Gamenight: Phillies (84-67) At Braves (67-84)
Posted by Tim Malcolm, Wed, September 17, 2008 06:15 PM
Headline: Back in first, Phils try to create separation
The Major Players: JA Happ, JC Romero, Jayson Werth, Chase Utley, Jair Jurrjens, Brian McCann, Casey Kotchman
The Venue: Turner Field, Atlanta, Ga.
The Number: 0.5 games ahead
The Phillies took the first of three with the Braves with a staggering fight back from purgatory. Ryan Howard solidified his MVP case with a legend’s homer in the eighth inning to give the Phils a lead. Now rookie JA Happ will take the hill with his sights set on a big win.
The Happening: JA Happ has never faced the Braves. You want a good stat? How about a 0.00 ERA on the road?
Septembarian: Howard’s eight homers in September are one more than Braves bench player Greg Norton … has all season.
As Ryan Goes …: Howard is hitting .298 in Philles’ wins. And just .184 in losses.
Phillies: JA Happ (0-0) 5.71 ERA
Braves: Jair Jurrjens (13-9) 3.62 ERA
Gametime: 7 p.m. EST
Weather: 67, cloudy
Lineup: Rollins/Utley/Werth/Howard/Burrell/Victorino/Feliz/Ruiz/Happ

Your gamenight beer: A perfect beer for tonight. Snap an Autumnal Fire. A great fall beer, it burns the belly but soothes the soul. Quite like that ‘ol time rock and roll. Not any of that newfangled Killers stuff, or Huey Lewis. Ugh. He’s so modern. Point is, with Happ needing some fire (mainly from his offense), this is the beer of choice. Go with pumpkin bread and smoked steak.
Go Phillies!

Very excited to see how Happ reacts tonight. I was very impressed with him as a starter, hopefully that little stint in the bullpen didn’t screw him.
September 17th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
First!
September 17th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Nope.
September 17th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
HaHa
September 17th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
First ?!?!?!?
We don’t do that here.
September 17th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
Anyhow, Rob, how are we supposed to act?
September 17th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
I just never seen anyone do that on this site. I notice that on a lot of forum posting or comment sites for instance Yahoo and even Perez Hilton (yeah, i check that out). But whatever, ya’ll can do whatever the hell you want for all i care.
September 17th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Haha, Rob I was thinkin that same thing. I hate when people do that first bullshit, especially when it sets a chain reaction and ya got people typing in “144th!”
September 17th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
Burrell agian what is he thinking?
September 17th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Let’s go Phils! Every game is big!
Happ needs to step it up. Howard needs to continue his hot streak.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
That was quick, 1-0 Mets.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
Howard, what an animal.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
2-0 mets
September 17th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Way to go Werth and Utley working Jurj before the big man came up
September 17th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Werth, making things happen as usual.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
New nickanme (for anyone that wasn’t excited already when we signed the guy last year) Jayson Werthehelldidyoucomefrom?
September 17th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
pat the bat coming up small with 2 runners on in the first
September 17th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Chooch.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Doesn’t matter so much when the rest of the line-ups coming up big keeping Jurj out there for a long time in the 1st, almost 40 pitches before he gets to sit will really takes it toll.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
GIDP!!!!
September 17th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
Carlos ruiz with some clutch hitting good 2 see him get in on the action lately
September 17th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
Happ must be feeling pretty wierd right now holding a bat before a ball…
September 17th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
Why wasn’t Happ taking some strikes? He was swinging away at a few obivous high and away balls.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
Don’t think we can really complain to much there NEPA, he’s probably pretty excited to get onto the mound and his plate vision probably wasn’t quite on there.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
Here we goo Happ ..one down two to go
September 17th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
way to start low and work high happ … two outs to go
September 17th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
NJ, I’m not blaming Happ. If I’m Charlie I’m telling him to keep the bat on his shoulder for at least one strike. Jurrjens is walking people left and right. Jimmy is swinging a hot bat, it would have been nice to get him an RBI opportunity there.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
i hate the new firefox … its always screwin up my posts
September 17th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
wooo, not a bad first inning for Happ. i think if it were Kendrick up there, our lead would’ve been cut in half before the end of the 1st
September 17th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
if kendrick were on the mound … the bottom of the first would still be going for another twenty minutes
September 17th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
haha, Myers is the most restless adult I’ve ever seen.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
damn that was close
September 17th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
big K!
September 17th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
is anyone else worried about the marlins inability to loose recently?
September 17th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
If the Phils keep winning the marlins winning is a non issue
September 17th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Marlins have won 6 straight…Mets up 6-1 on a 2 run homer from Beltran.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
I just noticed Pat is clean shaven tonite, totally irrelevant, but he looks good.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
yeah i know … of course i didnt think the rockies were an issue last season until the one game playoff …
September 17th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Burrell is an endless vortex of suck, I feel bad for him watching him be the worst part of such a surging team. We know he can play better, what’s wrong??
September 17th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
No offense meant above NEPA. It’s tough to see Burrell re-signing here unless he’s willing to give a big hometown discount, feel sad since my Jersey’s a Burrell one and it’s tough to imagine him not a Phil.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
He looks like he’s depressed, yeah, I know, who wouldn’t be? But I mean like clinically or something.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Every time I see Pat Burrell up close whether it’s on TV or in person at a game, I feel like he always has the same far-away look. Almost like he’s channeling some other time in his life. How about he channels into the 1st half of the season?
September 17th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
maybe hes on zoloft and its slowing his swing down. At least hes made some contact tonight
September 17th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
Very nice, quick inning there.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
I hear ya Beth.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
I think Burrell is hammered, that’s the impression that I get.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
five walks in 3+ innings … good eye guys
September 17th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
Something about Jimmy reminds me of Iverson.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
NEPA, are you serious? As in drunk?
September 17th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
one of my best friends went to high school with iverson down in virginia … she says that he was a total dork and the day he was drafted he spent his signing bonus or whatever on all those tatoos … got em all that day.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
No, I’m not serious.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
At least the Marlins are beating the Astros.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Was anyone else surprised that Jeter’s record breaking hit last night was scored a hit? House rules, I suppose. C’mon Utley…be more clutch.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
There’s just something endearing about Iverson, to me at least. I know he can be an asshole, like T.O. but different, but I can’t help but like them both, maybe it’s a chick thing.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
The Braves announcers feel the need to update us every time Pujols comes up to bat to let us know if he gets a hit or not. It’s not like Pujols and Chipper are like tied for the batting title, Pujols is full 10 points behind him. We don’t need up to the minute updates.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Phillies!!!!
September 17th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
seven in a row!!
September 17th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Not convinced Happ’s got an A game as some people seem to be but the kids really bringing some game tonight
September 17th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
allright …everyody hits ..woohoo!
September 17th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Brewers are winning 3-0 already, top of 1st.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
happ’s got some great movement on his pitches and has handled chipper and mccann really well, which were the two i was most curious to see him against. at this rate i think he has to get another start.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
TITANIUM sombrero!
September 17th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
Do any of you out of towner Phils fans use a sling box or anything to stream games from a family/friend in Philly? How’s that work out?
September 17th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
I just use MLB radio
September 17th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
14 bux gets me every game for like that last 5 or 6 years soo … cant argue with that.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Mets and Brewers offenses making some noise already in the early going.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
I got MLB extra innings
September 17th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
I have MLB audio but miss seeing the action. Sling box would be nice for the football season too.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
i just love LA and scott franski (or however its spelled). It is kinda depressing though, even though I went to about 20 games this season before I moved … i REALLY miss CBP.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
I watch on csn, which is the only reason I carry cable, just paid Directv bill and cable bill today, 300 bucks for a month, HELP!!!
September 17th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
look at that catch by pat! i told you guys he has a good glove even if he’s slow.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
nice catch!!!
September 17th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
i dont get CSN here in hicktown austin, tx
September 17th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
nationals tack on a run in the fouth
September 17th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
That was sTRIKe 3..booo
September 17th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Its probably just me …but has anyone else notice that Mike Winters just always seems to have it out for the phillies?
September 17th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
What a play by Rollins to rob Martin “the Devil wears” Prado.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Cubs gain a run on the Brew crew with a shot my Ramirez. 3-1 Brewers.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
I hope Vic is fine after that play…
September 17th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Oh no.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Is Vic OK? Where did he get hit?
September 17th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
His hand, bunting.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
that’s very bad
September 17th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Left hand…the replay shows how he got hammered..but they ruled it as a strike and he’s still AB
September 17th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
And now Vic just hustled his way to first! Good job Victorino!
September 17th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
LA always agrees with the umps when they call them our way.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Thanks everyone for the update. Gameday can stink sometimes.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
The good part though is that where it hit his hand, it was already off the bat. Unlike Utley’s where he was still gripping it. When your still gripping the bat your hand has no give to it.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Beth, how ugly is Vladamir Nunez’s picture on Gameday? He looks like a mutant.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Yea, and that ball was going right at him in the first place…
September 17th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
here’s hoping victorino is fine. nice hustle to beat that out.
beth, i use slingbox when i’m out of town, which is pretty often (although i’m home right now thankfully). it’s always worked well for me, not the greatest picture, but very watchable. their tech support is good too.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Hey guys….back from last night. Mets fan here. Again, love this site. Think you guys are going to lose another game this season? Sheesh…
September 17th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
NEPA, you definitely nailed it. Ugh, GIDP.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
I think Vlad Nunez looks hot.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
yeah ruiz really needs to figure out how to NOT into double plays
September 17th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Happ has been brilliant so far!
September 17th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Hey Joe, good to see you again. Your team’s winning today so don’t feel too bad.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
This goes from good start to great if he can get through this inning.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
vic’s hand looks good there
September 17th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
there ya go greg b … he got through it
September 17th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
JaHa! You’re my new favorite pitcher!
Thanks for the tip, Christopher.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
I would have kept him in for 7 based on results, due up, and pitch count, but im sure I don’t have all the facts
September 17th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Actress Anne Hathaway in the flicks “The Devil Wears Prado” and “Chaos” is a fox.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Not to mention the fact you are downgrading in offensive talent as well by subbing Jenkins in
September 17th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Just turned the game on. Damn is happ looking as good as the score indicates?
September 17th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
MikeB…have you seen Havoc?
September 17th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
confidence rebuilding for Durbin here?
September 17th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Nats tack on another
September 17th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Great job from Happ tonight! He definately showed up for work!
September 17th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
Think the Nationals can get 5 runs in 3 innings?
September 17th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Rob, just saw your post from way above, I thought you meant we are not used to being in 1st, I meant we don’t know how to act when we’re in 1st, I would never presume to tell you how to run your board.
Full moon effect?
September 17th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
great inning from durbin. he needed one like that, coming in for an entire inning from start to finish, in a game with a fairly comfortable lead. he’s still a hell of a pitcher and will be invaluable to them making the playoffs.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
Brian Michael; yes, I have seen “Havoc” but I have not seen “Chaos” which stars Wesley Snipes and Ryan Phillippe, among others. Whoops! My mistake. I meant preiviously to say “Havoc” instead of “Chaos”. Have you ever seen “Bully” with another actress beauty in it named Bijou Phillips?
September 17th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Against the Mets bullpen? I’m counting on 6 runs in 3 innings.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
well …they have 9 outs to work with
September 17th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Two run homer from Dukes. 8-5 Mutts. God, I love their bullpen.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Johnny Snowden, when a team “tacks on” a run, that means that their already winning and their adding to their lead.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
There are two more for the Nats
September 17th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Well, there’s 2 of them. 3 more now in 7 outs.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
What happened there with Kelly Johnson? Man, did he have a brain fart.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Btw, the Marlins have petrified me ever since they dominated for that stretch during Bowa’s tenure.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
hahaha wow, thanks kelly johnson.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
When you screw up in baseball it must be so embarrassing, there’s no way to pretend it was someone else like in other sports.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Apparently Heilmann is is warming up for the Mets.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
sorry NEPA
then I should say that the nats have added an additional two runs to their previous 3 runs giving them a total of five compaired to the mets 8
September 17th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
8-5 now heading into the 8th for the Mets/Nats.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
Manny,
We are winning right now, but it never ever comes easy….the bullpen always finds a way to make it interesting…
September 17th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
SJ Mike,
Whats going on man….didnt we go through this last night? You guys are gone….Mets are in the rearview mirror.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Haha, thank you Snowden. Didn’t mean to be an asshole.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Joe, I never believe in calling it until it is official. Nature of being a Philly fan.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
It is quite “amazin” how similar these 2 teams are really…both are often overshadowed by teams in their city (Yanks and Eagles), both have passionate fan bases who assume the worst and both have that certain way of ripping your guts out as a fan…haha
September 17th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
Ugh. Durbin fizzling lately
September 17th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
NEPA … its all about accuracy hah
September 17th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
And Durbin would be our closer….go figure.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
its all good bro
September 17th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
big out for JC there. nice game for the bullpen so far.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
Anything is just too close to call in my opinion. And with the impending series against Florida coming up, I’m not sold yet. Florida has a knack of being that pesky team that will dominate you with slop.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
George,
Don’t worry about it.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Homer STAIRS!!
September 17th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
SJ …totally …and with the brewers, cards and astros sorta falling down here in the stretch … the fish are only 5 games out and it would appear as though they have a chance and are playin for it
September 17th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Homerun Heilman is in for the Mets and gave up a deep double on his first batter.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
I’ll take the Stairs!
September 17th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
that matt stairs …hes allright
September 17th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
Stairs baby.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
I’m with you SJ Mike… Florida is one tough team, and they can take a few games from us if we don’t play our best
September 17th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
Stairs is such a better Jenkins than Jenkins ever was
September 17th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
To quote the Office:
I’m like a carpenter… who builds Stairs, I’m always thinking one step ahead.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Who are we throwing out there against Florida? Myers, Moyer, Blanton?
September 17th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
stairs was a good pickup, gives them a solid bat off the bench for situations like that. glad to see condrey up in the bullpen, lidge could use the night off tonight.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Yeah, Lidge had to fight last night for that save, so he definitely deserves a night off.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
1st and 3rd, no out for Nats.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
After putting runners at the corners with no outs, Heilman is out with Scott Schoeneweis coming in.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Matt Stairs is a rich man’s Geoff Jenkins.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
is anyone else hearing that one phillies fan right by the booth in atlanta?
September 17th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
I hear a guy keep asking for “Nicole” if that is what you mean Johnny.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Heilman has been pretty awful in big spots this year.
Schowenweis just got a strikeout for the first out.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
yeah i think its the same guy thats whistling whenever the phills get a hit
September 17th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
Evan, Heilman has been pretty awful in ALL spots this year.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Happ for the Ashburn? Or the team?
September 17th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Church just made a real nice play and held all runners at bay…2 outs with little Joe coming in…still not out of the woods by any stretch….can I ever get an easy night?
September 17th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Happ for the Ashburn DEFINITELY
September 17th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Happ sounds like a good choice for Ashburn. Kid pitched a hell of a game.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
well nats got one more chance
September 17th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Well, I guess the Nats decided to go out hacking in that situation.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Zimmerman hit one to the wall….wow. Beltran ran it down. Thankfully. He crushed it.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
and by that i mean inning
September 17th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
Side note, you guys see Zimmerman as much as we do. Thoughts? Think he is ever going to be a stud or is he just a complimentary guy? I thought he would be a stud at first, but not so sure now.
He sure can play D though.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
He’s a stud here in DC…but that’s about it. I think he can do better though.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Joe, you saw the play then I’m guessing. How close to the wall was that? Gameday shows the dot right at 409 and Chris Wheeler said it was really close.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Stairs way to heaven….*rimshot*
September 17th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
PHILLIES WIN!
September 17th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
It was not that close. Beltran caught it a step or two before the warning track. Zim hit it to the deepest part of the park and Beltran had to run back for it so it looked more dangerous than it was.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
Thank you, Brian. They made it seem like it so close to being 9-8 and such.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
big win tonight for the phils !!
September 17th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
GIANT start tonight from Happ. Exactly what we needed. Now its up to Cole to bring it tomorrow.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Happ was ace-like today.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Sweet.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Hamels vs. Jo Jo Reyes tomorrow I believe.
Just hope that Cy Young, erh, Tim Redding throws well against the Mets tomorrow with Santana on the mound.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
If the Phils make the playoffs is Happ the 4th starter?
September 17th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Things aren’t looking good for the Brewers. Yesterday Sabathia lost his first game, and today Sheets got injured.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
I’m assuming 4th starter wouldn’t be chosen until he gets one more start to see how he fairs.

Evan, I guess that will largely depend on his next start this season.
September 17th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
I’m available to be the game 4 starter if needed.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
I think if Zimmerman gets some surrounding cast to him, he would be great. Maybe some pennant race excitement would help, too. Zim is pretty clutch and he seems to CRUSH the ball to center, its like his power alley only its always at the deepest part of the park.

im happy till tommoirw
September 17th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
I’d say Blanton would be #4….he does have 1 game more playoff experience than Happ…
September 17th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
Is Happ even available to be on a playoff roster? I’m assuming spped guys like Golson wouldn’t be, though it seems like his chances to play are becoming more and more rare.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
heck of a win. at a time when they absolutely needed it too. not the prettiest inning from condrey but a nice job by the bullpen all around to give lidge the night off. what can you say about JA happ? the kid absolutely deserves another start and could very well be in the starting rotation next season. his post game interview was good, he really strikes me as having the right composure and mental makeup to be a successful big league starting pitcher.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Happ is on the 40 man roster I believe and was called up midseason initially, so I believe he is.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
Brewers tacked on one 4-1 now with runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
So, 3 teams….2 spots. Should be real interesting from here on out. Predictions?
September 17th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Nice win tonight,we needed a pitcher to step up tonight and give us a good game and Happ did just so,now we need Hamels to bring his A game and take the sweep.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Man the Marlins are on fire they’ve scored 14 runs tonight and are on their way to their 7th straight win and we gotta play em this weekend.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
wow, its like clockwork with this Mets bullpen.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Jesus! The Nats got 2 more runs…
September 17th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
What scares me about the Marlins is that by time we see them on Friday, our series is make or break whether they’re still in the race or not. Can’t give them that extra fire.
That or Houston’s layoff with the hurricane just killed all of their momentum.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
I think the Marlins have a decent shot at the Wild Card and they will play hard their next games. Sucks for us…but hey, we have a pretty good team that’s ALSO hot.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Take it from me….this bullpen could blow a 14 run lead…
And Mr Clutch, Wright, started this whole shit show off with a careless throw for an error.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Marlins are still in it. They’re not there to play spoilers. They’re still competing.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Wright whispers “sorry about that guys, there’s plenty of season left”.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Oh, that was close.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Brewers also all the sudden hitting again. They’re handing it to the Cubs pretty bad right now.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Mutts win.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Ayala gets the 27th out….woohoo! How does one feel so shitty after a win? Oh right, look at this team. Should be real interesting the rest of the way.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
man, the Mets look really happy, and relieved. I just hope they keep Ayala in that closer role.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Pitching matchups for us next couple days:
Cole Hamels (3.11) vs Jo-Jo Reyes (5.50)
Brett Myers (4.06) vs. Josh Johnson (5-1, 3.30)
Joe Blanton (4.82) vs. Anibal Sanchez (5.87)
Jamie Moyer (3.86) vs. Chris Volstad (3.07)
What do you all think?
September 17th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
I’ll take it.
Moyer’s pitched well against the Fish, right?
September 17th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Moyer I believe is unbeaten lifetime vs. Florida. Something like 11-0 or something.

So we miss Nolasco. That’s good news.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Josh Johnson has been on fire lately, that game will be a test.
Also, I was listening to the Braves broadcast and they said Mike Hampton is going tomorrow and Jo-Jo Reyes is going Friday against the Mets.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
so many great comments. then an idiot says marlins have decent shot . Why do some people think they know this game.
