Gamenight: Marlins (72-72) At Phillies (79-65)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Tue, September 09, 2008 06:10 PM
Headline: Back in rotation, Kendrick looks to rebound
The Major Players: Kyle Kendrick, Chase Utley, Shane Victorino, Rudy Seanez, Chris Volstad, Jorge Cantu
The Venue: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pa..
The Number: 1.5 games behind (Mets)
The Phillies hit the ball hard, beating Anibal Sanchez and the Marlins 8-6 Monday night. Now they’ll face Chris Volstad, who shut them out over six when he faced the Phils earlier this season. Kyle Kendrick returns to the rotation after a tough Labor Day loss to the Nationals. Rain is expected tonight.
Sweet Lou: Who has hit Volstad the best in more than two at bats? How about Lou Marson — a .375 hitter lifetime against Volstad.
Roy Hobbs Excellence: Here’s a somewhat useless stat: Every 5.55 at bats, expect Greg Dobbs to drive someone in.
The Roll Along: With five more steals, Jimmy Rollins will tie his career high of 46. He has now stole more than 20 bases in all eight of his full seasons.
Burrell Back: Pat Burrell is back in the lineup, hitting fifth. Shane Victorino is hitting sixth, with Jayson Werth back in the two-hole.
Phillies: Kyle Kendrick (11-8) 5.06 ERA
Marlins: Chris Volstad (4-3) 3.32 ERA
Gametime: 7:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 75, rain
Lineup: Rollins/Werth/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Victorino/Dobbs/Ruiz/Kendrick

Your gamenight beer: Okay — so Budweiser went forth and embraced crafts with their American Ale. How is it? Not bad. Really. Okay, so it ain’t no Stoudt’s APA or Sierra Nevada-quality ale, but I’d drink it at a party or bar, if it carried that with other Bud crud. So tap into one and eat some American food with it — you know, French fries. Ha. Or pizza. Ha. Ha.
Go Phillies!

Kendrick, dear God…Let’s score some runs!
September 9th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
I have a bad feeling about tonight. Wouldn’t be surprised to be 2.5 out by 10PM.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
I get the feeling these next few starts will determine Kendrick’s future with the Phils. A good outing will give him the inside edge for next year; a couple of up and down/ inconsistent outings puts him inline to be dealt (in a package deal) this off-season
September 9th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
Not a good start….
September 9th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
Bases loaded, not looking good
September 9th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
kendricks sucks, why do they keep throwing him out there?
September 9th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
2 runs in already
And Kendrick gets his boos
September 9th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
should’ve started Happ tonight
September 9th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Happ should start on Thurs –bigger game vs. the Brewers
September 9th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
You’re right, Choke Utley. Someone else should definitely have his spot in the rotation.
I’m one of the highest paid players on the team, so I have to be good, right?
September 9th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
If he gives up more runs, he can’t be the 5th starter anymore.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
good point Manny… i rescind my last comment. who should’ve started this game though? definitely not Kendrick…
September 9th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
Kendrick is a joke
September 9th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
haha..you should be warming up in the bullpen Adam Eaton
September 9th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
can we put this guy out to pasture? How long do we have to pay for him having a decent (and fluky) year last year. The guy has over a 5 ERA!!! He is worthless.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
I would’ve still gone with Kendrick for today’s game. Better than Eaton! And after that rough inning, he MAY get back in the groove…..at least he struck out the last batter
September 9th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
With no off day, who would you throw out there? Kendrick was the guy to throw tonight.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Werth: WOW!
September 9th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
can Carlos Carrasco really do any worse than Kendrick? I’m just so sick of giving away games when he pitches.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Jayson werths the man
September 9th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
wow… amazing steals by Werth!
September 9th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
At least we get one back, thank god for Werth.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Johnny Wacko wants to seal the deal on his starting position for ‘09. i think it’s safe to say he’s got it
September 9th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
Griffin, Kendrick was one of our most consistent pitchers for nearly a year. He was solid in 2007 and solid the first half of 2008. He’s in a big slump but I definitely think that he can get back on track. Carrasco may be riskier than Kendrick at this point.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
I can’t believe we scored a run off Voltron.
This just may be our night.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
I think we all agree that eaton and taguchi should never touch the field for the rest of the year. I think its kind of funny how charlie uses bruntlett as a defensive replacement over taguchi
September 9th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
anyone who looked at Kendrick’s 2007 peripheral stats (K/9 innings, Fly ball %, runners stranded %) knew that last year was a lucky fluke. Let’s face it-he got lucky. He was never a good prospect and this year is reality.
I’m rooting for the guy, but I have to be realistic-there just isn’t much there.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
What I don’t like about this is that Happ is warming up… damn it
September 9th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
Word is that Moyer is pitching on Thursday.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
They gotta get Kendrick outta there NOW and we cannot use him as a starter anymore.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
Moyer starting Thursday? isn’t that kind of a short amount of rest time for him?
September 9th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
I don’t know how I feel about Moyer pitching on 3-days rest…
Jesus, Kendrick, what happened to you?
September 9th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
They should just put Eaton today..and let Happ play Thursday
September 9th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
DEFINITELY PUT EATON ON NOW…. We pretty much lost this game. Save Happ for Thursday!
September 9th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
If they are going to throw Happ now – DOWN 4 RUNS ALREADY – why wouldn’t they start him and least give him a chance???????????? This is the worst managing I can imagine. Jesus christ doesn’t matlock have any sense?
September 9th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Cya kendrick ur major leauge career is over
September 9th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
wow… game over for Kendrick. sorry son, but your time is up. this is going to be a long night.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
wow.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
If we’re not winning the division, neither are you.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
I agree Kyle…they’re just going to waste Happ in a game in which we are 6 runs behind!
Agh
September 9th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Nice job leaving him in Charlie to serve a home run you moron.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
say goodnight, that should get rid of even the firmest Kendrick backers. When you start a game and give your team 0.0% chance of winning, you’re not a major leaguer. Good luck in Triple-A next year (hopefully in someone else’s organization).
Thanks for 2007, but no thanks for giving it all back in 2008.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
2-0 Mets.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Now who’s gonna pitch on Thursday? Seriously!
September 9th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Comon guys were only down by 6
September 9th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
This better be it for Kendrick in our starting rotation.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
I’m available.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
Most pathetic managing ever. I cannot stand Manuel and he is costing us the division. The writing was on the wall with Kendrick. I hope Manuel retires to shitville and never comes back. WHAT A COMPLETE AND UTTER WASTE OF USING HAPP. I sincerely hope Manuel is up for the Jeltz award! Seriously.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO KENDRICK
In all seriousness though, looks like Moyer for Thursday
And wouldn’t it be hillarious and just like the Phils to come back and win 8-7?
I’m calling it right now. Happ goes 4 strong, Condrey a scoreless 7th, Seanez a scoreless 8th, and the phils come back and win it
September 9th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Hey …but what was there to do??? We needed a pitcher for today..and another for Thursday… Kendrick slightly improved at the end of the 1st and beginning of the 2nd. Taking out Kendrick too early in the game would ruin plans for Thursday, too. So taking Kendrick out in the 2nd inning is a VERY tough call.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
That’s why u live in oakland
September 9th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
It’s unfortunate, but the way the schedule is with no off days, it’s a hand cuffed situation.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
I am serious. If the Phillies lose this game and Matlock doesn’t get the Jeltz award, the awards mean NOTHING. I mean NOTHING.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
I would’ve taken Kendrick out before the game.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
well, thats it for kendrick this year. that was extra horrible. 7 runs. thats like adam eaton bad. who goes thursday now that they burned happ? moyer? bring up…carrasco??? no eaton again. if kendrick cant get it together he wont be here next year. thats extra bad. i like the guy, feel bad for him, but come on man.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Kendrick should been pulled after giving up the 3 runs in the 1st inning Charlie should of known Kendrick wasn’t going to settle in he sucks…Horrible managing.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
There is NO HAND CUFFING AT ALL FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. IF you don’t plan on using happ, then DONT USE HIM. If you are going to use happ then START HIM. For godssakes, has anyone besides me been watching Kendrick? The logic is staring Matlock right in his fat face.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Kendrick is the best!
September 9th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
billy wagner would’ve started this game better than Kendrick.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
using his right hand
September 9th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
It just sucks when your manager puts you in a losing situation from the start when rosters are expanded and you have a chance to THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX.
I am sorry, but I am sick over this. I am done with Charlie. Done.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Should have used Eaton tonight….I bet he’s afraid to use him at home because of the crowd. This manager is a joke!!! Moyer cannot go on short rest. We are in serious trouble here now, esp with the mets winning. Great job Charlie you moron!
September 9th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
theyd better get to voltron here. oh no wait they went three and out so fast it just made your head spin
September 9th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
I’m talking about tonight. Who are you going to throw out there? Who are you going to throw in relief today after Kendrick is taken out? Carrasco isn’t with the club and posted an over 4 ERA in the minors. He seems like a bigger risk, since he’s unproven talent at the major league level. It’s the 2nd inning now and we need innings where every game is a must win. Worry about winning today, and approach Thursday when it comes.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
The Phillies should’ve realized how lucky Kendrick was last year and not handed him an automatic rotation spot out of spring training. Once Kendrick was horrible in spring training, they should’ve explored other options. Handing him a start in September and crossing your fingers is like walking through a jungle and hoping you don’t get bit by a mosquito.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
The Nats got 2 back on Guzman homerun. Tied 2-2.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
It’s not even worth posting on here tonight cuz its just gonna be very depressing. I’ll be watching, praying for a come back. later
September 9th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
Wow…easy. Everyone’s taking this way too far. OK: Bad call by Charlie. Really bad call. But I can’t believe that you guys are willing to throw away all the positives in a heartbeat.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
actually its remarkable kendrick made it this deep into the season.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Call up Carrasco and let him go on Thursday…I don’t agree with with Charlie putting Happ in,but he really didn’t have any other choice because Durbin already went 2 inning yesterday and Eaton will dig us in a even bigger hole because we have proven we can come back from 6 and 7 run deficits.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
It’s a disgusting managerial move. Happ will go 5-6 scoreless for NOTHING. I want to pee in Charlie’s bud light.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
dude kendrick cant get anybody out anymore. he cant be a starter if he cant at least keep it to 4/5 runs through 6 innings. thats BELOW a quality start and he cant even reach that
September 9th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Griffin: Wagner probably would have, he is naturally right handed and taught himself how to throw left handed.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Happ will take Kendrick’s spot for the rest of the season. Carrasco (or Carpenter if Carrasco has been shut down) spot starts Thursday. Big game tomorrow and huge series against the Brewers coming up.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Manny: I am not throwing away the positives: the fact remains the team has the second best run-differential in the league, yet ranks 5th in the overall standings. THAT REFLECTS POORLY on the manager.
Look at the talent: Howard, Utley, Rollins, Burrell, Vic, Werth, Hamels, Myers, Lidge, etc…
This team should be in the playoffs. ANd I do blame Manuel for much of it, yes.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
yeah i think itll be carpenter because i think theyre afraid to break out carrasco too soon (see floyd, gavin)
September 9th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
you also have to blame rich dubee and pat gillick and the trainers and the owners and the people that make the other hot dogs, not the good hatfield ones
September 9th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Ryan Church homerun. Mets up 3-2
September 9th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
Yea Rich Dubee deserves some blame too…They gotta let him go after this season.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
Kyle: let me remind you that we STILL have a very good shot at the playoffs. We’ve been in the race for the playoffs all season long!! Manuel deserves credit for that.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
WOW Delgado just crushed one!
September 9th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
Frontrunners.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
Delgado strikes again, 5-2 Mets
September 9th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
Jesus, Rich Dubee has managed to have his team with the 5th best ERA in the majors. Yea, I’m sure he sucks, too….
September 9th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
Watching the mets game….it just looks to me like they want it more and that makes me want to puke! F ing Delgado HR 5-2 ny
September 9th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
Did someone flick a switch and turn on Carlos Delgado? He’s turned into a beast.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
Most of the issues with this team have to do with a crappy GM and FO.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Delgado thinks he’s still in BP or something. The guy has been ridiculous.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
rivelz=homosexual
September 9th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Hey guys. Are you watching the Mets game through the SNY or MASN feed?
September 9th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
The GM IS very crappy…I do believe that
September 9th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
Good God. This Mets team is no joke. Phils better dig deep, lest they want to be playing golf in October.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
It’s too bad, with the Brewers faltering we really have a chance.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
I’m watching SNY, I live outside NYC. I laughed out loud when they suggested Delgado could be the MVP. Sorry but April and May still count.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Is anyone watching the game through the MASN feed? I’d like to watch it through that feed.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Delgado can’t be the MVP. Even as a Mets fan I would rather have Howard as the MVP.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Interesting question about Delgado and MVP. If he continues at this pace, he has to at least be considered – just because he has been as better than everyone else in the second half as he was worse than everyone else in the first half.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
taco bella=transexual
September 9th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
As do June July and August which eliminates any Phillies.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
I agree with you Smith that he has to be considered but I really don’t see it. I just don’t.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
Great..just what we needed
September 9th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Nats got one back.. 5-3..2 guys on base, 1 out
September 9th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
HIT!!! …Nats tied 5-5!!!
September 9th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
I think it’s almost safe to say the Phillies are done tonight.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
I hope Kyle Kendrick and Adam Eaton sit in the bullpen together for the rest of the season. Unless, of course they’re eliminated, then throw em all you want. Matter of fact bring Kendrick
September 9th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
rivelz= faggot who would rather have a phillie as mvp then a met, considering he is a met fan and comes on phillies blogs to talk ncie with them, homo
September 9th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
Rather? Probably not. Admitting the truth isn’t necessarily admitting your preference.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
You know, it’s nice and all that the Nats tied it, but sitting here relying on the Mets to lose… it just makes me sick to my stomach.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
# RiVLez Says:
September 9th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Delgado can’t be the MVP. Even as a Mets fan I would rather have Howard as the MVP.
yes marlins troll, rather
September 9th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
taco bella: stop it, your so tough online
September 9th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
New pitcher for the Marlins.. We need to hit now!
September 9th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
crush bullpen slop
September 9th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Hahahaha, Ollie P really came through for the Phils. Maybe when they see the Nats are winning again the Phils will turn it on.
I can dream.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
they should have left chris voltron in. serioulsy, why take your foot off the pedal against us?
September 9th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Alright…lets do this.. this game is not over.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
And Nats are winning now!
September 9th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Nats took the lead 6-5.
This pitcher for Florida has a 13+ ERA
September 9th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
LOL WTF are the Mets doing.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
HOME RUN!!!!!
September 9th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
wow that guy IMMEDIATELY gave up a home run to the big guy. LOOOONG DRIVE
September 9th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
7-5 Washington
September 9th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Howard sucks he shouldn’t even be MVP. Delgado is the true MVP.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
I think Volstad was injured. I don’t know why they would take him out this early otherwise, even in a blow out.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Lets go Phillies…..!!! We have 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th innings to get more runs…We can pull this off
(And hopefully the Nats will continue to help out..Go nats!)
September 9th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
sometimes it is hard to want to trade howard because of those numbers. but i still dont think hell be here.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
ALMOST HR by pat the BAT!!! He’s back ..Pat gets a triple!
September 9th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
rivelz, get friends
September 9th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
Alright..down by 5 now..doesn’t look as as bad as losing 9-1
September 9th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
taco bella: will you be my friend?
September 9th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
rivelz, get a life, or better yet become a phillies fan casue true met fans dont do this homo
September 9th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
EXCUSE ME. but does anybody really believe this team can go into next season with blanton, kenrick in the rotation plus how much does moyer have left. Cheap bast****owners go get some pitching don’t try to sell us on happ he is unproven.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Geoff: I think Howard will be here for the ‘09 season. They may trade him after that but I think he will be back for at least one more season.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
It amazing how bad both the mets and phillies are its a weak division.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Howard is one of our best players…I hope he stays for at least 5 more years
September 9th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
I am now a Phillies fan. Screw those spics on the Mets.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:32 pm

September 9th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Oh, man…… momentum killer
September 9th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
I can fit a whole baseball bat in my ass.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
That HR is deflating, let’s just pray for Mets and Brewers losses.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:34 pm

September 9th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
I saw a naked girl once and it made my pee pee feel funny. My mother got mad at me for watching her undress, though.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
rivelz, putting everything aside, trying to have a normal convo, are you a met fan or phillie fan?
September 9th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Let’s get back to baseball — sheesh.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Mets Score Update:
7-7
September 9th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
I’m a huge baseball fan but love the Mets also. Don’t hate the Phillies. The only team I can really say I hate is the Braves.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
And just to clear it up, I definitely did not wrote those things with your name. No matter how much you think it is me.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
I wrote them myself. I was thinking about seeing my mom naked. Why is my keyboard sticky?
September 9th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
HAHA
September 9th, 2008 at 8:45 pm

September 9th, 2008 at 8:59 pm

September 9th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
I love it when a plan comes together.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Oh look at that, there’s some important September baseball games going on…..
September 9th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Let’s Go Mets!
September 9th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
hillo
September 9th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
lets go vic
September 9th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
wowwwwwwowowowowow
September 9th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Matt stairs, joe blanton, and scott eyre could be offensive lineman for the eagles
September 9th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
There’s another one. Didn’t Florida have a game like this last week against Atlanta?
September 9th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
this is getting ridiculous
September 9th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Holy Small Ball Batman!
September 9th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
ridiculously awesome
September 9th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
The Mets announcers just called the game for the Phils
September 9th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Evan, what did they say?
September 9th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
The Phils are gonna win the game cause the Marlins’ bullpen is no good or something along those lines. Pretty negative, I guess they can’t shake last year. I’m more of a wait and see person myself, I’d like to see a couple runs from the Nats for some breathing room.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
No Evan, the Mets announcers aren’t basis.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
I would’ve used a pinch runner for Stairs there. Would’ve scored on that fly ball.
Evan, I’m a wait and see guy also. I think we as Philly fans have eternally learned that nothing is guaranteed until it is official.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
If u could have one person up in this situation who would it be?
September 9th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Honestly, the person I’d have up in the situation was just up, and that was Werth. But Stairs being a slower dude couldn’t tag up on that fly ball.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
this is great
September 9th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Watching on my computer – should stairs have scored there?
September 9th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
cmon utley!
September 9th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Kyle, Stairs would’ve been caught dead just because he’s a slow guy. The throw was off a little to the left of the plate, but I still think he would’ve been caught.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
utley… always un-clutch
September 9th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
kendricks terrible…wth
September 9th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
If that was burrell on third cholly would have no problem pitch running for him in the 6th
September 9th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Golson could have pinch run for Stairs, but hindight is 20/20. Plus Golson can’t hit well and didn’t do the best job fielding last time.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
That’s the advantage though with September callups. Golson could have pinch run and gotten that run. Doesn’t mean he’d have to come in and play the field.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Mets take lead 9-8….
September 9th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Back to back HRs from the Mets. Delgado got his second. That was quite nasty.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Nevermind, 10-8….
September 9th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
mets just went back to back to take a 10-8 lead. beltran and delgado just hit his second of the game.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
I think the Mets just showed Utley what clutch hitting looks like. The guy has been just dreadful in those situations.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
I hate to say it, but I sincerely think Delgado deserves top 3 candidate MVP consideration. He’s single handidly picked up that Mets team and carried them. How many deciding runs has he hit for them?
September 9th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
great starting pitching for all 4 teams playing Haha
September 9th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
delgado isnt human right now, he reminds me of the year howard hit 57 everyday he just kept going
September 9th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Guys, I’m available to start!!!!
September 9th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
Charlie didn’t put eaton in the game tongith which shows that even down 9 to 1 we won’t ever have to see him pitch again in a phillies uniform yes
September 9th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
exactly. like in order for eaton to go out there he has to be the last guy left fresh and EVERYONE else has to be gassed
September 9th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Cinci tied it up against the Brew Crew. 1-1 in the 5th.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
i wanna catch the mets cuz i despie them
September 9th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Phillies losing 10-8
Mets winning 10-8
September 9th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
way to keep the hitting going
September 9th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
This is why I hate comebacks. Because if you can’t make it back all the way, it is more heartbreaking then to just accept a really bad defeat early on.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
I second that SJ MIke
September 9th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
strike out by howard is why he is leading the league in HRs and RBI and still doesnt have MVP buzz
September 9th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
It’s hard to fault the offense when they score 8 runs. But if UTLEY could just get one clutch hit all year, we’d be tied.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
i could easily now see delgado winning MVP
September 9th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
mets gotta make it first
September 9th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
and i deff agree with SJ Mike it seems the phillies are capable of being down by alot then scoring alot and then just sitting
September 9th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
That’s why that one Phils loss to the Mets where we came back to 10-9 and lost was one of the more painful ones all year to me.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
If Utley starts hitting like Delgado, he may end up getting the MVP ha
>Good job Madson!
September 9th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Gotta get 2 runs. Get some baserunners.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
brew crews done 3-1
September 9th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
down
September 9th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Division is still best way, because St. Louis and Houston are still breathing down our necks in the Wild Card.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
ya and we have to win games like these, kendrick is god awful
September 9th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
4-1 Cinci now.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
What a good at bat by Feliz.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Noooooo taguchi
September 9th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
What an at bat by Feliz
September 9th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
When are we going to finally see some Tad Iguchi?
September 9th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Golson or Iguchi would’ve been a better pinch runner choice than So-So
September 9th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
lets go jimmy
September 9th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
Coste, take another pitch there!
September 9th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
Oh sweet God, Werth, here’s a big BIG opportunity!
September 9th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Rollins cud take 2nd easly on this guy
September 9th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
Huge spot here.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
He hit in a good spot, but with Florida playing that deep, easy play.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
shit
September 9th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
God damn this site is slow. I hate having to score 11 runs to win. It makes you mad at things like Jimmy Rollins not stealing second which would have made that Werth hit a double.
Or Utley gagging in a big-spot.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
What I don’t understand was why Taguchi didn’t steal 2nd, which he would’ve scored then on Rollins’ hit.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Mets won
September 9th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
mets won…i hate kendrick
September 9th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
or not putting a pinch runner for fat Stairs
September 9th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
There’s your 2 runs….
September 9th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Having Rollins steal seemed like a no brainer.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Utley, Howard, Burrell, and God willing Victorino also….
September 9th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
and brad lidge is awesome
September 9th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
utley needs to get on base, howard needs to stroke a double. pat needs to have nothing bad happen and victorino can drive in the tying runs
September 9th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Alright: Utley-Howard-Burrell
In theory, this combo should be able to score two runs against most pitchers
September 9th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
utley gets on, howard homers, burrel strikes out, vic hits a triple and …? hahah
September 9th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
aww man, come on now. you gotta rough up arthur rhodes.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Arthur Rhodes liked giving up runs for us. Why not return the favor?
September 9th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
can we get 2 runs in the 9th. i’m hoping yes but realistically i think we’re in for some di`sappointment.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
its the phillies, they will load the bases score 1 run and make it intresting from there
September 9th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
I’m happy to see Pat still in the game.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
ok phils you have to win to keep up with the mets now again
September 9th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
i’ll put my money on some hits but not runs
September 9th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
2 outs to dissapointment
September 9th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
disappointment*
September 9th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
seriously, if we would’ve started with happ in the first place this game would’ve been won
September 9th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Damn it, I hate these games…
September 9th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
UTLEY BETTER HIT
September 9th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
what the f? clutch hitting? you can rough up some bullpen trash but not ARTHUR RHODES!!!!
September 9th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
No, Utley is a gag artist.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
wow.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
KEEP ON SWINGING HOWARD!
September 9th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
Any minute now the Mets trolls will come over.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
i can hear them mike, scurrying out of the basement foundation
September 9th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Wouldn’t want to disappoint!
September 9th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
9th inning. C’mon Phils! I believe in you guys!
Whose with me???
September 9th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Say goodnight now. It’s tough to fault the offense. Remember: Kyle Kendrick: 4 outs, 7 earned runs. Remember: Manuel, sure Kyle should start, he’s our big-game pitcher?
September 9th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
And we’re 2.5 behind
September 9th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
well. basicaly, we know that kendrick is done until he reengineers himself. happs in the rotation now. if happ started theyd have won this game 8-3
September 9th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
10-8, sit down.
2.5!
September 9th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Happ, HA!
3.1 IP, 5 HR, 3 R, 3 ER!
September 9th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Hey look at that, the Mets won the division…oh wait, there’s still over 2 1/2 weeks left.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
5 H*
September 9th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
I only did what my Magic 8 ball told me to do!!! Don’t blame me… I’m going to Toys R Us tomorrow to buy a new one and I’m going to write a harsh letter to the manufacturer of the old one. I might use naughty words, too.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
WHY WOULD YOU SWING 2 and 0 YOU DOUCHE BAG! YOU CANT HIT A TWO RUN HOMER WITH NO ONE ABOARD!
September 9th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Mets Magic Number = 16!
September 9th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
…..after tommorow the mets have 17 games left
September 9th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Heeeeere’s TROLL!!!
September 9th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
if the phils keep this up maybe i’ll try and get a prescription for some anti-depressants
September 9th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Guys, remember how a trip to the minors worked for Brett Myers. It did the same for me, I swear!
September 9th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
3 games out with 17 left to play
September 9th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Brew Crew tied it up 4-4 in the 7th
September 9th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
god is cruel to phillies nation.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
brew needs to lose
their season might hinge on the crew series this weekend. i have the cole hamels vs dave bush game sat
September 9th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
philadelphia sports quote: shoulda, coulda, woulda
September 9th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
It’s get late early. the wc is our only chance. It’s the only thing we control.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
I’m available to manage in 09.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Willie come back to us as a Citi Field vendor!
September 9th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
based on what sout there. im openly calling for brian cashman for GM
September 9th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Where’s the prodigy, Lou Marson!?
September 9th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
charlie forgot they called him up.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Amazing what cowards Mets trolls are that they have to take other people’s names and such.
There’s still 2 1/2 weeks left and neither team has proven they will outright win it.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Thanks for the vote of confidence but we all know I can’t manage for my life. All I can do is wave a big, fat checkbook around and, since the Phillies management doesn’t spend money, my shortcomings would become far too transparent. I’m staying with the moneybags at the Yankee organization till they figure this out.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Geoff – I think the Yankees are going to re-sign Cashman. But I’d be all for the move. We need a guy who is willing to open up the wallet.
This loss tonight stings really f***ing bad. Not looking good. And the Mets don’t appear like they will collapse again.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
I’m not as confidant with the Wild Card just because St. Louis and Houston are directly behind us, a game and a half separating between the two.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
ok then go for amaro.; with ruben amaro as their GM they will finish with a losing record next year and fail to make the playoffs his ENTIRE term. hes red meat for the other GMs to prey upon
September 9th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
If the Mets don’t collapse this year, what will we have to hope for next year? We might have to actually root for our Phillies to win. I’m not sure I know how to do that. Does anyone know? Can you post instructions?
September 9th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
PERIOD!
September 9th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Less then 3 games is hardly a collapse. It’s whoever plays best in the stretch and is in the winning column on the final day. Still a lot of baseball left.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
I don’t want to see Kendrick on the mound again this season.
Sorry Kyle, but you are pitching awful right now.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
SJ Mike – We will be three out (loss column) of both the Mets and Brewers tonight (if Brewers lose). We don’t play the Mets at all, while we play Milwaukie 4 times. We control our fate in that sense.
And we miss Sabathia.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Sure Delgado hits home runs at Shea…..Its such a bandbox…Schmitty would have hit 700 homers there
September 9th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
Kyle, that’s pretty much why I say gaining 3 on either is hardly considered a collapse from any of the other teams.
I’m just kind of nervous with St. Louis and Houston (who is surging) directly behind us.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
bases loaded for the reds…lets go Hairston!
September 9th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
I dont know why Charlie left Kendrick in so long….Man we dont have any leeway on the # of games left..we cant take a chance on Kendrick any more this year.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
Shea is a pitchers ballpark! If he was playing in Philly he would have 56 about now!
September 9th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Wow, Mets troll claimed victory in the NL East already. We all know how that goes when you do that 3 weeks ahead of time. Anything can happen and it is far from over.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
and well prolly have to deal with eagles dropping two games to the giants AGAIN. i hate losing to ny.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Reds suck dammit
September 9th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Ya, but the point is we play Milwaukie, we don’t play the Mets, so we can gain ground on them on our own.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
yeah, but do you want to start the brewers series 4 back or 3 back????
September 9th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
I don’t know how it lucked out that we miss Sabathia in a 4 game series.
Just sit back and hope for the best I guess.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
no we can’t. we’re gonna lose.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
b/c the reds could at least keep the phils deficit at 3, but i don’t see it happening now.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
jeez, i hate this scoreboard watching other teams – totally sucks.
reds have bases loaded, 1 out and can’t push the lead run across. just like the phucking phils.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
If Manuel would have taken Kendrick out right after the end of the first inning and then put Happ in to start the second inning, maybe Cantu does not get a 3-run home run and then the Phillies might have eventually won 8-7. Charlie, your team is in a pennant race and there are not many games remaining.
Smaller part of the blame has to go to the offense for not getting the tying runs home, twice; Werth, Utley. Have to come through in the big games guys! Why in the world did they not pinch-run for Stairs and then try to send the runner in for the ninth run? Got to get those runners in in big games regardless! Poorly managed game.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
Philly trolls still think they have a chance. Mets are doing it without a closer.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
3 back, of course. But at this point my spirits are low, my hopes dashed. I believe in this team, but I don’t see the mets folding this year. There is a reason last year was such a gag, because it rarely happens. There is a reason, mathematically speaking, why we have about a 25 percent chance to make the playoffs. IT is difficult to overcome a 3 game deficit with 17 to play when your teams don’t play. It is *somewhat* easier to accomplish the feat when you are playing head to head.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
The problem is the Phillies are not beating the teams they should be beating. They have been streaky lately. They are better then the Marlins and Nationals but they are losing to them because they do not have a good starting rotation.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
ok, going to the 9th with reds still tied 4-4. Go Reds! Please keep us 3 back….
September 9th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Oh, you just woke them up by talking about their rotation. Here come the delusional pitcher-by-pitcher comparisons…
September 9th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Listen all the Mutts fans out there – here’s the deal: Delgado is DEFINITELY on the juice. No question. That’s the only answer as to how the old man came back from the dead in the 2nd half.
I swear I wish the Phils had a nasty pitcher, like Clemens in his prime. I’d let that guy go head hunting for Delgado.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
AC – I understand your frustration as an immature fan, but I don’t think Delgado is on the juice. What a lot of people haven’t been talking about much is that he had surgery on his wrist at the end of 2006, sustained multiple injuries in 2007, and then at the end of 2007 broke his hand. That can do a lot of damage to a guys swing and mechanics. And, well, now he has found his swing and mechanics. You’re talking about a guy that has put up hall of fame calibur numbers for years and years and years in a row. And the guy has never shown odd changes in physical appearance.
Sorry, but I don’t like when anyone irresponsibly suggests that a ballplayer is on the juice. Many have said it about Howard too – which I think is bullshit, and I can’t stand them either.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Fine Smith. I’d still send a pitch at his head – take some action to shake him up.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Oh yeah – and to say that you wish you had a pitcher that would throw at another guy’s HEAD is f***ed up. I don’t care who you root for, and I understand things get heated with fandom, but that is just f***ed up.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
Although, if the Phillies threw at his head, it would probably incite an on-field brawl, which would be cool, and really – the Phils could use something like that at this point. Too bad we don’t play them again.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
AC in NJ, I feel your pain! I understand you are a Phillies fan and probably have been for your whole life. And I understand you have not seen a championship for the Phillies for those 12 years and it is upsetting but maybe with some counciling you can get past that and hope for next year.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
god damn f**king reds. still can’t push across the lead run, now going to bottom of the 9th. we’ll be 4 back of the brewers in about 5 minutes.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
I can understand that I guess it would be cool for Santana or Martinez to throw at Utleys head too. Very cool!
September 9th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
f*ck you Mutts fan. it’s been 22 years and counting for you too, and it will be 23 after the flushing faggots flame out in round 1.
even with the Yankees 10 gb, mutts are still the number 2 team in NYC – always will be!!
September 9th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
AC – calm down dude. Ignore the trolls. Seriously, I don’t understand why anyone pays any attention to trolls. They exist on every team’s blog and they are not representative of any fanbase. Just ignore them.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
OK the Mets have more championships in thier 45 years (2) then the Phillies 125 years (1). And talk about losing in round 1 of the playoffs? Atleast they will win a game in the post season and not get swept like the Phillies! HAHAHA!!
September 9th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
Gagne in for Milwaukee. Good sign.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
AC in NJ, Yes the Mets will be #2 in NY because of the Yankees but the Phillies will always be #2 to the METS in baseball!!!
September 9th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
Ya, it’s a big accomplishment losing 3-1 rather than 3-0.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
It feels better then getting to the post season and getting swept.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
But I am not worried because the Mets will get passed the first round!
September 9th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
Phils haven’t won a playoff game in 15 years.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
mets trolls are just praying that phils don’t get the wild card. you won’t admit it, but you are thinking it.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
Sure, I bet it does. Let me know how that four game exit feels.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
AC will be back shortly… it was time for his bottle.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
Don’t make fun of the lack of Phillies championships. The great sports city that is Philadelphia can always counter that by listing all their Superbowl wins! The Eagles more than make up for the Phillies with their… wait… is that really true? ZERO???? Oh… never mind.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
I never understood the swept in the first round argument.
The Rockies were barrelling through everyone they faced. In September and October, up until the World Series, they lost less then 5 games total out of 30 some.
Seriously, had the Mets limped in the shape they were in, they would’ve gotten crushed worse then us.
So that isn’t an argument. It’s desperation.
Making it the playoffs is sure as hell a lot better then not, especially after the most historic collapse by a baseball team in regular season history.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
The Eagles have 3 NFL championships. 48, 49, and 60. The Superbowl is the same as the NFL Championship.
The City of Philadelphia also won 5 World Series with the Athletics, who were in Philly for their 50+ years in Philly.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
Let me explain the ’swept int he first round’ argument for the hard of thinking…
The Phillies had a division title gift wrapped and delivered to their door. They couldn’t win the division on their own – as evidenced by all the losers here counting on a Mets collapse to provide you with any chance of seeing another division title. And what did they do with that title? NOTHING! ZERO! ZILCH!
You said it yourself: you didn’t do anything more than a team limping due to injuries could have done… and the Phillies didn’t have those to at least provide some explanation for their lack of performance. They just sucked… plain and simple.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Mets Troll ties his self confidence to a sports team that has no affiliation with the city at all. It’s disgusting. Oh my god the team won in 69 when I wasn’t born! I am better than you are! Hey they won in 1986 when you weren’t born, I am better than you are!
September 9th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
SJ Mike – All you need to do is invent a time machine and you can go back to a period in history when Philadelphia sports was relevant. Good luck with that.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Mets Troll, and the Phillies weren’t missing a great majority of their key players due to injuries during the stretch? Utley being out for a month. What about Hamels going on the DL for a bit. Losing Brett Myers for near 2 months. Howard out.
Excuses man.
The Rockies were just a far better team. I guess the Diamonbacks sucked too since the Rockies swept them, right? So did every other team the Rockies steam rolled in September.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
Wait, so Mets Troll, past team’s history is relevant such as when the Mets won a World Series in the 60s and in 86 when I was 3 years old?
It’s ok to reference that? But referencing success with us, no that’s stupid?
You’re so a freakin’ hypocrite.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
it never ceases to amuse me how the mets fans that troll on here consistently demonstrate their inability to spell simple words and construct a simple sentence. i guess that’s the silver lining in their presence here.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
Mets Troll just shows how stupid he is with that comment. To say the Phils couldn’t win the division on their own last year is just dumb – at the end, the phils won the games they needed too, while the mets lost. Same as this year, except the mets are winning (now) while the phils are losing.
If we take your stupid argument to its logical conclusion this year, then one can say the mets can’t win the division this year on their own – they have to rely on a phillies collapse (albeit over a longer period of time – see phils pathetic late June, July record, where they gave up a 7.5 game lead and horrible interleague record) in order to win.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
I just can’t wait for the Mets to get waxed. And they will. Certainly they ain’t beating the Cubs or the Dodgers or the Red Sox or the Rays, etc…
September 9th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
ryan – Before you criticize others’ grammer (the weakest argument ever presented, usually by someone who has nothing to offer), you should figure out how to capitalize the first letter of a sentence… and maybe the first letter in your name, too. Dumbass…
September 9th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
AC, remeber, when the Mets succed, it’s legit. When they fail, well, they dont’ fail…they hand it over because they’re just that nice.
I suggest for Mets fans that until you clinch it, keep your mouths shut, because this just reminds me so much of the “champagne will taste that much sweeter” quote from last year.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
SJ Mike – Umm… yeah… when the ancient history doesn’t even involve the teams that are playin today, YES!
September 9th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
So the Oakland Athletics aren’t playing today? Could’ve fooled me.
The Eagles beating the Green Bay Packers for the NFL Championship, but the Packers aren’t around anymore, are they?
September 10th, 2008 at 12:00 am
AC in NJ – Put simply (for your benefit), no Mets collpapse last year and the Phillies winning all the games “they needed to” would have amounted to what?
You can’t have it both ways.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:01 am
Yeah…the Oakland Athletics are playing today. You might want to count them… but then I’d have to go and count the Dodgers and the Giants and you still come out a loser.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:01 am
Last year the Phillies beat the Mets when they needed to, which was an ultimate deciding factor.
This year, the Mets have beaten the Phillies when they need to.
Keep in mind the Phillies have held first more days this year then your precious Mets have. So I guess the Mets didn’t earn first place, the Phils handed it to them, right?
You’re such a damn hypocrite.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:03 am
Mets Troll – put simply (for your benefit), no Phils collapse this year, and Mets winning all the games “they needed to” would have amounted to what? Phils winning the division by 3 to 8 games margin.
Ok, you can’t have it both ways either. SJ Mike is totally right – you are a hypocrite who views things through the lens of “when Mets win, it’s legit, when they fail – they don’t fail, they just hand it over to others…”
f*ck you. you’ll choke in round 1, and finally that dump called shea will be torn down.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:03 am
Are you saying the Phillies collapsed this year? I’m not. Its still a fight. I’m only a hypocrite when you put words in my mouth.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:03 am
Go Reds in the 11th!
September 10th, 2008 at 12:04 am
AC, its passed your bed time. Adults are speaking here… go to sleep.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:05 am
So Mets Troll, are you rooting for the Phils to get the wild card? Are you hoping for a Mets-Phils NLCS? Somehow, I don’t think you want any of that.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:06 am
Whats pathetic are Phils fans like AC in NJ who appear to be conceding that the Mets have the division wrapped up. Its 2.5 freaking games. Stop quitting on your team and quit bitching.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:06 am
If you can’t see the difference between winning the division because the team above you collapsed at the very end of the season AND having a season long struggle come down to the last 20 games or so, you’re the ones who are delusional and short-sighted.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:06 am
Mets Troll – learn to spell. the word is “past”, not “passed”. Clearly, you haven’t completed 5th grade yourself. Why don’t you go to sleep?
September 10th, 2008 at 12:07 am
I want the Phils to get to get the wild card since the Mets have a very proven record against them this year, Charlie Manuel can’t manage a big game, and the Phillies have a 15 year track record of being unable to win a single game in the post-season.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Mets Troll, last time I checked, there were 162 games in a season, not the final 20 in September.
And remember, there are still 2 1/2 weeks left and 2.5 games is far from undoable. Unless your Mets have clinched, don’t claim victory.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Hey AC in NJ, this isn’t a f*cking english class so how about we put the spell check aside and get over yourself.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:08 am
I love it when the only thing someone can come back at you with is a comment on your grammar… I accept your capitulation.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:09 am
And I am begging for a NLCS against the Phillies!!
September 10th, 2008 at 12:09 am
Mets Troll, if you can use track history of Phillies’ play, then it can go both ways. The current track history of the Mets is unable to cash in on a division title in September.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:11 am
Dan – I’m bitching, I’m venting, but I’m definitely not conceding or quitting on team. Phils will win 12 out of last 17 games, but obviously need some help from other teams – beating the mutts.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:11 am
I havne’t claimed victory. I’ve claimed Philadelphia sucks. I know there are 20+ more games left. I said: ITS STILL A FIGHT, dumbass. Try to make a point while avoiding putting words in the mouths of the people you’re arguing with. It might help you to stop looking like a moron.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:13 am
Touche’ SJ… its not a track record… its an isolated event… but, then again, so are Phillies WS wins.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:13 am
17 games left.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:13 am
Reds have man on 3rd, 2 outs in the 11th. They are intentionally walking Votto again – leaving it to Phillips. I think he blew it last time.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:14 am
Sir, I’m not cursing at you or throwing childish insults at you, so before you call someone a moron, look in the mirror.
I’m putting no words in your mouth, but you seem to love making hypocritical claims.
And seriously, if you think the Phillies suck so much, then why are you wasting your time here? Are you just in need of attention?
If this team was truly not a threat, then you’d have no reason to come here and go on the offensive.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:15 am
And Mets Troll, by that logic, so are the Mets World Series. I mean the 86 one, the Red Sox blew it in Game 6, did they not? And didn’t they need to let a soft grounder go through their legs which would have been an easy out at first to win?
Goes both ways, yet again.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:19 am
I’m not wasting my time here. I’m stuck at my desk with nothing better to do than to egg on the easily provoked… and earning good money doing it. You’re my monkey. You amuse me. Before you, AC in NJ amused me but he got boring fast. But you… YOU are one of the best monkeys on this site.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:19 am
Trolling Met: “this isn’t a f*cking english class so how about we put the spell check aside and get over yourself”
Mets Troll: “AC, its passed your bed time. Adults are speaking here… go to sleep” and “I love it when the only thing someone can come back at you with is a comment on your grammar… I accept your capitulation”
See, I’m just trying to talk some baseball here. It’s the Mets fans who are busy with the ad hominem attacks.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:21 am
We’ll never know… but with Mookie barreling his way up to 1st base and Buckner as deep as he was, it was no sure out. In any case, that blunder only corrected the situation. The Mets were favored to win that WS.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:22 am
Mets Troll – are you at work now? what do you do man?
September 10th, 2008 at 12:23 am
AC in NJ : f*ck you Mutts fan. it’s been 22 years and counting for you too, and it will be 23 after the flushing faggots flame out in round 1.
even with the Yankees 10 gb, mutts are still the number 2 team in NYC – always will be!!
Mets Troll – learn to spell. the word is “past”, not “passed”. Clearly, you haven’t completed 5th grade yourself. Why don’t you go to sleep?
I didn’t know this was talking baseball.. im out of here, i really hope both the philths and mets make the playoffs and meet in the nlcs.. peace
September 10th, 2008 at 12:23 am
Crisis Team Management… and there is currently no crisis to manage… other than on this blog site… but I think I stirred the pot to cause that!
September 10th, 2008 at 12:24 am
But Mets Troll, the winning run was at 2nd base and would not have scored. So by your logic, it took a Red Sox collapse for the Mets to win, who were leading the series at that time.
Favored on paper doesn’t mean win. You of all people should know that with 7 up and 17 to go. That’s the beauty of baseball.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:25 am
Well good news for both Mets and Phils fans….the Brewers lost
September 10th, 2008 at 12:25 am
Yeah.. honestly… I’m stirring the pot just for fun. You gotta admit, it got some juices flowing.
Here’s to October!
September 10th, 2008 at 12:25 am
the 06 Phils are just like the 86 mets… except they didn’t dominate the entire season… win a playoff game, an NL championship or a world series.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:26 am
07 whoops.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:26 am
ok trolling met – i hope they meet in the NLCS too, and peace to you sir.
however, while certainly opinions, i wouldn’t call my previous comments that you cite ad hominem attacks on mets fans. (if that’s what you were getting at).
September 10th, 2008 at 12:28 am
Thank you Reds! Go Reds tomorrow, and Go Phils. If the Phils can be 2 games back going into the Brewers series, maybe Charlie can go with a spot starter for Thursday (carrasco?) and let Moyer pitch on normal rest on Friday.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:28 am
SJ – You’re saying the runner on 2nd wouldn’t have scored. I’m saying we’ll never know (I don’t have a crystal ball to see what would have happened next). If you’re basing any conclusions on the statement that the runner on 2nd would not have scored, then it is YOUR logic. THAT is putting words in my mouth. I only look like a hypocrite when you do that… so its weak… at best.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:30 am
Mets Troll – got to hand it to you man, you do string together a good argument. Are you an attorney? Entrepreneur? Investment advisor? Engineer?
September 10th, 2008 at 12:34 am
As I don’t have a crystal ball to see what would have happened had the Mets won last year or what will happen this year.
But you like to make a claim like the Phillies winning the World Series is an isolated incident, yet when the Mets do it, it is legit, nevermind the fact that it took, without a doubt, a blatant mental error and miscue on a routine play for the Mets to win it.
But anyway, I must be off. Enjoy the rest of your playground mud slinging, seeing as you get an admittingly sick amount of pleasure from doing so.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:39 am
Take care SJ Mike – you make better arguments. I enjoy your posts.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:40 am
How many WS wins do the Phillies have? If its 1 then… guess what? That is the DEFINITION of “isolated”. Even if its one, at what point does that make it not legit? See? I didn’t say it wasn’t legit. That’s you putting more words in my mouth.
I’ll crank up the music box some other time and see who comes dancing.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:43 am
Mets Troll – you crack me up.
September 10th, 2008 at 12:46 am
No harm intended… and I apologize for the silly name calling. That’s something I don’t do.
A few laughs (granted, at someone’s expense), some juices flowing and some emotion for our teams is all I’m ever after.
Again… here’s to October!
