Odds And Ends: Jenkins, Tracy, Myers, Q&A

Posted by Tim Malcolm, Fri, September 12, 2008 12:03 PM

More for your Friday …

  • Obviously Geoff Jenkins has returned to the Phillies from the DL.

Jenkins provides a late bat and some fielding, but not much more. Jayson Werth has usurped his place in the lineup, and Matt Stairs will get some of Jenkins’ at bats. Hopefully Geoff can make some contributions late.

  • Andy Tracy has broken the fifth metacarpal of his left hand. He’ll miss the rest of the season.

Not much of a loss here. But no roster move has been made; I’d think the Phils would want to 60-day DL Tracy so they can bring up another reinforcement. Brandon Watson, maybe?

  • It’s being reported Brett Myers may start Sunday on three-days rest.

I love this. I love that Myers is suddenly the spark this team has desperately needed. I’m cautious about his arm, as we all should be, but if anyone should be throwing more down the stretch, it’s Brett.

  • Our own Webmaster, Brian Michael, completed a Q&A with Right Field Bleachers, a Brewers fan blog, about the Phils in preparation for the four-game series.

Check it out. Brian has some great points, including talk about Chase Utley’s struggles, Carlos Carrasco and an interesting look-alike comparison of a Phillie and a jam-band star.

Myers starting on 3 days rest could actually be a good idea. I am a little concerned about his arm (since he pitched 115 pitches his last time out) but there is a an off-day monday and Happ could pitch Tuesday against a bad Braves team. The Brewers crush lefties so it would make more sense to pitch Myers against the Brewers than Happ and get Myers (and Moyer for that matter) their rest by pitching Happ against the Braves.

i love the fact that myers wants to be a bulldog and is willing to go out there on 3 days rest. he has always had the stuff, now it seems like he might be coming around mentally. I wish Hamels would have some of the guts that Moyer and Myers has showed recently.

i still think myers will eventually end up in a nut house.

durbinator, you are right, myers should go on short rest if he decides he can, because the brewers are hitting like .275 on the season against lefties. Moyer did a great job last night, but he is a master of location, Happ will probably not have the same luck.

Someone told me that the game was getting rescheduled until tomorrow night (double header) anyone know if this is true?

  7. Mike T. Says:

not sure chris, i’m wondering myself.
