Gamenight: Phillies (78-64) At Mets (79-63)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Sun, September 07, 2008 07:19 PM
Headline: Go Phils: Sweep possible with win
The Major Players: Cole Hamels, Pat Burrell, Pedro Feliz, Ryan Howard, Johan Santana, Carlos Delgado, Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran
The Venue: Shea Stadium, Queens, N.Y.
The Number: 1 game behind (Mets)
Jamie Moyer was awesome in a big win over the Mets this afternoon. Now it’s up to the ace. Cole Hamels goes against Johan Santana in the final game of the season between the Phils and Mets. It’s live, it’s national, it’s big. Get on board, fans.
A Whole Lot Of Johan: Johan Santana has pitched 29 innings against the Phillies, more than double any other team this year for Johan. The Phils have scored 10 runs off Santana in those innings.
A Whole Little Cole: Conversely, Cole Hamels has just faced the Mets once. The Mets got four runs off him in just seven innings.
At A Car-Loss: Despite an RBI single this afternoon, Carlos Ruiz has just three RBI since July 23.
Spotlight: This is the Phils’ fourth time on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball in the last six weeks.
The Last One: Unless there’s a playoff rematch, the Phillies and Mets are playing their final game in 2008. Seems like only yesterday …
Righty Tighty: Righties in to face Santana. Pat Burrell is in left field, and Pedro Feliz is at third base. Jayson Werth hits third.
Phillies: Cole Hamels (12-8) 3.01 ERA
Mets: Johan Santana (12-7) 2.71 ERA
Gametime: 8:05 p.m. EST
TV: ESPN
Weather: 73, clear
Lineup: Rollins/Utley/Werth/Howard/Burrell/Victorino/Feliz/Coste/Hamels

Your gamenight beer: Alright. It’s the night game. It’s big time. With the eyes of the world on the Phils and Mets, time to go deep. Here’s Otter Creek Stovepipe Porter, a dark, very fulfilling experience with coffee flavor bursting about. Enjoy some honey-barbecue-glazed ribs with this. It’s time to eat well and enjoy this awesome matchup.
Go Phillies!

I hate the ESPN announcers. Joe Morgan again? Torture.
Go Phils, and pity all of you that counted the phils out. Here come the ‘other’ fans out of the wood work.
September 7th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
AHHHHHHH LETS GO PHILS….. and how bout those E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES today
September 7th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Great win!! Amazing all the Met fans are gone now..
If you want to go bother Met fans go to
http://www.metsrefugees.com
TROLL THEIR SITE!
September 7th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
wow, mets fans are so ugly.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Gotta love how ESPN had to make sure they continued their love affairs of Tom Brady and Brett Favre up until the very last second.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
As long as I don’t miss a pitch I’m fine. The less Morgan and Miller, the better.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Apparently Wagner was shut down after one batter during a simulated game today….
September 7th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
Way to deliver Howard! Great first inning run!
September 7th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
Big knock, big man!
September 7th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
That’s what I like to see from Howard.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
listen to the mets fans, they are absolutely clueless.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Come on, Pat. Gotta tack on more here.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
get to an ace early, it often the only chance you’ll get
September 7th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
would be a good time for Pat to get a clutch hit
September 7th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
You SUCK PAT! Get out of Philly.
Also, dumb job of acting on that 3-2 slider down the pike. What a joke.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
I love Victorino in this spot.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Even though Pat struck out, I do like the hitter’s approach right now. Force him to throw fastballs in the strike zone because his changeup is all over the place.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
That won’t work for long, becasue it’s not like santana is Olvier perez, he’ll come back in inning 2 with his changeup right where he wants.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Brady out for the year. I’m gonna miss rooting against him this year.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Hey were in the lead…Lets go Hamels…And we won the first game today…Eagles looked great…What a day
September 7th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Maybe Cole will become the man tonight and make one run stand up.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
haha so glad bradys done
September 7th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Eagles game was amazing.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Brady’s done? Where’d you hear that?
September 7th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
he was my first round pick in my fantasy draft
September 7th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
this is not good.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
So apparently the only way David Wright get on base now for the Mets is catcher’s interference?
September 7th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
what a crock of shit! The umpires are infalable during the game and accountable for nothing after.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Wow, this turned really bad, really quick.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
I guess Cole will not be the man and make one run stand up!
September 7th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
What a cheap call! Jeeze, he was out at third!
September 7th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Damn, missed call at 3rd. Ump blew it.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Wright was such a pansy too the way he tried to get that interference call. Has he been slumping that much that he is that desperate?
September 7th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
PHILLieS COACHING TEAM EATS WAYYYYYYYY TO MUCH CHEESESTEAKSZ
September 7th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Bad umping followed by just a bad call, think we know which way the winds blowing… Is a long flyball going to be called a homer now if its ‘close’
September 7th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
That wasn’t even a close call at third. Not even close. Ridiculous.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
That umpire didn’t even put himself in the right position to make a correct call. I hate umpires with huge egos (which is pretty much all of them).
September 7th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
really guys really
September 7th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
where was the third base ump? why was the second base ump making that call?
September 7th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
The fix is in
I hate when a blown call has this kinda impact on a game, no matter which way it goes.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
you know what? cole hamels is not a big game pitcher.
when has he shutout or shutdown a good team IN A BIG CRUCIAL GAME? can someone remind me? because ive forgotten apparently.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
2 run homer by Tatis on the way.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
can we get harry to all Phil’s games regardless of what network they are on
September 7th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
bullshit calls lead to throwing bad pitches just to try and somehow get out of the inning.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
NO EXCUSES! an “Ace” has to shut teams down and hes gotten beaten around IN THE FIRST INNING. unacceptable.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
This game is going to be intense. It’s only the first inning.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
that old man shut the mets down today cole, he had a nice win and a nice ouiting, why cant you do it…ace????
September 7th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Geoff not to be rude here but shut up! Saying Cole’s not a big game pitcher is like saying Peyton Manning isn’t going to be a HOFer
September 7th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
He’s not a big game picture! I was hoping he would become one tonight.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
geoff, that sounds like something a frontrunner would say. lots of innings left…lets go phils!
September 7th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Hey, Cole has to get guys out, but he is getting squeezed a little here. (As is Johan.) And some real bad calls did them in.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
He’s not a big game pitcher because he gave up 2 runs on a good hit by Delgado? That after an arguement and blown up call
September 7th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
^ump
September 7th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
geoff’s right. but in this case, the umps extended this inning themselves. not all on cole.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
thats all well and good julie, except the ace just gave up 3 runs in the first inning.
he has to be better than this, squeezed or not.
now..go back out there and get those runs back!
September 7th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Hamel is a big game pitcher. I was at the game last year, the Friday before we won the division. He had 13 strikeouts that night.
He’s the victim of 1 cheap call with the interference and 1 awful call with Wright at third.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Wright was clearly out at third, that was a botched call…but how can you call him a pansy for catcher interference?? If that was the case, then the rule is he gets a base…philly fans need to stop whining and just watch the game.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
It is such a shame when you’ve got a great match-up and the ump’s are the ones deciding the game so far.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Good point Julie Rollins. Way to be.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Calling him a pansy because of how he reacted. Didn’t let the umpire even call it. He started down first and was almost skipping around, whining like “give it to me.”
September 7th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
I think Geoff is alluding to beating the Mets.. not the Nats dude.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
precisely danny. he got outdone by santana early in the season and has conveniently “missed” the mets all season long
September 7th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
David Wright is a great player, quit whining about him.. LOL. Chase Utley would have done the same thing.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
no, he pointed and the ump called it. and that’s exactly how a player reacts to such call, its exactly what utley or burrell would of did if schieder stuck his glove out too soon.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
I like David Wright, but that reaction was just much to me.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
The call was unfortunate, but Hamel’s still could have buckled down and given up no more than an extra run, instead he gave up 2 more, not good. Lots of innings, lots of outs left – lets get at Santana.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
this is a must win game, no umpires, no excuses. no more bullshit, there are like 3 weeks left in the season.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
yeah SJ Mike, the nats don’t count.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Actually Joshua, Wright pointed and said “It hit his glove” or something along those lines. But I don’t blame him one bit, he’s struggling, doing anything he can to win. I’m all for it.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
why not have hamels swing away…..he’s gotta decent bat
September 7th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
My point is that it was a big game situation. It was a deciding game for the end of last season. He stepped up when it was do or die.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
according to miller, rollins didnt predict the phillies to win the division this year? but didn’t he predict the team to win 100 games though?
September 7th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
He made a soft prediction in ST loosely responding to Beltran
September 7th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
OVERRATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 7th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
NEPA, he may be struggling but that has nothing to do with it. you don’t think utley would of said the same thing, the fact is, it happend, and the ump called it.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
I do think Utley would have said something, because Utley does what it takes to win, like Wright did.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Utley never argues, complains, or says anything. He always has a blank expression. So no, I don’t think he would have. He doesn’t even take his base when he’s hit by a pitch until the umpire calls it and awards it.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
is it me or are the mets fans just ugly to look at? no eye candy whatsoever
September 7th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
the umpires have handed the mets momentum for this game. something needs to be done about this when the game is over. the umpires SHOULD NOT have complete control over the game like this. absolutely horrible calls behind the plate today, and now awarding first base to david wright after wright makes his own call, and then the blown call at 3rd.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
oooh, Utley didnt tag the base.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Where the freak are the phillies tonight? Come on Chase….
September 7th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Dear lord Utley, it’s not like your getting Reyes anyways. So a hit to the pitcher and a dumb fielding mistake, now we’ve got trouble.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
is UTLEY HIGH?
September 7th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
MIKE T. Im sure the call with utley off the base was the umps fault also…he was CLEARLY on the base.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
What is going on here? Is this like the twilight zone?
September 7th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
this is horrible.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
Joshua, the umpires clearly botched that call with Wright at third base. That resulted in a run for you guys.
Utley was off the base and made an error. Seriously, if you want to root for the Mets, stay with your fellow Mets fans and go away from here.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
This is getting hard to watch
September 7th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Mental errors and bad breaks…..killers.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Step it up! DP here changes the momentum
September 7th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
and i agreed he was out at third. that ws a horrible call.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
That’ll work too
September 7th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
thank you lord
September 7th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Great job getting out of that Hamels! That’s what big game pitchers do.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
That could have been really bad. Good job bearing down by Cole.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
that was huge to escape that
September 7th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
phew…let’s get these runs back. who’s gonna turn it around? burrell maybe?
September 7th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Haha, Burrell will turn around nothing.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Baseball is a game of karma sometimes. I say Utley gets it started, making up for that brain fart.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
oh no you didn’t…..im not gonna lie it’s on my ipod
September 7th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Then again, maybe not….
September 7th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
werth looked terrible there
September 7th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Amen….ryan howard
September 7th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Jesus…
I’m worried Hamels will have to leave the game in the 5th or something… How many pitches so far?
HOME RUN HOWARD YEA!
September 7th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Howard PWNS Santana.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
40 HR for the big man. still strikes out too much but at least he salvaged his season
September 7th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Here we go! Good work big man.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Good job Howard! Way to get one of them back!
September 7th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Hamels has 50 some pitches so far I think.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Boy does Burrell look lost.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Pat Burrell!
September 7th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Dammit, Pat…making me look bad. I bet Charlie is stress eating in the clubhouse. A whole pizza at least.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
pat looks like ass…..unmotivated
September 7th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
i think we’ll see more of stairs if pat can’t figure himself out
September 7th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
peter gammons wipe off your chin
September 7th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
they wont resign pat if he ends the year like this. or they might becuase itd make him cheaper
September 7th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Oh-oh
September 7th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
or not
September 7th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
theyre are owning hamels’ ass
September 7th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
miller……please SHUT UP
September 7th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Thanks Cole. You can not give up a run after your team scores. You give every bit of momentum right back.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
Hamels is having a sub par start…This sucks
September 7th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
Pat Burrell is the streakiest hitter I have ever seen.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
What is with Hamels tonight? Of all times to throw a stinker.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
This is going to be a very long night….
September 7th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
hamels looks like shit, he sure isn’t stepping it up here tonight
September 7th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Haha Goeff.. “They won’t, of they might..”
September 7th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
we sure don’t need an injury
September 7th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
I wonder if Cole will blame this start on his four-days rest.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
Who would’ve thought… the Mets can’t get a single run in against Moyer or Myers… And they’ve scored 4 already against Hamels.
He is looking frustrated on the mound, man…I hope he gets his composure back
September 7th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
i was hoping not to see happ til tuesday this means we’re looking at kendrick
September 7th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
tim i was thinking the same thing
September 7th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Yea me too, brian. I’d rather see Happ start Tuesday’s game. Hopefully Hamels will sort things out soon
September 7th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Lot of hard hit balls tonight.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
hamels has completely folded in the spotlight. just like he did in the playoffs in game 1 last year.
hey cole, you cant to get that big contract? show up in big games and BE THE MAN here like youre supposed to be.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
He better not blame it on 4 days rest. He should step up and say he pitched God awful.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
they are just teeing off on cole here tonight
September 7th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Time to get Eaton up.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Yo.. take it easy on Cole. He’s having a rough game, that’s it. He can still make it up and pitch a few more scoreless innings
September 7th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
It’s only the 3rd inning. Not the time to throw in the towel yet. That’s something Mets fans do.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
He needs to go 5. But man, he’s getting sheeeeeeeelled.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
The gun is showing his ‘fastball’ is only at 86-88 mph.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
doubtful, he’s thrown like 70 pitches if he comes up with risp they’ll hit for him this inning
September 7th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
yeah BAD outing, cole coming up really small. not good. need legitimate ace next season. for now, lets hope JA happ can stem the tide.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Mets fans and Phillies fans act the same way. End of story.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
I don’t like the lineup tonight. Why not break out the speeders and use the same lineup from the first game.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
no fred, please no eaton. if they give up a few more runs then ill need to see greg golson and lou marson inmt he lineup.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
i like the lineup in the first game actually. they got on base and fed off each other well
September 7th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Not the way to get the pitch count up in that inning.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
7 pitch inning? this lineup has 4 straight outs everytime…
September 7th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Come on Coste – run! I’m getting to the point where i don’t like Coste anymore.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
coste has tanked lately
September 7th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
What’s with Hamels fastball only reaching 88?
September 7th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Hamels is purposely throwing 88 MPH so he can claim arm fatigue as an excuse after the game.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
Good quick inning by Hamels. Gotta start rocking around Santana now.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Seems to me Hamels is too nonchalant – doesn’t have that killer instinct. Maybe that’s just his demeanor.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Still plenty of time – we’re only down 2.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
Rollins just can’t lift the ball out of the infield this series.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
Just make Santana throw pitches so we can get to the bullpen. It’s our only chance. Santana ain’t giving up no more.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Can anybody please work the count?!
September 7th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
ok time to pull him. 5 is the magic number
September 7th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
So Delgado can hit Hamels, I suppose.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Hamels is doing his thing now. Delgado is just too hot right now. I say let him pitch the 6th.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
he threw him the same EXCAT pitch
September 7th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Man it looks like it wasn’t a good idea to give Hamels the start tonight…Delgado is so juiced up it’s not even funny anymore.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
“listen to the mets fans, they are absolutely clueless.”
- Mike T.
Oh my ‘Gado!
September 7th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
I agree J-Man…but who would’ve thought?
September 7th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
It was a good idea to start Hamels. These are the games he must win. Just a poor, poor start.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
yeah delgado has grey facial hair, he has to be juicing
September 7th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
santana is going to be pulled after 7 and were gonna end up winning the game……no worries
September 7th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
It was a good idea to start Hamels. You can’t predict the future.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
I had no idea he was leading the MLB in innings per start! Woah
September 7th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Werth’s at bat here is huge. Gotta get on base.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
The Mets have the ability to break out offensively. They showed signs of it in the 8th inning today of Game 1.
Just the Phils gotta step it up and work Santana the way they did the first inning.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
you have to start hamels, hes supposed to be man here. right on tim, aces win these games, and thats what santana is doing right now to us.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Still he has to perform better than this. He’s suppose to be our ace and the ace wins these type of big games.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Ugh…pull him out now before it gets any worse. No point in slamming Hamels, but this has to stop.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Did you guys see Tom Bradys out for the season?
September 7th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
well, they need more than this from their ace. either hamels has to do it, myers has to do it, or next year they have to get someone else in there to do it.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
by adding to the rotation and bumping everyone else back a slot
September 7th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Phils need to work Santana, just like Werth is doing right now. Santana needs to go
September 7th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Yea, J-Man, that was mentioned way up in this post.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Oh i didn’t see it.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
santana is cruising now
September 7th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
Does anyone else want to kill Jon Miller every time he calls him BelTRAN.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
can miller get off of the met’s nuts?
September 7th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Why are they warming Happ up? Guess he’s not starting on Tuesday.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
7th is our inning…..
September 7th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
NEPA, I was thinking the same thing.
I remember when we had Tomas Perez, he would say Tomas PAY-rez.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
you mean when he says bel-trAUn?
yeah i hate that
September 7th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
im pissed that the saturday game i have vs the brewers is against dave bush. damnit! i wanted to see sabathia or sheets vs hamels
September 7th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Woah boy!
September 7th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
delgado must be getting a roid/hgh IV in the dugout there
September 7th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
Why did they choose that point to show Delgado pounding two HR’s? Seemed like odd timing to me.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
Dyin Hawaiian goes down!
September 7th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
along with tatis
September 7th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Why doesn’t the kid in the bullies commercial fix his wedgie before he looks up karate classes?
No Happ? I’m pleased.
September 7th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
so why did they warm up happ if they are not gonna use him?
September 7th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Decoy
September 7th, 2008 at 10:01 pm
Next they’re going to warm up Eaton as a decoy.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Happ seems to be like Kendrick 2007 version.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
thats how happ is advertised, but we havent seen enough from him to warrant that. its just hype. happ has better stuff than kendrick does.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
maybe theyll try and fake them out with les walrond
September 7th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Desperately need some base runners and some runs now.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
cose needs to work the count and be patient and move the runner over here. also, hamels needs pinch hit for with a patient hitter.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Coste should have taken that 1-1 pitch on the arm. Get on base.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
damnit.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Carlos Ruiz in this situation? Really?
September 7th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
why is ruiz out there? what the hell.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
youve got like 15 guys on the bench right now to choose from in sept and you choose ruiz?
September 7th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
I really don’t think he could have come up with a worse pinch hitter there.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
come on j-hole. send one into the gap
September 7th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
you know what? peter gammons makes me sick
September 7th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Listening to Peter Gammons’ stuttering during his reports are awkward.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
The second HR given to Delgado, given being the operative word, was purely a product of Hamels’ youth and arrogance. There was no reason to throw him anything remotely near the zone in that situation. I firmly believe that was not a location mistake. Hamels’ meant to challenge him. If we get to a post-season situation, this liability in his personal approach will have to be dealt with.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
what it comes down to is hamels isnt ready to be an ace yet, period. hes a number two at this stage of his career. maybe a 1.5 i guess. on a championship team hes not the ace, bottom line. he will be someday if he doesnt blow out his elbow or something.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
he has three pitches and he only uses two of them most of the time
September 7th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
Hamels IS an ace. Give the guy a break, will you?
September 7th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Hamels had a bad game. Sweeping doubleheaders are hard. I agree with Manny. Give Hamels a break.
By the way, why Rudy Seanez here?
September 7th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
hes not there yet, when hes there, youll know. itll be very apparent. or hell break down completely. give him 2 years and youll be able to tell
September 7th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
however, delgado is definitely juicing.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Weren’t the Mets booing Delgado out of New York 2 months ago?
And we’re fickle fans?
September 7th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Great job by Rudy.. he didn’t throw anything close to the strike zone to Delgado.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
they were ready to run delgado out of town. im sick of philly fans and external media being so touchy about this. it happens everywhere, its OK to be like that as a fan. other cities do it and still win championships. deal with it. im tired of being labeled as frontrunners and negative. its so obnoxious.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Great, Santana is still going the 8th. I just don’t feel a comeback coming tonight.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Santana pitching the 8th, that’s how you do it.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Random thought: I really want to know what Joe Blanton eats….
Beer?
I do wonder because it’s just weird for a pitcher to be so out of shape. He is a professional baseball player, you know.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Geoff, that’s pretty much my point. We’re labeled as these obnoxious awful people, yet there is no fanbase without sin. It makes me sick too.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Late in the year, a big September game – your ace comes through in this type of game. That’s if you have an ace.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
right on
September 7th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
C’mon CHASE, get something going
September 7th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
WERTH!!!
Alright…..
September 7th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
nice werth
September 7th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Good hit by Werth, although Bel-TRON helped a bit by lazily playing the ball.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Bye, bye Santana
It’s comeback time
September 7th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
come on big man let’s do something here
September 7th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
I guess, now with the bullpen in, its the phillies chance to hit the mets hard.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Mets starters against us all year has been like 2.50 ERA where bullpen has been like 4.60 something. Time to jump on this bullpen, guys! Gotta get get this back!
September 7th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
Cmon Phillies…at least lets get Werth in
September 7th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
gotta hit for burrell here
September 7th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
go mets!!!
September 7th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
I saw Cole do a sort of valley girl head shake in the dugout earlier, it was funny.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
well, that was a nice outing from feliciano and stokes.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
A new pitcher and you swing at the first pitch. Put Burrell’s fanny on the bench!
September 7th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Geoff doesn’t like us. All he does is watch his 2nd place Phillies lose while blogging.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
burrell worthless
September 7th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
why not use stairs in that spot?
September 7th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
only an al-qaeda terrorist would make a statement like that
September 7th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
So many missed opportunities this year…
September 7th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
Regardless, we won 2 out of 3, which was very important.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Well if you look anything like what’s at the Mets game it’s no wonder no one likes you.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
That’s an ugly-ass bobble head doll.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Yea but a sweep was there for the taking.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Why alot of philly fans there?
September 7th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Nice try by victorino! He is a good player!
September 7th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
thats a product of victorino playing too shallow…i know he’s fast, but thats an example of playing shallow burning you.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
What Geoff? Make a little more sense, please.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
No. We need to win this. 4 runs in an inning. Vs the Mets. Very possible.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
phillies pitcher said bitch lmao
September 7th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
my point is, people that post under a bogus name and take cheaps shots at other posters are the lowest of the low in the blogosphere
September 7th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
And here come the trolls. Notice how nice it was when Myers and Moyer were owning the Mets.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Probably will not happen.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Mets owned the Phillies this year. Just look at the record!
September 7th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
I agree SJ Mike. 2 games back with 19 to go is certainly more manageable than last year. But I think the Phils got to go at least 13-6 the rest of the way to really make it work
September 7th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Season isn’t over yet. There’s still 3 weeks of baseball left and anything can happen.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
Phillies are a good team. No question about that! But the Mets are just a little better. But the Phillies have kept it close all year so you have to give them credit for that!
September 7th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
How is it that NY ends up with 2 days off this week??
September 7th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Ayala will get pounded
September 7th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
13-6 probably is not going to do it. You are then counting on the Mets to go 11-8, and that’s just for a tie. They will then need to go 10-9 for us to win with 13-6. That ain’t happening. I see the mets going at least 13-6 with their schedule. Probably 14-5.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Just don’t go claiming victory in the division until you actually have it. Overconfidence can kill a team, just like last year.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
YEAAA… Let’s go Phillies
September 7th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Well thats a start.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
Hater – you got it so wrong. Mets are team with some luck recently, but no class. Let me tell you what is about to happen – you can write it down and check back here in 3 weeks.
The Mets are going into their locker room tonite, after this one game, and will celebrate…CELEBRATE as if they won something. Not all the players, but the idiots like Reyes, Beltran, Reyes, Easley, Reyes and Delgado. (I said Reyes 3 times on purpose – there is no shallower player in baseball). “Oh we got the monkey off our backs, etc.” They’ll treat it like the won a playoff game. Meanwhile, the Phils will start a new winning streak…5 of 7, while the Mets will start losing…to the Nationals, to the Braves.
We’ll see come the last week of the season, when the Mets have to beat the Cubs and Marlins.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
Dobbs, man. One swing doesn’t tie it. Why are you swinging at the first pitch like that?
September 7th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
Bottom line is Phils needed a big game from Hamels tonight and didn’t get it.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
I was thinking the exact same thing AC.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
AC, don’t forget the Mets fans will do the same thing.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
The Mets will not win another 11 games this season. Count on that. The Marlins, Braves and Nationals will continue to bring it just as hard against them and they’ll surprise.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Alright Stairs
September 7th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Haha, wow. That was a bomb.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Geoff- the lowest of the low are people who SPEND ALL THEIR TIME ON BLOGS. Interact, go outside.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
How old is Stairs?
September 7th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Stairs is 40.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
3 more runs to go.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Damn…that was close!
September 7th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
i do that kevin, there are 24 hours in a day you know. but then again, you probably dont even know what continent you live on.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
oh well…close…
September 7th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
What makes you think it’s not possible for the mets to win another 11 games?
September 7th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
Rollinssss please…at least get on base
September 7th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
Just get on base J-Roll, give Utley a chance.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
Sit down Jimmy.
Aren’t the Mets supposed to choke in this spot?
Isn’t Delgado supposed to be done?
Isn’t Rollins supposed to be outshining Reyes?
Isn’t this the year Hamels was to reach Cy Young form?
Aren’t the Phillies going to win 100 games?
Isn’t Utley poised to make it an MVP three-peat?
Isn’t this going to be Pat Burrell’s career year?
And hey…Mike Schmidt….
aren’t the Phillies supposed to be better than the Mets?
God have Mercy on Philadelphia…a town that now doubts what it was absolutely sure of!
September 7th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
J-roll…..damn it
September 7th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
look at the idiots in shea…they think they just won a playoff game.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
and cole hamels, after producing a fraudulent and disgraceful outing, gets charged with the deserving loss there.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
rollins was 1 for 9 today, should’ve been 0 for 9. rough
September 7th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
Mets lose this game last year… Santana did his job.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
Hey look, the Mets won the World Series…..oh wait, they won one game….
September 7th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
AC in NJ, Mets are team with some luck recently, but no class? You must be crazy. The Phillies like I said are a good team. I agree with that. But the mets lucky? They owned the Phillies this year. They have more talent, better starting rotation and better offense its not luck its a FACT! No class I think you mean when Victorino took out McCann at home or Utley taking out the catcher last week. Is the saying “if you can’t beat them then try to beat them up?” And atleast reyes has more class then Rollins and reyes shows up in time! And he is not even the spokesman like Rollins. And as far as losing to the Nationals and Braves only the Phillies do that. By the way.
PUT IN THE BOOKS!!! METS WIN!!
September 7th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
Rob – you are going to be crying in your beer 3 weeks from now. You know it, don’t pretend.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
AC,
No they weren’t.
You’ll likely be able to see the difference in about 3 1/2 weeks.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Hater and Rob – I hope you come back here in 3 weeks when the Mets go home.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Seriously. They won 1 out of 3 at Shea. Luckily we do have our feet on the ground, and we will fight this till the end.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Manny – you got that right buddy!
September 7th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
regardless, still a good day in philly sports
September 7th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
A 2 game defecit is not hard to overcome. Nobody has won anything yet.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
SJ Mets, correction, they have won 80
September 7th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Good one Geoff. Original and intelligent. Hahaha. Now I feel bad, maybe you are just 12- which would explain why your name appears all over this site at all times of the day. Good try though.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Stop calling the Phillies fans idiots just because they are at shea. They can’t help that. And its bad enough they have a long ride back on thier short Yellow buses. Give them a break!
September 7th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
11 out of 18 for the year. Good Times.
September 7th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
AC,
You got it…
September 7th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Joshua, nothing is won until something is clinched. Until then, don’t act like you’ve already won it all.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
The Mets are 11-7 against the Phillies this year and are 2 games ahead of them in the standings. That is far from “domination”, but it is plain fact that they have out-played us in every which way this year.
This was a series that the Phillies had to come in and sweep.
All of you who are counting on a Mets collapse again – get over it. It is plainly obvious that they are a much different team right now. The Phillies will now have to go 15-4 over the next 19 to win the division, IMO.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Good series guys. Fun day. NY and Philly sports look good now with the Eagles, Giants, Jets, Phillies and Mets (and no Yankees).
September 7th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
It’s a shame Hamels didn’t bring his A game today. A sweep would have been nice.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
Nobody is counting on any collapse. 2 games isn’t running away with it all and losing 2 games isn’t collapsing. It’s whoever fights it out the hardest the next 3 weeks. The Phillies took 2 out of 3, which was important. If the Mets were so dominant over the Phils, they would’ve set us back 6 games with a series sweep.
Nothing has been won yet, so stop acting like you just clinched the division.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
Well , when they eject our coach, the premier managing mind in all of baseball, the original “diamond genius” as I like to call that big lug, how can we be expected to compete.? I mean really…. with all of the brains back in the showers, we never had a prayer….. Anyway, 2 of 3, it’ll work. Mets are losers and they WILL fold. Goodnight. PS – BIG 5 is back…WoooooHoooo!
September 7th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
Mets fans – you gotta believe: YOUR BULLPEN SUCKS, and other than Santana, so does your rotation. PEDRO – done, retire already (I’ll take Moyer any day). PEREZ – please, at some point the old Ollie will show up again – that’s a Schizo pitcher if there ever was one. PELFREY? He’s also thrown more innings than ever before, time for the flower to fade. MAINE – oh yeah, DL. I can’t even remember who their 5th starter is now.
Here’s the other secret (Mets fans know it too). Every other team in the NL East hates THE METS – not even close. Irrespective of the Phils being division champs, THE ENTIRE NL EAST DESPISES THE METS. So i’m pretty confident that the Nationals, Braves and Marlins will play very, very hard against them and I think we’ll see some big wins out of them.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
I didn’t think losing Charlie had any effect on the game. His clone, Jimy Williams, seemed to make all the same moves Charlie would have made.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
kevin, you probably think that either barrack obama or john mccain will save us somehow. that is essentially the equivalent of not knowing what continent you live on….chief.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
We never had a chance in the nightcap. For whatever reason Hamels pitched awful. His fastball was never clocked above 88. Maybe it’s time he goes on his yearly trip to the DL.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
bsck to baseball. at least the phillies won this series. a net gain over the mets and a little bit of momentum perhaps to carry forward.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Fred …sarcasm for catharsis in time of defeat…thats all .. but none-the-less
Go fightin Phils. If we throttle the Brew crew things could change as well …
September 7th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Unfortunately the Mets have off tomorrow, and somehow Thursday as well (which whoever scheduled that has something wrong with them).
But we just have to take care of business now with Florida, who have fallen off slightly (but not to be under-estimated).
September 7th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
gplad Says:
September 7th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
How is it that NY ends up with 2 days off this week??
Last days off of the season.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
BTW, just curious – who did Delgado contact in late June to help resuscitate his career – Clemens or McNamee? McGwire? Sosa?
September 7th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Phils needed to sweep this series – two wins only picked up a game. A season of missed opportunities.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
Hang in there Fred…keep the faith. It’s not just the Phils, the Mets will come back to earth soon…its coming.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
AC in NJ: I’m a Phillies fan, and I must say – I hate fans like you. Not to mention – just about everything you said in your second to last post is false. Give credit where credit is due, and grow up.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
indeed fred. thats the theme of this year. there was so much optimism heading into interleague play and they got crushed and their season derailed there and shortly thereafter. the weak division has let them hang around and itd be nice for them to take advantage of that, theyve been given opportunity after opportunity.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
I think Hamels is really starting to worry about how many innings he’s pitched, he obviously keeps a very close count of his pitches, going by some of his comments recently.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Just can’t hang heads on missed opportunities. Once you get into “could’ve, should’ve, would’ve” territory, that’s admitting defeat.
Nothing has been decided yet. Hamels had a bad game. Just got to move on and take care of business this week against Florida.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Smith – how long you been a fan?
September 7th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
I am not one of the guys who comes here and trolls you guy, thats just stupid dumb asses, but lol at you guys saying the Mets are acting like they won the WS. I remember at the very beginning of the season (like the 2nd or 3rd series), the Mets has won the 1st 2 and were going for the sweep. The Mets were down by 1 in the bottom/top of the 9th w/ Reyes on 2nd and Easley on 1st and Beltran up to bat w/ 2 bats. He hit a rocket grounder up the middle, but Bruntlett playing short, dove and made the play. When Howard caught it, he did the whole arms shaking thing that you see when a WS game ends in a grounder.
Just looked it up, this was the game: http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/news/wrap.jsp?ymd=20080420&content_id=2562236&vkey=wrapup2005&fext=.jsp&team=away&c_id=nym
September 7th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
15 years. What does that matter? I have no desire to talk to people like you.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
Smith – I wasn’t asking you to talk to me, you chimed in with your dumb ass comment of your own volition.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
“Volition” is way too big a word for you to be using AC.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
AC in NJ, I can understand and feel your hurt that your team will not be in the post season and the better team (THE METS) will be. I feel your pain but its ok there is always next year!
September 7th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
you know for all the talk about the mets being classless and such, i dont see jose reyes talking about a sweep after the first game of a series. And i cant picture david wright saying yeah the phillies know we’re better than them. Yes the mets dance and the phillies talk. It goes both ways
That being said we lose this game last year and people making comments that the mets will lose from here on out or even that the mets will win from here on out is just mindless fans trying to top one another. This is coming down to the wire. people on both try to enjoy it
September 7th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Yeah, funny you guys go around calling the Mets classless when you have your MVP saying “They know we are better than them.”
September 7th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Smith – you’re a funny guy and Phils fan, so I say good one and truce, OK?
September 7th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
lol. ok AC. truce.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
Point of fact, “volition” is too big a word for Mets fans to use. LOL. I just read that Wagner had to shut down his simulated start today, so the smile on face has started to come back.

The Mets have an advantage though because they won’t have to use too many spot starters with their 2 days off this week. So their pitching will be in relatively good shape with rest.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
Def. good for Phils fans that Wagner is shut down. Although, they are now something like 22-10 since he went down, so who knows.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
SJ Mike – be cool. Phils will get days off on the 15th and 25th, Mets have no more days off after this week. Starting the 12th, it’s 17 days in a row for them…
Let’s hope for 2-3 from the Mutts in the next 5 games, and if Phils can go 3-2, they’ll be 1 back going into the last 2 Brewers games on the weekend.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
Smith – if the Mets go 15-4 or 14-5 the rest of the way, then they deserve it. I don’t see it happening. Go Phils!

I’m just hoping the Brewers can continue their slump and the Nats continue their mini-hot streak into NY.
But nothing is ever guaranteed in this funky game.

Its always good to dream! AC in NJ

What do you think about keeping Burrell next year? I know it’s hard to replace those type of numbers, but he is too cold at the wrong times, and I think paying him the type of $$ he’d command just is a bad investment.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
Just because the Nationals beat the Phillies does not mean they are on a hot streak. Phillies are just streaky!
September 7th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
Hater – go back to a mets blog.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
Honestly, what to do about Burrell is beyond me. I could see the argument on both sides.
So I really have no clue. I say worry about crossing that bridge when the season is over.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
The thing is – unlike last year, the Mets have actually pounded the shitty teams this year – specifically the Nationals, who they now play 6 times. They didn’t fare well early in the season against the braves, but that was a very, VERY different braves team then, and a couple weeks ago the Mets swept the Braves. I’m very worried since they have 12 games now against the braves and nats. I know they have the cubs after that, but by then I think the cubs will have clinched and pinella will rest people. And with Zambrano and Harden with health issues, there is no way they are going to pitch that series if they dont have to.
We shall see. It will definitely be interesting. The Phils need to show up this week. Big time.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
Hater, before the Phils won the 2nd game of the Nats series, the Nats had won 7 in a row. They’ve now won 3 of 4 since that loss to the Phils. So that’s 10-2 in their last 12 (I did the math for you as a courtesy, as I know most Mets fans are challenged in basic skills like 2nd grade addition/subtraction). I’d submit that qualifies as a hot streak.
GO NATS!!
September 7th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
Nationals swept the Dodgers too. They’ve been hitting very well of late.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
Smith – maybe the key then will be Florida. If the Phils can pound them (5-1 or 6-0), but the Marlins play even with the Mets (3-3) or better, that might be it.
So I agree with you – big week for the Phils, time to show up big.
September 7th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
the nats are running hot but so were the brewers when we ran into them. we’ll see what happens
September 7th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
Go Reds!!!
September 8th, 2008 at 12:48 am
all of you should know…
Us Mets fans LOVE the hate
September 8th, 2008 at 1:08 am
To the REAL Phillies fans who want their team to play better instead of hoping and praying another team plays worse, stop reading now… none of this applies to you. I hate your team as much as you hate mine but for all the right reasons. I’d gladly share a pizza and a beer with you as we watch our teams play meaningful baseball in ANY September.
Now… for the rest of you. You know who you are. You’re the geniuses peering into the future to predict repeat of a once-a-generation collapse that occurred just one year ago… the ones listing all the reasons why it will happen. Is this really all you can hope for? You don’t think your team can actually WIN? You think the Phillies aren’t capable of their own success? What a sad, sad fan you must be. I pity you.

ryan howard uses steroids. same with matt stairs. and brett myers.
September 8th, 2008 at 6:56 am
This game is what the owners should look at and realize the shortcomings of this team. A steady righthanded bat a number one starter. And a one more setup guy.If burrell leaves another bat with some speed too.
September 8th, 2008 at 7:28 am
METS.
September 8th, 2008 at 8:18 am
Last nights game is where Santana earns his contract. Cole Hamels just didn’t have it yesterday and it could’ve been worse for him. This series is kind of a waste for the Phillies to only gain a game. They needed the sweep and their ace just couldn’t pull it off. Still going to be a great September for baseball.
September 8th, 2008 at 8:46 am
The Mets and Phils are pretty evenly matched teams but I’m afraid the advantage goes to the Mets. Why? They have an ace and we don’t.
September 8th, 2008 at 9:00 am
I definitely thought Cole was better than that. I was expecting another Friday game where is was just amazing pitching by both guys. Hamels really didn’t look right out there. Like he didnt’ want to be out there. That is the moment that you wait for a play your best.

howabout lets save the anger for the playoffs and lets take an nl east wildcard. f the brewers right now. its not like were going heads up the rest of this year anyway. i like the thought of a phils v mets nlcs
