when they play post season games in conditions they would never play in otherwise. If we’re going to play our most important games in monsoons then why postpone regular season games at all.

Also, I know why……we all do tv $$$ but it doesn’t make it any more ridiculous

  37. Manny Says:

The only thing about this is that Hamels can get an extra-days rest (for now). No excuses, Cole…you better win that game.

The potentially bad consequence is that our bullpen is gonna take a hit on Sunday (if, for example, Blanton only goes 5 innings on the first game)

  38. griffin Says:

Thankfully they didn’t agree to play on Monday-we would’ve had to face Sabathia. Play the doubleheaders like everyone else and quit whining.

  39. christopher Says:

    who is whining?

  40. Greg B Says:

No excuses out of anyone. Its crunch time. Our bullpen wont take any hits cause Blanton and Myers are gonna pony up and go 8 a piece. Must win-weekend, than remainder of season.
