Gamenight: Phillies (76-63) At Nationals (53-86)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Wed, September 03, 2008 05:55 PM
Headline: For series win, Phils must overcome Perez
The Major Players: Odalis Perez, Pat Burrell, Pedro Feliz, Joe Blanton
The Venue: Nationals Park, Washington D.C.
The Number: 2.5 games behind (Mets)
Cole Hamels breezed by the hot Nationals lineup yesterday, racking up a win in 7.1 innings as the Phils took it 4-0. They’re currently 2.5-games behind the Mets after a New York win. Tonight they face lefty Odalis Perez, who has a great history against the Phils but hasn’t faced them this season.
Oh No, Not Odalis: In 14 games against the Phillies, Perez is 6-3 with a 2.70 ERA. Phils regulars are bad against him, including a .125-hitting Pedro Feliz.
So, A Start?: One Phillie who could benefit from playing against Perez? So Taguchi, with a .333 career average against him.
Blant Job: Last time Joe Blanton faced the Nationals? Five rinnings, four runs, eight hits. The Phils won that game late.
Shame On Shane: Shane Victorino is on the bench tonight. Eric Bruntlett is in right field, and Jayson Werth is in center field.
Phillies: Joe Blanton (11-8) 4.69 ERA
Nationals: Odalis Perez (6-10) 4.14 ERA
Gametime: 7:10 p.m. EST
Weather: 92, partly cloudy
Lineup: Rollins/Utley/Werth/Howard/Burrell/Feliz/Coste/Bruntlett/Blanton

Your gamenight beer: Grab a fat, short Negra Modelo. This dark beer is one of the better Latin beers out there, stronger and hoppier than most. Has even a slight chocolate taste. Goes well with any kind of Latin cuisine, so hey — taco night!
Go Phillies!

Boring day at work, nothing on the radio other than O and A on the XM so i’ll listen to the Phils/Nats. Good luck tonight and see y’all Friday at Shea.
September 3rd, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Vic out. Brunt in at left field. Werth in center.
What about Golson? Give him a freakin’ start if you’re pulling Vic.
September 3rd, 2008 at 6:13 pm
September 3rd, 2008 at 6:29 pm
You think So Taguchi’s friend’s say to him: “You’re So Taguchi and you don’t even know it.” ?
September 3rd, 2008 at 6:39 pm
This is for my fellow Mets “fans”. Now its good we have a regional rivalry which is great. Its good both teams fans can rib each other, but most you are acting like ass-halves,because it takes 2 of you to be an asshole.I’m serious. You forget this is the Phillies fans website,so show a little class. Most of you marching morons make the rest of us LEGITIMATE Mets fans look bad.So if you have nothing of substance to say,SHUT UP!In the words of Steve Martin from “Planes,Trains, and Automobiles” “Have a point,Its so much better for the listener”
September 3rd, 2008 at 6:48 pm
i can’t wait for this weekend. let’s get tonight over with.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:03 pm
lol Christian
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:10 pm
Huge sweep by the Mets – we can’t lose 2 games on them when we’re playing the Nationals.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Work the count J-Roll. We need to get to Perez early.
hahahhahahahahahahhaahhahah Chase was hit on the hip.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Oh boy, Utley HBP – could get ugly.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Golson, late defensive replacement for Bruntlett. Guarantee it.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:16 pm
Look for a Pier-Six brawl tonight.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:18 pm
The Nats announcers are trying to say that don’t think that HBP was retaliatory – my ass. What is it then, the biggest coincidence of all time? First pitch? That’s them trying to send a message.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:18 pm
Nice swing Howard. 2-0.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Didn’t see that coming, thought he was K’s as usual – big hit nonetheless.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:23 pm
I don’t understandf why the phillies never retaliate to Utley getting hbp. He leads the leauge and last year we lost him because of it. Someones gotta man up and take out another national
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:24 pm
i agree with jim some one needs to go inside on a nat and knock 1 down
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:27 pm
Well this is a must win game/series, so I wouldn’t just start picking off a few Nats unless the game is either out of reach or there’s 2 out with the 8 hole hitter up. In those cases, I would throw right at them.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:31 pm
burrell in a mets jersey hahahaha, like that would happen
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Blanton isnt pitching well at all, getting behind too much.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Corey Casto? Is this serious? He’s batting .193. Half the people on this blog could hit around there over a full season.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Nationals #1 – It’s a possibility.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:33 pm
The Phillies need to win tonight or the season is over! They are not winning more then 1 game vs. the Mets!!! If they are lucky they can win 1. If they lose tonight and get sweept bythe mets. Which is very possible! They will be 6 games out!
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:33 pm
NEPA – I agree. Bad.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:36 pm
PS – You’re such a douche. You honestly have nothing else to do? We will not be more than 3 games out at any point the rest of the season. Keep riding your high though, just remember the season isnt over until the 162nd game is played. You mets fans should know that.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Blanton sucks…Another one of Gillicks bad players were stuck with and we gave up our 2 top 5 prospects for this bum.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Victorino looked so angry. Anyone else see that?
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:39 pm
No, missed it. Was it a dugout shot of him?
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:39 pm
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:40 pm
Yeah, right by the steps. He had a crazed stare for about 30 seconds and the camera was on him the whole time.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:43 pm
mets still need a closer im still here pick me up
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:43 pm
He should be angry, what is Charlie doing not having him in there? At least see what Golson can do, not Bruntlett.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:44 pm
hey blanton got a k
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:44 pm
Our right-handed batters hit more weak ground balls to shortstop than anybody I’ve ever seen.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Blanton best move of the year!
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:45 pm
wagner is due back tuesday actually
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:46 pm
Yea i don’t know why Charlie keeps trying to put Brunlett,an infielder in the outfield…It’s getting annoying though.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:47 pm
hey mets fans let me break it to all of you. No world series with this team and the al is so far better then the nl its like a joke. Redsox, la angels of like everything, rays, whitesox , twins
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:49 pm
Wagner sucks so bring him back! I can not wait – because that just means MORE blown saves! BRING BACK WAGNER! BRING BACK WAGNER!
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:50 pm
also mets fans do not use the excuse of beating the yankees they are like a aaa team
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Nice chase.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Do we ever score a runner from 3rd with less than 2 out?
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:02 pm
hey muts fans u are the trash of new york
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:02 pm
Phillies Nation has been quiet. Alot of fans gave up on the team like they should of!
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:03 pm
haha “all day, err day” love that saying
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:03 pm
I would say get ready for football season but the Eagles blow also!!!
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:04 pm
and the mets fans think they are on top of the world being in first place and coming onto a other teams blog and acting like they own the place. At least we own blog and dont have to play second to the greatest sports team in the world the yankees. So go back to your janitor job and leace the rest of the world alone.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Oh, the Phillies fans jumped ship and are on the mets site!
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:04 pm
If we don’t get Casto out, I’m turning this game off.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:12 pm
look at the crappy mets tards spelling.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:18 pm
Yankees fan, how is the post season looking?
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:22 pm
mets fans do you want a history lesson on post season. So maybe we dont make it this year we made every year since 1995 and won 4 series 6 al titles and we kick your asses so bad in the world series in 2000 it wasnt even a contest. The 08 mets will loose in the LDS and cry.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Yankees fan, wow $202,000,000,000,000 payroll and dominated by Tampa? PRICELESS!
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:24 pm
THE METS AND PHILLIES CAN BY THE POST SEASON TOO IF THEY WANT TO. I AM ALL FOR BUYING CHAMPIONSHIPS!
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:24 pm
the rays are losing to the yankees right now and we have the season series against them.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:26 pm
AND IT WILL BE YOUR SEASON ENDING SERIES BEFORE YOUR WATCHING THE POST SEASON WITHOUT THE YANKEES!
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:26 pm
hey we spend the money cause we have it. The mets have it just dont spend it cause the wilpons are idiots and the phillies owners are like a stale comedy act.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:29 pm
hey tbs is dieing with us out just remeber that. you wont bring in ratings we do
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:32 pm
What the hell is this? My worst nightmare, evidently.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Looks like your nation is now the U.N.!
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:34 pm
These poor Yankee fans who’s season is done is trying to find a band wagon to jump on!
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Is this the same Yankees who are 11 games back?
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:37 pm
i will now say good bye and mets suck and go yankees 26 world series 39 AL pennants Mets 2 titles 4 nl titles (2000 world series loss to the yankees)
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:39 pm
What blog am I on? Yankees fans get the hell outta here, you mean nothing to anybody here.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Personally I have found that the only people who care about the Yankees or Mets are people who either live in NY or are transplants. If they are transplants usually the local population wishes they would return from whence they came.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Hey, look. There’s a Phillies vs. Nationals game going on…
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:41 pm
The New Yorkers have been taken care of…
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:42 pm
This inning has the potential to be really ugly.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:42 pm
By top men?
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Thanks Fat Joe, 4+ innings pitched vs the Nats in an absolutely key game. Get the hell off the team.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:46 pm
lots of trolls in the mix tonight
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:48 pm
This was a terrible outing by blanton. meanwhile, madson gets an out at home there AND RYAN HOWARD THROWS IT TO SECOND BASE! what the fuck. this is why hes out of here in the offseason
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Again, the offense has failed to show up. Why is Victorino off tonight? At this point in the season, we should be going with our best chance at winning. Bruntlett does not offer us the best chance to win.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Really, really poor job by Blanton tonight. And bad, bad plays by the defense not getting the lead outs.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:49 pm
No throw home? Knowing Howard a throw to second base is the riskiest place he can possibly throw it.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:49 pm
bad bad bad. this team sucks. you think this teams going to win anything? maybe if the mets collapse again.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Idiocracy at its finest.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:51 pm
It’s official, Joe Blanton sucks.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:51 pm
you cant lose this game. inexcuseable. i want to start seeing marson and golson to find out if theyre any good. if youre going to start bruntlett then stgart golson. no difference. golsons better than bruntlett out there
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:52 pm
it was a good ride, not as good as last year, but good.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Seems like they don’t have their heads in the game.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:53 pm
i think they need a new staff in here. coaching staff. they need a TOP NOTCH pitching coach in here. bring in dave duncan and offer him charlies job. hell have blanton winning 18 games next year somehow. hell have kyle kendrick win 16 games and have a sub 4 ERA. hell have hamels win 20 games and have a sub 3 ERA. hell have myers win 22 games and have a sub 3 era
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:53 pm
If we lose this game, which shouldn’t be a possibility but of course it is, it’s gonna be scary as hell going into Shea this weekend.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Can’t these guys get a little more up for these games, I mean really, 4 hits against the Nats?
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:54 pm
We all had our hopes up and held out for as long as we could. We thought, nah, he has to be better than his 5+ ERA… Not making it through 5 against the Nats in September is, I agree, “inexcuseable.”
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:54 pm
If only Howard would have gone for the double play, concede the run, we would have gotten out of the inning tied…but than again this is a minor league team we are playing.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:56 pm
dude, THROW THE BALL TO HOME! you get an AUTOMATIC OUT. get better body position and get the throw in. run saved, out. simple fundamental baseball and HE THROWS TO SECOND BASE!!!!!!!!!!!!! just, youre cut, get off the team, right now.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Well we’re not too far awayfrom losing a series to that so-called minor league team, in September.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:57 pm
geoff, that won’t happen unless cashman or someone of the like takes over and completely guts out this front office all the way down to the single A. but you knew that already.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:57 pm
wait, dont get off the team yet, do that first. make up for it with a 2-run HR
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Howard is brain-dead in the field.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Since we beat the Mets 8-7, our runs scored:
3
4
2
5
5
4
4
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:57 pm
i’ve been off this team since game 1
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:58 pm
yes i did mike. at this point, id take cashman ANY DAY over what we have. GUT everything, everybody and rebuild the roster and the system compltely.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Geoff, that’s why I know I would never be able to manage a team. I wouldn’t even let Howard finish the game, I’d put in a defensive replacement and rip him to shreds in the dugout. And as I was typing this Howard reassures me why I could again, never manage a baseball team.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:58 pm
i think its time for the dh in the nl
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Like i said, Howard’s great.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:59 pm
that’ll win ryan an arbitration case
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:59 pm
the yankees are going to get rid of cashman, they already said as much. we have to swoop in there and bring him in. if they hire ruben amaro, i dont know what ill do. i cant take that.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:00 pm
yeah he hit that home run AS i was calliung for his release
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:00 pm
HAHA
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:00 pm
Ryan Howard sure can hit monster home runs off of worthless middle relief Nats pitchers.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:01 pm
at the beginning of the season we all said they didnt do nearly enough to win a championship. but i still thought theyd make the playoffs at least.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Phillies get lucky again!
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:02 pm
I know its beating a dead horse, but I do hope we get to see some Golson and Marson tonight. I want to see what they can do.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Cashman is totally known for growing talent.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:03 pm
W.T.F. is with this first pitch swinging with a new pitcher???
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:03 pm
“Constantly amazed at how players swing at the first pitch of a pitcher they have not seen in the game yet” – Nats announcer
Meet my friends Pedro and Chris!
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Lets see what the bullpen does!
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:04 pm
If there were a DVOA statistic for plate discipline, the Phillies would be -85.6% this year, setting records
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:05 pm
And meet my friend Shane! I wonder if Charlie was like: “Guys, if you take any pitches at all, you walk to NY”
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Madson is an animal.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:16 pm
That’s where Madson is great.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:18 pm
i do want to see marson and golson. im tired of seeing carlos ruiz and chris coste and bruntlett and jenkins and taguchi. please use those two kids. please. charlie.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:18 pm
just got on. ryan howard on a tear
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Well, they used Cervinak and he stroked a base hit.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:26 pm
trade
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:28 pm
trade?
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Geoff, Dude… you’ve been typing all day. Get a girlfriend. Wow.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:36 pm
i have one, she likes baseball too
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Geoff trade Howard?!?!?! HAHAHAHA you guys would be losing this game right now if it wasn’t for him.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:38 pm
since the mets spend money, you wouldnt even understand the dimensions behind why they need to do it.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:39 pm
Jesus christ.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:39 pm
up, there goes the lead AGAIN!!!!!!!! great bullpen guys. theyre fried. why? because the starters consistently go 6 or fewer innings too often
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:39 pm
You will not get as much as you think. He carries this team for stretches at a time.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:40 pm
zim zim zim zim zim zim zim zim zim a zim zim zim a zim zim zim
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Since the Nationals seem to have a thing for trading players to teams in the division, can we pick up Zimmerman somehow? Just throw prospects at them or something?
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:40 pm
oh yes you will. aply the desperate teams rule to him and youll get a bidding war.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:41 pm
give them greg golson for all i care.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:42 pm
I really dont’ get why you think that. You’ll maybe get a good no. 2 pitcher and a few decent prospects. Do you really think that is worth giving away Howard?
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:42 pm
charlie and this musical pitchers shit!!!!!!!!!!!
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Forget it. It’s over. Fire Manuel. Trade Howard and Rollins. Let Burrell go and start over. Let’s move onto to watch the Eagles suck. Fire Andy Reid. Boooo.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:43 pm
the phillies will not pay him his money, therefore get good stuff in return for him. if you do it in the offseason his vaue is still high because of his team control issue.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:44 pm
keep pat
trade howard and rollins
sell the phillies to comcast
hire dave duncan as the new manager
rebuild and win titles
fire andy reid
sell the eagles
fire joe banner
hire bill cowher
run the football
win titles
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Charlie has lost the team, his stupidity is the difference between being 2 games down and 2 up.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:45 pm
When is he signed until and when is he eligible for arb?
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Charlie Manuel should have learned his “lefty/righty situation” lesson after that game last year in Colorado where he pulled Romero who was doing fine to left Alfonseca face a righty. That happened in the 9th inning, but both situations look very similar. At least you’d think Manuel could learn from his mistakes…
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:48 pm
if this team had a halfway decent coaching staff(excluding davey lopes)
they’d be battleing with the cubs for homefield
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Charlie thinks too much.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:49 pm
I think some of you guys are crazy. Do you really think the Phillies have the talent to win 100 games? They are a 88-93 win team with the talent they have.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:50 pm
When are the players held accountable for their performance or lack thereof?
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:51 pm
you put this coaching staff in shea and the mets would finish with 71 wins
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:51 pm
is rivelz a met fan
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Well, Golson can really move.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:53 pm
thank you….golson comes in and steals a base right away
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:53 pm
It’s not the coaches – it’s the players.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:55 pm
rivelz are u a met fan
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Yes, Rivlez is a mets fan.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:56 pm
They all suck. I am tired of being a Philly fan. All our teams are garbage.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:56 pm
NEPA is correct.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:56 pm
then why is he acting so nice lol
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:58 pm
heh
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Was my comment deleted or something? I didn’t show up.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:03 pm
something is up with this website right now. no comments are going through
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Anyway, I am a huge Met fan but more importantly a fan of baseball and don’t talk shit. I call it how I see it.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Maybe Durbin’s last pitch hit the web server…
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Yea, so do I. And I call a Phillies loss right here and probably the series we’ll look back on and know we should have won.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Game over. You can’t give up the lead 3 times in one game to the Nats. This series vs. the Mets just lost a lot of appeal now that AT BEST we can pull into a tie.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Comments are going through fine unless they get moderated. If they are moderated you should ask yourself why.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:07 pm
3
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:07 pm
This is like 2007 but in the reverse. Now it’s the phillies getting beat down the stretch by the shitty teams. This is insanity.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:08 pm
This would be the worst loss of the year… a no-brainer. How can this be happening?
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:09 pm
Brian I didn’t write anything bad. I never do. I’m not sure why my comments weren’t getting posted.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:09 pm
So, Brian, mine was deleted because I dropped the F-bomb?
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:09 pm
phillies = mets o7
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:10 pm
LOL “Matt Stairs is the 4th outfielder for the Phillies tonight.”
What is this, the seventh game of the world series? Charlie Manual, the master of the over-manage.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:12 pm
There goes Charlie again not knowing how to use his pitchers.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:13 pm
PHillies 09…
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:13 pm
What I don’t understand is why the early hook on Blanton?
Did they just want to fry the bullpen right before the Mets series?
Was he pitching that badly?
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:13 pm
If this goes extra innings who’s left on the bench?
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:13 pm
jc romero sucks this year.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Clay condrey in the bullpen that’s like so taguchi pitch hitting for ryan howard
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:14 pm
Do I hear the fat lady singing?
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Theres a 80% chance so and ryan would have the same outcome.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:15 pm
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. the phillies deserve this. they look like shit. 9 RUNS BY THE NATIONALS!
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:16 pm
JC romero should be on a short leash from here on out.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Well done pen.
I am glad football season starts the weekend.
It’s not like this team is good enough to do anything in the playoffs anyways…
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:17 pm
JC might be the most overrated pen pitcher we have. he absolutely blows. I mean he has one good outing followed by 4 horrendous outings then he has one more good outing. Its official we have no chance to go anywhere if we keep playing like this.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:17 pm
ANOTHER PITCHING CHANGE???? JUST LEAVE ROMERO IN!
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:18 pm
It could be worse… they could be losing to the team with the worst record in the Major Leagues…
Oh… wait… never mind.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:18 pm
I’ve been saying it all along. We’re a .500 team since the beginning of June. In fact, we’re actually a couple games under .500 since we were 13 over in June, after this game.
Go Eagles.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Now Clay Condreys coming in…The 08 Phils are officially done we can stick a fork in em.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:18 pm
season’s over. oh well.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:19 pm
can i laugh philly fans …a lil atleast?
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:20 pm
I have a feeling my total focus will be on football by Sunday night at around 11PM EST.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:20 pm
got playoffs?
we do!
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:20 pm
What a disgusting loss to the Nationals. 3 games back going into Shea I don’t think is a good thing.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:21 pm
flyers start soon…..
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Can’t score any runs without homeruns will kill a team.. imagine this line up with Guzman batting second or third..
Agreed. The Mets are a superior team who ran into profoundly unlikely bullpen mistakes… Like 20 blown saves? And we have, like, 2?
We could easily be back 10 games right now if the Mets weren’t unlucky this year from the 8th inning on.
The seasons not over, but we’re clearly overmatched.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:21 pm
at this point, i almost think they should just call up a bunch of minor leaguers and let them finish out the season… let’s get a preview of what the young guys can possibly do next year
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:21 pm
E!
A!
G!
L!
E!
S!
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:22 pm
the mets arent really that good either. theyll choke away their lead again but i dont think the philies would know what to do with that
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Rip Phillies 08…
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Just think if the Mets were playing how they have been since Willie has been gone. This would be 06′ all over again.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Adam Eaton is getting up!
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:22 pm
hey
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:23 pm
We’ll prolly be 6 games out after were done it Shea and the Mets aren’t having another histortic collapse…This organization better plan on doing some major changes after this seasons over by starting with the coaching staff.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Geoff do you think the Mets are a better team?
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:23 pm
they need to clean house in teh front office with brian cashman
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Geoff is living in the past… I guess if that’s the only hope you have, then more power to ya. Just don’t break anything when reality strikes.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:24 pm
no not really that much better. theyre fairly even with their own maddening faults.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:25 pm
Phil Thadelphia….I wouldn’t get overconfident if I were you. There’s still plenty of baseball left, including 3 games that can change the entire tone.
Wait until you actually clinch this time before you proclaim yourself NL East Champions.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:26 pm
the mets still have a bunch of old overpaid trash like the phillies do. if i were the mets id blow that team up too. keep maine wright reyes pelfrey santana and some of the youngins and get rid of everyone else.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:26 pm
All teams have shitty losses. What are you going to do? You can’t dwell over one game. I love how everyone is giving up on the season and it’s only Sept. 3. There is a lot of baseball left.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Oh shit here they come
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Who exactly is the leader on this team? It seems like we have a bunch of wet noodles for personality. Does anyone ever get upset with these mistakes and loses? When the Phils won in ‘80, Pete Rose was clearly the leader. Sadly we have no Rose type players on this team.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:27 pm
at least they’re not rolling over and dying
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:27 pm
its not over yet. im not counting on the mets collapsing. but its CLEAR that the phillies management were counting on it all season by their lack of urgency
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:27 pm
The Mets after this year need to address a few things but I think they are in MUCH better shape than the Phillies are.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:28 pm
See the Phillies are fighting back. Maybe they can pull this out. They are playing the worst team in all of baseball.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:29 pm
I haven’t proclaimed anything… except that its pretty silly to assume a once-in-a-lifetime collapse is going to happen two years in a row… or to be waiting for that to happen considering how the Mets have played since just before the All Star break.
Its almost sad to see people who were so confident in their teams capabilities at the beginning of the year start throwing in the towel (at worst) or hoping for someone to hand them the division with another collapse (at best).
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:29 pm
they are in good shape. i think the phillies should keep a handful and rebuild….
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:30 pm
rivelz needs to get a little gayer
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:30 pm
I think the Mets a few more pieces to deal with. 1. Pedro 2. Alou 3. Delgado (they should resign him) 4. 2nd base – We don’t have a consistent out there.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:31 pm
trios? wha?
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:31 pm
The Phils aren’t in good shape because were stuck with bums like Blanton,Eaton,Jenkins, etc…Dame Gillick and his B-list players…Until we spend money like the Mets,we’ll never be a real team.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:32 pm
i said this team didnt do enough in the offseason. i got yelled at for it on here. but isnt that obvious by now? i sitll thought theyd make the playoffs though…
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:32 pm
Werth was hacking… you think he just wanted to go home?
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:32 pm
The Phillies definitely have the money to spend but they are cheap as shit. If you don’t spend some money, you can’t go real far. I’m not saying go crazy like the Yankees but add some more payroll with big name pitchers and hitters.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:33 pm
put it in the books! as howie would say
the ball game is over! as gary would say
we are real good and can def. win a series against the worst team and might not be 3 games out! as phils fans would say
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:33 pm
the mets have to unloiad pedro, sorry they just do. same with alou. beltran would be a good trade chip to net you some young bullpen arms and some outfielders. maybe a young second baseman.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Geoff did you really think they would? Even if I wasn’t a Mets fan I would still believe the Mets to win the division but I did believe the wild card had a chance to come out of the east since the NL West is so shitty and Central has not been so good in years past.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Embarrassing performance by the pitching tonight. However I blame Manuel for taking Eyre out when he did just as much as the poor pitching.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:35 pm
trios you are a Mets fan?
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Yea, no more f-bombs.
There’s a new sheriff in town and he’s not gonna put up with any more of this Mets crap.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:35 pm
does anyone else thiink this palin woman is going to get swapped oit in like two weeks?
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:36 pm
yes rivelz, that just so happens to be true
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:36 pm
ill say this. i expected this phillies team to make the playoffs.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:36 pm
They might still make the playoffs. First… the division isn’t sealed… there’s no x next to anyone’s team in the standings. But… let’s assume they don’t win the division. I know a lot of people have been saying that there’s no way the Wild Card is coming from the East… but look at the Wild Card standings. Even with the dreadful series in Washington, the Phillies picked up a game on Milwaukee. Milwaukee has some pretty big chinks in their armor… as the recent sweep by the Mets demonstrates.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:37 pm
J-Ro thinks there’s no need to worry.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:37 pm
I think Palin is a milf and I would hit it. Trios you’re a moron.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:37 pm
Mets.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:37 pm
20…..its a magic numberrrrrrr
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Geoff, I think McCain must have the same scouts as the Phillies.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:38 pm
shes definitely a milf. too much of a transparent karl rove scheme though.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:38 pm
rivelz i agree on the palin statement ha
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:38 pm
The Brewers are not as good as people think they are. I saw something that they are terrible against division leaders and they have a terrible record against teams that are over .500. The Mets just showed how good they really are this series.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:39 pm
wupp
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:39 pm
exactly georgie, exactly.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:40 pm
theres no substance to this speech at all.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:40 pm
So it’s a possibility that it might not come out the Central as many think.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Geoff maybe cause they are Republicans?
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:40 pm
hello fellerz
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:40 pm
i cant wait until the brewers come here. big series.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:42 pm
I think it’ll be real interesting to see how the Phillies/Brewers series turns out.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:42 pm
thats no longer enough. i expect people to see through party lines and through loads of BS. thats a MINIMAL requirement. its not too much to ask is it?
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:43 pm
i still cant believe the phillies lost a SERIES to the nationals
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Shit happens what are you going to do Geoff?
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:51 pm
For all the Werth lovers and Howard bashers, Werth strikes out almost at as high a rate- 1:3.5 to Howard’s 1:3.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Does this gal say anything except one-liners?
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:53 pm
The Phillies are turning out to be a big disappointment, but not nearly as lame as the red party getting another 4 years in the oval office, if that happens I really don’t know what to do.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:56 pm
This sounds more like the WWE than the RNC. I guess Vince or Triple H is the next speaker.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:57 pm
If I didn’t have CNN on, I’d swear this was a Sat Night Live skit!
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:01 pm
I’m with ya, Georgie.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:02 pm
She doesn’t do well reading the teleprompter. Seems to lose her place.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:03 pm
I swear if McCain wins I’m moving back overseas.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Yes, Palin is a great MILF but would make a horrible Veep. Mark my words!
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:06 pm
How is she going to be VP and take care of her baby? Seems selfish on her part.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:07 pm
yeah this woman is all orchestrated joseph geobbels bullshit. finally after years people were waking up to the criminal activity of the administration and all these yuppies come crawling right back in there as soon as they trot out a pretty face. they fall for it and bury their heads back in the sand. thus is the flaw in our system.
i hope this is exposed as a fraud like it really is.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:07 pm
mccain is meant to lose. hes the weakest GOP candidate EVER…
nobodys going to vote for him, even with this satanic woman up there.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:09 pm
She’s got an Amy Winehouse beehive going on.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:09 pm
She’s got a lot of skeletons in her closet. Let’s see if she makes it till November.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:10 pm
its embarrassing to look at the idiots in the crowd in these things, the democratic one too. complete retards. have no idea what continent theyre on.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:11 pm
If they have to can her it should put the nail in the Republican’s coffin, wouldn’t you think?
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:11 pm
she wont make it past the end of thismonth. 2-3 weeks tops. they want to swap in a complete fascist at the last minute. like a general or something like that.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:12 pm
I’ve got FOX on and these knuckleheads are slobbering all over themselves. These are the same clowns that got us into Iraq. Good luck come November – they’re going to need it.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:12 pm
also, there STILL doesnt look like theres more than 8,000 people there. the ron paul event sold out a 15,000 seat arena. and a mainstream national party cant sell out their OWN staged convention?
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:13 pm
It IS a Sat Night Live skit, I knew it!
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:13 pm
yeha fox is like watching soviet state TV. total brainwashing.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:14 pm
FOX is the biggest POS channel on earth.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Oh God, this is nauseating.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:15 pm
all those people are hypocrytes and its so obvious, yet people dont get it. 95 percent of the stuff they said tonight was a complete lie, same with the other party.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:16 pm
OH MY GOD, they trotted karl rove out there. karl rove is UNDER INDICTMENT FOR CRiMINAL CHARGES in FEDERAL COURT and he is still running his mouth out there.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:16 pm
What planet do these FOX guys live on? These guys/gals are nothing but stooges for the Repubs. Chris Wallace… “A star was born tonight.” Gag reflex.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:18 pm
fred, guess whats the bes tpart about it?
ruper mudroch owns fox news. guess who he endorsed? barrack obama and before that he endorsed hillary clinton, HAHAHA. its a big joke on the rush limbaugh dittoheads to keep them appeased and tell them that its all the liebral democrats fault.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Oh, no. Karl Rove. This guy should be in the slammer.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Fred, CNN said the same thing. So did ABC.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:19 pm
The Fox news(haha) people live on the same planet as alot of the people in my area, as long as you wave the Christian flag you’re A-OK.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:20 pm
yeah they definitely did. im pretty sure the media is operated by the pentagon or something, who knows. everyother counties media is operated by their government, why not ours? just because its america?
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:20 pm
http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?rn=3906861&cl=9574838&ch=4226716&src=news LOL this is too funny.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:21 pm
Karl Rove is an absolute criminal.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:21 pm
I hear ya, brother. Doesn’t it make you want to puke?!
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:22 pm
yeah it does. theyre all up there worshipping this woman like shes some kind of demigod. she was the mayor of a town the same size as mine and ran it into tens of millions of dollars of debt and used criminal tactics to do it.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Politics make me sick but seriously the Republicans go over board and so the most silliest things ever. Am I the only one who thinks Republicans can’t give a speech if their life depended on it.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:23 pm
I lived overseas for years and almost everyone I knew loved Americans but disliked American politics.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:24 pm
That wasn’t a speech. It was a collection of one liners.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:25 pm
The Mets don’t have to unload anything but Castillo… all the rest is coming off the books no matter what…
El Duque
Pedro
Alou
Delgado
Perez
Keep 1 or 2 and still have 30 mil to work with.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:25 pm
i think thats because the republicans know their base followers will belive anything they are told and llove it. so they just say whatever.
joseph goebbels, chief of nazi propaganda during the third reich, said that the bigger the lie the more people will believe it. i feel that this applies to the republican base. well, whats left of it because believe me, its mostly gone and will never return.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:26 pm
As a woman I guess I should be happy for her, but she is a hypocrite-she wants us to support her pregnant daughter but as governor Palin cut programs for unwed mothers.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:26 pm
good night 2008, we’ll see ya in spring training.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:27 pm
yeah thats the one annoying lie: that people hate america or that our “enemies” hate america “because of our freedom”. thats compelte garbage.
you travel at all youll know that NOBODY hates the american people. they just dont like our government/politics…
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:28 pm
Let’s hope so. 8 billion dollars a month to Iraq. No bid contracts to Halliburton. Wiretaps. Trillion dollar deficit. Enough already.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:31 pm
I traveled/lived far and wide and always got special treatment because I was an American. People just don’t like how our government tries to impose our will without regard for what they want.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:32 pm
theyve SHREDDED the bill of rights. they can basically declare martial law at will and we cant do much about it. theyre waiting for something to break out the new homeland security military police control grid, but i hope they never get that chance.
yeah its enough for sure. i dont believe in the two party system at all. it makes people want the other party, who are probably all criminals too. we need like 7 or 8 MAJOR parties to have REAL choices.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:35 pm
Yea but it’s all about cash. Look at these clowns at the convention. Don’t they have jobs? Most of them were foaming at the mouth. Weirdos!
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:36 pm
Guys, i’m looking forward to a great series this weekend. I have this to look forward to since college just began again this week =/ … btw i completely agree Fred that shouldn’t be considered a speech. I was waiting for an ECW chant to breakout with those uncivilized republicans!
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:39 pm
yeah they are. they definitely dont know where the sun goes when it passes the horizon.
it is about cash. which brings up a whole list of other problems (federal reserve, deficit spending/keynesian economics, the idea of an income tax at all – completely illegal, spending money that DOESNT EXIST on wars and inflation a currency thats already in shambles). yeah there are tons of economic problems, not to mention outsourcing and unemployment.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:39 pm
Who’s going to take care of her special needs baby while she’s handing out no bid contracts?
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:41 pm
those people you see in the convention in the crowd at these things are basically the dumbest 1 percent of americans.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:41 pm
Maybe that’s why the Phillies are so frustrating – because reality jumps up and slaps us in the face.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:42 pm
Geoff- GO TO BED! Honestly, do you do anything but write on Phillies Nation? Give it up.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:42 pm
I would have let Happ have a start against the Nationals this past Monday afternoon and then let him have a turn against the Mets this coming Saturday. Give Moyer a few extra days off and let him start the series after the Mets.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:44 pm
I’m signing off for a few hours of nightmares. Just not sure which nightmare it’ll be – Palin as VP or the Phillies bullpen.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:45 pm
yeah i cant deal with this anymore, im going to sleep.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:45 pm
Geoff- many of those “dumb” people fought to defend your right to blog 24-7. Don’t start with the dumb talk- look in the mirror first.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:50 pm
Hey Republican – I fought to defend Geoff’s (and your) right to state his opinion. Let him speak, if you don’t like it – ignore it.
September 4th, 2008 at 12:01 am
Republican=Mets fan
September 4th, 2008 at 12:07 am
OK, nice to see the political debate going on….Just a quick thing to say about the Phillies and the game of baseball. They can turn and will this around and make this a race if they actually play ball like they have a pair, and light the fire under their asses soon. Stop making stupid mistakes, and play NL situational baseball. That means the striking out 200 a season can not be afforded. There’s just under a month of ball left!! Hold onto your towels without throwing them in, and use them to root this team on!!
September 4th, 2008 at 12:12 am
Thanks. I’m not as upset about the Phillies losing anymore if this is an example of their fan base. Good luck with the liberals in charge. Maybe Fred and Geoff can then get married.
September 4th, 2008 at 12:53 am
I’m getting so frustrated with this bullpen. Whatever it takes, the Phils have GOT to sign CC in the offseason. He has proven since coming to the NL that he can go a solid 9. It’s the only way to make sure the bullpen doesn’t blow it in the 8th (again!) Myers is finally back on track, and things were starting to look good, but all of a sudden, these guys in the pen just forget how to pitch. To make matters worse, I think the Mets forget how to lose. It comes down to this….the Phils need to sign a top of the rotation starter and a SOLID set-up guy this winter. That’s it. I’ll take a weak outfield and Feliz at 3rd if Amaro can swing some pitching.
September 4th, 2008 at 1:07 am
The Phils will never give a player the kind of money Sabathia is looking for…Maybe they can make a run at A.J. Burnett or Ben Sheets, but their too cheap to even sign those guys.
September 4th, 2008 at 1:45 am
you sillies fans crack me up you guys are the biggest bandwagoners than any other state in professional sports…after your bullpen blew the game tonight many of you idiots were mumbling about how phillies suck they wont do anything in the playoffs…well u guys are right about two things…first the phillies blow better than ur fugly gf and wives and two the phiillies wont do anything in the playoffs cuz they wont make it. If you guys think the phillies have a shot to come into shea and take 2 out of 3 u guys have no awareness whatsoever. 2 outta 3 in new york? fuggetitboutit!!!!!!! dont get mad that philly isnt like nyc. u guys are the little brothers of nyc the posers of nyc and a downright slum compared to nyc!!! the nicest building in the city is the peco building? hahaha philly is a straight up joke
September 4th, 2008 at 3:14 am
I’ll be the 3rd commenter; Where was Victorino? Why; “Shame on Shane”? What’s with Charlie??
September 4th, 2008 at 3:54 am
im tired of all the sillies fans having to revert back to the 07 season to make their point. sillies fans need to realize that last year is last year so move on…this is 08 and the mets are in first place 3 games up…fact. if you are seriously relying on a mets choke this season you must be delusional. I guess its the only way the sillies can make the playoffs. Through the backdoor..they will never be able to take it from another team straight up. Thanks for making up another point about your team ya tards.
September 4th, 2008 at 5:57 am
[...] for this move in any of the post-game recaps. The only hint that something is wrong is Phillies Nation’s little caption; Shame On Shane: Shane Victorino is on the bench tonight. Eric Bruntlett is in right [...]
September 4th, 2008 at 6:45 am
For any Phillie fan who thinks it’s over, and for any cocky Met fan who thinks their lead is safe, here’s a reality check: the difference between 1st and 2nd place in the NL East right now is only 3 games. That means if the Phils sweep in NY everything is even again. All that was gained in Milwaukee was lost; and all that was lost in Washington disappears. Don’t tell me it’s impossible to see the Phils sweep either because stranger things have certainly happened. It’s improbable, but not impossible. So before you go writing this season off, whether you’re a fan of either team, you need to seriously calm down and realize that 3 games is not that much. There is absolutely no reason to be trash talking quite yet.
Now, if the Mets win 2 out of 3 or sweep, I’d say then it’s time to stick a fork in the Phils. But if Philly wins the series, this is still very much anybody’s race.

Should be a fun weekend. Shea is going to be rockin’ hard!
September 4th, 2008 at 8:09 am
the truth hurts: even if the phillies win 2 out of 3 they only gain 1 game and are still 2 out. I would be extremely suprised if the phillies swept. The only series I am worried about is the 4 game set vs. Cubs. Last time the Mets played the Cubs was in late April and they got their asses handed to them, but then again the Mets were a completely different team. We shall see what happens. I think this series this weekend is not nearly as important as the Cubs one.
September 4th, 2008 at 8:22 am
Rivlez: the most important series is any series that is next on the schedule. Look ahead all you want to the Cubs, but if the Mets lose every game from now until then that series means nothing. From the Phillies perspective, this series means everything, and it would be wise for the Mets to think the same way. I don’t know how you can say the Phils would “only” gain 1 game in the standings if they win the series. First of all, a 2 game deficit is better than a 3 game deficit, and 2 games can be made up very quickly. The Mets play the Nats after the Phils, and if you think the Nats are going to just roll over for the Mets you are sadly mistaken. Secondly, if the Phils win the series, that is a huge boost to their confidence. It may be enough to get them back on track for the final 3 weeks of the season. And that’s third – there are 3 WEEKS LEFT! It’s not like the Mets have a 3 game lead with a week to play. This is still a very close race, and to pronounce the Mets as a playoff shoo-in right now is ridiculous.
September 4th, 2008 at 8:37 am
That is my point completely, there are ONLY 3 WEEKS LEFT!!! The Phillies will not sweep, I know that and you know that. The Cubs series will be most likely the deciding factor for the Mets. No one said the Mets were a shoo-in. Maybe you need to read what I wrote again. My point again if you can understand it this time. There is 3 1/2 weeks left and even if the Mets lose 2 out of 3 they are still 2 up and should be able to stay close till the Cubs series. That series can really take them out of it. You seriously are delusional and need to read a little better. Dumb ass. The way you are talking is that the Phillies are a shoo-in.
September 4th, 2008 at 8:58 am
So am I to understand, Rivlez, that you believe a 3 game lead with 3 weeks left is totally insurmountable? And I’m the dumbass?
September 4th, 2008 at 9:15 am
Phillies and Democrats? The only thing worse would be being a democractic Philly fan from New Jersey. I like how Geoff and his fellow friends trash republicans and the Mets. It must suck always being in second place. Here is for 4 years of McCain and the Mets taking the east. Keep sucking it up Phillies and Democrats. Maybe one of these years you will come up with a plan and succeed.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:24 am
Here’s to McCain dying in office and some dumb governor of Alaska being our next president. I can’t believe that people are rallying behind her. Are they serious?
September 4th, 2008 at 9:34 am
Hey Kevin, you must be one of McCain’s lucky millionaires who will have his taxes lowered so us middle class schleps can have ours raised.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:34 am
Very classy statement, Phil. “Dying in office.” Are you really so blinded by hatred that you wish death upon somebody? Even if only in jest, you should be ashamed of typing such a comment.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:34 am
It’s not very auspicious of any anyone to post their political affiliations online. It’s not convenient when applying for a job or other personal reasons. Let’s push politics aside and talk BASEBALL. A three game is lead is a very thin. Do you remember the last Phils/Mets series at Shea? Do you remember how the bullpen imploded? Losing this lead is as real as an aching knee after you’ve tripped and fallen on it. Please, keep in mind that it is only September 4th. That’s right. I said, “only!”
Let’s look at the Mets’ upcoming schedule:
-WSH & ATL @ Shea
-WSH & ATL @ Nats Park & Turner Field
-CHC & FLA @ Shea
Let’s look at the Phillies’ upcoming schedule:
-FLA & MIL @ the Bank
-ATL & FLA @ Turner Field & Dolphin’s Stadium
-ATL & WSH @ the Bank
What do you ladies and gentlemen think?
September 4th, 2008 at 9:37 am
Georgie – you should know the facts. And the facts are that 80% of Americans will have their taxes raised to support Obama’s healthcare system.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:38 am
It really is no surprise to see all these Phillie fans be democrats. You must love supporting losers!
September 4th, 2008 at 9:38 am
Dave, who do you think is going to pay for this war that your buddy got us into under false pretenses?
September 4th, 2008 at 9:48 am
HAHA! Georgie, keep living in your fantasy world. Your buddy, Obama SUPPORTED the war, and then flip-flopped once he saw that opposing it would be advantageous to him in an election. And if you think Obama is going to bring all the troops home the day after Inauguration Day, you’re dreaming.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:51 am
Yes. I am a rich billionaire. I must also be stupid and racist too, right? What else am I? Too simple? Too tied to religion and guns? Anything else Phill and Georgie? Stop whining. I am an American who believes in hard work. Don’t tax my hard earned money to give to people living off the system. There is more to this country than the coasts. As for Phil, your comments are pathetic. Typical Philly fan- poor judgment. Will you boo the next president? Will you get drunk and try to fight him while little kids watch?
September 4th, 2008 at 9:57 am
I guess noone on this board can sense sarcasm. Second of all, most people on welfare aren’t using the system. It’s a misnomer. I live in West Philly in a predominantly black neighborhood, and I see hard working individuals go to work everyday. They have a wife with small children who collects welfare so she can stay home and raise her children. To me, I see nothing wrong with that. A parent should be at home to raise their children.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:02 am
I also am fine with paying more taxes if I get free healthcare. I’m a broke ass college student. If I get sick I have to fight it myself. If I get severely hurt I can’t go to the hospital and try and get the problem solved. There are plenty of American’s in this same situation. My roomate has his masters degree and has a job that doesn’t give healthcare. Seeing someone not able to have benefits that busted their ass is just wrong.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:05 am
Phil, trying to talk sense into these people is a lost cause, I’ve tried with my Evangelical relatives who just told me they see no signs of a recession, because they were in a classy restaurant and it was full, so apparently noone is struggling, we are just a bunch of whiners.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:06 am
How are you being sarcastic when you ant someone to die? That’s just stupid. Also, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with welfare. But liberals who get into office want the hard working folks like me to support the drug addicts, criminals, and lazy bums who aren’t responsible enough to support themselves. And that’s bullshit. If people aren’t bright enough to save money, get a job, and stop having kids when they can’t afford them, then they deserve to live in the gutter and have a shitty life. Just because they suck at life why should the rest of us be penalized?
September 4th, 2008 at 10:11 am
Dont come at me with the military thing, ok. They should be home, safe preparing to defend us here. Instead, they are overseas in the 500 bases that we have in 150 countries (look it up) expanding the empire. thats what this is. i do not support imperialism or the wars that it creates. john mccain has spent his entire life promoting warfare and violence. barrack obama openly has said that he will NOT withdraw troops from iraq AND that he would attack iran in his first term, JUST LIKE JOHN MCCAIN.
you see, niether one of them will stop these wars. i want the troops to be protected and in a better position to do their REAL job (defend america). they cant do that when theyre exposed overseas, out in the open and vulnerable to attack.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:14 am
the truth hurts you are still a moron and can’t read. When did I say that it was insurmountable? I said it is going to be close and if the Mets are even with the Phillies going to the series vs the Cubs that could be the season right there. I’m done talking to you since you are completely retarded and don’t understand what you read.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:14 am
I never said I wanted McCain to die. I never said I wished death upon someone. The point I was trying to make is that IF he died in office(he is in his 70’s and has a history of cancer) then Sarah Palin the governor of Alaska with less than 2 years experience as said governor will be our new president.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:14 am
he doesnt want john mccain to die, ok. research john mccain and youll find he has two different kinds of cancer, one of which is fatal within 10-15 years. he got it 9 years ago.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:15 am
Thank you Geoff.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:15 am
Geoff I have the same mindset as you in politics. Strange.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:17 am
yes it is strange
September 4th, 2008 at 11:15 am
morons think alike. shocker
September 4th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
> the difference between 1st and 2nd place in the NL East
> right now is only 3 games.
The Mets played like they were dead until Willie Randolph was let go (I’m not gonna postulate the relevance of one to the other). The Phillies never put them away. Starting in the series between the Mets and Phillies before the All Star Break, the Mets came on. They caught the Phillies. They’ve been dealing with injuries that might be the only things not making them run away with the division. Meanwhile, as several people here have pointed out, the Phillies have played .500 baseball.
THAT is the difference. The 3 game lead you see the Mets habe now are the result. If the Mets played the first half like they played the second, that 3 game lead would be more like 10 games right now. Its baseball and trending one week to the next is dubious, at best, but when teams demonstrate capabilities for several weeks (or months!), you have to prepare for that to continue.
